For some reason people think it's illegal to drive without shoes (but it's probably a good idea). It's not against the law (& I do it occasionally), but some people think you'll get hauled off to jail.

BTW, Beauty, you can get that grin smilie by just typing :/teeth: (minus the "/") instead of having to the [/img] code for it. :)

It'd better not be! :o Not that I've done it (in the last hour ;) ). I was wearing chunky healed clogs and they slipped and were in the way, making it much more dangerous to drive than with just socks where I had a lot more control.

Yeah, if I'm driving for more than 20 minutes, I'll usually slip off my shoes & I always had to after work.

I meant driving in your bare feet though. I'll do that on occasion, but haven't lately, mainly because our apartment stairs are made of aggragate (sp?), so that tends to make me slip on my sandals for those late-night Jack N The Box runs. :teeth:

When I took driver's ed in Texas (in 1992), the book stated that it was against the law to drive without shoes. I actually had a friend who got a ticket for it in high school.

Kermit, perhaps it changed right after, but it's not illegal to drive barefoot in Texas.

I asked my friend that works for the Ft. Worth Police Dept.

And this is from ubanlegends.com, the site creator sent a letter to the DPS (& the other 49 states & DC) to find out if driving barefoot was illegal. This is the response from Texas...

Dear Mr. Heimbaugh:

This will acknowledge receipt of your recent letter concerning driving barefoot in Texas.

As your correspondence indicates, it is a common misconception among many citizens that such action is illegal. However, there is no law in Texas that forbids an individual to drive barefoot.

Sincerely,

Charles L. Graham, Major
Traffic Law Enforcement
