We are going in July this year but normally travel October or Christmas.

It is also my first time using the new FP system.

Do you have any tips for the heat, is it better when it goes dark? Any advice welcome :goodvibes

It's hot! Arrive early and plan to make the most of the mornings and evenings. It will probably rain quite heavily in the afternoons so it's a good idea to carry a small waterproof and footwear that will hold up to the water (flip flops tend to be lethal!!). It's also busy, so make sure you arrive at the parks with a plan! Drink plenty, ice water is free! An insulated water bottle or koozie will help as drinks just don't stay cool in that heat.

(Sounds a bit naff but I loved going in July!)

Thanks Kath, I was thinking maybe Crocs? Not the classiest footwear but should be good in the rain. I think I would melt with a poncho on if it's that hot a humid :rotfl:

Due to be restricted to school holidays we usually get our longest holiday in July.

Yes it is busy, hot, humid, rainy but we love it :thumbsup2 (I love hot weather though)

I usually wear crocs to the park anyway as I have sandal type ones however if it's a really wet day so will DH otherwise whatever you are wearing on your feet will get soaked and trainers take days to dry :headache:

Thanks Elise, we cannot really take DD out of school as it is her last couple of years so we have bit the bullet and gone in July :) I am going to look round for some crocs then.

We have done July many times. We get out early in the mornings when it is still cool, leave for lunch, swim or chill in the afternoons , book and early dinner and go back after dinner. Usually it rains late afternoon so we try and go back after that and it is all a lot fresher.

It is hot and crowded but we have had some fab holidays then.

Oh and we always manage to have one day where we get caught out and absolutely soaked to the skin. But we have a laugh with it.

oh yes indeed it is HOT HOT HOT HOT HOT HOT HOT HOT HOT.
but the heat isn't the problem. No. It's the HUMIDITY!!!!!
i never knew you could have 100% humidity without rain, but somehow they manage that in orlando. It's 100% all day long when it isn't raining and also when it is raining.
And unlike normal places, where the rain breaks the heat. No. Not in Orlando. There it rains...well...a wall of water comes down on your head for about an hour. And then it's just as hot and humid afterwards. What's up with that????

so i'm joking. Not really. It really is hotter and more humid than you thought possible.

that being said, we used to only go in july. That was when we could go, so that was when we went. Despite the heat. Despite the humidity. Despite the torrential rain. Despite the lightening that's on another level of sound and light show than you've ever ever seen (more lightening in central florida than anywhere else in the world).

so...did i scare you?

really it's not so bad. You have to take a zen approach.
you have to become one with the heat and one with the humidity.
Just let it wash over you. You will be one wet hot person. But just go to that zen place and all will be well.

My one big tip - other than drink drink drink drink drink drink drink - is to take a long 2 hour air conditioned table service lunch. It will revive you.

And don't push yourself.

Really it will be fine. You'll be in the happiest place on earth.
Let the skies open. Let the heat try to fry you. You'll be with Mickey, so who cares.

.

So I'll either be hot and frizzy haired with the humidity or hot and wet to the skin :rotfl2: Now I know why I always took dd out of school!

Seriously, I am still so looking forward to it :goodvibes

for us, summer is the only time we can swim in orlando. The rest of the year, it's not hot enough for us. (i know, you brits can swim in the dead of winter, but we can't).
so we love it there in the summer. Great swimming weather.

did you say frizzy? my hair's frizzy in sub-zero temps, so you can imagine what it's like in orlando!!!

.

Yes I know what you mean about swimming, as we walk into Blizzard Beach in December we have been met with good natured calls of "only the Brits" as the CMs have their jackets and gloves on still!

and i would have on a snowsuit!! :)
DD and i went a few years back in november and the only brave souls in the resort pool were brits!!!!

Meant to ask, what are the mosquitoes like? Never been troubled before :)

Never really been bitten too much. The occasional bite (insects love me...) but nothing of any significance. Perfume attracts them so I avoid wearing perfume in the evenings.

I'm with you Beth - not going in the pool unless the outside temp is over 85! I don't even plan to swim in Orlando in December as I know even on the hottest December day it will still be too cold for us :lmao:

I get bitten unless I have insect repellant on but they love me  I have even been bitten in December when no one else does :headache:

Thanks again for the replies, will get some repellent or cortizone cream from Target to cool any bites :)

disney sprays the hell out of their parks. Really sprays and sprays and sprays.
Everywhere.
so most people aren't too bothered by mosquitos.
However, insect repellent is a very good idea, just in case - especially at night!!

So on your shopping list is:
--industrial size sun screen
--insect repellent
--something to put on in the event of a sunburn (which sometimes happens despite the sun screen). My choice is biafine. Quite magical stuff. I don't know if they sell it in the UK though (i think it's either swiss or french).

speaking of sun screen - put it on in the morning, before you leave your room. Put on lots and lots of it.
And carry some with you in case it gets washed off in a downpour or on a water ride.

my favorite sun screen is the spray on, sheer, non-greasy type.

coming back in to edit this:
i just looked it up and they do sell biafine in the UK. Good stuff. Good to have in the event of a sunburn.
Actually, good to have in the house for when you burn yourself cooking (which i do so often, it's crazy)

Apparently Avon Skin So Sift dry oil spray is great for bug avoidance. I'm trying it this year. For some reason the little midges have decided they like to nibble me now, not sure why they never used to!

Thanks Beth and Button. never heard of biafine - will have to look it up. BUT Funnily enough had an Avon book through the letter box so might take a look.

I too like the non greasy sprays. GOT a good one from Target, it was Hawain Tropic. :)

Biafine is French, it's used for sun burn and 1st and 2nd degree burns.

I always used to use it until I was given some pure aloe vera gel which works even better.
