I keep reading vague references to this . . . . what makes this so unique as a counter-service restaurant??

I have the impression that it has audio-animatronics or something??

I would'nt stay there is somthing "special" at Cosmic Ray's. It's your basic but big counter-service restaurant.

I have gotten a few quick bites to eat there but I would can't remaber there being anything awful or fantastic. Just good.

I would say the Culumbia Harbour House is alittle better. There's somthing about getting a order of Chicken Tender's and going up to the second floor that we can't miss a trip.

Cosmic Ray's has an audio animatronic alien who performs a lounge-type act (rated G, of course). It's pretty cute. They also have a pretty good selection on the menu. In addition to the usual burgers and chicken strips, they offer rotisserie chicken, soup, salad, and sub sandwiches. Hope this helps.:)

There is an audiotronic "band" that plays periodically. The best thing about Cosmic Rays is that there is a lot of indoor seating, and there are lots of different selections offered. The outside steps facing the castle are also a great viewing spot for the fireworks:D

Had a burger there last summer and IMHO Beaches 'n' Cream's burgers are sooooooooo much better.

The Chuck-E-Cheese type band in the restaurant is okay, but really it is the free cheese in the condiment bar that draws my group in.....

I agree about the fixin's bar - best at WDW, or at least tied with Pecos Bills. All the cheese you want for your fries, mushrooms, grilled onions, etc. Plus you get a wider selections with 3 different sides , each with different offerings. Also nice, big bathrooms. The only drawback we find is that we usually have to split up to wait in different lines. Can be a problem if you have small children.

Its huge.

Its got Sonny Eclipse, the audio animatronic lounge singer (who sings constantly - it isn't like Chuck E Cheese where there are only occational shows). I'm not a huge Sonny fan, but my kids (2 and 3 when we went) were. We'd eat, they'd dance. The restaurant isn't as heavily themed as a Rainforest Cafe - its a Tomorrowland restaurant, so think "sleak modern".

It ridiculously close to Fantasyland, tucked between FL and Tomorrowland. Which means that if you have small kids you are likely very close. (Beaches and Cream may be a lot better, but if you'd have to leave the MK and head way over to the Epcot resort area to get that burger. Probably not worth the time for most people.) Its also hard to miss.

They have huge sandwiches and salads. Plus the chicken deal. Making them not a bad bargain as far as MK restaurants go.

I don't think its worth going out of your way for. You can check out Sonny as you are walking by. But if you are next to it at lunch or dinner time, its worth it. And I agree the multi-line thing (which speeds up service a lot) makes going there with small kids, two adults, and a party that wants different things a difficult proposition. (If everyone wants burgers, its easy).

This is one of the very few (count 'em on one hand) counter service restaurants we'll eat at in all of WDW!

They have a decent variety and the quality isn't bad for fast food. (Think Wendy's as opposed to White Castle)

I like the chicken Caesar salad.

Well the older generation can get to like him also. I enjoy sonny eclipse and get to see him most every trip (I'm 50). I can't put a finger on why I do. Probably the same reason I like COP.

I think it is the same ~20 minute show since I first went in 1989. So the reson probably is nostalgia.

Cosmic Rays used to have the BEST barbecue sandwich around - I was so upset when this was taken off of their menu.

The fixin's bar is really great, and the cheese makes it worth the stop!

The food isn't bad at all, but it's not the best. Nice, relaxing place to catch some air conditioning and a good show :-)

We almost always go to Cosmic Ray's because they serve veggie burgers and because of the fantastic 'fixin' bar. BUT, we are just back today and went there a few days ago...brace yourselves...NO MORE CHEESE AT THE FIXIN' BAR....

I was bummed, but will still continue to go there.

The soups and deli sandwiches are fresh and a great change from the usual counter service stuff. DH loves to stop there at least once a trip.

I go back all the time...they have barbecue sauce for my cheeseburger.

What free cheese? I didn't see any last month...

Awwww, no more cheese. :( I hope that it is still at the bar in Pecos Bill's.

TDS Nala - there was a warm cheese sauce (think nachos without the jalapenpo's in it) that you could use to top your burger or fries. Sounds like it is gone now?

It was just there 2 weeks ago! Although it was only on one side of the big toppings bar. I don't know what I would do if they got rid of that....

We were there I want to say maybe this past Tuesday. The cheese always draws me back, so I searched high and low for it and it was definitely gone. I didn't see any empty containers or anything....just gone.

Looks like I will have to try Pecos Bill's next time (unless they took the cheese away from there)!

I don't think Pecos Bill ever had cheese. They don't have barbecue sauce, either.

I should know from experience about the cheese sauce. Had to bag it every night if there was enough left and it went into hold to give to food bank. I hate to see that it is gone because people LOVED it. We had to refill that container at least every couple of hours during slow and more during rush. I hope they still have the grilled onions and mushrooms because they were good.

As to Sonny our wonderful lounge singer. He was a blast because he kept the kids from getting to bored at times. It was a sad day when a kid would walk up on stage and shut him off. He is very motion sensitive and when a child/adult steps onto a certain part of his area he is shut off so keep a watch on your kids. Of course if your tired of him by all means shut him off LOL

The food is really good. I always loved getting the chicken tenders, corn dog nuggets, and/or the stack sandwhiches. I know three different lines are a pain but the food is usually good enough for people to come back again and again.

A word of advice for those who want a unique spot to watch tinkerbell fly. If you are sitting on one of Cosmic's Patios you will have a great view of her flight. Mind you that you will miss the fireworks unless you step outside the resturant as soon as she flies. I hope I have given someone some great info. If anyone has any questions feel free to PM/Email me because I could tell you some wonderful stories of life at Cosmic's.

Pecos Bills does have cheese as we always get it on our fires.
