Tell me about dinner at Boma

Have to do the tiny voice of dissent here. We really, really did NOT like Boma. We are adventurous eaters as a rule and have enjoyed every other restaurant at WDW we have tried. Not Boma. We found the food either extremely over-spiced with odd combinations (red hot cinnamon ribs, for example) or totally bland-blah-tasteless.

The place was so noisy we could not hear our waiter or each other. The lines were incredibly long -- like 10 minutes per area. We couldn't even get close to the area that had "regular" buffet foods.

Desserts were just so-so to us (we were not impressed with the famed Zebra dome. Actually liked the humble bread pudding much more.)

Let me tell you about the group of us that went to dinner at Boma. Me (32) could eat pretty much anything and am an adventurous eater, DH (32) will try things but has a good amount of things he WON'T touch, Two other adults one in their 40's and one in their 50's who are pretty picky eaters, three kids 5,4,2 who are typical kids, picky.

Everyone thought that Boma was the BEST meal we had. There was so much of a selection and it was so yummy that it will be a staple for us on our future trips. We also stayed at animal kingdom lodge and it's great. You can see the animals and you can get night vision goggles for free.

on allears (I think) it says Mon-Thu they open @ 5:00 and on weekends they open @ 4:30 They could open earlier during peak times as well.

I have been checking this place out pretty heavy for a couple of reasons...1. I really want to check out Animal Kingdom Resort and 2. Almost everyone says how wonderful the food is. I am a very timid eater tho, so I am afraid I won't like it at all. :confused3 I do think we are just going to go for it and try it though!!

is breakfast a little 'milder' in terms of different flavors, spices, etc?

I am going to try to get and ADR for Boma, but we aren't planning on Park Hoppers, so I'm wondering what time Animal Kingdom will close? Our dates are 8/8- 8/15... Is it best to go in the morning, back to hotel to nap and rest, then back to AK early evening for dinner????

Please help--- It's our first vacation there! Thanks for all your help!!!

You don't have to eat at Boma on the day you visit Animal Kingdom as it's not in the park, it's at the Animal Kingdom Lodge. You can take a bus from anywhere that has resort buses to the Animal Kingdom Lodge resort. Then you can go back to whatever park you were at before, or back to your hotel (although you will need to take a bus somewhere else first, like a park or downtown disney, then on to your hotel...no direct hotel-hotel buses unless the resorts are sharing a bus).

Had dinner at Boma a few nights ago. It was by far the worst meal of our trip! The food was sloppy; the selection was poor and just tasted awful. The soups were very good. But everything else was bad, including the deserts. There are SO many better restaurants in WDW, and IMHO this ranks in the bottom 10%

Another family who loves Boma. First time there my children were 5 and 9 and voted it their favourite non-character restaurant.

We all like different things. DH loves fruit, salad and fish but does not do high fat foods or spicy foods. Loves Boma, has stacks of fruit and salad, this time around it was salmon as the fish and a fish stew. He was very happy.

DS likes a little spicy food. Is game to try most things and loves creamy puddings. He likes the fries and chicken for kids plus the meat (likes his prime rib well done and gets a good choice here) Loves all the desserts but especially the zebra domes.

DD Very picky eater. Eats meat, no spices, fruit and plain veg. She loves their meat (likes it rare from about the age of 5 if it got up and walked off the plate she'd be happy) loves the strawberies, melon etc. Can get plain choc chip cookies 'without stuff' for dessert and fries. One very happy child.

Me love fancy/foreign food. Love the hummus all flavours and the breads Could just manage with these, always have two plates of salad and a little meat but boy those desserts. Love cocomisu(sp?) the milk tart, zebra domes, the boozy chocolate mousse................................ need at list three plates of desserts

Plus Boma do my favourite cocktail the strawberry basil lemonade. I can taste it now.

Me and my DF just ate there on saturday for dinner and it was great! I really liked it, it was different I've never had african food before it's a little spicy though I have some pictures I'll post if you you'll have to get the sour apple freeze its soooo good!

You have to try the zebra domes!!! They are sooo good too :lmao: Hope you enjoy your dinner!!:flower3:

If we decide to book the free dining special for a fall trip I think this would be fun to do on our arrival day for an early dinner. Then let the kids walk around for a bit and look at the animals/resort. Please tell me all about it.

Thanks,
Cristy

Perfect time to do Boma. Because it's at Animal Kingdom Lodge it's kind of out of the way. So arrive day is a great time since your probably not going to go to a park that day anyhow.
Enjoy.

We will be going for the 3rd time on our 3rd trip in Nov. Every other restaurant we have tried has been a different one, but so far we always feel the need to repeat just this one. It really is like a tasting adventure for us, we literally tried everything they had, and while not all of it was to our taste, we sure had fun with it. LOVE IT!

PPs pics were great, so I'll try not to duplicate too much, but here are the 3 different kinds of hummus...

Many of the side dishes...

I tried DD's chicken nuggets and they were REALLY extraordinary for nuggets! hehe

Lots of the desserts...

I do LOVE the zebra domes, but I have to say I agree with a PP who said they preferred the "humble" bread pudding. That was my FAVE!

Wow, thanks for the photos! Can't wait to eat here in June! Already made our ADR's!

This is one of the best meals we've ever had. Breakfast AND Dinner. :thumbsup2
