Teenagers/Adults Screaming on Rides

My husband and I were there without our kids (woo!) Tues. & Wed. of this week. There were definitely teens everywhere! The screaming was pretty out of hand on some of the rides. So was the kids talking constantly through the rides. We couldn't hear hardly a word of POTC over the group of 4 teen girls in front of us one time. I was very glad that we have AP's and had rode it dozens of times before and knew what was being said. I even recall mentioning to my husband that I don't think I was that obnoxious when I was a teenager.

IMO, what was worse for us than the screaming was the line cutting. OMG, I thought I'd have to kill some kids that kept cutting. It's one thing if just one kid goes to catch up with his or her group. But it seemed like on every single ride that someone was on their cellphones telling their friends that they are "like totally in the front of space mountain" or whatever and to come and join them. We literally had a group of 15 kids cut in front of us on Space Mountain. Now that burns my butt. I did not wait in line 60 minutes just to have a huge group of kids cut in front of me and make me wait another 15! :furious: (One lady even got nasty with some teens for doing that on POTC and said something to the CM. He was like "ehhh, sorry, nothing I can do". :confused3 )

Even the Space Mountain line cutting deal didn't compare to what happened when we got off the ride. Right as we were pulling in to get off, a teen boy leaned over and dumped his water bottle all over those of us in the rocket. It got me, DH, and 4 teen girls behind us all wet. I was so furious I swear I was seeing red!

That said, I did encounter a few very polite teens who said excuse me, wouldn't let their friends cut, etc. So obviously it depends on the teen.

Oh my goodness...how rude. If i were there id make some sort of comment to a friend. When me and my besty are at our fave theme parks here in Australia, we encounter every now and then the same sort of thing...teenagers acting awefully immature!! We're both only 22 ourselves so we're by no means grown ups ahaha!

The best line we throw to each other in a mild tone (not tooo loud) "wow..some people need to grow up don't you think? " usually followed by a big laugh and an eye roll lol

I have no qualms about letting rude people know they're rude!

btw...this is my first post!!!!

*waves*

When I was in high school, we had a school trip to Rye Beach, a park in Rye, NY. Every year I think we brought liquid soap to dump in a ride called "The Old Mill". It was like a Tunnel of Love ride. By the end of the day, it would be shut down, and suds were everywere.

I really feel bad about this now. But at least it was not a major ride, at a Disney caliber park. What I cannot really figure out is why we thought it was so funny. Well, seeing the suds was funny I guess, but we actually really looked forward to doing it.

My daughter likes to scream on HM, just at the point when they show that ghost body hanging from the rafters in the preshow..... geez, apple, meet tree.

I took my first trip to Disneyland last month--our first day was a very crowded Saturday, and my dad and I were both commenting that the place seemed much more like ObnoxiousTeenagerLand than a Disney park. I felt like I was at the Six Flags back home in NJ.

I also remember walking through the castle towards Main Street that day--and found a little girl leaning over the drawbridge and spitting into the water. Not quite the wonderful image of Sleeping Beauty Castle that I envisioned when I planned this trip. :rolleyes1

Maybee we can get a petition going and have No Teens allowed Day once a month or something....lol Tweens just dont care about anyone else and go out of there way to be as obnoxicous as posible,

The very first time we rode ToT, we were lucky to be chosen as the "First Family" and got to ride it by ourselves. There were no screamers and the girls loved the ride. Later that day, we rode it again and had screamers. They screamed before anything happened and you could tell it was just for effect. Luckly my kids knew what to expect so it didn't bother them but the poor adult guy in front of us became more and more terrified with each scream. Needless to say, he hated the ride. :scared1:

There was also an issue with people in the ToT line upstairs spitting on the people downstairs. :scared:

I use the rude behavior has an opportunity to show my daughters what effect that kind of behavior has on people. I'm hoping that they are learning to have better respect for those around them in the process.

I'm sitting here reading all this and I NEVER remember being that rude and annoying when I was a teenager. I mean yeah, I did some stupid stuff but when it came to being in public I was also pretty respectful of others and was embarassed by the kids who acted to loud and stupid! I would have a fit and a half if this kind of rude behavior happend to me as much as it's happened to everyone else that's mentioned it on the boards.

Were there no CMs around then? I can't imagine they would let something like that pass . . . I would think actions like that would get someone thrown out of the park (at least I hope it would)

REading this post makes me sooo annoyed:headache:
That is truly a huge difference in WDW and DL...the type of people.....In past trips to DL we have seen the problem teens on many occasions. I had forgotton about all the stupid screamers/talkers until I read this post.

Oh...I really don't want to experience that crud on our trip. We finally talked Sis/Bil to visit DL with us...He has NEVER been....and I want it to be a nice trip with magical memories. :)

I notice it too and it's annoying.

I mean, I scream when I'm on rides that you actually should be screaming (TOT, BTMRR, Space, Splash.. etc), but I'm not screaming obnoxiously. I think it was last trip we were on HM and some teenagers were screaming during the elevator scene and I even thought to myself "if I was a little kid, I'd be pooing my pants right now!". It's stupid. :headache:

I agree. To put it mildly DD is not a big fan of HM but she rides it with a sweatshirt over her head. The teens ahead of us were so loud on the way up the people mover(conveyor belt as my DD calls it) I told them that there screaming was ruining this for my child and would they please stop.

We were there this week as well..with a 2 year old..The grads in front of us on Pirates ..alternated from screams (down the waterfalls) to... Johnny Depp ..I love you..throughout the ride..I even tapped one on the shoulder and asked her to be a bit quieter as she was scaring out 2 year old....She looked at her friend..laughed..and yelled..Johnny Depp..I can't tell you how much I love you any more..I am upsetting babies....!!!!

I was there last week during grad week as well and I was quite upset at how rude some of the kids were being. I'm only 20 and I went with my mom but we were having a hard time enjoying ourselves due to the amount of kids screaming and yelling obscene things. There was one night where we were soooo exhausted and we were taking the tram back to the Mickey and Friends parking structure during the fireworks show and I know that the fireworks can be quite booming but everytime one went off there was a group of girls that did the most shrill yell I have ever heard in my life. One firework yet they carried on screaming for at least a good minute afterwards. I don't know but personally I have only been to Disneyland twice and I respect everyone there and believe that everybody there is there for the samw purpose as me; to have fun and enjoy the magic of Disney...but it stinks when people start taking DL for granted and ruining it for those of us who LOVE IT!

We had the same experience at the fireworks, but it was a teenage boy. We found our spots about 45 mins before the show and 2 mins before the show a group of 4 teens squished themselves behind us. I was there with my mom and my two young children. As soon as the castle went dark the screaming started and didn't end until it was over. :furious: To make things worst, I video taped the show, and we watched it at home a couple of nights ago and all you can here is the screaming, it was so loud that you didn't even hear the booms from the fireworks. I wish I could upload it here for you all to hear, my DD (4) was really disappointed when we watched again at home, she said to me, "mommy, why is that boy screaming like that...I can't hear the talking and fireworks". It broke my heart because I told her I was going to record them so once we got home to Canada she could watch them and remember the fun time at Disney and now she doesn't want too because the screaming is too loud. I would have taped them again another night but they are only on weekends so we were only able to get them on Sunday night and we left on Thursday :worried: :furious:

First, for those of you who have been the past couple of weeks . . . do you think most of this was because of the large "end of the school year" groups? I'm going to be there in about a week (24th-26th) and really hope most of those groups are done by then!

Now, a little story:
When I was at DL last summer, I encountered several school groups during my final day. It was obvious as an earlier poster said because of the various color t-shirts the different groups were wearing. Some of them were extremely obnoxious, to the point that when I saw a group coming in a certain color shirt, I would just see where they went and go the other way! That said, there was one group that I noticed being very well behaved all day, every time I saw them. Ran into small sections of the "purple" group various times, and they never screamed inappropriately, never cut in line, and really stood out as a great bunch of kids.
Wouldn't you know it? As I lined up for the tram to the parking area, they were leaving as well, and most of the group with their leaders got on the same tram as me. Well, when we got to our cars and started walking to them, I made it a point to find one of their leaders and comment on how great the kids were. She was one of their teachers and was thrilled to hear such wonderful things about her kids. My wife is a teacher, so I know firsthand how much those kids can thrill/disappoint a teacher by the way they behave. I encouraged her to let the kids know once they got on the bus that there was at least one person in the park with them that thought they were MUCH cooler than all the rest of those groups!

So, when you see a group that is behaving well, and being courteous, and following the rules, let them know you appreciate it. These are the kids who will be running our country in a decade or so (scary, isn't it?).

I definitely don't think that you'll find as many loud obnoxious kids by the time you go. You could definitely tell that the majority of the kids that were there, were there with their schools because they were all wearing matching shirts. I think the other young kids that were there, were just at DL because school was out and it's something to do.

Just a question: did you ask them not to scream? That you were taping the fireworks to show to your four-year old when she got home? I can't believe even a heartless teen would continue after that. . . . but I could be wrong.

We had the same thing happen when we taped the Country Bear Jamboree. It was the year it was closing, and the last time we'd get to see it. So we really wanted it on tape. We got some teens down in the row in front of us, screaming, making fun of the show, the WHOLE time. Ruined my tape, because even though you can still hear the show, you can also hear them the whole time. Just as annoying having to relive it on film.

Thankfully it's on youtube I guess.

Here's what I don't understand:
Everyone is complaining (rightfully so) of teeangers being rude and disrespectul (and true, it's not all of them) but how come most of you DON'T say anything to them?
Several times I've had teens/tweens try to cut in line in front of me. I just put my arms across the handlebars or somehow block their way and they get the message really fast. I also have to confess that if they are polite about it and ask, sometimes I let them pass...
As far as the screaming... same things happen on TOT and I have reminded people RATHER LOUDLY that it might be the first time for some riders, that little comment took care of the screamer...
But it's not just kids, when my DD was 5, some lady SHOVED him off the Dumbo elephant he was about to ride, and I called the lady on it (rather strongly).
SHE went off on ME on how she'd NEVER do something like that (my son had quite the puzzled look on his face) and during the ride she kept going on and on to her husband (who looked like it wasn't the FIRST time she'd done this :lmao: ) as to how she'd NEVER ABUSE A KID... I actually felt SORRY for the poor man...
Then of course was the rather POOH SIZED gentleman who went right in front of us in the Mark Twain boat... he wouldn't budge but there was a better spot a few feet down.
Oh and how about the MAN who WOULD NOT sit down during a parade (he was in the FRONT row) and wouldn't listen to ANYONE telling him to sit down... until... he looked around... and he was the only one standing.... and the sheepishly.... he sat down....:lmao: :lmao:
We all need to emphasize to our kids (becausue I'm sure we've all TAUGHT them) that you need to be aware of your surroundings and to respect those around you.
As they say... it takes a village....

I feel for everyone who has experienced annoying tween/teens who scream their heads off for no reason. It really is a shame for little kids to experience because it ruins the magic of DL. I didn't got to DL for graduation when I graduated from middle school or high school, but I know a cousin who did and he did not enjoy it at all because of the people in the park. They were all teens trying to be cool around their friends and acting out to get attention. He said that it made the magic disappear. I wish they would send them somewhere else so that us DL addicts can enjoy ourselves and not waste money/time that had to be saved up. :confused3
