Hi! I've been lurking on the WISH threads for a while, and I am interested in joining one of the teams.
I am new to all of this. I bought a treadmill about 2 weeks ago, and am running/walking 4 times per week. Right now I am only up to a little over 2 miles at a 15 minute per mile pace, but improving with each session. I know I have a long way to go, but I am excited and motivated. I also would like to lose about 20lbs, but that is secondary, and I think it will come in time with my new training.
I am working up to the Couch to 5k plan. I also just bought Marathoning for Mortals.
I have signed up for the Disney 1/2 Marathon in January, and plan on running a few local 5k races.
I don't want to hold back any of the teams with my short mileage. But in time, I know I'll be able to add to the totals!
Hello! I was a member of SuperGoofs for a while last year before life got in the way and I went on an 8-month hiatus. I recently started running again and I'd love to rejoin my old team for the 2009 challenge...if they'll have me. The Air Force moved my family to Oklahoma City last summer, so because of the distance/expense there are no Disney races scheduled in my near future, although we are planning a vacation to the World in December of this yearI will be running (jogging
) the Rock n Roll San Antonio Half Marathon in November and have found that having a challenge team to hold you accountable makes it a little easier to stay on track with training.
I would love to join one of your teams. We just started walking/jogging about 2 weeks ago and did our first 5k yesterday! I think I now have the running bug. Planning on the Tot 13K in October. Would love to do the 1/2 in January but it is full.
Thanks, Jennifer
Jennifer,
Welcome to the teams! You just started and have already completed a 5K. Wonderful!
Any team would love to have you, but I think you'll enjoy being with Walt's Warriors if you're planning on doing the TOT 13K because I think Tracy, the co-captain, is doing the race. (I did it last year, and it was fabulous.) Just go over to the warriors and introduce yourself!
Also, there might be a way to get into the half, if you book a race package that includes your hotel. I'm not as savvy with those details, so be sure to ask about the possibility on your team thread and on the weekly thread. (On the weekly thread, I think Frank/Fire Dancer will be able to answer your question.)
Hi my name is Dave & I'm from Plymouth MA. I have run all 4 Goofy's and I'm coming back for the 5th !! I am having a harder time this year keeping my running going so a friend suggested I join a group. Nothing around here, but I thought about Wish. I knew about wish from my 7 Disney marathon's and have chatted to many members during the races. I found your thead. I was wondering if you could use another member. It would help me make it back on track!! I bring some "Disney" knowledge" to the table since I have been a DVC member since 1997. Please let me know what team I would be on and how I would log info. Thanks Dave
Hi!
I would love to join a team. I just ran my first 5k this weekend (Komen for the Cure Global Race in DC) and my SIL has talked me into running the Princess 1/2 marathon next year. This is my "recovery week", so I am spending lots of time browsing these forums, lol.
I am currently using the Galloway method, doing the conditioning level first, then moving on to the 1/2 marathon training program. So, I'm not running a lot of miles to start with, but I'll get there!
Thanks!
Ashley
Hi there, it looks like I'm going to stick with this running thing. I just did my first 5K, the Race for the Cure, in DC last weekend too. Didn't break any speed records but I ran the whole way! Now I need some help figuring out where to go from here. I would love to join a team.
I definitely didn't break any records, either, lol. There were so many walkers that started early, that it really made running hard. I ended up walking near the monument turn because I couldn't get around the walkers and I was getting so frustrated. I hope they have better communication next year about when the runners should start vs the walkers.

I told my husband I probably ran a 10K with all the zig zagging and in and out around the walkers. They weren't speed walkers either. Just out for a stroll, 4 wide holding hands. It was very frustrating. We figured since they were a half hour late with the start that the walkers just went ahead and started. You would think they could keep to one side. I would start to get into a good pace and then run up on a huge group. Very frustrating. My friend, who has done it several times, said she had never seen it that bad. She did say it definitely wasn't a race that you would do to get a good time though. Just too many people.
