Next week: Finales for Secret Life of the American Teenager, 10 Things I Hate About You, Leverage; Premieres of Durham County, 90210, Melrose Place, Sons of Anarchy, Glee, Vampire Diaries, Supernatural, 20/20, Cops, America's Most Wanted, Robin Hood

(This week, and perhaps next week as well, I'm posting this weekly update of premieres, specials and finales in both the Summer and Fall threads.)

Already excited about Supernatural but Thursday is now packed with The Mentalist moving.

I have made some significant updates to the first couple of messages in this thread, adding in schedules for some cable channels, and adding some details to information about season premieres. I've also added several more links to program-specific threads.

Another addition for this fall: The "back 9" of Mythbusters' seventh season starts October 7, and continues through the beginning of December.

I think I saw last night that they're moving One Tre HIll to 8pm, which would TOTALLY ruin my ability to watch it. Grrrrr.

1) Which shows will be big hits (and surely renewed for 2010-2011)?
- Flash Forward
- The Cleveland Show
- NCIS LA (both former shows were hits, so I'm thinking this will be no different... and the eye candy is good!)
- Cougar Town (totally wishful thinking here, because I love Courtney Cox... I really have no idea!)
- Community

2) Which shows, while not necessarily big hits, will be at least renewed for 2010-2011?
- Melrose
- Accidentally on Purpose

3) Which shows will be canceled before episode 13 is broadcast?
I have a bad feeling about Three Rivers, just because of the rather narrow subject matter. I think it looks really interesting and I like Alex O'L, but I have a feeling that it won't be around long. I'm not real up on the demographics, so I don't know if the time frame is good or not. Most people I know (myself included) watch football on Sunday nights. When I glanced at the other stuff that's on during that time, my guess is that it's going to be the odd man out.

4) Which comedy and which drama will be the first canceled in their respective genre?
Comedy -- Modern Family
Drama -- hard to say; the shows that I would be tempted to pick aren't on any of the big three networks so they'll probably last longer than they should. Unfortunately, I'm going with my post above and saying Three Rivers.

I'm always wrong, though :)

Thursday is very packed! I have 8 shows on Thursday night! 6 are definites that I already watch and am going to give Vampire Diaries and Flash Forward a try for new shows.

I may give Trauma a shot, the preview looked good but am kinda full up on medical dramas which will probably be the reason I don't watch Three Rivers even though the premise sounds interesting.

I picked up Castle over the summer, glad that was renewed as I really enjoyed it.

Ahhh... the magic of DVRs. :)

The strongest thing Three Rivers has going for it, in this regard, is that it is starting so late, so it is therefore much less likely to be the first show canceled. :lmao:

Two bits of news today:

First Katherine Heigl (Izzy) is taking a leave of absence from Grey's Anatomy this fall, overlapping with Ellen Pompeo's (Meredith) leave of absence. It is being represented as not a big deal; there are more than enough other characters in the ensemble.

Second (and this is really about the Winter television season, not the fall...), Kristen Kruek (Lana from Smallville) has been cast in a recurring role on Chuck.

Ahhh the DVR. That will be recording Heroes/Chuck while I'm watching DWTS. *sigh*

Premieres of One Tree Hill, Gossip Girl, Lincoln Heights, Jay Leno Show, Biggest Loser, The Beautiful Life, Bones, Survivor, Parks & Recreation, Fringe, The Office, Community, It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia, Crash.

I've moved the list of Television Show-specific Threads, to the top of the first message in this thread, so that they're easier to find, and, most importantly, so it is much less likely that I'll inadvertently delete them updating the list of premieres (which, indeed, I almost did do).

Can't wait for The Office! One of the producers sent a wonderful letter to our local newspaper thanking our community for the local scenes that were shot here.

(I wonder if the plans to shoot scenes at the Falls were already underway at the end of last season when Michael Scott inadvertently announced the closing of the Dunder Mifflin Buffalo office???)

Bicker, do you know if 'Mental' on Fox was renewed from a second season? I can't find anything official online. I really enjoyed the show!

Nothing definitive yet on Mental. It is an inexpensive series to produce (since it is made in Columbia, South America), but it wasn't a run-away hit, so renewal seems unlikely.

Thanks for the info. I didn't know it was filmed in South America! How interesting.

Guess I can just hope for a renewal.....they did tie up alot of loose ends on the finale- so if it isn't renewed atleast I have some closure. I did enjoy the show though.

That's a major trend, these days, to try to better match production costs with revenue potential. American production companies have been making television series in Canada, Australia and New Zealand for years, because technical talent is both less costly there, and union rules don't drive costs up as much. However, there is still more room for improvement. More and more we're seeing US networks buying programming from non-traditional sources. Merlin was acquired from the BBC. Mental was acquired from Fox Telecolumbia. Flashpoint was a joint venture with CTV.

Hey bicker, I'm hoping you can help me. I'm trying to remember the name of a new show that is coming out for this Fall and on what network it will be on. It's about a cop that gets a con man out of prison to help him solve crimes. That is all that I remember from the commercial.

Thank you so much for putting all this info together. It saves me from having to do all the research on when my favorite shows will be on or if they will be on.

That's the upcoming USA Network series, White Collar, premiering October 23:
