Tell me about e-Cigs

DH has asked me to do a little research into e-cigs and I have no idea where to start! I need to know everything - brands, costs (both up-front and on-going), and whatever else there is to them... :confused3 I'm especially interested in smokers' opinions of the e-cig and how effectively it mimics the real thing.

DH has no interest in quitting at this point (zipping up my flame-proof suit) but is looking at the e-cig as a way to avoid our annual winter "discussion" about smoking in the house. So what I'm wondering about specifically is the practicality of using an e-cig rather than actually lighting up when he's at home, even if he continues to smoke at work and on the road.

My mom just came back from Las Vegas and bought something like that. I don't know if all of them are called e-cigs and then they have brands. It's Trio 51 that my mom bought my sister.

My sister loves it, she's been using it for about a week now. She can smoke in my house and it won't bother me. I have really bad asthma and I can be outside 20 or more feet away from a smoker- if the wind is blowing the smoke in my direction I will have an asthma attack.

I would love it if everyone that smokes cigarettes gave them a try. Wish the government would give a great rebate for anyone that wants to try them out.

My best friend tried one of these on the suggestion of a fellow smoker. He absolutely loves the thing! We went on a trip to Vegas recently and he was able to smoke in the car and the room without bothering me at all. It still looks like he's smoking, because there's a water vapor that's released. I kept starting to move away when the water vapor would come out, but then I'd realize it wasn't smoke and I could just stand there and not be bothered. The one he has uses liquid drops that you can get in a variety of flavors, so he enjoys trying them all out (I believe berry is his favorite so far).

It's really a great product. The drops he's using in it now include nicotine, but he can get other drops that have less or no nicotine, so he can eventually wean himself from smoking altogether. Only problem is that it's such a nifty little toy, he's sucking on it constantly. But, it's got far less nicotine than a cigarette, so he's okay to enjoy it all day long. I'm sure the novelty will wear off soon, too, and he'll use it less often.

So great to be able to be around my friend without the smell of cigarettes!

My dh bought a starter kit and it was around $75 when all was said and done. He used it for about a month or so. The novelty wore off...

I actually tried it (I'm a former smoker) and thought it tasted like chemicals...no nicotine rush.

I bought a kit (at 7-11) about 2 weeks ago. All total it was about $60, kit, refills and car charger. The brand is XHale.

Honestly, it's just ok. I miss the real thing. . .and am still smoking them. But it is nice for in the car. I never smoked in the house before, but I can with these now. They do help with nicotine cravings, but it lacks the strength of the real thing (and I normally smoke light 100's). It might just be this brand, but right now, I don't feel like laying out more $$ to try a different one. I think I might try some flavored cartridges next. What I miss is that hit on your lungs when you take a drag. . .maybe the flavors will offer more of that. :confused3
