On the other hand, a cable show that premiered on Sunday looks promising. Shameless features William R. Macy in a role unlike any I've seen him in and a pretty good supporting cast. It's quirky, in the mode of Californication.

I liked this one so much that I'm afraid. Usually, when I feel this strongly about a new show, it's gone quickly.

I happily watched both hours of The Cape and I LOVED it. The other new show I watched (but wasn't on your list) was Lights Out. Really enjoyed that, too. It's on FX and it premiered on Tuesday.

Just Being Human, White Collar and Royal Pains this week for me,

Winter Wipeout question: is this just a mini season or a full season? I was somewhat suprised to see it back so early.

At least 8 episodes for Winter Wipeout. There will be at least 24 in total in 2011. They did 18 last summer, so I suspect those 8 will be the entire Winter season.

Updated message #2 with the latest set of links to Television Series-related DIS threads. If you happen to participate in a Television Series-related thread here on the DIS, please review that list if you have a chance, and let me know if there are any missing. Thanks.

Royal Pains is missing from the list:

The Criminal Minds spinoff, "Suspect Behavior" will be combined as part of the current Criminal Minds thread. The show is set to air right after CM, so we'll just keep talking. :hyper2:

Bicker, thank you for all the hard work, diligence & precision you do in the TV show threads. Very valuable info you have compiled for us. It is obviously a passion of yours. :thumbsup2

I'm also terribly sorry  I snarked at you on another thread, a while back. I am apologizing on one of your threads, so you and everyone else knows it was uncalled for. :flower3:

I updated the list of Television Show-specific Threads.

Don't worry about that other thread. People get passionate about things - I consider that a good thing! :thumbsup2

Premieres:
Archer (FX)

Nearly two months after TNT announced that the show’s upcoming seventh season would be its last, sources confirm that the network is now looking at ways to keep the lucrative franchise going — perhaps without leading lady Kyra Sedgwick (whose desire to leave at the end of Season 7 prompted TNT to pull the plug in the first place).

One option being bandied about has TNT merely extending the final season from 15 to 21 episodes. Another scenario involves the net continuing the series with a new lead (Mary McDonnell’s Capt. Sharon Raydor, perhaps?) or launching a spinoff.

Fringe had excellent ratings for it's Friday slot. A lot of people, including some of the prognosticators at tvbythenumbers thinks it could potentially be saved. :thumbsup2

I'm so glad 90210 comes back tonight. I guess it's my guilty pleasure, but I think the writing is really good. The acting isn't stellar, but I miss it when it's not on!

I recorded Archer this week. I've never watched it, but the previews I saw intrigued me.

Finales:
Lie To Me (Fox)

Wednesday, February 02, 2011
Finales:
Cougar Town (ABC) {returns in Spring}

Saturday, February 05, 2011
Off-Network Premiere:
Glee (Oxygen)

A couple of notes...

I have a sneaking suspicion that that episode of Lie To Me is the last one... ever.

And it seems very quick for Glee to be rebroadcast on cable already.

One of my favorite blogs, and one of the most reliably accurate sources for predictions of whether television series are going to be renewed or canceled, has put up their end-of-January update. It's pretty interesting.

Of the new shows Already Canceled, the only one I didn't think would fail badly was Undercovers, however that became obvious after a few episodes and we dropped it early. The other new series Already Canceled either held no interest for us (The Whole Truth, My Generation, Life Unexpected, Running Wilde) or I could tell from the descriptions and casting that they'd be horrible (The Good Guys, Lone Star, and Outlaw). While not canceled yet, the same goes for a couple of "Certain To Be Canceled" series (Detroit 1-8-7 and The Defenders).

Of the other new series that are listed as "Certain To Be Canceled", the only one that I thought might be good was No Ordinary Family. This is one of the series that we recorded "just in case..." and actually ended up watching. Big regrets there, given that we missed some episodes of NCIS as a result. I won't be sad to see it gone.

I started getting suspicious about The Event when they started over-hyping this show, but they eventually hooked us into trying it. We dropped it mid-season so the fact that they call it "Certain To Be Canceled" won't affect us.

The Cape is the only "Certain To Be Canceled" new series that we're still watching. We weren't planning on it. It really didn't seem like it was going to be successful, but we've "lost" so many series this year (Undercovers, Medium, and Lie To Me) that we needed something to fill it with. It's not really that good, and since I trust the prediction that it is "Certain To Be Canceled" so much, rather than letting this show set me up to be left hanging by a cliff-hanger, I think we'll drop it now.

The other new series "Certain To Be Canceled" either didn't fit into our plans from the start (Chase), or didn't appeal to us from the start (Perfect Couples).

Most of the new series listed as "On The Bubble" are series we thought from the start wouldn't be that good (Better With You, Harry's Law, Outsourced), or shows that we watched the first episode and dumped as a result (Blue Bloods, $#*! My Dad Says). We are watching Off The Map, despite early misgivings about the premise of the series (again, this was due to how many series we "lost"). I'm a little surprised that this show is so far down the list. It's actually not just "On The Bubble" but really very close to the "Likely To Be Canceled" state. This is the only show that is down this far in the ratings that I'd be disappointed if it was canceled.

I'm glad so see the one new series that we really like (Hawaii Five-0) in the "Likely To Be Renewed" category. I'm also glad to see Nikita seems to be safe.

The status of all the veteran series are relatively predictable. I figured Medium was going to die, though am perhaps a little surprised that they decided to end it in January instead of May (this May or last May for that matter). Lie To Me has been hanging on by a thread for a while, so while I'm sad to see it go, it's not a big surprise. Nor is V. Seeing The Good Wife, Fringe and Chuck all On The Bubble is a bit disconcerting, but I am hopeful that two of the three will survive (Fringe being a casualty of how many hours need to be cleared for X-Factor next season).

Brothers & Sisters is worth a mention. It's so far down the "On The Bubble" list that smart money would be to bet it is gone. Though we watched it religiously in past years, we didn't even watch the premiere this past Fall. I guess we weren't alone.
