:worried: Today I heard from my Best friend that her boyfriend and my boyfriend's cousin were in an accident. :guilty:

My boyfriend's cousin, Nathan (13), and my best friend's boyfriend Alex (13) were out Saturday night riding four-wheelers.

They got bored and Nathan suggested that it would be fun if they took a part off of their shells for their shot-guns and just shot the powder. :(

Alex was hesitant but, he agreed. Alex did his and turned the gun away from him and faced the other direction but, Nathan didn't and he held as if you were just going to shoot. The gun backfired. :sad1:

The shell came through his eye-socket.

This next part is a bit gross but just highlight here to read >> Nathan fell to the ground and Alex rushed over to pick him up. When he did, the gel out of his eye came out and got all over Alex.

Alex (who is 4'12'' and weighs about 89 lbs.) picked Nathan up and drove to his house nearby. Alex's Mom told Nathan to open his eyes to see the damage. What they saw made Alex and his Dad get sick. :worried:

Nathan was rushed to the hospital and into surgery. :worried:

Okay, I just talked to my BF, Clay, and he said that his Mom called and the surgery was enough to save his eye, but he is blind in it. If the surgery had been unsuccessful, he would have had to get a porcelain one. :(

Right now, Nathan cannot do anything but lay on the couch. It hurts him to look around. :(

Clay sounded okay, but Alex is feeling majorly guilty. :guilty:

Please be careful around guns....The consequences are horrible. :sad1:

LOL. I'm sorry, but I couldn't help but laugh. I'm glad he's alright. Should teach him not to mess around with lethal weapons like that anymore.

Yes, he learned his lesson and I'm sorry, but I really don't think it's something to laugh about. :worried: (no offence)
Because of his one horrible mistake he'll never be able to live a normal life. It was very wrong for him to do that, but honestly, I don't know anyone around here that doesn't own a shot-gun. Everyone's favorite past-time here is hunting.

Losing his eyesight is not funny. :worried:

I know, and I know I shouldn't laugh. I just can't help it. I'm terrible when it comes to stuff like that.

Yeah, I kind of know what you mean. I have know idea what to say to My BF or Alex...I'm afraid I'll say something wrong. :confused3

I am so sorry to hear about the terrible accident that happened to your best friend's boyfriend. :( I agree, guns are never safe.

I'm so sorry to haer that also Sarah!!!

Thanks Tara! :grouphug:
Alex is feeling really guilty. :guilty: Some mean people at school are blaming him. He is one of the sweetest guys y'all will ever meet and I can't believe that they'd accuse him of something like that. :sad1:

Guns are extremely safe if you know how to handle them. Guns do not go off by themselves, its always a stupid mistake on someones part. Your friend most certainly is to blame seeing as this whole thing could have been prevented had he turned the other way to clean his shotgun.

Please re-read the OP, WDWHunk, Sarah did not say anything about anyone cleaning a gun.

Did the surgery work? or will he have to go back in for surgery and a glass eye made? It's a sad lesson in life to learn the hard way... look on the bright side He may be blind in the one eye but he still has his life. Although his life is altered it does not make him any less of a person and he can still do amazing things with his life. He's just taking a different approach to life.

You're quite right. I skimmed the original post, my mistake.

I still however stand by my original post if not more strongly this time around. I thought they were just cleaning the guns, but to shoot one in the same direction as someone? Thats definitely unforgiveable. It doesn't matter if its "just the powder", these kids are 13 yrs old. They shouldn't be playing with guns by themselves in the first place.

like someoe else said you might want to reread it. he didnt shot it at someone, he just didnt turn his head in the other direction when he shot it. and the gun back fired, so basically he shot himself.

and im really sorry to hear about what happened to your friend. i hope he gets better.

Guns are safe. People aren't. I'm sorry, but this was a stupid mistake and they are both lucky to be alive.
They've learned their lesson, the hard way.
I'm very sorry that this had to happen, but better it happen now than later, when you or your best friend we with them.

  to OP

I'm sorry; that's so awful! But I do agree, it was pretty stupid to do. I don't think people should blame Alex for it, because Nathan agreed to do it, but I guess that's just the way they see it.

Hope Nathan feels better! Better an eye than his life.

Thanks y'all!

I'm not sure if Nathan will have another surgery or not? :confused3

Clay (my BF) said that He still has his actual eye, but the shell did major damage and the blindness looks to be permanent. :sad1:

Thank you. :rose:
