Tell me about dues....

So I have a better understanding, please let me know the options for paying annual dues. Are you able to pay for them on a monthly basis? Is it an auto withdrawel? Do they even have this option or is it all due in Jan.? Thanks soo much in advance.

Dues can be paid in either a single payment due on January 15th or by monthly debit from a US financial institution. If you select monthly you will have the option of either the 1st or 15th of the month. The first monthly payment will always be Jan 15 even if you select the 1st as a payment date. They do not charge a fee or interest if you choose to pay monthly.

You can pay them monthly, but I believe you are required to have them automatically take out of your checking account. There are no interest and no installment charges, so I choose to pay this way, rather than one lump sum.

If you want to take advantage of the monthly payment option, contact Member Accounting. They can be reached at the same number as MS but different option at the first menu prompt. The 2011 dues statements will be out around mid December so the sooner you call, the sooner they can get it setup for you.

If you do nothing you are presumed to be one of those who will pay the entire sum of annual dues in Jan. To set up monthly withdrawal after a resale, you need to contact member accounting to do it and fill out a form and provide an account number for automatic withdrawal. You must have a US bank account because they won't do it for accounts in other countries. If you closed on resale in August, you cannnot start automatic monthly withdrawal until the 2011 calendar year as all dues for 2010 would have been accounted for as part of the resale closing, but should contact member accounting now to get the form done and set you up for next year.

Many prefer just paying annually. I like the monthly withdrawal from my account including because they aren't charging any interest or fees to do it, i.e., I pay the same in installments over 12 months as someone who pays the entire year of dues in Jan.

not so. (unless it has changed.)

you can either

1) pay your total annual dues with the disney visa (or disney reward dollars from the disney visa, IIRC)

OR

2) pay monthly by automatic draft of your checking account.

but not both...

No, those paying by credit card would need to pay the entire fee by February 15 each year. DVC has not offered an auto-debit program even for the Disney VISA. Currently, the only monthly program is the auto-debit described above from a US bank account.

In a way you can pay using the VISA card. You can set up monthly withdrawal from your bank account. As the year progresses you can at any time go into your account on-line and pay off your remaining dues for the year via a credit card.

Of course you understand putting the dues on the Disney Chase card gives you the 1% in Disney Dollars. What we do is set aside into a savings account the monthly amount necessary, then repay the charge card at once. Makes another percent and a half. Not much, but better than a sharp stick in the eye.
