Team Renfroe trip report with TONS of pics & reviews

Just popping in to let you know how much I'm enjoying your TR! :thumbsup2

Can't wait to hear about Y&Y! We have an ADR for our Sept. trip, but I've been tempted to change it many times - so many negative reviews. Hoping to get good news from you! :goodvibes

Thanks, SunnieRN! DD did perk up a little, but then really started to feel drained from the heat. She definitely never made it back to 100% on this day.

I'm glad it seems that we all get along so well! Of course things aren't always perfect, and DS & DD fight like cats and dogs....but all is well at Disney World!

I am sure they are like me and my brother were growing up! Eachothers worst enemies and best friends at the same time! We always got along well when we went places also!

 :cool1: :yay: Are you going to do a live report???????

Not this trip, it is just a short weekend getaway...we are going back for another weekend in August and probably wont do a live when then either but I do promise to take a ton of pics of everything we ate and more....post them as soon as I get back.

The next live one is in Oct, the 18th to the 26th! Cannot wait!

I cannot wait to hear about Y&Y! We are headed there in 10 days!

I hope you love it like we did! Pictures are on the way...

I wonder if the shrimp lomein is the same inside as out! I thoroughly menjoyed, only thing is the outside seating, I was there i9n Feb so not a problem ,but in the summer it would be HOT!!

Good point....the day we were there it was "OH MY GOD HOT!" Mid 90s with high humidity. It's hard to make anything taste good when you're out in the heat!

I'm meant to be revising for two exams I have on Thursday...instead I found myself reading the WHOLE of your trip report, in one go! I just couldn't 'put it down', so to say.

One of the best TR's I've read so far - great job!

Loved your DD's tiara and dress from CRT and her face painting - fantastic :thumbsup2 And your DS...wow! He can eat!

Keep it up - can't wait for the next lot! Though maybe its a good job there's no more to read at the moment...I can get some revision done!

:thumbsup2

Hey Kayleigh! First of all, I love your name! I was always a fan of that song "Kayleigh" by Marillion.

Thanks for the great compliments! That's hilarious that you "couldn't put it down!" :rotfl2: Maybe I'm working in the wrong profession!

Thanks for all the detail and pics you are putting in your TR. I am just chomping at the bit until I can start planning our vacay! I think Disney releases the 09 rates in August then I can start planning:cool1: ! Thanks for helping me pass the time with your great story! Keep up the good work!

Thanks mama2girls! We are already thinking about another trip next year...but we'll have to wait and see.

Just popping in to let you know how much I'm enjoying your TR! :thumbsup2

Hi Barb! We read lots of negative reviews for Yak & Yeti also...but I loved it. The food was great, our server was great, and the drinks and dessert were to die for! It seems to be hit-and-miss...perhaps it all depends on what you order. I'll post my pictures and let you be the judge!

i finally came out of lurking to tell u how awsome ur tr is!!!:woohoo:

Awww....thanks very much alicetrose12! Welcome to the DIS!

I am sure they are like me and my brother were growing up! Eachothers worst enemies and best friends at the same time! We always got along well when we went places also!

Yep, that sounds about right!!

I forgot to mention this thing that DW and I do with our kids on vacation to keep them from misbehaving: We call it "dollar warnings." Here is the deal: each child gets an envelope at the beginning of our vacation containing 20 $1 bills. ($20) Each time they get in trouble, DW and I issue a "dollar warning," meaning that if the behavior does not immediately stop, a dollar will be taken from them. Whatever amount is left in their envelopes on the last day of vacation, they can have to spend on souvenirs. This works like a charm! One year, about 3 years ago, DD lost all but just a few dollars of hers! This year, I am happy to report that DD did not lose a SINGLE dollar! DS only lost one, so they were VERY well behaved on this trip!

We arrived at Yak & Yeti at 12:20pm, which was exactly the time of our reservation. It took about 12-15 minutes to be seated, but we were just glad to be out of the heat and in the air-conditioning. The restaurant was beautifully decorated! I really enjoyed the atmosphere.

Our server was Megan and I thought she did a good job. Since the dining room is rather small, they were obviously trying to turn tables quickly. She was a little rushy, but we didn't want to spend all afternoon at lunch anyway.

DW & I decided to cool off with a cocktail. DW had the Yak Attack (left) and I had the Emperor Margarita (right.) Both drinks were outstanding! If it had been dinner, I probably would have ordered another one! :yay:

DSC00972.jpg

For appetizers, DS had the pork egg rolls. Although we eat at chinese restaurants regularly back home, this was the first time he had ever ordered egg rolls. He devoured them! I could have made a meal off of just the egg rolls!

DSC00966.jpg

DD had the potstickers. She didn't much like them, but DW loved them. I think she ate most of them for her!

DSC00967.jpg

I had the seared ahi tuna...which I LOVED!!! This is one of my absolute favorite dishes anyway, and it was served to perfection.

DSC00970.jpg

DW had the lettuce cups, which I would have ordered if not for the ahi tuna. The chicken meat that was used was ground, and she didn't particularly like the texture of the meat. She ended up eating most of DD's potstickers and I ended up eating most of the lettuce wraps. They were great - but about what you would expect from Chili's or something comparable. I definitely think I won the battle of the appetizers on this day.

DSC00971.jpg

For our entrees, DW & I ordered the Shaoxing Steak & Shrimp. This was absolutely delicious. The shrimp tasted fresh and crisp, the rice was cooked just right, and the steak was very tender.

DSC00976.jpg

DS had the Shrimp Lo Mein...another first for him. Again, he loved it! Only this time, he could not eat it all! Lo mein is filling...especially after he had eaten three big egg rolls by himself!

DSC00974.jpg

Here is DD's kids meal. She was starting to feel bad again, so I don't think she enjoyed it too much. It wasn't the food, it was just that she was tired and hot after being sick the day before.

DSC00975.jpg

For dessert, DS had the Chocolate Brownie Sundae. Look at this monstrosity!

DSC00977.jpg

DW & I had the Fried Wontons. OH MY GOD!! These were SO good. Not being a big dessert person, I absolutely ate every single bite of this dish even though I was stuffed. Have you ever gotten home and craved something you had eaten while on vacation? For me, this was it. If I EVER go back to Animal Kingdom, Dining Plan or not, I will eat at Yak & Yeti and order this dessert.

DSC00978.jpg

DW wasn't nearly as passionate about the fried wontons as was I, but she thought they were okay.

DSC00979.jpg

Overall, DS & I loved, loved, loved Yak & Yeti, but DW did not share our high ranking. I would give my experience a 9.5 out of 10. I think DW would go with about an 8 out of 10.

Alan,

First, let me congratulate you again on your TR. You give it just the right amount of suspense and, although it is not a "live" TR, we are all waiting (drooling?) for the next installment. Have you thought about writing a thriller? :-)

And every time I read one of your TR chapter's I can't avoid remembering the advice you got, about this being the " times of your life". I totally agree. I only have a daughter (5), who was born (at last!!) late in our marriage and a little late in my life (I'm 50). Nevertheless, every time I look at her I realize how truly blessed we are and feel a little sad that this stage will be over so quickly…

It was good to know that your daughter's illness was (relatively) short-lived. Also, her face makeup looked just stunning!! Beautiful!!

Keep up the good job, both with the TR and (vastly more important) with your family.

Regards,

Luis Rodriguez

Hi,
I've just taken an hour to read your trippie from start to finish, and I must say not a minute was wasted.
Firsty, let me say that I'm sorry your DD was poorly, we visited the world in april/may last year an our DD (then 4) has tonsilitus - it was an awful 36 hours! Life goes on even at "the world". Luckily I talked DH into going back to the world in October of last year too.
Your children are lovely and what fun you look like you had. The lady you met at the GF resort was right, it's the time of your life - they were my fave photos, by the way.
We've never been to any of the restaurants you visited but your TR report really has encouraged me to try resort restaurants (we've previously stuck to Park TS restaurants).
I'm trying to talk DH into another trip late next year but he would prefer to wait until at least 2010 so the girls (currently 5 and 2) are a little less dependent.
Thank you for sharing your family vacation with us :thumbsup2

Yak & Yeti looks wonderful, definately one for us to try ;) , DD's face painting looks fantastic, what amazes me is how fast the staff actually do them!, as you can see in my little picture my DD's had their's done at MGM as it was last year! and it took less than 5mins ;). On the subject of Dinosaur I too don't like this ride and neither did my youngest DD, I spent the whole ride leaning over her with my hands over her eye's, but that suited me fine :lmao: , I think we must meet up with your family and then your DW and DD can sit and wait with me and my youngest DD, whilst the adrenaline junkies have there bit of fun ::yes:: ::yes::

I've been kicking around the idea of getting a lunch ADT at Yak and Yeti for our upcoming trip. Your review is REALLY pushing me towards it. Those fried won tons look amazing!!

OMIGOD Y&Y looks sooo good. DH was wanting to order the steak and shrimp, cannot wait until he gets home so I can show him your pictures...he also wants the lettuce wraps and the wonton dessert! Thanks so much

Ohh, the seared tuna looks so yummy!! I love to eat tuna like that but my mother will sit there and literally gag at the table. This is a woman who loves escargot:confused3 . Sorry to hear your DD was not feeling up to par again. Hope this passed as your day went on.

Melissa

your pictures of the food at yak and yetti are great and making me very hungry:rotfl: we cant wait to eat here in July:banana:

Hello, my friend! Everytime I think about that moment when that lady said, "you know, this really is the time of your life," I get chills. Those of us who are lucky enough to be parents know just how blessed we've been. I think it's great that you're a later-in-life father! A good friend of ours is in his 60s and has children my kids age!

Thanks for the kind comments, as always. I wish you to best on your upcoming trip.

Thank you VERY much, Joanne. I'm glad you are enjoying my posts, and thank you so much for your kind words! I hope you and your family get to have a Disney experience sometime in the near future!

Hi Karen! It is amazing how they can do those facepaintings so quickly. After DD had hers done, she accidentally smudged a small space, and the lady re-did the spot for her for free! I thought that was nice.

Yeah, it sounds like us adrenaline junkies will have to leave you all to take care of the smaller attractions!!! :rotfl2:

I've been kicking around the idea of getting a lunch ADT at Yak and Yeti for our upcoming trip. Your review is REALLY pushing me towards it. Those fried won tons look amazing!!

I definitely thought they were amazing. I don't like things that are TOO sweet, and the fried wontons were right up my alley.

OMIGOD Y&Y looks sooo good. DH was wanting to order the steak and shrimp, cannot wait until he gets home so I can show him your pictures...he also wants the lettuce wraps and the wonton dessert! Thanks so much

Hey, Nicki. First of all, thanks for your compliments about my trip report. Also, tell DH he can't go wrong with lettuce cups, steak & shrimp, and the fried wontons. BE SURE to leave room for the fried wontons!

Ohh, the seared tuna looks so yummy!! I love to eat tuna like that but my mother will sit there and literally gag at the table. This is a woman who loves escargot:confused3 . Sorry to hear your DD was not feeling up to par again. Hope this passed as your day went on.

Melissa

Hi, Melissa. I LOVE this dish! I like sushi, but I like seared ahi tuna even better. If your escargot-loving mother gags at the site, tell her to close her eyes!!:rotfl2: :rotfl2: :rotfl2: This is good stuff!

your pictures of the food at yak and yetti are great and making me very hungry:rotfl: we cant wait to eat here in July:banana:

Come to think of it, all this talk of Y&Y is making ME hungry too!! :rotfl:

I'll be sad when your TR ends...y'all need to take another trip so you can keep us entertained with all your pictures.

Lisa

WOW! I have spent the past 2 days reading your report, I followed you over from mine. This TR is AWESOME! Your family is beautiful! You take AMAZING pictures and I love your restaurant reviews:thumbsup2 We LOVED Yak & Yeti too! Sorry to hear your DD wasn't feeling well. LOVE LOVE the "dollar warning" idea, might have to steal that one:rotfl2: Thanks for all the pics, of CSR, DH and I would like to stay there in Oct. possibly! Can't wait for more!popcorn::

Diane

Your DD looks so cute with he face paint on.

I don't really even like Chinese all that much, but those pictures make it look so good!
