It looks like we won't get to eat at The Garden Grill this summer. Now I am trying to find a new restaurant at Epcot. I have looked at some of the menus on allearsnet and I am wondering what people think of Akershus. I read that there is a character lunch, but it did not have the menu or characters. Does anyone have any further information about this?

Thanks,
Nicki

I ate there everytime I was there. I must say it's authentic, which means, not for everyone. They have some pickled fish for lunch buffet. It's not your usual hotdog, waffle kinda of buffet. I had a great time. Services were great, and it's not everyday you can have authentic Norwegian food. So try it.

I can't speak for character breakfast. But I surely hope WDW will keep up this restaurant, and not 'Americanize it'. The food select & services were very sincere, and I wish everyone will try it at least once.

The dining section of this site (main site, not boards) now says that the food will remain Norwegian for adults, though the kids menu will go to a more typical WDW kids menu with the new Princess meals. I guess there are a lot of kids who wouldn't go for the more authentic food (mine will probably be sneaking food off of my plate, but there you go), but at least all of those people worried about a total menu change may not need to fret any more.

Now, if they can just get all of the EPCOT restaurants participating in the Dining Plan........ :wizard:

This restaurant is going to be the Princess Characters at all meals starting April 10th and will be "family style" according to the CM I spoke with yesterday. At lunch she said there will be cold salads, fish, beef and chicken of some sorts as the warm foods. The menu was vague, but I'm hoping to hear some feedback from fellow Disers before I go.

I don't know what they will have at the character lunch but I had dinner there and it was wonderful. I don't eat fish but was stuffed from everything else since not everything is just fish.
We were able to eat as many cold items from the buffet and order as many hot items as we wanted. The hot items were very small portions so you could try as many as you liked.

There were: deli meats, cheeses, breads, chicken salad, cabbage salad, pasta salad, potato salad, beet salad, ham and egg salad, eggs, crab salad, tuna salad, salad and dressings, shrimp salad, some fish, shrimp

The hot items included:
*Chicken Fettuccine Pasta w/ sundried tomatoes which was SO delicious
*cod dish w/ mashed potatoes, this is what my mom had and she loved it.
*venison stew, my dad has this and he really enjoyed it.
*Viking's Favorite which included meatballs, rutabaga, veggies, and boiled potatoes
*grilled salmon
*lamb and cabbage
*meatballs which my dad also had and loved!

My mom and I split the Veiled Maiden which was applesauce layered with sweet bread crumbs and whipped cream.
We also had the berry tart which was filled with a sweet custard and had mixed berries on top. YUM!
