Tell me about DL in the rain :(

I am trying to convince myself that rain will be okay- but having a hard time doing that! As of today, the weather forecast shows rain EVERY day I will be there - Wednesday the 9th thru Saturday the 12th. With Wed, Fri, and Sat showing 100% chance. Light rain wouldn't be so bad- but it calls for 25 mile per hour winds, also. Will be kind of bummed if we can't see a parade or fireworks or Fantasmic! Am also worried about travel over the Grapevine. Guess, I wil just keep my fingers crossed!

I am there the exact same days and I am also concerned about the grapevine. If it REALLY looks like it's going to become a snow storm over the grapevine, I'll go 101. I really don't want to do that but it's better than sleeping in my van at the reststop.

The forcast I'm seeing shows 60% and as low as 30% so not sure what you are seeing that says 100 %

I was looking at a site called myforecast.com. Who knows which one is the most accurate. Guess will just have to wait and see as it gets closer. The local news here in Northern Cal was saying they expect the whole state to get a soaking next week. Maybe it will just decide to stay North... But will make sure I start prepping my rain gear.

I'm in Santa Clara and ch 7 says the 2 computer programs are not agreeing on the amount of rain. I went to Walmart today and got ponchos in the camping section for $3. They had kid ponchos in the purse/umbrella section for $4. I'm going to just take them along and if it rains I won't have to buy overpriced Disney ones. If it really looks like the grapevine could get socked with heavy rain/snow just drive up 101

CNN's mobile site only goes out for 10 days, but it said cloudy but no rain on Wednesday and Thursday, and then rain on Friday. That would be just about perfect for me, as I'd personally like for rain to come keep crowds down on weekend days. :) Accuweather's forecast is making me happy too.

I'm going to have a great time no matter what happens, as it's Disneyland! I'm mostly concerned about seeing Tiana's Showboat and Fantasmic, and my friend hasn't seen the Christmas parade at all so she will want to see that. Really, if I can get all of those in once (preferably with a good Fantasmic view...I'm so picky! :rolleyes1 ) I'll be very happy.

I'm even undecided as to if we should try to see fireworks from the castle at the earliest opportunity or not, since Fantasmic is a much higher priority for me and from what I've read, it doesn't sound like the Christmas fireworks are the most impressive show.

(Though, does anyone know if Tiana still does her meet and greets in the rain? I'm not really one for meeting the characters but I'm already pretty much in love with the movie and I may want to see her and Prince Naveen. :) )

YIKES:eek:.... I was not even thinking rain. Weather has been nice in the past. I am not used to how it rains in California. Is it usually a brief light rain, or is it like florida, and such downpours. I am praying the weather while might be cloudy will stay rain free. I have never seen the Christmas stuff at Disney, and want to see the lighting, fireworks, snow, and parade. I also was going to call tomorrow to see about getting Fantasmic seating, but now not sure if it would be risky. I really would like to get the seats, but hate for it to get rained out. I looked at some of the local Los Angeles TV Stations, and they call for MAYBE rain, but it's not for sure, so far they are just saying will be cloudy, and may only rain on Sunday. Who knows......

Honestly not sure on TTMM. I know they shut down Casey Jr, Alice in Wonderland, I believe Matterhorn, basically anything where they need to worry about the tracks being wet. I have heard it sometimes can cancel the christmas parade, fireworks, and fantasmic. I am praying for no rain, and if it does it's wayyyy before the park opens, and after it closes lol.:worship::wizard:

Does anybody have any idea if there is a number to call the morning of & find out if TTMM is running should there be any rain?

Rain in CA is all a free for all. I was there in Sept one year and it was drenching rain, other times it's misty. Honestly I doubt there will be much rain next week but what do I know :wizard:

Lived in LA for 6 years, and honestly say, most rains don't last the whole day. The tricky part is this is the "winter months" so chances may be higher. but in all the times we did Disney while we were there I can't remember any show being rained out. Not saying it's not possible, just saying we never saw it.
Hope you have a Magical Trip!

It looks like some of this information might be useful for the rest of this week? (and also may have been useful on Monday... :flower3: )

So I read that they try to run parades even if it is raining. What about Fantasmic and fireworks? Does anyone know about Tiana's Showboat Jubilee?

One site linked to, http://myforecast.com/bin/expanded_forecast.m?city=11485&metric=false , predicts "sprinkles" for Anaheim on Thursday and Friday. Do you know what would close for "sprinkles"?

OK -- so we love the rainy days. Because we know that it will keep a bunch of the locals at home! They can't drive in the rain & they certainly don't want to walk arouund in the rain. So, buy a few $12 umbrellas or some $8 ponchos and enjoy a low crowd day! You won't melt! Of course, my hair is flat and straight on a dry day --- that's the big joke...what's it going to do, make my hair go flat? DH just shakes his head and drags out the ponchos and the umbrellas for the kids and wonders why he didn't marry someone normal...might want to put a dry pair of socks in a ziplock bag to put on mid-day if you aren't going to go back to the hotel if it's really pouring. Other than that, have a good time.

CA weather in general is retarded...you can NEVER measure it from year to year...and yesterday it rained in anaheim the entire day...not just drizzle or mist..POURED:headache:

As for ponchos, I have heard some people singing the praises of the Disney ponchos, actually, as they are higher quality than the dollar ponchos you can buy elsewhere, and I have heard that if one breaks (even from a previous trip?) they will give you a new one for free? I haven't confirmed the latter myself. :flower3: Anyway, I'm saying that if you can't buy ponchos beforehand, just tell yourself that the Disney ones are actually higher quality so you're definitely not getting gouged. :rolleyes1

Yep, we saw a lot of these on Splash Mountain when we went last week. We had the cheapie dollar-store ones, and while they worked fine, and were easy to carry around, they were thinner than paper. Those Disney ones sure looked like high quality. And folks told me they were only $6 or $7 or something like that.

We've now thrown away the dollar ones (they lasted 5 days, which is better than I expected). Next time we may just buy the Disney ones in the park.

But if you want the dollar ones, there's a dollar store just south of Target, on Harbor south of Chapman. If you have a car, that is.

yep I have one of the disney ones and I ♥♥ it...very thick and although bulky when wet, once it dries it folds up very nicely in my suitcase:goodvibes

We take umbrellas, I have a poncho, we also take a shammy, like a Sham Wow to wipe seats that might be wet as we are boarding. It really helps, especially on rides like IASW where the boats collect water. We have all this ready to go next week!! :)

We arrive on Thursday and ready for wet (and cold) weather! Here are some of the extras that we're bringing:

Our Disney ponchos (big yellow ponchos with Mickey!)
An extra poncho in case of rips

Jackets and coats that are water-repellent.

Rainpants! These go over jeans and are water-repellent.

Water-repellent shoes.

Ballcaps for misty weather and rainhats for heavier rain.

Sponge towel (super absorbent)

We are going Thur. & Fri.... I have been watching the weather reports and I really don't think it is going to be a big deal of a storm. At least I am crossing my fingers and toes!! Changed my lunch reservations to Blue Bayou instead of the BBQ so we would be inside just in case!
