Teenagers/Adults Screaming on Rides

My 7 yo ds even commented later on about how rude the teens were behind us.

Best moment ever:

We went to see Wicked last time it came through San Francisco. Some morons who ought to have been sterilized decided it was a good idea to have the adults in their party up in the balcony and let the teen girls sit unsupervised in the orchestra.

At intermission (because he couldn't say anything before then) my then seven year old turned to me indignantly and said, "Mama! Don't those big girls know you are not supposed to TALK at the theatre?"

Not a peep for the second half.

Balcony seat: $80

Maybee we can get a petition going and have No Teens allowed Day once a month or something....lol Tweens just dont care about anyone else and go out of there way to be as obnoxicous as posible,

Wow. That's pretty prejudiced. Making sweeping statements like that about people based on age is no better than doing it based on color. I know a number of young people I'd much rather share the park with than many adults I've seen there.

We don't bother the screamers. We've learned to just put our fingers in our ears before the screaming starts on the HM. The rest, I use as a good opportunity for my child to see how to NOT act. I expect my child to be respectful to those around him, and not have the attitude that he can do whatever he pleases, even if it means ruining something for someone else. Good learning opportunity.

I have a pretty severe startle response. If someone screams in my ear I will quite literally jump. The bonus is that frequently I end up landing on the foot of the person who scared me. Karma.

Everyone has the right to be there, but no one has the right to go around ruining it for anyone else. The entitlement attitude people have these days is a real pet peeve of mine. It's a real shame that anyone would have to accept that kind of behavior as just the norm. Espeically if you are spending a few grand on vacation there, and not just a tank of gas on a day trip (as so many are so lucky to be able to do).

But yes, real shame that this is how people have to behave. Teenagers and adults alike. Shame people don't have better manners these days.

I have only been to HM and pirates in florida and I can't remember ONE TIME in all the MANY TIMES we've rode those rides that people screamed. Okay maybe just once a tiny short squawk type scream when the shots went off in pirates but NEVER in HM.
But our next cruise is our first trip to DL and i was reading this thread. I'm not really looking forward to riding the rides we most enjoy and listening to blood curdling screaming the entire time. OH great........

We found (by accident) this past Sunday, that riding HM first thing may reduce your chances of screamers. After taking advantage of Early Entry we were able to walk right onto HM with one other family into the stretching room.

The lights do go out and there is a rather loud scream in the sound track. I felt sorry for the the 7-8 year old daughter who was visibly scared even before that point. I'm not sure what she would have done if there were extra screamers.

Our kids last visited a Disney park in ''99 when they were 2 1/2 (dd) and 4 (ds). Neither kid remembers much about their visit. We also walked onto Pirates just after HM. She did a startled scream at the drop because it was unexpected, we didn't warn the kids. Anyway, that was fun for the kids and us - because we were able to walk on and experience the ride without advance warning. Would screaming have ruined the experience, nope. They were wide-eyed and excited to be on the rides and at DL. (Even my ds13 loved Dumbo!!!) Although, I was slightly deaf after the Matterhorn

apparently you overlooked the Laugh Out L part. I was making a joke...a bad one too boot cause noone seemed to get it. In my case the on cue well timed screaming dosnt bother me because I was an actor in many Haunted Houses at Halloween over a ten year period and we thrived and fueled our energy off of a good blood curdling scream...we always seem to know which ones to focus our attention on. hehehe
That particular day of my post .... the other posters were complaining about groups of teens rampaging through the park pushing women and children out of there way cutting in line making rude commits...thus the second half of my post. I had a major problem the day before in Louisville with a group of six teens harasing an old man walking slowly down "their " sidewalk and I yelled at them to stop while pumping my gas and they just pushed him to the ground ...I called the police and followed them in my car and had them arrested. More people should step up and do the same no matter how old or young the culprits are.
The young people you know and chose to be around you is your choice to be with them....those here having various problems (about out of control young people and adults alike)....have no choice about the situation.


However, I do have a solution for a Sellect Few of my fellow poster's here on this thread. Take the Time to Join a Dis Meet ( they are in the just for fun section)....people plan there vacations months in advance '... so join a Dis group make some Dis friends and plan on getting together in a group at the park and get fast passes to these particular "problem" rides with the group big enough to fill up a whole section/room/ boat etc etc and have a wonderful magical time....a little planning goes along way. It works...been there done that.

Umm hey everyone. I'm 15 and I go to Disneyland ALL the time! Mostly teens are only screaming in large groups, and sorry everyone, I also scream for no reason when in a large group. And some other reasons for this is when girls are with guys and guys are with girls, they tend to "show off" a little. I am not sure why they do this, but it always happens! Well I'm just here to say sorry for all us screaming teens!

I'm fairly certain I was annoying as a teen when with friends, I'm the outgoing type. But I am NOT RUDE. I know if I'd been asked I would've said "I'm so sorry!" (of course, if it was polite..if it was rude my temper would've probably taken over..hah! just kidding, but they might've gotten a rude look instead of an apology..I still would've been quiet)

However, I do also know that there are teens who ARE rude and who WOULD react badly. I'm a little nervous this time because I'm the type to say something..and if I got a rude teen I'd probably be snotty back. (Gotta get that part under control if I have kids this time, eh?)

BUT, experience at DL dictates (for me) that it's been ADULTS that have been worse! Last time I was there I asked some teens to quiet down a little cuz we couldn't hear, they did. I asked some adults the same thing on another ride and they glared and spoke louder.

I guess it's all about the person and how they were raised

I actually think it's more fun when people scream, but not in the obnoxious way a lot of you have been describing.

I like to ride stuff with groups of kids because I know they'll scream and it makes it way fun. Especially at Disneyland and Universal because I've ridden everything so many times that it's no big deal anymore. For example, when people scream on like Indiana Jones it's a bit more exciting somehow - I guess because if everyone is quiet it feels a bit more fake.

As for HM, that doll thing hanging from the ceiling in the stretching room IS pretty scary.... what is it anyway? Kinda reminds me of Chucky.

Here's a good way to tell why your statement is crossing the line:

Remove "young" and enter "gay" or "black" instead.

Okay, I wanted to add my screaming people story here..

Our trip last month we were on HM and when we got in the stretching room, we were one of the last people so we were near the "door" standing next to the CM. There was a couple next to us, they were about our age in their late teens/early twenties. And as soon as the thunder and lighting cracked and the screaming part started with the hanging skeleton, the guy just starting screaming VERY loud short screams. He had to have done it about 15 times, right in my DBF's ear (seriously). The guy's girlfriend/wife was laughing hysterically (she looked very embarassed though) and the CM who was next to us did not look happy at all. I thought it was so rude because it was completely unnecessary and it was so loud nobody could hear the narrator or enjoy the ride. He continued screaming through the hallway with the portraits. Everyone kept giving him dirty looks. I'm glad I wasn't the only one who thought he was being a jerk.
