Team Renfroe - Pre-Trip Report for May 15-22, 2009 **Final Chapter**

Hi Alan,

My family and I are planning our first WDW trip. Just wanted to say I read your whole trip report and found it very helpful, so thank you. We are looking at May 2009 and possibly CSR as our resort.

Looking forward to following along with your pre-trip report!

Nicole

Well Alan I pinned Aaron down and we came up with a tentative plan for our days and meals. We will be doing deluxe too and here are our choices:
breakfast- ohana, boma, crystal palace, chef mickey
lunch- mama melrose, teppan edo, whispering canyon cafe, san angel inn
dinner- narcoossees, yachtmans steakhouse, chefs de france, cape may buffet, la cellier
your kids are similar to josh's age... what do you think?
also is your family going to the pirate and princess party? i think if they have one one of the bights we are there we are going to buy tickets for it.

I whole heartedly agree with you Alan. And also weren't you including smaller meals than you would get on the deluxe plan where apps are included. I could be wrong I thought you had mentioned getting wings as your meal at Kona and etc. Also you have to remember with the dlxdining you get the resort mug and not with the basic next year. So if you guys will be using them that is another about $12 value per person.
Aaron and I (well I but Aaron goes with most everything I ask him to go with) have decided that deluxe is best for us.

Yes, I was definitely including smaller meals. In many cases, I was ordering only an appetizer, with DW & DS ordering either appetizer OR dessert, but not both. You are absolutely right about Kona - on the night I figured we would eat at Kona, I only included the wings for my entire meal. Between the four of us, I included two desserts so that we could order two Kona Kones (which the children LOVED.) Going with the Deluxe Plan, we would ALL get appetizer, dinner, and dessert...so there is MUCH more food for the money...and many more options.

Also, most of our lunches would be counter service, and with the Deluxe Plan, we could upgrade to table service lunches. Again, it is all about priorities, but Team Renfroe LOVES to dine...especially on vacation!

Oh yeah! I forgot to figure in the refillable mugs! Again, my conclusion is that the Deluxe Plan is WELL worth the extra few bucks.

Alan I love your detailed planning! Yes I agree Deluxe would be better for you !Even though I haven't booked so haven't yet started a PTR I have an idea of which restaurants I as a Solo want to try, some of course repeats :-
Kona based on Team Renfroe report
Le Chefs ( love the scallop & shrimp and the apple crepes)
Raglan Road want to try the Chowder besed on eeyoretail review
Le Cellier
Biergarten
Grand Floridian
O'Hanas
Crystal Palace ( my most do every trip)
Boma
Cape May
Now I have to cut something but these are the ones I' m thinking of also Teppon Edo is a growing possibilitie although the desserts don't really appeal!!I will stay at Pop as usual!!

Hi Englishrose! I'm glad you'll be trying Kona....I don't think you'll be disappointed. You've got a great lineup of restaurants! I hope we can do Les Chefs and 'Ohanas for sure. I would love to go to Biergarten, but I don't think our children would enjoy it at all. I am strongly considering adding Raglan Road. (My last name "Renfroe" is Irish, and my mother's maiden name is Simpson, which is also Irish!)

Cape May looks good, but we've got some others we want to try first. Besides, we have to give ourselves a reason to go back again, right? :rotfl2:

Oh Alan, speaking of Teppan Edo would you reccomend that for someone who does not like seafood? I know they had steak and the main reason you had an unpleasant meal was your table mate but the aps and entrees still seemed heavily seafood. Also sometimes at those places the taste of fish just kind of invades all the other food, did you notice that at all? Also what did you think about the desserts there? I can not remember what you guys ate but from the menu nothing jumps out at me dessert wise but Josh loves teppan style places so I am thinking about adding it for lunch instead of San Angel Inn.

Hmmm...that's a tough one. The reason we chose Teppan Edo to begin with is because we LOVE Japanese food. However, there really isn't a great dessert item on the menu, and it is basically the same thing you would get at any hibachi/teppan style grill. For those who do not enjoy seafood, you could order the steak and chicken. Overall, I would say that if you love your local Japanese restaurant...go for it...but if not, skip Teppan Edo and go with something else.

San Angel is still on my "maybe" list. The pictures posted on the DISboards look Soooooo good!

I agree that with the Deluxe Dining Plan you just go and eat all you want and not have to worry about money or how much things cost. I think it's a smart decision for Team Renfroe! :thumbsup2

Thanks, Lady Lallie! I think it is a smart choice for Team Renfroe also!

I concur! Excellent conclusion! You enjoyed it so much last time you have to do it again!! And selfishly I'm already thinking about the reviews you'll do! :thumbsup2

Hi Christine! I hear ya....I think it makes all the difference in the World to just have the option of going wherever you'd like on the Deluxe Plan...and think of all those pictures we can take! :rotfl2:

Good decision for you Alan, the difference is peanuts really. No worries about money etc.. when dining out.You all really enjoyed it last time-it would be rude not to  .And i cannot wait to see them steaks again :thumbsup2 .x.

You are SO right! I just wanted to make sure I was making the right decision, but after analysing the data, I think it is absolutely the best choice for our family. Steak pictures will be forthcoming!!

It's funny, we did something very similar to this earlier this year to figure meals and everything, it's a great idea! ;) Yep....I KNEW the Deluxe Dining would make all of you much happier, hey the more options the better! :thumbsup2 :cool1: I like all of your tentative choices so far, can't wait to see what you will end up with!

Hi Friend! Thanks for the comments. I am definitely on board with planning on purchasing the Deluxe Dining Plan. I've been thinking about the mere $80 difference over 7 days and it is really worth it. I'm most excited about having table service lunches instead of counter service! Woo hoo! Yak & Yeti, Les Chefs, and Liberty Tree...here we come!

I love the food algorithms. I'm excited as more food for you means more food pics for the rest of us! :cool1:

~Beka~

LOL!!! Algorithms! I haven't thought of it that way....but I LOVE it! I'm such a creative, right-brained person that I would have never thought of creating an algorithm....but I guess that is exactly what I've done! That's cool!

Hi Nicole! I am so glad you enjoyed our trip report! We were in your shoes last year....never been to Disney...but now we are HOOKED! We would love to just skip Thanksgiving and Christmas, and just get straight back to Disney!! :rotfl2: Seriously, I wish you the best in planning your May 2009 trip. We LOVED CSR! I hope this pre-trip can help you plan your first trip.

also is your family going to the pirate and princess party? i think if they have one one of the bights we are there we are going to buy tickets for it.

Nice choices, Michelle! That is a GREAT lineup! I think Josh will like it also. Our DS LOVED having the Whole Maine Lobster at Narcoossee's! He is STILL talking about that! We have not been to Les Chefs, so I don't know if they will like that or not. Our kids were not crazy about Le Cellier, but DW and I were!

I'm not sure about the Pirate and Princess party yet - We'll see.

I did the P&P party in Feb! Iloved it ! If you order ahead it is cheaper !!

That is definitely a possibility. I know DD would LOVE it. I am taking Cammie's advice and arranging for her hair to be braided at the Grand Floridian....that's a great deal at $55! and a great substitute for Bibbity Bobbity Boutique for a 9-year-old.

Just wanted to let everyone know that I applied for a Disney Visa card last week and we received it on Saturday! Woohoo!!! One step closer to our next trip!!

I've got to travel to Washington D.C. on business in October, and I am planning on taking DS with me, since he has never been. He is in the 6th grade, and I would really like for him to see DC in this election year. Anyway, I am going to use the new Disney Visa to pay for his ticket!

Alan

Hi Alan! Glad to hear you've decided on the Deluxe DDP - means we'll all have some great reviews and food porn to look forward to!

You NEED to get your family to Raglan Road - so good and so fun! It's become one of my faves at WDW. We make a trip to DTD once every trip and always eat at Fultons (another fave) - now I don't know how I'm going to choose between the two!:confused3

I'm with you regarding Biergarten. I know alot of people love that place but I just find it "eh". I'm not a picky eater at all and have never really, really enjoyed anything from the buffet there. The beer's very good though!:)

Congrats on the DisneyVisa card! What design did you pick out? I have the "Nemo" one right now - I get lots of compliments!:goodvibes

I am thinking of getting the Disney Visa as well. Aaron hates the idea because he hates the idea of me and yet another credit card. Maybe if I give one up he will agree. I think that rewards cards are great. I buy all my gas, groceries, everything on one rewards card I have then just pay it off at the end of the month with the money I would have normally spent on those things. Then I get points for BestBuy that spend like cash. The Disney one works the same right? That would be cool to have Disney dollars or something just for buying gas, etc.

Good Morning Team Renfroe! I haven't booked yet but am definately planning May 16th thru 24th at Pop. Also am doing a family trip in Sept. I know Disney twice in 1 year! On these boards everyone totally understands ,but my family just rolls their eyes and say "Wouldn't you like to go somewhere else" NOOOOOO I would not is my reply!!:rotfl2: Once I book I will start my first ever PTR. Hopefully I will learn how to post pix!My pals on TFW gave me my title due to my lack of computor skills !!:lmao:

Hi there,
Looking to your Disney trip report again this year. I loved your beach trip report though too. Next year we might go to Destin or Myrtle beach for a week in the summer. I've said it before on your last trippie, but your family is adorable and it looks like you all have so much fun together.
I wanted your opinion on and ADR for October. We booked 50's Prime Time which we liked alot last march but I thought about trying Tuttio Italia in it's place since we haven't been there yet. Which would you pick?? I know you gave 50's slightly higher score on your trip report. So what did you decide for your resort? We picked CBR for this year and plan to book the bounceback at CSR for next year since they are refurbing the rooms now. This will be our first moderate resort stay. For dleuxe we love Poly & WL if budget allows and for a value resort Pop gets our vote.

Hi Alan,

we are currently having a blast in Florida, everyone is sleeping so I thought i would catch up with the Dis we still have another 13 days of vacation :woohoo:

glad your Disney visa arrived, hope your DS enjoys your trip :thumbsup2

:thumbsup2 The Disney Visa has great benefits! Right before our vacation starts this year, I'm 'cashing in' to use some rewards during the trip! :woohoo: That's awesome you're going to DC and taking DS! (Better post pictures!)

I am super excited for you! You will be in WDW for my birthday though and that makes me jealous. That is the one reason I regret going in April not May because Aaron got to be there for his birthday last year. Oh well. Make sure to let us all know when you start your ptr. I started one a few days ago but no one seems interested in it so far. I did learn how to post pics so I can try to explain it to you if you get stuck. I got the same reaction from my friends and co-workers when I told them my plans for an April and October trip in '09. I told them yes there are lots of places that I want to go other than Disney but I also want to go to Disney and so I am.

Thanks, Cammie. I am excited that we'll be on the Deluxe Dining Plan again! I can guarantee there will be food porn upon my return!! :rotfl2: I have absolutely NO shame in taking pictures of our wonderful meals at Disney. :thumbsup2

Okay, you've convinced me....I'm not sure what we will give up, but I really really really want to go to Raglan Road. I love Irish pubs & restaurants, and I think all of Team Renfroe would enjoy Raglan Road.

Loving the new Disney Visa card! We got the basic one with Mickey on it...can't go wrong there! I've already used it...I booked a flight yesterday to Washington D.C. for a business dinner.

I am thinking of getting the Disney Visa as well. Aaron hates the idea because he hates the idea of me and yet another credit card. Maybe if I give one up he will agree. Hi Michelle! First of all, thanks very much for the info you sent me regarding AAA. You should definitely consider the Disney Visa. I don't like credit cards either, but if you pay them off at the end of the month anyway, you can really benefit from the points. With the Disney card you earn Disney Dollars, which can be used like a debit card at WDW or Disneyland.

Hi englishrose! So cool that you will be there at the same time as us! We'll definitely have to arrange a meeting. Heck, I don't blame you...if I could go to WDW twice a year I would certainly do so!

Let us know if you have trouble posting pictures and we'll walk you through it.

Hi there,

Hi kaysmommie! Destin and Myrtle Beach are both wonderful....I hope you get to go!

Hmm...that's a tough one.....50s Prime Time Cafe or Tutto Italia. My DW definitely would say Tutto Italia. I really like Tutto, but I thought it was pricey for the food. That being said, the antipasto platter was a good value and I could have made a meal of just that platter. 50s is fun and the food is comforting. SO, here is my advice: if you think you would enjoy the entertainment factor, and you like basic food like meatloaf, fried chicken, or burgers, go to 50s. IF you want a great meal, go to Tutto. If I had to make that choice right now, I would go with Tutto. 50s is awesome, but once you've done it, you've done it.

We are about 90% sure that we will be staying at the Pop. If our budget allows, we will either go back to CSR or try Port Orleans.

Hi Alan,

we are currently having a blast in Florida, everyone is sleeping so I thought i would catch up with the Dis we still have another 13 days of vacation :woohoo:

Hi Figment's Friend! We are excited about having the new Disney Visa. Can you 'cash in' by using your Disney Dollars towards the purchase of your package?

I used the Visa to pay for the plane tickets for DS and I. He's excited to be going along!

I am super excited for you! You will be in WDW for my birthday though and that makes me jealous. Oh, that's too bad! I think it would be cool to celebrate a birthday at WDW! Our wedding anniversary is the first week of June, so we are thinking about "celebrating" that event on our last full night at Disney at California Grill.

Michelle, you started a PTR? Gosh, I'm behind on my Dis!! I will definitely be jumping over to check it out and subscribing. woo hoo! :cool1:

Alan I booked my trip and have started a PTR !!

Awesome! Now I have two new PTRs to subscribe to!! If you haven't already, be sure to check out Cammie's PTR as well.

Hi Alan,

Yes you can use disney reward dollars to pay down your package. I used both Disney Gift Cards and my Disney Visa Rewards dollars before we went on our trip two weeks ago to pay off the package.

BTW, we really liked ASMu for the price. I think though that going forward I will choose deluxe again and if we're priced out of that at least a moderate. Overall it was a great trip and ASMu had really fun pool activities.

Hi Alan,

Just a tip to keep an eye out for. For the past two years Disney added hopper and more benefits for the price of a non-hopper park ticket. It was introduced in Feb I think. I am keeping my fingers crossed for next year. Also, can you post a link to the May thread you have subbed to? I would love to check it out.
We are booked for 5/16-5/23--All Star Music suite. We are a family of 5. You have me really thinking about the California Grill one night. Refresh my memory, were you there for the fireworks?

Really enjoying your pre trip counting dows with you:thumbsup2
