Ted Nugent Question? Legend??

Funny that this "legend" will be performing at the itty bitty local no-name county fair this summer by us!! ;)

He's playing a small venue here too, but then again, so are REO Speedwagon and another band that were once big name rock star bands.

I have known his name for as long as I can remember, and I know "Cat Scratch Fever" and "Free-For-All", but that sums it up for my Ted Nugent knowledge. He could come to my door right now, and I would have no idea who he was. And I bet at least 90% of people under 40 have never heard of him or his songs.

I wouldn't call that a legend.

Yes...this:lmao: Loved Cat Scratch Fever but can't even think of another song

I saw Ted a couple of times in the 80s. It was entertaining for the filthy language and the stage antics, but mostly it was really, really loud. With his activities during more recent times, I think "loud" may be his legacy. You can debate how good he is, or whether his opinions are right or wrong, but you gotta admit, he is loud.:)

My left ear rang for 3 days after his concert. I have never heard anything so loud in my life.

I think I remember seeing him in concert with either one of the bands the "Damn Yankees" or "Bad Company" in the 90s.

To me he will always be a creeper that lives in the woods. And he looks like he stinks.

I met him a few years back. He came to hunt on my husbands grandpa & grandma's land. We came over to see the grandparents, I didn't know he was there hunting or who he was for that matter. I got out of the car, was heading in the house & there stood this tall man, & I had no clue who he was. He started conversation with me, & asked if i bow hunted? I said no, he said I can teach you! I was rushing him away to get into the house. Later I asked my husband who that weird guy was... he said Ted Nugent! I said oh okay?? He said he sang the song cat scratch fever.. I say ohhhh! okay, I had no clue. lol:rotfl2:

Oh I just spit out my water, lol.

Ted Nugent was the Motor City Madman, now he just looks like a mad man, without the motor city.

I did like his guitar playing and when he was in the D Yankees.

I liked a few of his songs in the late 70s & early 80s and owned the "Cat Scratch Fever" and "Scream Dream" albums. I still have all of my old concert ticket stubs and I have to say I saw him 4 times in concert! :faint: Not that I was even a huge fan but there were some songs I liked

Cat Scratch Fever
Wang Dang Sweet Pootang
Great White Buffalo
Wango Tango
Free For All

I had a friend who actually got Cat Scratch Fever from petting a stray cat that scratched her and she went blind for a few weeks, so that song really stuck with me.

Did his amp go to eleven?

Yep. Many Greats play small venues..pays the bills. Hey, State Fairs aren't bad..casinos have cut way back on entertainment. The music industry is tough, not many can fill large halls anymore. Ticket prices are sky high and the economy is bad.

Nugent's sold over 30 million records..his net worth is estimated between $20-24 million. Not too shabby...

Stranglehold was big too.

He is a complete wacko now. He was even pretty good looking in his younger days but still always a bit bizarre.

Did everyone know that he lives in Crawford Texas? That just seems odd.

Not that I can blame him for wanting out of the cold, but I do wonder if he chose George W's neighborhood for publicity reasons.

I think he's very popular with the hunting enthusiasts. :)

My DH and his buddies are all hunters (don't ask how much money gets spent on this obssess. . .errr, hobby, every year!) but they don't like Nugent; they all think he gives hunters and such a bad name!

Please, please, please don't lump him in with all hunters! :goodvibes

Nugent was a member of Damn Yankees, so if you saw them, you definitely saw Nugent :)

As far as legend, if you'r one who saves that term for acts like The Beatles, The Stones, and Led Zeppelin, no. Definitely not. But, it's a term that's bantered around a lot & Nugent was definitely a legitimate headline act and one of the best guitarists of the 70's. And in his 60's, he can still play songs like Great White Buffalo where Clapton apparently hasn't been able to do the "hard" version of Layla for a looooooooooong time.

RE: role model status. Nugent does not drink, smoke, or do drugs (can you imagine Nugent on drugs? :scared1:) and never has. So, any talk of role models would be on that note specifically. He likes to say something to the effect of, "They did drugs & they're all dead. I stayed clean, and I'm still Ted" :lmao:

OTOH, he was notorious for shenanigans with underaged groupies, and cheating on his wives, though probably no worse than many others. Vince Neil of Motley Crue once bragged that having their way with mother/daughter combos became so easy, they starting trying to find grandmother/mother/daughter combos instead. But, Ted did move his 17-year-old girlfriend in with him when he was MUCH older, and like most stuff Ted did & does, he was not discreet about it.

Certainly, Ted is notorious for his political stance. You do have to give credit where it's due. Other than Ted & Bono, I can't think of anyone else in the music industry as passionate OR knowledgable on their causes. They both put their all into it and actually know what they're talking about - agree with them or otherwise. And that's fairly unique among musicians. I think that what turns people off is his approach & the fact that his cause is not politically correct.

His insistance on baiting deer is one that doesn't sit well with a lot of hunters & honestly sitting over a pile of corn isn't how I do it (nor would it even be legal in my home state). OTOH, Ted sees no distinction between sitting over a pile of corn on the ground, or sitting over a pond wating for a deer to come to drink, or sitting over a grainfield waiting for them to feed. Many hunters & game departments DO make that distinction, but he does kind of have a point. As with any other stand Ted makes, he IS consistent in his stance and makes no apologies for it.

One thing about his hunting shows is that he is a huge proponent of taking does and inferior bucks which is an important part of conservation. Too many of these shows focus strictly on the trophy buck which does very little to control the population. Nugent focuses on harvesting meat, which he correctly identifies as organic meat. He's also a fan of organic veggies, and plants about 500 trees a year.

In short, I like Ted. I love much of his music, and I think the guy is a giant walking soundbite. I may not always agree with what he has to say or how he says it, but good for him for speaking his mind & for doing the research to actually know something about the subject.

AFAIK, he has zero connections to W. Nugent went looking for a new home over a HUGE blowup (lawsuit included) during the renovation of his Michigan home. The Texas ranch he purchased had previously been stocked with exotic game that can be hunted year-round, and Texas has WAY more liberal hunting regulations that suit Nugent's style (such as allowing baiting & the use of crossbows during archery season). Texas was on purpose, Crawford is a coincidence :)

Fort Knox has banned him from playing a show on their grounds this summer as a result of his comments towards Obama, though REO and Styx will still be allowed to.

Totally off the original topic, but rumor has it some Damn Yankees tunes may be part of that show - not the Ft. Knox show obviously, but elsewhere on the tour :lmao:

Last I checked eight kids with 5-6 different women. I wouldn't compare him to Bono though. The only thing I see Ted sound off about is gun rights, hunting and dissing democrats. Bono has worked with both sides of the aisle.
