I tried to search but it is not working. Is this place worth checking out? What's to see? Thanks

It is a nice little town, not much of a tourist attraction. There is a cute little downtown area and some good restaurants, but not much to do.

Haven't been to it yet, but on Sunday I hear there is a farmers market with nice produce. Town tavern has delicious New England Clam chowder. Grammy

Celebration is a town that was built by Disney in 1994. We have a beautiful downtown area. All the talk seems to be how pretty the town is and how happy the residents seem to be. The town is very neat and the HOA is VERY strict. We have some very good restaurants, but other than a few shops, not much for a tourist to do.
Two times a year Disney has a liquidation sale the brings people from hundreds of miles away looking for bargins. Last year they lined up in the rain to get into the school gym, where the sale is held. This pic was taken an hour after the doors opened, and people were still waiting to get in.

If you have a specific question just let me know, I'll answer as best I can.

Hi Do you know at what time of the year or month Disney holds there sale.

Thanks

I have two questions..

What do they sell at the liquidation sale?

How much, if any involvement does Disney still have in the town? I thought they got completely out, but I may be mistaken.

Thanx... :smokin:

The liquidation sale is mostly discontinued items and clothing. I wasn't impressed with the sale this past fall since it seemed to be mostly ROXY clothes. I've done pretty good the other times I've gone. Items are up to 70% off. Check http://www.celebration.fl.us/ for upcoming sales

You are correct that Disney doesn't have involvement anymore

We stayed in Celebration after our cruise in Sept. We stayed at the Celebration Hotel. Neat little town with good restaurants and a nostalgic feel. We really enjoyed our couple of days there. Not a hopping place but nice and relaxing.

One year when we went to the liquidation sale we read about here, they were also having a community yard sale day. Many of the sellers were closing down by the time we finished our shopping at the Disney sale, but we still got a few good deals. Wish we had gone earlier.

At one point my family was planning a move to Celebration, but we decided to take a position where we still live.

There are a few people on the boards that can tell you a host of wonderful info about the town. I fell in LOVE with it though.

Yes, the porch and yard sale is always HUGE!! The traffic is crazy, but you can find some incredible bargins. And as for the Disney sale, we always go, you see people buying thousands of dollars worth of stuff, even after the 70% discount. I think a lot of people then turn around and sell it in e-bay.

I love Celebration, my dd 13 has never been so active in her life as she has been since we moved here two years ago.

Actually, Disney via The Celebration Company still has a lot of involvement with the town. They sold the downtown Market Street area and the golf course, but they still own a lot of land and are working to sell it/build on it.

It'll be many more years before Disney/TCC is out completely.

It's a cute little town with a lot for the residents to get involved in. We love living here.

Thank you very much, I enjoy writing but never seem to take time to do a regular update.

I LOVE being able to go to the parks for an hour or two. I also love being in Celebration for other reasons. We had dinner on the patio (or as my wife says "it's february and we're outside, eating, without mukluks and mittens!!)of one of the local restaurants last night. While we were there so many people that we know passed by anbd said hello. A couple of my daughters friends stopped by and so our kid ditched us old folks, but they just went over to Starbucks and had some frothy whippy thingy, and then just hung out on the docks in the rocking chairs, just chatting and being kids for a couple of hours. Which is not something we would have been comfortable with anywhere else.

Celebration actually has some touristy things to do. We recently got paddle boats that can be rented on the downtown lake, there are segway rentals at the Family Fun Station near the movie theater, and you can do a horse and carriage ride on the weekends.

It's an awesome place...a nice change of pace from the crowdedness of the theme parks. I have a blog about life here and my journey from Celebration to Chicago: http://celebrationfl.blogspot.com

We often nip to Celebration from the home we rent for lunch and then a stroll around. Always relaxing and enjoyable. At Christmas they have snow.... don't miss that if you are there.
