Telescope - Help Needed

I posted on the CB but not getting any respones.

Hopefull somebody can help me out even a little.

I want to get my DH a Telescope for our Anniversary and I don't have a clue what to look for when purchasing one.

Any information in what to look for would be great!

Other than suggesting a cheap dSLR with (at least) 500mm lens, can't help you. Sorry.

I forgot to ask dh last night so I could get you more info, I know that there is lens size issue and some other things.....hang in there I will try to remember and post again tonight!

What type..refractor or reflector? Will he be taking photo's thru it? What price range are you thinking of? What type of climate do you live in? Just a few questions to start with.

Thank you guys for helping.

I live in Florida.

I was trying to keep it around the $150-$200 range. He is just a beginner so i don't see the need for spending anymore.

I did get some help from a fellow Dis'er. So now I am looking at the Meade 114EQ or something like that. With a Deluxe Mount.

As far as the Reflector or Refractor? I don't have a clue what those are or what you would use them for.
