Team Rebel Alliance Introduction

I'm almost positive more training would have helped. I'm sure my knee will always hurt a little over a long distance but I've gotten used to it. Hopefully I'm starting early enough to take very gradual increases to avoid over training. I actually plan on doing biking until the weather gets nicer. So that combined with the walks should give me a good, low-impact start.

Yes please add Steve to your roster. We are bringing the Rebels up to the same #s as the other teams as quickly as we can.

Welcome Steve, thanks for joining us. This is already a super group.

Visiting Panda:hippie:

:welcome: Steve! What breed of dog is Moose? We have a "crazy, but we love him" Border Collie, Blaze. Now, one would think with 6 of us in this house, that he would get a walk everyday, but he doesn't. I try to take him with me as often as I can.....it's not enough. His favorite pass time seems to be "herding" my children:lmao: . I'm going to use you and Allyson as my encouragement to walk him more often.
Suzann...Maybe I should try some hill sprints to get over my dislike of hills.;)

I was sitting on the couch last night watching The Biggest Loser trying to forget that I hadn't worked out yet. The guilt set in and I headed down to the TM to watch BL and run. So, my big 0 for yesterday is now 42 min and 4 miles. Y'all are so good for me because I was feeling bad about posting a 0.....well I was also feeling bad about watching people exercise while I sat on the couch.:) Take care guys and have a great day.

Moose is a german shorthaired pointer and I know exactly what you mean when you say "crazy, but I love him." Moose's favorite thing to do is try to find as many things to chew on that are not his toys and he is pretty good at it. When I walk him, I'll listen to a podcast like Inside the Magic, Get Lost, or something like that. That makes the morning walk not so much of a chore.

I'll start posting my walks soon. I just have to figure out how many miles it is. Monday is when I should start posting some decent numbers though.

Steve~ Send me your email address and I'll send you the link to the spreadsheet :goodvibes Oh, and you can go to www.mapmyrun.com to figure out milage!

Tracey~ WAY TO GO on the miles!! I didn't like how BL left you hanging at the end though! Ugh, wait a week to find out the results? Un fair!!!

I spent and hour and a half last night shoveling dirt. Filling up the trench that we dug for the leaking pipe. It was the only decent night we should have all week, so I need to get some work in on it.

WELCOME STEVE I will add you to the roster on post #1 of this thread.

I have been a bum for the last few days. Snow and work are my excuses but that ends tomorrow.

Ok everyone.. I did a super hard 'crossfit' workout yesterday on my lunch hour, then I went bowling last night. Ugh, I'm feeling it today!!!

Suzann, you are amazing! You are my hero!

I walked the dog today. That is it. It's been a busy day. Had work to do this morning then into the kid's school to paint (I volunteer a lot there, I love to paint so I do a lot of murals and things like that). I am hoping to perhaps do a little Pilates workout later.

Good news is it is supposed to be WARM this weekend here so maybe this snow will melt away and spring will come and it will be fun to run outside again! Cross your fingers!

Allyson

Hi guys....
I took a 2 mile walk yesterday with the stroller and today was a 4 miler on the TM with an hour session of Girls on the Run. I coach this program at our local elementary school for girls in 3-5 grade. It's an awesome national program. If you're interested in looking it up you can find it on the web. It works on building self esteem and character development and incorporates running. I :lovestruc it!
Tomorrow we leave for the lake, so I'll be MIA for a few days. Keep up the workouts...y'all are doing a great job.

Ha! Thanks Allyson! I'm crossing my fingers for warm weather this weekend for you!!!

Tracey~ Looked up "girls on the run" program... looks very cool! Great job volunteering for that!!!

Yesterday I got two hours in at the climbing gym (wow, my arms are SUPER tired from Wednesday's workout and then the climbing gym) And no Scott, I didn't wear my weight vest there :lmao:

I finally got out and ran a slow and steady 2.2 miles this morning. It was my first since the dreadful half. It looks like some other people are going to have to carry my weight a bit this month. Although there is time to pull it together.

Mental Health Day

We all know that our mental-health days are just as important as our workouts, recovery days, and proper fueling. So, Monday's question for the 'Ohana mixer, which starts here on the team thread, is....

If you had an unexpected free day--no work or other obligations--and $20 to spend just on you, what would you do?

So please share those small indulgences that are essential to your mental well-being. Hopefully, we'll get new ideas and find kindred souls.

There are three little rules. Just because.

  1. You have to spend at least part of the $20 on you. No giving it away, no saving it for a rainy day, and no spending the $20 entirely on your beloved partner, cute kidlets, or BFF. You can spend time with these folks, of course, and some of the money. But the focus is on YOU and what you want to do.
  2. You can choose to work out, if you wish, or your mental health day can coincide with a recovery day.
  3. What you do on your mental health day has to reflect your everyday, local life. No "I just happened to be in Paris..." :rotfl2: You can imagine, however, that you have perfect weather.

As usual, full stories that are related to your mental-health day are welcome. Not to mention the odd digression! And you're always welcome to bring drinks, goodies, and profound thoughts on the meaning of life.

Hey team! I had a great weekend! Went hiking for 4 hours (!!!) on Saturday, then yesterday I went bowling for a couple hours. Very busy and productive weekend :goodvibes

How was everyone else's weekends???

Hey rebels,
Took a couple days off to drive down to my parents for break, but I walked my dog and my parents dogs today (I think walking two dogs at the same should count as double. . . j/k). One of these days I'll talk myself into taking a bike ride. Anyway, I plan on running a 10k sometime between now and the Donald so I won't have to be in the last corral. I also would like to do a few 5ks because they are fun. Good luck team and may the force be with you.

Steve, glad to see you joined right in!!! I'm sending ya'll another WISHer wanting encouragement and support. She's going to train for the half-marathon next year. Please welcome disney_mommy to your ever expanding group! :teeth:

Hello, fellow teammates. My name is Andrea and I have signed up for the half in January. I have never done a marathon before and am very nervous. I have a lot of weight to lose before then and a lot of training to do so that I can run the marathon. I am looking forward to being a member of this team and cheering each other on!

Suzann, I will send you my email address so I can start adding to our totals. Also, can someone please explain the idea of the spreadsheet? Are we trying to beat other teams or just see what our personal bests can be?

Also, where can I find a clippie for our team? I want to show my allegiance!

Hi ya Rebels!
It was a beautiful weekend at the lake. We took a couple of walks and brought home a stray cat. She is the sweetest little thing, but one my kidlets has allergies and our sweet crazy dog keeps getting swatted by the cat. I did a few laps around our small group of houses....which is about the size of a track....so I walked along the black-top, down 32 steps, ran/walked along the lake, then up 32 steps and repeat. I made 11 laps in 30 min and DS was supposed to check it with his Garmin, but he forgot. I'm guessing it's about 2.5 miles.
:welcome: Andrea! This past Jan. was my first 1/2 and I did it in Disney! It was an amazing experience. You can do this!
Hi Suzann, Scott, and Steve....sounds like everyone was out and moving this weekend.
Everybody else....
Have a great day!

Howdy Rebels!!

We are having a Dog Show (by suggestion of Jship!) tomorrow at Hakuna Matata! Post your photos of your favorite dog or dogs! If you don't have a photo post a favorite story, happy, scary, Lassie-like or what ever!! Can't wait to meet your pups!!!

See ya tomorrow!
Connie

Scott~ Way to go for getting some miles in after that half! Its so hard to pick it up again!!!!

Steve~ Those dog walks surely add up! And I agree... 5k's are fun and not too long :thumbsup2

Welcome Andrea!!!! So glad you're on our team! Have you looked into the couch 2 5k book? A lot of people recommend it for getting them started! Have you looked into other smaller races in your area? You're going to rock next January!!!

Tracey~ Way to get moving on the weekend!!!

As for me, I did two hours again at the climbing gym last night. Got beat up a little though.. bruised my knee and scrapped my pinky finger and wrist!

Welcome to the team Andrea! I am training for the same half marathon as you. I recommend finding some 5ks to run/walk so you can get the feel of a race compared to training runs. Races go so much faster. I also hear that everyone likes the couch to 5k plan. I am going to try an 8 week beginner plan that I have in a magazine as soon as I find it. I can post it when it shows up. I remember it starting out very easy and gradually works up to a 65 minute run or walk. After the 8 weeks, I plan on slowly adding time until I get to a 2 hour run/walk for my long run. I prefer to train based on time rather than mileage because some days I'm not at my best and a set mileage just isn't going to happen.

I'll post today's activity a little later. I just bought a new garmin and I'm pretty excited to put it to use.

Good luck team
