Tell me about 50's Prime Time

Thinking about doing 50's Prime Time on our next trip--tell me all about it! Will my kids like it? We've done Sci-Fi, so I was looking for something a little different.

My kids didn't "get" 50s Prime Tie like I was hoping they would. Maybe because our server wasn't all that into it ? He did remind DH to take his elbows off the table, eat his veggies, but that's about it. Sadly, it was "just" a restaurant to them- not an experience. They LOVE WCC for the atmosphere & jokes. BTW. they are 8 & 4.

We have eaten there on two different trips and will most likely go again next time as well. This last trip, July 2007, MaddieMouse was 3 1/2 and EvanMouse was 10. They both thought our waiter was hilarious! MaddieMouse still talks about "No elbows on the table, Mommy", and EvanMouse remembers this incident: At the next table, there was a teenage boy who had gone to the bathroom. He came out, and our waiter asked him, "Did you wash your hands?" The kid just kind of mumbled something, yeah, and the waiter said, "So what color was the soap?" The kid turned bright red, and the waiter ordered him back to the bathroom, while the rest of us in the room shook our fingers and said, "Shame! Shame!" EvanMouse will not forget that anytime soon!

Aside from the entertainment, the food is actually pretty good too. We look at it as a dinner and a show, and really do enjoy it there.

We had Cousin Mikey and he was INCREDIBLE! I love, love, love him!! He made the whole experience for us and was totally into the act.

The food was OK to poor depending on the order, but the atmosphere and service will have us back again!

If you get a good server it's a blast, and the kids love seeing mom and dad get scolded.

We were there once when a man at a table near us kept putting his elbows on the table. The waitress dragged his chair across the room and sat him with us. His kids were besides themselves laughing.

It's alot of fun.

The food is really good. When we get there, I always ask for a "kitchen" table with the tv. We have to wait a little longer but its worth it. Over the years, we've eaten there about 4 times. We've had the chicken soup, pot roast, the fried chicken, salmon, shakes and the brownie sundae (that I can recall) and everything has always been really good. The pot roast and the fried chicken were the best of what I remember having to eat. You'll love it - have fun!

It was great eating there, for us. I don't know how old a child would have to be to understand the 50's theme but....as grown women we all enjoyed it. Our waiter did the usual no elbows on the table thing. But at the end of the meal when my friend hadn't eaten any of her vegetables, the waiter came out with a giant plate filled with veggies and ordered her to eat the whole plate! It was a hoot. We were also lucky enough to be seated at a table with a tv, which was very cool. The tv showed clips from the original Mickey Mouse club, and clips from Rin-Tin-Tin, along with other old shows throughout our meal. And the Ma's kitchen theme really DID make the whole setting much more cozy! The food, I recall was good not great. The chicken was pretty good. I didn't care much though. It filled me up and I was too busy enjoying the atmosphere anyway!

We have eaten at 50's every trip, we will make a point of going back in April. I wouldn't dream of missing it. We have always had a good server who was "into it". But, of course, you always take a chance with servers. We always heard people rave about WCC, but when we went, our server was not very fun. He called himself "Crazy Chad", but he barely smiled. We watched with envy at the other servers, who were really silly and made a fun dining experience for patrons. Poor Crazy Chad..maybe he was having a bad day. He was nice, but we did expect more, based on what we had read prior to our trip. But it's the chance you take. It wasn't a bad experience, it just wasn't special.
The food at 50's is good, not great. But I love the atmosphere so much, that even if we get a server who doesn't care about being in character, it will still be my favorite restaurant at WDW.

I would really like to try out 50's Prime Time - but I have one question...

I do not like veggies (Shock, Horror, and yes, I do know they are good for me ) but I just can't bring myself to even eat one spoonful!

What would the severs say if I asked for my meal WITHOUT veg? Maybe this way there wouldn't be any left on my plate at the end of the meal and I wouldn't be forced to eat them before I was allowed to have dessert!

Okay, I'm the wet blanket in the group. It wasn't great either time we went. Maybe it was due to the servers as neither one got into their role as "Mom". On our second visit, the greeter/hostess yelled at us to hurry it up or there would be no dessert, but that's about the only time we felt someone wanted to play along. If you like 50's vintage furniture, appliances, wallpaper, the whole decor thing then you'll appreciate that part as it's very true to life back then (yes, I remember it from firsthand experience ) The food is expensive imho for what you get (not meaning portion size but the food itself). Would I try it a third time to see if we got better results? Probably not.

We didn't care for the pretend that you are related to someone
you never meet before in your life thing.

The Server who was supposed to be our Cousin could hardly speak
English (could hardly understand what she was saying).
They will really go on and on about you finishing everything on your
plate so be prepared to eat all you veggies.

The restaurant was very busy and noisey.
We were a small group of 3 and had to sit in a booth next
to another group which they introduced us to as our cousins,
a very loud anoiying group of women.
it was like we were part of their table,--awkward!!

Only plus was my food was good but it was hard to enjoy it
with all the pressure that was put on you to finish everything on
your plate even if you are full.
We didn't order dessert, we were
to full and couldn't wait to get out of the Twilight Zone.

The food is great comfort food and the interaction with CM server is a hoot.We try to dine here at least once on each visit to WDW.The tit for tat with your server makes the experience more for us than the food.The food is good we love the meatloaf and I like the onion rings.

DH and I are sort of picky eaters and we tend to determine where we will eat based on the menu from here (click on the Dining option or wdwinfo.com) or from allearsnet.com. That being said we've always enjoyed the food here and did so in December when we visited last.

We go every trip. Meals have always been good.

Tink,too: You can always do what my sis-in-law did with her veggies -- She hid them under the paper that was in one of the little baskets that something else came in!
When my husband ate everything on his plate on one visit, Li'l Sis Christin held up his plate and made an announcement to the whole restaurant that he was a member of the clean plate club!

And one time at one of our neighboring tables, the server sent the father back to the bathroom to wash his hands after she inspected them.

This place is a lot of fun. You just have to go realizing you are in a large, busy, noisy place that is expensive anywhere you go, so enjoy where you are at the moment. If you want cheap, don't plan on going to Disney World for heaven's sake!

The Prime time is a tricky kind of place...
For some its one of the best places to eat and for others ...not so much.

If your family is more on the quiet conservative side, I would pick another place just to be safe. If your family is more outgoing and can appreciate being jokingly fussed at then this place is a total riot!

Its one of our favorite places to eat. we have always had a fun server! One time the server actually put a bib on DH and fed him airplane style in front of everyone of course DH has a good sense of humor about stuff like this so we were all falling over each other laughing... another DH might not find this very funny!

We have been introduced to the family at the next table as long lost cousins Luckily they too have had a good sense of humor.

If you like to "role play" and have a good time by being outgoing then you should love Prime time. If you are conservative or aren't into "playing along" and just want to sit there and eat ... you won't get much out of it.

TIP: If you want to get the most out of the servers ... remember you have to give them something to work with. If your family just sits there like a couple of lumps the servers don't have the chance to ply some of their methods on you! Get into the role ... call the server Aunt Ally, cousin Mike... whatever it is they go by... By NO means be rude or cause them problems ... just play along with them and ham it up

I went to The 50's Prime Time Cafe in November with my family..and extended family so there were 5 adults and 5 kids. I have to say when I went many years ago..pre kids..my hubby and I loved it. This time it was not great! The service was horrible! I get the whole act but my kids did not. I felt they were actually mean instead of funny. Our food took 2 hours!!!! The whole concept got really old when you are trying to fend off 5 kids who are starving! I am returning in August with just my family and we will try the Sci-Fi...I wouldn't do the Prime Time again...do not do it with small kids...they do not get the "odd behavior" of the servers. Just my opinion

We loved the experience, but I will say that the price is not comparable with the food.

Our server was awesome. He played the whole image to a tee. When I asked for my burger with no mushrooms he asked me if I saw a Burger King sign up front saying I could have it my way. I told him that for 14 dollars a sandwich I could have it my way if I wanted.

This British family sat down a few minutes later right beside us. Oldest son asked for same sandwich as me, same way. I could not get my head turned quick enough before the waiter called me out. It was funny for both families. We enjoyed the rest of our meal, and visited with this nice family from Liverpool.

We love 50's Prime Time. We always have a great time with the servers, and its a lot of fun. Not to mention that the pot roast and milkshakes are awesome!

We were there last February with our two daughters, ages at the time 12 and 14. They thought the server interaction/scolding was cute, but they were terrified that the server would really make an issue of something and embarrass them in front of the whole restaurant (she didn't). The food, however, was pretty yucky. It had a cafeteria-taste to it. My girls did not like the fried chicken at all, which they typically love. When I tasted theirs, it had this pre-packaged nasty taste. I had the pot roast. It was tasteless and stringy. I'm quite sure the mashed potatoes were of the boxed variety. The atmosphere gets a B+, but please don't go in expecting good food. You will be very disappointed.

Oh gosh...when we went (8 of us)...our "brother" made me get up and set another table with silverware etc after the customers had sat down...I dropped the knife in the man's lap (okay...and I am really a waitress) because I was so flustered and everyone around us was cracking up.

He repeatedly scolded our husbands and he had birthday cards (for me and my cousin's husband..it was our 40th bdays) sent around the restaurant for the other customers to sign and put where they were from on them...great keepsake!!

My cousin didn't finish her veggies and he brought her out for "dessert" on the house French Fries covered in Whipped Cream and sprinkles!!!

Food was okay...but the whole experience was GREAT!!
