Team Rebel Alliance Introduction

Hi y'all! I just wanted to pop in and say, "hi"!
We got back late last night from a long weekend at the lake and my kidlets are on spring break this week......so, it'll be quick posts from me.
Scott....easing back in is a good idea.
Allyson...I hate when DH goes out of town. I just never sleep as well and having the kids all to yourself can be so exhausting. Take it easy. Oh, and Jackson is the cutest!! I'll have to post a pic of my dog, Blaze.
Suzann....I hope your thumb is feeling better.
Angela....we all understand crazy busy schedules, hope it eases up soon.

Take care all....I need to go post my activities, I've been busy lately. I ran in a 5 mile St. Pat's Run on Sat. and had the most fun ever. I ran with a girlfriend, her first race ever and I ran to keep her on pace and encourage her. I am so proud that she only took one 20 second walk break and otherwise ran the entire thing and finished in just barely over 55 minutes!:cheer2: :cheer2: :cheer2: She did awesome.

hey team,
I admit ive been slacking lately. Ive been doing what college kids do on spring break and St. Patty's day. Anyway, I found the training plan. There are two plans, one for "Fit Beginners" and one for "New Runners." Personally I plan on doing the new runner plan and then the fit beginner plan so ill have a very gradual 16 week program.

New Runner:
Week 1- monday (cross-training or rest), tuesday & thursday (5min walk, 15min run/walk, 5min walk = 25 min total), saterday (5min walk, 20min run/walk, 5min = 30 min total)
Week 2- same as week 1
Week 3- monday (cross-training or rest), tuesday & thursday (5min walk, 15min run/walk, 5min walk), saterday (5min walk, 25min run/walk, 5min walk).
Week 4- monday (cross-training or rest), tuesday & thursday (5min walk, 20min run/walk, 5min walk), saterday (5min walk, 30min run/walk, 5min walk)
Week 5- monday (cross-training or rest), tuesday & thursday (5min walk, 20min run/walk, 5min walk), saterday (5min walk, 35min run/walk, 5min walk).
Week 6- monday (cross-training or rest), tuesday & thursday (5min walk, 25min run/walk, 5min walk), saterday (5min walk, 40 min run/walk, 5min walk).
Week 7- monday (cross-training, 15min run, or rest), tuesday & thursday (5min walk, 25 min run/walk, 5min walk), saterday (5min walk, 45min run/walk, 5min walk).
Week 8- monday (cross-training, 15min run, or rest), tuesday and thursday (5min walk, 30min run/walk, 5min walk), saterday (5min walk, 50min run/walk, 5min walk).

After week three, add 15 to 60 seconds to the running segments each week. Use walk breaks indefinately or phase them out.

I'm going to start by running 1 min and walking 1 min during the run/walk portion. I'll post the Fit Beginner plan later because I'm tired of typing right now.

Good luck team.

Tracey~ Way to go with helping the friend run their first race!!! Was it rewarding to get someone else into the running community?

Steve~ Sounds like a great start to running!!!! And don't worry about the slacking as long as you are aware of it :goodvibes

For me, I did an intense 20 minute stair climb workout yesterday. Last one till my climb on Sunday. I'm feeling a bit sick today though, woke with a sore throat. Not good :sad2:

Week 1 - Monday (Cross-training), Tuesday, Thursday & Saturday (30min run).
Week 2 - Monday (Cross-training), Tuesday & Thursday (30min run), Saturday (35min run)
Week 3 - Monday (Cross-training), Tuesday & Thursday (30min run), Saturday (40min run, if using walk breaks try to time or frequency)
Week 4 - Monday (Cross-training), Tuesday & Thursday (30min run), Saturday (45min run)
Week 5 - Monday (Cross-training), Tuesday (30 to 35 min run), Thursday (30 to 35 min run with 5 20-second strides. use walk breaks after strides for 15 to 30 seconds if needed), Saturday (50 min run)
Week 6 - Monday (Cross-training), Tuesday (30 min run), Thursday (30 to 40 min run with 4 30-second strides), Saturday (55 min run).
Week 7 - Monday (Cross-training), Tuesday (30 min run), Thursday (30 to 40 min run with 5 30-second strides), Saturday (60 min run).
Week 8 - Monday (Cross-training), Tuesday (30 min run), Thursday (30 to 45 min with 6 30-second strides), Saturday (65 min run).

Use walk breaks if needed but try to reduce frequency or duration after week 3. Strides are sprints at about 80% of full effort (I had to look this up). Basically run as fast as you can while still maintaining good form. If theres any questions, ill try my best to answer them.

We are really quiet around here! I'm hoping everyone is enjoying some pretty weather.
Steve...Oh, Spring Break, say no more!:goodvibes Look like you found a great running plan for you. I love when it's all laid out like that.
Suzann....It was great helping her get into running. I was so proud of her and realized that I'm in pretty good shape to run for 5 miles and be able to talk to her through the whole thing. I think that now she "gets" why I run. She's hooked.;)
I'm been consistently staying on plan and adding extra push-ups. I'll post my mileage later.
Have a great day all!

Hope everyone is doing well! I actually had a day that I didn't work out... Wednesday. I went to the walk in clinic about my thumb.. really bad sprain. Ugh! So of course that meant I was at the climbing gym last night with a thumb splint. Ha! Two hours there (mostly belaying) so that was nice. How is everyone else's training coming along?

:stitch:'Ohana Monday Mixer :stitch:

Please join us on the 'Ohana team thread for the Monday Mixer. The Mixer starts here.

There are many reasons why we race. Sometimes it's a way to challenge ourselves. Sometimes it's a strategy to keep ourselves motivated. Sometimes it's a reason to reunite with old friends and meet new ones. And sometimes, just sometimes, it's about the goodies. :teeth:

This week's question is about those goodies:

What is your favorite medal/t-shirt/race-bag goody, and WHY?

So come on over to 'Ohana. Share with us your favorite pictures and stories. Brag about the bling. If you haven't done a medal-awarding event, tell us about a shirt. If you love a particular expo, we want to know why. And if you're new to races, visit anyway. You can get some ideas for future races and "ooh" and "ahhh" over the pretty, shiny things.

On a more serious note: Two of our 'Ohana cousins, Maria and Richard, could use some extra hugs, well wishes, and PD this week. If you've got the time, please let them know you're thinking of them.

Hey guys....it's been seriously quiet around here. We must all be outside enjoying the gorgeous weather. Has the weather been nice where you are? My last week was pretty light on workout with the kids home, but I'm proud to say that my DH walked 3x with me.:cheer2::banana: Have a great day, all!

Its been a bit chilly where I am, but its supposed to be nice today. I actually planned on riding my bike on my indoor trainer while I watched nascar yesterday. However, I went to increase the resistence on the bike and when I turned the knob, the bolt it was connected to sheared in half. I'm pretty sure there's a lifetime warranty so I don't think it will cost money besides shipping. I had no clue I was so incredibly strong. I can just tear metal parts in half without even trying. Anyway, I'm starting my running program today and P90X tomorrow. I'll probably go for a nice long walk today after my exam so I can decompress.

Oh, I left my dog, Moose, with my parents after spring break so I don't have the dog walks anymore. I'll have to excercise for my own benefit I guess.

Hi everyone!

Tracey~ Great job with the hubby and walking with you!!! The weather where I live has been a bit rainy with more rain in the forecast. Fun!

Steve~ Ha! You don't even know you're own strength! You're going to have to tell me how you like the P90X workouts.. I've been thinking about doing those!

As for me, I had my stair climb yesterday... some good news and some bad news. The good news first... I finished in 14 minutes and 33 seconds! More than a minute off my time from last year!!! The bad news... I didn't know I had a little infection in my lungs (I had not been feeling great the week before, but felt great yesterday before the climb). About 4 hours after the climb I started feeling like crap. Coughing still (At stair climbs, everyone coughs at the top) sore throat, lungs hurt... well, it kept me up most of the night.. decided to go into the walk-in clinic this morning... guess what I have? Acute Bronchitis. GRRRR. So I'm at home today, feeling like pooh :guilty:

Whats up team,
I am actually posting during my stats class becuase I am just that bored.

This morning I did my first P90X workout and it was intense. It was only 58 minutes but I think ill round it to an even hour. I'm also doing the first run in my program tonight after class. So when all is said and done, I should have 1 hr 25 mins and like 2 miles to post.

Also, who does everyone have picked for their final four? I didn't fill out a bracket this year, but I wish I did. Just trying to spark some conversation.

Steve~ Where did you pick up the P90X program?

I'm really rooting for Gonzaga to get into the finals! I'm sad that Washington is out though :sad2:

My dad bought the program off of ebay or amazon and I just burned a copy of his discs. Ill ask him where he bought it and post. I'm pretty sure he paid $75 instead of the 120 when you buy it from beachbody.

I am so sore today. I didn't go running like I wanted because it was a little chilly and I could barely move anyway. I looked at the times for the other workouts and they all are about an hour except for the yoga workout. Yoga is an hour and a half. There is also a 15 minute ab workout that you do three times a week. It looks like a great workout if you can commit to it. I'll keep you posted as the program continues. Today I am supposed to do Plyometrics.

Rebels,

I'm sending you a few recruits from the Team Roster thread. (Susie will update the master roster soon, I'm sure). Please welcome the following members to your team:

Running Diva - Tammy
surfermickey - Brandie
lil mermaid - Laurel
december14disney - Katie
TMGirl - Tracy

Welcome one and all! :welcome:

I've told them they can add their March (or earlier) totals to the team, if they have them, as they've been waiting for placement.

On a personal note, I hope to get back over here and check up on some of my buds more fully. :flower3:

Hi all....it's crazy busy here.
Thanks, Deb, for sending new recruits our way.
:welcome: to everybody new! Post away and get our thread moving;). I finally realized today that I need to sit down in the morning and write a list of things to do. I'm hoping that will hold me accountable. I've been staying true to my exercise, but my house is suffering:scared:. So, I have 10 things on my list today....
make banana bread (the bananas are turning brown), take kids to school, run 6 miles, 2 loads of laundry (start to finish), clean bathroom while giving 3 year old a bath, clean 1 more bathroom, work school fundraiser, pick up DS#1 from school, allergist appointment, grocery store, library. Wish me luck!

Steve and Suzann...what's the P90X....I must've missed that?

Hi all! I’m Katie. My fiancé and I signed up for the 2010 half! I have never been a runner and even though I am pretty active can barely run a mile. This is probably the hardest thing I have put myself up to but I am committed! I subscribed to Runners World and am following their “getting started” program right now. After that I’ll start the 5K challenge. I am signing up for a local 5K run/walk May 16th. Just to get race experience. My training right now is:
Monday: Run
Tuesday: Weights/Yoga
Wed: Run
Thursday: Weights/Yoga
Fri: Cycle or Run depending on how I feel
Sat: Distance Run
Sun: Rest.

I feel better doing this but it’s hard! The hardest thing I have had to learn is when you have a day like this morning where NOTHING feels right and you can barely even walk on the treadmill you just have to deal with it and try it again the next day! :thumbsup2

So nice to meet everyone! I can't wait to run with and support you all! :lovestruc

With me being sick, I've fallen off the wagon! But that's ok... just saving my energy for later! Ha!

P90X is a video series that focuses on building muscle. I hear great things about it, but its expensive  Oh, and you need all the equipment at home too.

Its hard to juggle everything!!!! Making a list of stuff to get done everyday is a super tip!!! Sometimes I forget I even started a load of laundry, then it sits in the washer for a while... not good!

Welcome Katie!!!! You've started down the road to running! And all of us have those off days, but on those days I focus on the time on the treadmill, not the millage!!! PM me your email address and I'll send you the link to the spreadsheet to keep track of your miles and minutes :goodvibes

Hi all, I'm Brandie one of the newbies. I have been running for awhile, just finished the Princess at the beginning of the month. I have been on a break for a week or two and have started running again. I have recently begun running with a group here in town, and they are getting me in better shape than I ever thought I would be. I have also been on a weight loss program, I have managed to lose 25lbs since Jan. I have also started working at the local running store, and that is helping me to keep in shape as well.

Other than running, I love the beach and any thing that goes with it. As some of the WISHers know. I have a 5 year old daughter and hubby that take up some time as well. I am currently working on my Dr's in physical therapy so I go to school for the rest of my time.

I am currently signed up for Goofy in 2010, and Liz convinced me to go to Chicago for the RNR, and Tracy has decided that I should do the Space Coast 1/2 in Nov. I do most of the local 5K and such and am going to try my had at a spring tri in April.

Nice to meet everyone!

Welcome Brandie and Katie!!!

Sorry about not posting more. No excuses.

As far as milage for the month, it has been my worst since I started recording the data. I may finish the month just over 30 miles. The 1/2 killed me and I was sick for two weeks after that. Combine that with three other pain in the *** life events and boy has it been tough to get out there. Anyway, I will be posting my miles and minutes in a few days.

Hope everyone is doing well. We are comming into a good time of year finally here in the north. The treadmill was killing me after a while. Now there are no excuses.

Hi Brandie and Katie and :welcome: we're so happy to have you on our team.
Suzann...hope you're feeling better soon:)
Scott....I can't wait for spring to fully be here.....it's been nice for a few days and now they're predicting snow for tonight:confused3. I'd much rather run/walk outside.
I finished everything on my list yesterday plus I dusted my bedroom and family room:dance3:! It's a great feeling.
