*** Television Winter 2011 ***

I wish that that list included cable. I understand that my favorite cable show The Glades was also renewed.

This is my current understanding of what cable dramas will be back (either sooner or later):

A&E - The Glades
ABC Family - Make It or Break It, Secret Life of the American Teenager
AMC - Breaking Bad, Mad Men, Walking Dead
FX- Justified, Rescue Me, Sons of Anarchy
HBO - Boardwalk Empire, Treme, True Blood
Lifetime - Army Wives, Drop Dead Diva
Showtime - Dexter
Starz - Torchwood, Spartacus Blood and Sand (the original series, not the prequel)
Syfy - Eureka, Haven, Sanctuary, Stargate Universe (but then gone), Warehouse 13
TNT - The Closer, Hawthorne, Leverage, Memphis Beat, Men of a Certain Age, Rizzoil & Isles
USA - Burn Notice, Covert Affairs, Psych

And it seems very quick for Glee to be rebroadcast on cable already.

I was thinking the same thing (and not just because I hate it. LOL).

I really wanted to like No Ordinary Family, but it didn't happen. I'm the person who watched Lone Star. Yes. The ONLY person. Ha. I enjoyed the first episode immensely, and barely paid attention to the second because at that time I already knew they canceled it.

I really, really, really like The Cape. Will be bummed if it gets canceled. But I will be devastated if Chuck gets the axe.

Luckily, I also like Hawaii Five-0. At least I don't have to worry about that one.

*sigh*

Very happy to hear they will be back! :woohoo:

There's a lesson to be learned here, put your stock in cable shows. Most of what I'm watching is on the list above. I only watch a handful of shows on network TV anymore.

I don't see Damages in the FX list. Is it coming back?

Give Blu Bloods another try, bicker. It really isn't bad and how can you not watch a show with Tom Selleck in it? He is such an incredible screen presence.

Well, that's a dual-edged sword. Many cable shows get only 13 episodes per season, so if they last 6 years it is like a regular television series being canceled after three years.

Also keep in mind how often we see people complaining about there being so many reruns and pre-emptions (such as this week and last), and/or how interminable the standard 13 week hiatus from season finale to the next season premiere is - imagine a 26 week hiatus being par-for-the-course every year for every series.

Finally, most cable channels are deliberately lower-budget than the broadcast networks. That's going to eventually have a negative quality on the quality of the productions.

Yes, but not on any of the networks I keep my eye on very closely - specifically, it'll eventually be back on DirecTV 101. (I've got to remember to check over there more often.)

That's actually what I didn't like about the show, most. :)

Crap, not FX? Guess I'll have to watch online.

DirecTV 101 hasn't put its series online. You'll need to wait until its second run, and/or catch it on Netflix, etc.

Idle question for folks, especially fans of the series, Nikita. The network had ordered 22 episodes for this season. If you recall, the series started a couple of weeks earlier than most series. They've already broadcast 12 episodes, and will broadcast four more in February (including tomorrow night's episode). The CW has also committed to a "full" schedule in May - in other words, they're not going to be running reruns during May sweeps, but rather will run four more new episodes of Nikita between April 28 and May 19.

So that leaves two more new episodes, but with all of March and almost all of April to scheduled them into.

So, if you were in charge, when would you schedule those two episodes? Early March? Late April? In between? During back-to-back weeks, or one at a time?

(By the way, similar story with Vampire Diaries:13 episodes behind us; three more in February; four more from April 28 to May 19; so two episodes to put somewhere in March and April.)

I'm inclined to say late March, to break up the string of reruns, but I wonder if it's better to just tack them onto the end of February and go on hiatus until the last four in May to wrap things up for the season. Sometimes to stray episodes can get lost if you plant them in the middle of a bunch of rerun episodes.

Yeah, it's a tough choice. Some people argue that an eight or nine week hiatus might cause some folks to just give up on the series, though if that's the case, how will they feel about a 13 week summer hiatus? Seems to me that if someone's attention span is too short to withstand a 13 week summer hiatus, then they're not worth trying to keep as a viewer now. So I'd rather see them do the longer hiatus and tack the two episodes onto either the end of February/beginning of March, or more likely, stick them in the second half of April.

Isn't In Plain Sight coming back to USA?

Every time I see this thread being updated, I worry that it's going to have some bad cancelation news!!

(I think that's why I like movies so much... they don't get canceled twenty minutes in... LOL.)

A few things we can rely on: Death, taxes, and cancellations. But also, on new series being introduced. :thumbsup2

Medium's series finale was January 21.
