Team Rebel Alliance Introduction

Hey guys! got soooo much going on with the kids grandparents here, I have been doing lots of running but I cant post about it right now, (there bed is in the computor room and I'm sneaking in to say hi!!!) tomorrow I will give you all a better report but I was getting posting withdrawal!!! :scared1:

Steve - Its a pity moose and pepper live so far apart I think the would have been good friends!!! Give him a scratch behind the ears for me :)

Thats all I can do for now guys, speak soon

Kirsty

Glad to see that this thread is running smoothly with a lot of interaction. I have had trouble getting in as much running as I would like. My milage is about 1/2 of what I would like it to be. One of my initial goals was to be in 1/2 marathon shape at all times. right now, I am not in 5K shape. Not at least as quickly as I am capible of. Hopefully I can pick it up now that most days are outside running days.

Nice to see everyone doing well.

Hi everyone.. haven't checked in in a couple days! Well, Friday I did an hour long sculpt and step class at the gym which I really enjoyed... Saturday I went hiking/trail running... Sunday I went on a super long walk that involved busses and ferry's! Ha... and yesterday I did an hour of spinning and then 25 minutes on the elliptical. I've been getting the time in for sure!

Whats up everyone,
I did my abs, chest and back workout. I'm redoing the previous weeks workouts because I missed so many while I was at home. So next week will be my recovery week.

Scott - Don't feel bad. I haven't done any running and I really should be.

Kirsty - I think you're right. Moose and Pepper would get along great. I'll give him his scratch next time I see him.

Suzann - Nice job on the workouts. A walk that includes ferries and busses sounds crazy and awesome.

Bad news is i've been slipping on trying to kick the caffiene habit. I try to drink only one cup in the morning, but it inevitably turns into two or three. That is a little less than what I used to drink so I guess that counts as a little progress. Thats all I have for now.

Steve

Hey guys! Long time no chat!

Sorry I have been kinda MIA for a few days, like I said earlier my empliyers had ex inlaws staying at the house and to say it was an emotional rollercoaster was an understatement, I have been looking at the boards but have had not time to chat since, I was busy trying to stop the kid being treated like a rag doll and my employer from having a meltdown! Anyway thats is besides the point, I have had the chance to get in some runs while I have not been on here so I thought I would let you know how they went.

On Friday I had a chill, just took pepper to the dog park and that was about it, Satuday I got up early and did 3 miles before volunteering and then the kids pre birthday party (she turns three on saturday!:cool1:) then sunday I went for a 2 miler, it was supposed to be 3 but I had a full breakfast of pancakes, bacon and fruit just waiting for me and my head was so not in it, I did do my own little interval training thing, it wasnt very structured because like I say my head was not in it, but I would run for a while then when I got bored I would walk, then when I would get really bored I would sprint (OK not the best training but I was still out doing something!) Monday I had the day off (because of the ex inlaws!) and went for a 6 mile runaround the lake, I still am not going as well as I would like, I wanted to do 3 miles then walk one run one walk one but I ended up running one mile then walking 1/2 running 1/2 for the rest of the distance, I still got the miles in but it wasnt quite like I wanted! Yesterday I was so exahuasted from the emotional and physical endurance of the weekend I spent the day in my room reading a book, then took the kid to the pool after the ex inlaws left! Today it was gorgeous out, so I decided to get the jogging stroller out and run to the pool with the kid, its 2 miles out and 2 back, I felt ok. :thumbsup2

it seems to me like I have hit some kind of training wall, :scared1:no matter what I set out to do I dont have the motivation to make it, which is sooo not like me, I am hoping that my body is just adjusting to the change in pace and I will get my head back in it soon because I dont really know what my problem is.:rolleyes1

I keep having a little trouble breathing, my gran thinks I am getting excercise induced asthma (which runs really bad in my family) and my dad thinks I am a hypochondriac (getting sick is not really permited in my dads eyes) so to avoid a family despute I am ignoring the problem and hoping that as I get fitter so will my lung capacity:idea:! My joints also seem to be taking a battering but nothing some ice wont fix! (I do have glucosamine tablets but it say I need to take 6 a day and I cant remember to take one so I will just stick to ice!)

One last complaint before I let you all get back to your lives, this is more of an irritating problem than something that is hurting. :headache:So I think I am the opposite of most people I put on weight when I run, I know everyone keeps telling me it is muscle but it is silly, I never did run for that reason I like the challange of competing more than anything else,:confused3 but last summer when I took a break from everything I was doing, and ate whatever the hell I wanted I lost 30lbs and 4 dress sizes! now the stupid scales are creeping back up, now I know I am am nowhere near fat but it is very annoying that I excercise and gain weight grrr Ok that is my vent over :rotfl2:

Have a good day guys

kirsty :goodvibes

Hi Everyone, I can't seem to get here more than once a week, but I'm thinking of you all! I post on SparkPeople as well, try to really track my eating and exercise there and post on a few boards as well, so that's why I'm not here daily. I hope you'll forgive me...:worried:

I only ran for 35 minutes last week, my neck has been out of whack and so I've been fighting a headache:headache: but then Sunday I logged 15 miles running down at the beach! It was soooo beautiful! Tuesday I ran outside for 5.85 miles in the sweltering heat (we're having a heat wave) and today I did another 5.5+ on the elliptical. I have a 1/2 coming up, week from Sunday, so this weekend I start my taper... then a marathon 4 weeks after that!

Sounds like everyone else is hanging in there, albeit not without complications... sorry KL about the tough houseguests, and Steve - sorry about the golf being rained out. Suzann - how do you walk on a ferry? LOL

I'll be back next week, or sooner if I can!

Kirsty~ I wish I had your problem! I only lose weight when I run, so I don't really have any advice...

Running Diva~ Its ok that you're only around a little bit :) We still welcome you when you get the chance! And you walk on the ferry, take a ride and walk off.. a whole lot less cheaper than driving your car on!

Well, I'm off to my bowling tournament in Reno in the morning.. hopefully I can get some workouts in down there too! :goodvibes

Hey everyone,
I kind of skipped my workout yesterday. I ended up driving to Canton Ohio for the day (If you haven't guessed, I like to travel)and never got a chance to work in the exercise. I must be crazy because today I'm leaving for south carolina again. This time my sister, her boyfriend, and I are driving. 20 hours of total driving time is well worth the weather, seeing my family and my dog. Hopefully I can work a quick session in today before I leave. If not, then I'll do double workouts tomorrow.

Suzann - Good luck in Reno and on P90X when you start. That first week of soreness is something else.

Kirsty - Interval training is a pain, but it is a good way to throw in some muscle confusion. I wouldn't worry to much about the number on the scale. If youre putting up 6 mile runs, then muscle is going to build pretty fast

Running Diva - Nice job on job on the mileage and I wouldn't worry about only posting once a week. I probably spend enough time on the boards for both of us.

Hey team,
Just got done doing a shoulders and arms workout along with a 30 min run. I can already tell that I am getting in better shape. My knee held up pretty well during the run so hopefully this type of training won't aggravate my old football injury. I was supposed to do yoga today, but I felt like running instead. Hope everyone else's training is going well.

Steve

Hi all, believe it or not I'm here 2x this week! LOL Just figures, as soon as I say I can't I make myself try harder... Tomorrow starts my taper week, 8-10 miles and then only one short run left. I try to do nothing for the four days leading up to the race (surprising how easy that is!).

I just heard about a TREK Woman's duathlon at Disneyland in June and I'm debating on whether or not to sign up. It's an inaugural event (don't you just love those?) and really short distances - run 1.5, bike 10, run 2 miles - but I'm worried because 1)its two weeks after my marathon, 2)I haven't ridden a bike in over 10 years and 3)I do run/walk intervals and am afraid I'll look ridiculous walking during a 1.5 or 2 mile race! Am I being silly? Please tell me everyone there isn't going to be snickering as I walk by... I'm also afraid of coming in LAST :scared:

I'll let you know if I decide to do it...

Hey team,
I finally got to go golfing and it was awesome. I put in 30 min at the driving range and 4.5 hours playing 18 holes. tomorrow I am hoping to do a quick run and then start the 10 hour drive home. Tomorrow also means that I only have two weeks until my disney trip. Thats it for now.

Steve

hey guys! I hope everyone is well?

Nothing really to report, I had to have thurs of between going to school and picking up more family from the airport and working there was just no time :( Fri I was supposed to be running with my running club, but the Kid turned 3 yesterday so we were getting the house ready for the party and we lost track of time. Friday night I had one too many pre party beverages and dispite telling everyone I was going for a 6 mile run (at midnight!) they wouldnt let me go (who knows why!:confused3) I awoke saturday morning VERY sick:sick: and with a really sore hip:confused3. I am hoping that I was just drunkenly stupid and fell on it and cant remember because that would be a lot easier to mend than something I have done out running, so now I am waiting for it to improve so I can get out again :scared: But on the plus side the kid had the BEST 3rd birthday party, volunteering went well yesterday, these house guests are much better than the last ones :) and I just found out something good about school next year :woohoo: )

Steve - thanks for the vote of confidence on the weight thing, I am no longer going to weigh myself :) and have a good trip, glad you enjoyed your golf! :thumbsup2

Suzann - I know it seems bad to complain about loosing weigh without trying but when I am running I no longer have the motivation of loosing weight:goodvibes! Hope the bowling tournament goes well :thumbsup2

Running Diva - Dualthon sounds good, I have no advice not having ever done one but my new years resolution was to seize every oppertunity so I say go for it :thumbsup2

Happy training everyone

Kirsty :cheer2:

:stitch: 'Ohana Monday Mixer :stitch:

I've been thinking about how to create a hot topic for this week's mixer question. Turns out, the weather cooperated with me. :lmao:

Many areas of the country experienced above average temperatures this weekend, which made many of our weekend distances uncomfortable. (I was thinking especially of how the weather affected the racers at CMM, particularly our very special WISHers). So this week's mixer topic, which starts here on the 'Ohana thread:

What are your training/racing/recovery tips and strategies for hot-weather conditions?

Feel free to tell us how you alter your routines: when you go out, what gear you use or what you wear, how you hydrate and fuel differently, how to recognize danger signs, how you keep cool and/or recover from overheating, and when you decide to shorten/quit/take it inside.

As we all know, going out in the heat can be dangerous, so please help all of us by sharing your knowledge. :thumbsup2

Hey team,
Nothing to report today. I had the long drive back to Toledo and my back was pretty sore from golf. So I thought a rest day was probably a good idea.

Kirsty - I hope your hip heals quickly. I have also awoken up to mystery injuries that I swear never really happened (if you cant remember it, then it didn't happen right?). Just curious, did you swear off drinking forever saturday morning?

Hey guys!

Hip feeling a little better, it cracked a few times and that seems to have alieviated some of the pain. will see what it is like after work on whether it is another rest day for me :(

Steve - exactly I have no memory of it so it must not have happened! Yes I have in fact sworn of alcohol forever and its going well so far ;) I bet you are getting excited about your trip, the weather here is amazing right now about 90 and sunny with no humidity, perfect for Disney! (Although I dont mind any weather when I am near the mouse!)

Happy mondays everyone

Kirsty

Hey folks!
I ran yesterday and man it was hot. It was good though and we went to the school track so it was completely flat. I ran Friday with a friend who I am trying to encourage into the world of running. We did a walk/run and went 1.5or so miles. I hope she'll stick with it! Friday the kids and I went on a hike at a local state park too. Having nicer weather is a big motivator for me to get moving again!

Have a great week! I finally updated the spreadsheet for myself too to the best of my knowledge. I walk the dog the same route just about every day so that one is easy to recall! I had some other runs/workouts jotted down so I got those in. Haven't been too many but hoping that improves weekly now.

Allyson

Whats up team,
I just got back from a 30 minute run for 2.16 miles. I am slowly extending my running segments and I am definately noticing that my knee is hurting less and less. Tomorrow I start Phase 2 of my P90X workouts and hopefully I can get a bike ride in this week sometime.

Kirsty - I am so excited for disney it hurts. On the way back from South Carolina, my sister and I spent a good 3 hours just talking about the different things we want to do while we are there. And don't worry, I also have said the words, "I'm never drinking again" but it just never seems to last.

Allyson - I agree. Nice weather definately helps motivate me to go outside and do something, whether its golf, running, or whatever.

Ok I'm going to go stare at the calendar and try to make the days go faster. Talk to you guys later.

Steve

hey guys

my hip seems to be a lot better, I was at storytime with the kid and I was sitting crossed legged and she jumped on me, I heard a big crack and it has felt loads better ever since! Who needs doctors when there is a 3yr old around :lmao: Even so I gave myself one more day recovery just to be safe ;) It is getting pretty hot here so I might have to start going out before work in the morning :scared1: which means getting up before the sun does  but I am not very good at it :rotfl2: so I will set my alarm for tomorrow morn andf we will see how it goes. Hopefully I can manage it because it is still in the 80/90's when I finsh work, then my employer makes dinner, and well then thats about it no getting me off the couch then :3dglasses so I will give this a shot and lwt you know how I go on :rotfl2:

Steve - It will last this time I am sure of it :confused3:laughing::confused: I know what you mean, I kinda miss the suspense of going to Disney for a vacation.... not that I am complaining about living vertually next door and being able to go every weekend :woohoo: but just the planning what you will do , and eat and which order to see the fireworks in is all part of the fun right

Allyson - Wow it sounds like you are taking good advantage of this spring, good job I hope the nice weather continues to inspire you :)

Have a good night guys
Kirsty
