Groupon is coming to my area and it sounds very interesting...right up my alley!:thumbsup2 Tell me a little about it--have you used it? What types of deals have you found? How do you like it?

I got a $50 certificate for the gap for $25 a few weeks ago.

They have other great local deals too. They do have a referral system too - so I have $20 free credit to spend there as I see other good deals.

I have only bought one deal, but have seen several others that I would have purchased if I had had the money. I got 52 weeks of the Sunday Chicago Tribune, $2.00 a paper, I think, for $13 for the whole year -- 25 cents an issue. We had stopped getting the paper to save money, but I really missed by Trib.

Earlier this summer, they had some White Sox ticket/BBQ party deals for a really good price, and tickets to the Jazz at the Shedd Aquarium events -- most of the stuff I see are things I would never use, but that's the beauty -- you can do one thing a year and make it worth getting the emails! I know for a fact that I got one heck of a bargain with the paper.

I purchased tickets to a local kids jump house place for $10 for 3 visits (usually $10 a piece). I loaded up!!

I also bought a hair cut at a salon.

They have had some other very compelling offers too!

Groupon is awesome!! I got the Gap one as well. The deals are different everyday, just sign up for the e-mail and it will be waiting for you in your in box. The deals are for anything and everything. Museums, tours, salons, retail, food etc. There is always a some minor "rules" but they have never been a big deal on the ones I have purchased. More like expiration dates, how many you can purchase, etc. I give it a big thumbs up :thumbsup2

We don't have Groupon in our area yet, but I eye ball the Baltimore, Philly and Orlando offers regularly. Some are Regional, some are National. Today they have a Shutterfly Photo Book for $10 - $29.99 was the retail I think. (Great Holiday gift for Grandparents!)

As an FYI - Sunshine Rewards gives cash back on Groupon. I wish we had them!!!!

Thanks for the info! I'm getting excited about having it in our area. I'll have to check out some of the neighboring cities that are already on it. I see you have to put your e-mail address in to see the deals. Did you start getting junk e-mail after registering? And can you switch cities after you register for one?

I've only been a member a couple of weeks - there hasn't been a single thing yet that I was interested in buying but that's mostly due to location. My Groupon covers a huge area and I am not real willing to drive a long way for something usually. The ones they have offered have been decent discounts, if they were of interest to you.

I haven't gotten anymore spam than usual, that I've noticed. I just get a daily email from Groupon - I usually scan it and delete it (or click through if I want to read more about it). You can click and look at any city you want to. Doesn't have to be just your area.

I used groupon in our area for Jazzercise. It was a great deal 65% off plus no joining fee. I may take a few day to weeks to find something you really want , but you will love it. :thumbsup2Good luck.

Okay...last summer I bought a groupon coupon for House of Blues at Downtown Disney. I paid $3 for it but you had to spend $30 to get $25 off. Well that was easy there. Great deal. Now I am looking again. I know that I was able to look at all different kinds of resturants in the area. Now, can you only purchase the deal of the day? If anyone can help me how to search for all of the resturants in the area that would be great. Maybe now you can only purchase the deal of the day, but I thought I would ask.

Nevermind...I am mistaken. It was on resturant.com
I am finding what I needed!

I just bought a one hour session with a local professional photographer for $75, which includes one 8x10 and 12 high res. images on a CD for my use. The regular price was around $400. I am going to use it for my son's senior photos.

I also bought a $25 gc to nuttyguys.com for $10. Got some yummy nuts and dried fruit.

It is legit. During Christmas, I bought a $50 TGIF gift certificate for $25. Received it via email and used it the next night. :) It was nice. The company had no issues at all.

Definitely legit...great deals and easy to redeem. I've bought/used groupon deals for restaurants, a cornmaze/pumpkin patch, and ziplining place for kids. You just print up your groupon and present it to the place. They also have an app that allows you to pull up your groupon to use, too. :thumbsup2

Use them all the time. I am signed up for about 25 cities (my immediate area and places I either travel to or have someone that lives there) You will get an email a day for each city you sign up for. Some of the deals are only offered to certain cities but can be used nationally. Make sure you read the fine print on all the offers and check expiration dates. I've had to return a deal before and groupon was great had my money back in less than a week.

Love Groupon! I usually only buy the coupons for places that we visit anyway...but I love to buy them and then have an excuse to go and save money at the same time! We've bought groupons for portraits, restaurants, ice cream and plants and have had nothing but good experiences. Now I'm starting to look at Orlando to see if anything comes up for our upcoming trip!

Good part: discounts are usually very good, at least 50% off. There's a new deal every day, but they don't always expire in 24 hours, so you can come back to it if you need to think about it first.
Bad part: if you live in a large metro area, the discounts offered can sometimes be for areas farther than you're willing to drive or in places you're unlikely to frequent. (I get weird offers all the time for belly dancing classes or tanning salons, which are just not something I'd do, and half the time the restaurant deals are either small, locally owned independent places that I've never heard of, or are too far away for me to drive to if I'm not 100% sure I'd love it. And they're usually non-traditional too, like international cuisine or sushi restaurants - I hate fish!) Also, it's not as easy as just printing off a coupon. You have to BUY the coupon, on the spot. So, if I get a deal for 75% off a haircut at my local salon, but won't need to get my haircut for another two months, I still have to purchase the deal upfront. And, if you get annoyed by SPAM, then getting the daily deal can sometimes be annoying, since they do send you an email every day.

Just and FYI - recently, a local vinyard offered a 50% off deal, but it was for only one day and I missed it. I called the vinyard and they said they would honor the deal! When I was there, I found out that they did not limit the number you can buy for the 50% off price....so I bought 4 and used them for Christmas presents!
If you miss out, call the place of business and see if they will honor the deal anyway!

They post deals and if enough people sign up and pay you get the deal. Its like a group discount.

I've used it as an excuse to try out different restaurants and found some real winners!
