*** Television, Fall 2009 ***

Yeah, this coming week is of course the most "premiere-filled" week we're going to get.

In this list, though, you can really see some pretty significant trends, like just how much CBS offers as compared to NBC, for example. Not that that makes CBS better than NBC -- it doesn't -- but the two are surely different in their approaches.

bicker ~ don't forget about Smallville on Friday the 25th! :)

We just finished the last DVD of season 8 last night. One of the better Smallville finales IMO!

Still waiting on the darn DVR so I'll be getting the VCRs set up today...just not sure if I'm taping Fringe or Community.

No idea how I missed Smallville. Thanks for catching that!

We're catching Season 8 in reruns. We have the second-to-last episode already recorded, and will record the season finale tomorrow.

So I think we're going to be playing hardball with the cable company this fall. They're not extending our promotional rate, and I have a hard time justifying paying $150 extra (over three months) for what will end up being only about 75 hours of programming, the vast majority of which we would only be recording now for playback later, when without digital cable we would still have 300 hours of programming to watch (off our antenna), costing us only about $30 (over three months -- the amount of the discount we get on HSI because we also have cable), and of course it is mostly that 300 hours of over-the-air programming that we'll actually be watching. The 75 hours of cable programming we'd be missing we could easily catch up on (at least most of it) next summer or after, on DVD or Blu-Ray, for about $40 max (through Netflix) -- probably closer to $20.

Series Premiere of Accidentally on Purpose (CBS)
Season Premiere of Two and a Half Men (CBS)
Season Premiere of Big Bang Theory (CBS)
Season Premiere of CSI: Miami (CBS)

So this is the first big night of premieres for the season. Everyone have their DVRs set already? :)

I've decided to record Accidentally on Purpose on my old analog DVR. You have to give Jenna Elfman credit for taking one for the team: Her character was supposed to be pregnant throughout the first season, so Jenna, being the trooper she is, decided to add to the realism by getting pregnant herself. Of course, that was a bit of a disappointment to all the props people who were working on fitting her for pregnant-belly prosthetics. :)

Tonight will be packed so pending tonight's dances at DWTS I'll be hopping between that, House and Heroes.

For all HOUSE fans...the season premier tonight will be 2 hours and ONE MINUTE!!! :happytv:

HOUSE
"Broken" - 8 \ 7c
**2-HOUR 1 MIN SEASON PREMIERE**
-- "HOUSE" -- (8:00-10:01 PM ET/PT)

HOUSE SEEKS PSYCHIATRIC HELP ON THE ALL-NEW TWO-HOUR SEASON PREMIERE OF "HOUSE" MONDAY, SEPTEMBER 21, ON FOX - NOTE THE SPECIAL END TIME

House begins a detox program at Mayfield Psychiatric Hospital to get the vicodin out of his system in an attempt to control his hallucinations. House plans to leave the treatment facility once he is clean, but he is strong-armed into staying by his attending physician, Dr. Darryl Nolan (guest star Andre Braugher). Dr. Nolan agrees to write a recommendation to reinstate House's medical license only if House agrees to further treatment. When House is moved to a new ward in the hospital, he develops a close relationship with his new roommate, Alvie (guest star Lin-Manuel Miranda), and Lydia (guest star Franka Potente), a frequent visitor who helps House bend the rules. House asks Alvie to help him uncover incriminating information about Dr. Nolan that would allow him to blackmail his way out of the treatment center and convinces Lydia to loan him her car to sneak out a delusional patient in an attempt by House to undermine Dr. Nolan's course of treatment. But when devastating events ensue, House is humbled into reluctantly accepting help in "Broken," the special two-hour Season Premiere episode of HOUSE airing Monday, Sept. 21 (8:00-10:01 PM ET/ PT) on FOX. [VIEWER'S NOTE: LIE TO ME is preempted this evening.]

Interesting: Fox rarely deliberately overflows into their local affiliates' time slot.

Adding that to the list in the first message of the thread.

Glee has been picked up for the full season.

I wouldn't worry about Jay Leno. He ensured himself a couple of years to prove himself, with his contract. Besides, NBC is actually still making money on the Leno thing even with the ratings he got last night.

I'd be more concerned about Heroes.

Did anyone watch The Forgotten (Tuesday)? It was a definite hit here! :thumbsup2

I thought Community was so-so. There were a couple of parts that really made me laugh but there seemed to be more that was almost painful to sit through. I'll probably catch it in repeats but it's certainly no competition for Fringe in our house.

Eastwick...I'm on the fence about this one. I'll give it another shot but it really seemed to be all over the map in the pilot last night. I hope it gets into a groove because it's got a great cast.

We're taping Flash Forward tonight while we watch Vampire Diaries and I have really high hopes for this one!

I'm also watching the first seasons on True Blood and Dexter on DVD and On Demand and I'm loving both of them! :thumbsup2

We're still a day or two behind.... so far:

Vampire Diaries was just okay. Community is borderline. Mercy as well. Forgotten is just okay. Modern Family was very funny. Accidentally on Purpose was just okay. The Good Wife was good, but could get better. FlashForward was great.
