Ok my hi speed internet is getting so slow it is like I am on dial up. I have noticed when my son is home it is terrible. He likes to download lots of programs. We are all on wireless net work.

When I get on Dis half the times the page does not load and then when I am iin VMK I can hardly move. And I got kicked back to the end of the line on VMK pass 3 times this morning I guess because it is so slow.

I have uninstalled Shockwave and and Flash and reinstalled both and cleared cookies and temporary internet files

My question is has my DS downloaded something to speed up his computer that makes the rest dead slow. Many times I click a page and by the time it gets to it says no page found.

If he is downloading games can this make out computers slow. He says no. But I told him he is not to download games because he got a notice of copy right violation. So I banned him from doing this. We pay for internet not him.

What can I do to speed it up. This is getting so frustrating.

Thanks

Have you checked for spyware or viruses. Both of them can cause the problem. You can download a program spybot and spyware blaster.

think this is what you are asking

Wireless Speed of connection 54.0Mbps
It is an Acer 3003 WLCI Moble AMD Smeronprocecessor 3000+
512 MB DDR
802.11b/g wireless lan

Anthing else. Not really sure what the specs would be :confused3

Yes, if your son likes to download programs off the internet they can come with plenty of nasties.

I recommend downloading Spybot Search & Destroy and also Adaware by Lavasoft. If you need any help finding these or updating them and running them, let me know.

Also, trendmicro.com is a good website for a free alternative virus scan.

Hope that helps!

There is one of your problems:

your ram is really low to run VMK you need at least another 254 ram and another 512 would be even better to bring up up to a gig.

Also sometimes when alot of people are all using the same WiFi connection it can slow down the systems for what I hear, although we do not have an issue with that....try resetting the router and/or modem.

Try this link:

I tried the link I am doing adware and spybot scan. Reseting modem is that unplugging it for how long to reset it. Thanks

If you unplug your router or modem for 30 seconds or so, that should do it.

Just to let you know incase others are reading this thread with same issues I also ran and error check on my hard drive. Found some errors and fixed them now running so much better. :)

Well again I am stuck the pages are loading great but now have black screen and now I can not VMK going to uninstall shock and flash and try again. The saga continues :(

How many things are you running? Like if you have aim and msn running and you have norton security going AND your listening to music then it might slow your connection down a lot. Also if you can try using an ethernet cable instead of wireless because games like VMK have a lot of data to send back and forth and the router might be getting interference from a magnet or cell phone near it.

You should have a small button on the back of the modem and the router you need to hold that button in for appox 1 minute then release it. Unplug both and let them sit for 5-10 minutes then plug in the modem first wait til all lights are on and steady(about 1-3 minutes) then wait an additional 1 minute and plug back in the router.

If you found errors on your hard drive restart your computer and run another error scan.

Definitely check your modem. Do you have any other wireless electronics in your home? I had a problem with the land line phone, wireless phone. Every time a call came in, my modem lost connection. Try changing channels on your electronic devices, if this could be your problem.
512MRam should be okay, although as Mal stated games will run smoother with a Gig.
The other suggestion should also be checked out. Norton is a major problem with most games. If you have another anti-virus program you may wish to disable Norton and use that instead. Adware/spyware/malware...all bad. Run sweeps often, if you download anything from the 'net.
Don't throw your pc out the window just yet. :) Frustrating, but there are some tech savvy Disers here always willing to offer suggestions.

Always, when shutting down modem and router, unplug both from the power and leave off for at least one minute.

You computer should be off when you do this as well, always reconnect the power to the modem first, wait for it to completely boot, then router, same thing, then start any computers up.

If you are running Norton antivirus, and a backup utility, and mail checker, and AIM checker etc they are all probably part of your problem.

Norton Antivirus (or Security Suite) automatically uses about 25% of your system resources. I recommend switching to something else, such as Avast! Antivirus (it is free) or TrendMicro (not free)

Also, you paorbably have a million things starting up when you start your computer. Go to Start>Run - type msconfig <enter> and then go to teh startup tab and disable anyting you do not use or launch only when needed(games, AOL, AIM, MSN, Yahoo Messenger, DVD programs etc)

also, when running Spybot or AdAware, disable your antivirus, as they can interfere with it.

yea that is the problem i had and so i got another 512 off of ebay for around 20$ you can also get it from other electronics shops like Raidio shack or Best Buy for around 50$ to well over 100$ there is no diff in quality so get it from ebay to save i few bucks also be sure it is a DDR bc an SDR will not fit in to the required slot...
it is really easy to install any computer savy person could do it with ease with out damaging the pc but if realy have no clue what you are doing then call a friend that does or get pro help

Hope this helps :)

Well I know that when you have someone downloading (or uploading) something to the internet on one computer and you're trying to load something on your computer it can be really slow when loading. My example is:

The other day i was in a host game on VMK on the wireless laptop, i was in the middle of my game all was going great then my boyfriend turns on the xbox 360 and signed into his live account.. when he was signing in he connected to the interenet... for the next few moments while he was connecting i had Horrible lag. I'm like whats going on. He told me it was because he signed on and it was connecting and downloading updates from the internet (which he felt bad for because i lost the game due to lag by 1 candle lol)

Another example is: he was on xbox live (again) and he had a server going and was playing with a group of people. Well I was on the other computer and I uploaded a few pics to my photobucket and I guess everyone on the server got a lot of lag because I was uploading... he didn't know it, and I didn't know it was effecting him. But when I heard him laugh and say he has no idea why it got so slow all of a sudden and asked if i was downloading anything I said no, but I am uploading. He said "oh thats why then"

So in my experience, long story short, if your son is downloading anything, or many things, it can be a factor in your interenet connection. It may not be the entire factor but it could play a major one. He is studying Computer Engineering so he informs me of this stuff when I unknowingly (and acidentily) do something like that. :)

Thanks all for all your help. Going to check out if DS is on his XBox360 connecting to the internt. That could be it.

Tp reset my modem and D-link wireless do I have to reset it the same time. Because they do not have buttons but resets you have to use a paper clip to do.

Also when I turned off my virus protection I was able to play a few games before I got the terrrible lag again to the point I could not play.

So I am off to find out if DS is playing Xbox live :)
