Team 'Ohana--No One Left Behind: The Continuing Adventures

Richard: :cool1::cool1::cool1:on your PR, that is awesome!!! You should always be happy to post those, you deserve to be proud. You have come a long way and are an inspiration. Thanks too for the comments on my video, I hope I make the Moms panel, but even if I don't it was nice to remind myself how far I hae come too.

Rose: I might be up for Boma, not sure of our travel plans that weekend just yet. I know I'm running but that's about all I know.

John: That is quite a transfer, good luck. Hopefully you can come in Jan.

The Beaches and Cream meet is a must do

I'm up for it too, assuming I actually do make it to the races. I'm being transferred to Doha, Qatar, in November, and I'm not sure yet what my new work schedule will be. I assume I can take vacation in January, but you never know.

Oh my, how did I miss this? Wow - that's quite a move. Are you looking forward to it?

I hope that you're able to make it. I'm looking forward to meeting you in person!

I am very excited about it. My wife and I love to travel and really enjoyed our last expat assignment, so we're hoping this one is equally exciting. It'll make me sad if I have to miss marathon weekend, though, and I hope I'm able to get there to hang out witha nd/or Gallowstop with all of you. :grouphug:

Hello Cousins!

How is everyone doing with their training?

Sadly, I will probably not be running the marathon this year. I just got back from the doctor. I have plantar fasciitis in both feet as well as some heel pain caused by trauma (most likely, running :sad1:). I am so bummed out right now.

We'll still be at WDW that weekend, though. I can't pass up a kid-free weekend in my favorite place! My husband Rob will probably still run the marathon and maybe I'll see if I can volunteer at a water stop or something. I'm just disappointed because we didn't go last year and I was really looking forward to my 3rd marathon.

I simply *must* stop going to Disney; it just throws me off schedule for talking with you all. :lmao: But a meet in January can't come early enough for me!

Jackie: Congrats on rocking the audit! Amazing what bonds runners make with one another - not that you didn't deserve the high score! And a big woo hoo for doing your 26.2 mile run!

Jen B: I'm so delighted that you've been having these great races and PRs, esp. with cracking that 10mm wall. You've worked very hard for all that success, and you deserve it! I'm so glad you all got a chance to do Herhey; I was bummed that we didn't but am slowly trying to accept that the fall semester (my preferred running schedule) doesn't seem to be in the cards for anything other than uber-local races.

Jeanne: You simply must tell me about Hershey. I have fantasies about staying about the Lodge, with or without the race!

Richard: No, you must not be embarrassed about PRs. Never. Reading about them keeps me motivated! And like Jen, you've earned every second/minute shaved off your previous times.

Rose: Princess 1/2? It's time to make those plans already. I really don't think we can make that event now that it's in its semi-new, permanent place on the calendar. But you and Mike (and Corinna) are a ton of fun, & I highly recommend such a good time!

John: Oh my goodness, what a transfer! It's really cool you're excited about it, perfect attitude, but I will not be happy if it interferes with your coming in January, what with Gallowstopping and DATW plans.

Julie: Oh no! That's such sad news about the marathon. Are you in a lot of pain - I hope not! I mean, I'm delighted that you'll be there in Jan. (and couples time is always great), but I know that cancelling race plans always leaves me in a bit of a funk. But how cool that you're thinking of volunteering at a water stop!

AFM: My recent WDW trip, though not Wine & Dine oriented, did involve lots of wining & dining. Food & Wine is good, although I'm not as enamored of it as many other folks. I'm more of a Halloween gal myself - and our MNSSHP experienced some of that heavy not-quite-tropical rain a couple of weeks ago. But DOOD & I had a good weekend getaway anyway.

We came back to some not-to-great news. First, our state lost the check we sent out for taxes. We have records, but now we're trying to sort things out. Worse, my FIL is in the hospital for something - they don't know what - having to do with his prostate. Surgery tomorrow, in hopes they can stop the bleeding. Unfortunately, he's on meds to thin his blood for his heart condition. PD sent his way would be appreciated; he was away from home when all this happened - one of those "any doctors on the plane" moments so there is extra stress involved.

In happier notes, my LR are going well. I had a good run this last Saturday that surprised even me! :cool1: Now if I could just get serious about strength training.

Debra - Isn't it a shame that going to Disney gets in the way of anything? ;)

Julie - I am sorry to hear about your pain and injuries, not to mention that you'll be missing the marathon. :( Hopefully, still being able to go to WDW will help ease the pain of missing out.

Jen - I'm sorry for asking it it's old news by now, but any word on the Mom's Panel? I imagine all their choices are great people at this point and that has to be tough on them.

Rose - Boma sounds wonderful for dinner. I won't be anywhere near there at the time of the Princess Half, but it still sounds really good!

AFM - I have a little racing news. First off I put together a really good effort last weekend for a fun local event in its first year called the Oktoberfest Triathlon. I had a solid effort all the way through the race and finished 9th in my age group and 22nd overall (it was the overall placement that really surprised me. This was just the third triathlon where I have finished in the top half of my age group, and only the first time I have been in the top 10% of all finishers (or even anywhere close to the top 10%). Plus they had a great post-race party!!
Second, this is not exactly a secret, I just hadn't made it widely known yet, though a few of you who follow me on Twitter might have picked it up. I said previously that I wasn't going to do it--and I meant it--especially in light of all the otherwise free time it eats up. However, when it came down to the announcement that there were less than 70 spots left, I found myself suddenly "having" to do it again, and so I registered. The race in question here is Ironman Texas 2012. Here's to another effort and a new IM PR in my future!

I'm running short on my lunch time so I am off for now, see you all back here later.

Good for you! Now you've got something to train for once Rocky is over. :lmao:

Richard: Fantastic job on your tri :cool1::cool1: You are reaping the rewards of all of your efforts. I know you will set an ironman PR. Thanks for asking about the Moms panel... I'm still waiting :rolleyes1 the results for round 3 are not in yet although I am checking my email like a compulsive idiot :surfweb:

Deb: I hope your FIL is doing ok, I've been sending lots of good thoughts your way

We just got back from a nice weekend getaway to Disney. We had a blast at NSSHP, DD wanted to be an ewok, so I dressed as Yoda and my DH was a Jedi and a good time was had by all. We got some really good candy too- lots of chocolate. It made me wonder if they change the candy they give out based upon the temperatures: chocolate on cooler evenings, more hard candy on hot days :confused3 We prefer the chocolate, so we were happy.

I'm planning a crazy weekend of painting some yet to be determined mural in my office waiting room and trying to squeeze in a 20 miler all while being on call, should be interesting...

Just got my "thanks but no thanks" letter from the moms panel. :sad1:I have to admit I'm a bit more bummed than I thought I would be. We'll see how I feel about the whole thing in another year if I put myself through this again.

I guess now I just set my sites fully on training for Philly and put the stress of the application behind me. Disney isn't supposed to be stressful anyway...

I'm sorry Jen! I thought your video was great!:goodvibes You're right, Disney is not supposed to be stressful.

John--I am so far behind on replies, but just wanted to tell you good luck with the move! Very exciting.:goodvibes

Richard--congrats on the pr.:goodvibes

Julie--I'm sorry about the foot issues. I am having some foot problems too, right now and it stinks!

Debra--I hope your FIL is doing well. I was not that enamored with f&w either. It's next to impossible to eat anything if you have a food allergy. I'm really kind of disappointed that Disney can't print something listing food allergies for f&w. I don't expect them to make special food, just make it easier to figure out if something is safe to eat.

I'm sure I missed something, but I hope everyone is doing well.
I am fighting another injury. This has been the year of injuries for me. I had xrays on my foot, and nothing is broken, but I have a fat pad injury, nasty pf, and leftover pain in my ankle from a strain/sprain in May. All in the same foot. I have been ignoring it for a long time, but it finally got to the point where it was so uncomfortable I couldn't wear regular shoes. so I started physical therapy last week. No running for 6-8 weeks, but she thinks I will still be able to do the Princess.:goodvibes

I hope everyone is having a good November!:goodvibes

Jen - I am so sorry to hear that you were not selected for the next round. Clearly Disney is missing the boat with a great mom and you will always be on my Mom's Panel.
I know your personal journey has had some similarities to mine and I hope you're are truly able to grasp just how much progress you have made for yourself during your running and weight loss period of the recent years. I know it has been hard for me to realize that about myself, and I know that I still do not yet see myself as generously as others do, but you should take to heart that your journey truly is inspiring to others out there, including me.

Richard: Thanks for the kind words, I nearly cried reading your post (in a good way). I think it is so easy to forget how far we have come.

The real good in the application was making me look at myself and realize just how different I am now and how much better I am for all of my efforts. I think part of the reason I wanted the panel was to give back to others some of the amazing warmth and support I have found here and in WISH in general. I have so much to be thankful for that making the panel does not really matter. You all inspire me everyday and if I can give some encouragement and inspiration back then all is good. :grouphug:

I got in a nice 7.5mi run at a good pace today and am feeling atrong and ready for Philia. Butch will be running it with me as my own personal pacer, so it should be fun.

Hello, cousins!

Lots of things going on here in the non-running world. As you know, my FIL had some more health issues. No answers yet, with his different health problems and meds creating problems, and the specialists not-quite-working-together. Anyway, we've switched up some holiday travel for Thanksgiving. We haven't done a family Thanksgiving in a decade, so :rolleyes1

And my big news has been the birth of my fourth niece in three years - and that brings the total to .... four. :cool1: I don't know what that means for travel yet, as we have two newborns in the past six months. But how cool is that? I can only imagine how Jeanne feels!

Speaking of cool, it's so awesome that Jackie and John had their wonderful runs at MCM! And that Richard continues to rock his IM races, planning well into 2012 (not to mention today)!

And who didn't love the finish to today's NYC? Nice!

Jen: Lots of things. You got chocolate at MNSSHP? We got a rock. Nawww, actually we got a lot of skittles. And lemonheads. I prefer chocolate. And runDisney is missing a great opportunity with you. I hope you know that.

As you know, my long-term plan for Disney is what I plan to do tonight (and every night): Try to take over the World. We should all plot on how.

I need a personal pacer! DOOD doesn't even wave at me when we pass on the street. (Literally, he's one of those runners. :lmao:) You're going to do great at Phila!

And in case I haven't said so, your journey as a runner always inspires me. I aspire to be more dedicated to the sport because you - and so many of my cousins - have made me feel like part of your journeys!

Rose: I'm so sorry to hear about another injury. How very frustrating! I'm glad your PT is on board with your recovery and your Princess plans, though!

Other news for me: Hmm, trying to shift plans for WDW to take into account work schedule, some of these family demands, etc. Pulled a back muscle doing ???? last weekend, so didn't run until today. 8 miles, all meh. I dislike skipping the short runs.

DOOD and I are in the last throes of editing a book collection (a memorial for a colleague of his who passed). He's doing the bulk of the work, naturally, but I get to say I helped with proofreading and indexing. Which is just as boring as it sounds.

Debra - Congratulations on the big baby news!:cool1: The best part of being an aunt again continues to be not having to do the parenting while still getting to have fun with the kiddos when you want to.

Jen - You're welcome. I had a discussion on that very subject at work today. While looking at some photos from last October a coworker looked at me and asked me when I got skinny. I don't think I am really that far yet, but even the last year has had progress for me. I think we are the last to really be able to realize that for ourselves, and we probably don't give ourselves the credit we deserve.

AFM - Thanks, Debra, for referencing the FB posting of my half iron triathlon race this past Sunday. I bested last year's time by 46 minutes and enjoying my ability to swim, bike and run hard for 6-ish hours (finished in 6:21:22). Cramps got to me pretty bad at the end, but I still managed to tough out the last 2.1 miles. Next up for this distance will be an attempt to go under 6 hours sometime next year, something I would have once laughed at ever having a chance to do. Thanks for indulging my writing about another PR! If you're curious and/or want to see a few photos, feel free to head over to my blog post on the race.

Hi guys! It's been a bit quiet here recently, so I thought I'd write and see how you're all doing. I'm in the midst of driving two of our dogs, and a bunch of our stuff, from Houston to Florida. They're enjoying the ride in the U-Haul about as much as I am. It'll be nice to get there tomorrow and have a few days to relax before heading back home to the chaos of packing and moving to Doha. Throw in some training runs for my marathon in Dec, and I'll be plenty busy over the holiday weekend. :)

Hope everyone is doing well!

John: Sounds like you have been busy! Good luck getting stuff together for the move, that is such a huge task. We will miss you in Jan.

Deb: Congrats on the baby news, always a good event. I hope your FIL is feeling better. Keep the Muppet info coming on FB, I love it :thumbsup2

Butch and I did the Philia Full today. He was really sweet and stayed with me as my pacer to help me reach my goal (and keep himself uninjured going into Goofy). :hug:The weather was perfect, cool at the start and dry but slightly overcast so it never got too hot. This race is set up with both a half and a full. At the half point those runners peel off and the full heads out the other direction along the river/Kelly Drive. I have run the half twice before so know that part of the course pretty well. The really awesome thing today was that my time at the halfway point was 6 min faster than my PR on the course set last year. :)I felt really good and strong and headed out for the second half. The race goes along a pretty section of park and loops through a section of Philia called Manyunk. The residents were out in full force offering donuts, brownies, oranges, and free beer. One guy had a huge box lid full of jellybeans. popcorn::I actually passed on eating the stuff cause I wasn't sure my stomach was up for it, but Butch really enjoyed the beer. I felt good until about mile 24 when I started having serious leg cramp issues. The water stops after 21 ran out of cups so I was not getting my usual hydration and I think that may have played into it. I pushed through and did the best I could with my husband as personal cheerleader. Our good friend brought her kids and my daughter out to cheer and we saw them at mile 25.7. It gave me the boost I needed to finish and was able to pull out a 9:30 pace for the last half mile. I finished in 4:42 which was a HUGE PR for me. :woohoo: My previous best was the full with Goofy last year at 5:17

John - I hope you had a good drive over to FL.

Jen - Awesome PR race you had out there!! Great job!

AFM - I have a nice quiet weekend planned with family coming over and some training to do to keep me from overeating (too much). I may decide to do a local 5K race to try to grab one more PR for the year, or I might just sleep in that day. :)

Happy Thanksgiving to everyone! I hope you all have a great (and hopefully long) weekend!!!
