Teen Clubs

We just got home from our trip and my son (11) LOVED Edge! He spent most of the cruise there - as soon as he finished his supper he was asking to go straight back so he didn't miss activities with his new friends. There was lots to do and he met some friends as well. My daughter (14) went a few times, but didn't stay long. She is more shy though and didn't make any new friends, she stuck with me most of the time and didn't bother with Vibe either.

They had lots of games and activities for the kids at Edge including "Marshmallow Olympics" and video game and ping pong tournaments. We found they didn't always stick to the schedule on the navigator though - it kind of depended on the kids in the Club, I think. There was always something for them to do though, and it helped my son made new friends so they found things to do together as well. He didn't even visit Oceaneers! He was so excited about Edge he said he didn't need to see it - he was happy just hanging out there (plus I think he didn't want to be around younger kids).

Your son will have a blast! Definitely go to the Open House and check it out with him. It was at the Open House where my son met his first friend and they started making plans to come back at certain times to hang out.
Aww thank you SO MUCh for checking back in!!! Sounds like you all had a great trip!!! Thanks for the info, I can't wait!!

One thing I would suggest is that if you are a member of a social media group for your cruise that a lot of times they set up separate groups for the teens to talk to each other before the cruise. That way they start to get to know some kids before the beginning of the cruise. It has really helped for my daughter get to know other kids for past cruises!

My DD (11) spent several cruises refusing to do more than a few hours in the kids’ club- basically only when she had to because we were headed to Palo. She has been on 2 cruises after aging into Edge and loved it. I think that was due largely to connecting with other kids prior to the cruises. DH and I joined social media cruise groups and were always able to help her make those connections. The girls would meet at Cabanas after boarding and you would think they were long lost besties- the screaming, the hugging, the cheering! There was a large group of 13 on one cruise and a smaller group of 4 on the next cruise-and they picked up additional girls at Edge both times. There were tears on last nights and lots of them still keep in touch. Next cruise is 9 days away and she‘s beyond excited! Edge activities were hit or miss, so I would say kids spent 1/2 time in the club and the other 1/2 elsewhere on the ship (pool, movie theater, movies on funnel vision, Midship Detective).
