Teen Mom

I couldn't believe that Tyler's mom called Brandon and Teresa, that was way out of line.

However, I don't think it made much of a long term effect. If any of you watched the 16 and pregnant adoption special that was on a month or two ago, Brandon and Teresa were on there and showed a video of Carly that I *think* is more recent then Christmas. I don't know if it's an act for TV or not, but it almost seems as if Brandon and Teresa feel some kind of responsibility towards Catelynn and Tyler too, sort of like they adopted them along with Carly.

Good point - though notice they didn't bring Carly herself, as they have to the other tapings. I mean maybe they shrugged it off and they did the video because they thought C&T would like it or maybe they just didn't want to bring her for whatever reason... but I remember thinking they'd have brought her when they said there was a surprise for C&T and then they hadn't.

Has she been at all of them? I thought I remembered one where Carly wasn't there, they showed a video of her walking to Catelynn and Tyler, or were Brandon and Teresa not at that one too? Was that Ashley girl's daughter brought to the adoption special? Maybe they didn't want the babies there, who knows.

I'm still hoping Brandon and Teresa are the kind of people that they portray on TV and they wouldn't have the heart to close the adoption.

At this point, I think they've taken the open part of the adoption a bit too far. I mean, I think it is 100% great that Carly know her bio parents totally love her, and their extended family, but it just seems like they're carrying it further than that.

That's how it's coming off on the show.

We don't know the other side of the story though, maybe Brandon and Teresa want Carly to know that she wasn't given up because she wasn't loved enough. Maybe they're comfortable with the degree of openness we're seeing, or maybe it's MTV encouraging C & T and family to do things like go shopping for Christmas gifts. With the way this show is edited, it's hard to say what the situation really is like.

I'm completely clueless about adoption procedures... but would B&T be able to change their minds on an open adoption and close it even though that's what they agreed to? I'm sure there is some kind of paperwork involved. It just seems to me that they wouldn't be able to do that legally anymore than C&T would be able to change their minds about adopting out Carly? Again, totally clueless on that stuff though.

I honestly think that some of their expectations possibly come from the adoptive mothers group that C attends sometimes. I can't remember what show... maybe some other 16 and Pregnant moms or a True Life special of some sort, but I've seen several adoptions aired where the birth mother is actively involved in the life of the child. One episode sticks out in particular (not sure what show) where the same family that adopted a young girls first child was going to adopt her second child as well. She was talking about seeing the kids a few times a week and all. I wouldn't be surprised if some of their ideas come from other adoptions that happen like that.

Yes, they can close the adoption whenever they want. But you're right about C & T, they can't change their minds.

Personally I think that stinks. They agreed to an open adoption, those are the conditions under which C & T chose adoption for their child. Now, do I think that B & T should have to have the birth family calling them? No, I don't. I think any contact C & T have with them should go through the agency. Should they be required to accept tons of gifts? No, I don't think so, I think they should be able to decide whether or not they want Carly receiving gifts from the birth family. I just don't think they should be able to shut out C & T entirely from knowing how their biological child is doing, seeing pictures of her, things like that, not if they originally agreed they were okay with that. Now things like Carly being at C & T's graduation or down the road in their wedding.....that might be a little much, clearly B & T are not required to go that far, but I think it would really stink if they could just decide to suddenly cut off all contact.

are C&T's family the type of people who would expect something in return because of those gifts?

Am I the only one that actually thinks catelynn will move towards a closed adoption? She seems to be moving towards that soon. I'm sure its a long hard grieving process as a birthmom.

Caitlin and Tyler did a 'semi open' adoption, with the update photos and occasional calls and what's now been once-a-year meeting in a neutral location.

They don't have Brandon and Theresa's last name, they don't know where they live. I believe the number they have to contact them is an 800# set up for that purpose. Some people do 'open' adoptions that have more contact, it's totally dependent on what the parties in question want, they can set up however they're comfortable - and they can change it at will.

There's no paperwork or anything if B&T wanted to 'close' the adoption, there's no recourse for C&T if they did, no.

It's not really changing the adoption, the adoption is what it is, it was finalized soon after Carly was turned over, I believe - states vary as to the window available to change minds.

It's changing the contact they and Carly have with Caitlin and Tyler and that works just as it does for anyone. You can choose to cut off contact with anyone you wish, so can they. If they believed the situation was better for Carly to stop contact until she was old enough to decide on her own, that's their decision and they can choose it without having to do anything special.

I am sure B&T do want Carly to know that she was loved by her birthparents, and I think she absolutely should know that. But I still think they're going over the line a bit and I am sure B&T wouldn't mind if they toned it down.

This is what I thought too, but it's interesting that Tyler and Catelynn have a website and on it, Tyler writes that they have an "open adoption".
I think Brandon and Teresa walk on eggshells trying to live their own lives and appease Tyler and Catelynn since it's such a public adoption that can easily get ugly in the limelight. I too feel that they feel some sense of love and responsibility toward Tyler and Catelynn but probably never imagined how much they would want to be involved with Carly. I hope it stays a good situation for all, there is so much love for Carly, it would be a shame for everyone involved if it didn't.

This week's episode was nuts per usual.

Where does Farrah get all the money to fly everywher to find places to move? This time it was Florida. I get she wants to be away from her overbearing mom, but she can't care for Sophia on her own. She couldn't even keep a puppy.

Amber in jail, figures.

Now Maci wants to go to school and Bentley was driving her crazy, good thing she decided not to get pregnant again.

I'm so ashamed to be hooked to this show popcorn::

Ok I have an issue with a few things I saw this episode and they deal with the cars!

First Maci put Bently in the front seat when she was taking Kyle to the hospital. He was in a car seat but it was snowing and god forbid she got in a wreck the airbag would come out and hurt that child!

Farrah~When she and Sophia arrived in Florida they were taking a taxi to the hotel and Sophia was sitting in her lap. Now when she went with the realtor she had a car seat so why did she not use it in the taxi?

I am getting tired of this craziness. These are not teens trying to make it, these are teens getting paid money to be on tv and now they are leaving fine instead of having to work their butts off like a normal young person would have to do.

I really can't stand Maci. I couldn't believe that she got so stressed by her bf's surgery that she had to get hair extensions  I was a single mom too (for 2.5 years, then married sweet dh who adopted my ds), not a teen but only a few years older...and I just can't relate to her. I would never have spent that money on my hair. I worked, always, and if there was ever any 'extra' (ha, lol) it went for something to enrich ds' life. And meeting friends for coffee all the time??? Must be nice, I wouldn't know, especially then. I never thought a good day with a toddler involved him watching me drink coffee and whine:sad2:

Farrah, even though she's stuck up I actually kind of like her. She's got some spunk. She works hard, achieves her schooling, and Sophia is obviously a loved child. I don't blame her for wanting to move. I think if she stays near Debra, Debra will try to turn Sophia away from her as she gets older. Farrah needs to call the shots, for her and Sophia's sake. Clearly Debra does not respect boundaries.

I love Catelynn and wish only the best for her and Tyler. Carly is a doll and Brandon and Teresa seem wonderful.

Amber, ugh. Someday Leah will have some stories to tell about her as a mother  That child does not look happy, she looks very apprehensive.

Not trying to defend them, but I'm hoping Maci turned off the airbag, and with Farrah, I'm assuming she rented or borrowed a seat in FL (maybe the realtor had it) because I didn't see her with it with her luggage. I took my kids without seats in NYC cabs (only a few times, I couldn't haul the seat on the Metro North, not with holding onto kids and all, and there wasn't seatbelts IIRC ) so while I didn't think it was good, she may not have had access to a seat, or even seatbelts in the cab.

I do not believe that Maci, who is CONSTANTLY shown driving and talking or texting on a handheld phone, sometimes while sobbing and wailing, with Bentley in the backseat, oftentimes in inclement weather, turned off the airbag. She's a dolt.

This bugs the crap out of me. We've seen her take him to the aquarium or zoo or whatever for his birthday but we don't ever otherwise see her do anything enriching with him. No books, no classes, not even sitting and painting or playing with letters or anything.

We see him wandering around playing with stuff while she lays on the couch and whines, pushing trucks or whatever with her and Kyle and accompanying her to nail salons, hair salons, out for coffee with her friends, out for lunch with her friends, she treats him like a purse dog, just totes him wherever she's going and wherever she's going generally seems all about her.

I'm not suggesting kids shouldn't learn to go on errands and behave, as that's part of life, but we've seen that poor kid spend a LOT of time in hair and nail salons where you know she sits for hours and coffee bars where he's got nothing to do but play with whatever toy car he's clutching and it's none of it in the least bit necessary and seems continual.

I think you have to keep in mind is a show! Sometimes the have to make up scenes that might not have been filmed, something got in the way, etc. I think that might be the case with the scene with Farrah. They have money the show pays them a good amount. I am sure enough to get hair extensions, coffee and drop classes whenever they want.

Just when it looked like Farrah was getting her life in order it looks like she's back to her old self. She seriously thinks she can handle living that far away from her family and take total care of Sophia and go to school and (possibly) work? And STOP calling your father by his 1st name!!! Drives me bonkers!!!
She showed not the least bit of emotion when handing the dog over to her neighbor. I mean wouldn't you be sad just a little? And why was the dog always wearing diapers?? I've never seen such a thing!

I think it's interesting that Maci is now back in school and Ryan appears to have quit/got fired from his job and all the Haters can talk about is how she takes Bentely with her to get coffee and to the salon! Although I do think the salon thing was odd-but I can only imagine what would be said about her if she left her child with someone and went out by herself.
It also appeared that even though Ryan has no job and nothing to do, it was his parents that were on the floor playing trains with Bentely and generally interacting with him. I guess we should just be happy he was in the same room?

I honestly think Tyler is a very well-adjusted person for all he has been through. Seriously, all the stuff with his dad and the baby and he seems so well-rounded. He amazes me sometimes that he is only 18. Most of the teenage boys I know (or have known) would've checked out of that relationship years ago.
