Team 'Ohana--No One Left Behind: The Continuing Adventures

Congrats, Jen! Great PR!

Julie - No coyotes, but I saw a giant salamander on yesterday's run. It was nearly the size of an iguana. It was right in the middle of the path and it raised it's tail at a 90 degree angle when I got close. I've never seen anything like it.

Cousins, I've made a total rookie mistake. I lost track of months and miles with my running shoes and they are completely shot. And of course, the Wine & Dine is in less than 2 weeks. So last night I ordered 4 pairs from Zappos and I'm crossing my fingers one of them works and I get it broken in. Otherwise, I have my back-up pair that are at least broken in, but they were a new style for me and never really won me over on the longer distances.

I can't remember - anyone from Ohana doing Wine & Dine?

We will be there for Wine and Dine and I think Rose is planning on coming too. I'm getting excited. Work has been particularly :scared1: and I need a nice get-away weekend.

I love hearing about all of the wildlife everyone is seeing. Nothing here except for deer and turkeys...

Jen--congrats on that great race!

We will be at w&d. I'm hoping to run--no itbs issues, but I am having some foot issues. So frustrating. I think my body just isn't fixing things quickly--maybe leftover gluten issues. Who knows. I have to keep telling myself--no irregular heartbeat, no getting sick after runs, no itbs--what's a little foot pain?:thumbsup2

Yuck on work. Work has been the same for me! I cannot wait for a break. In addition to my own crazy work stress, Josh has been out of town for work each of the last 4 weeks - he basically comes home on weekends to get his laundry done! Sounds like we all need a vacation! I'm getting really excited now too - I signed us up for the Oct 2 MNSSHP (our first, if you can believe it) and it's close enough to do online check-in.

My ITB is still hanging around - no treatment has noticeably helped yet. I'm getting a lot faster at the walking of my run/walk. ;) I'm glad to hear lots of things are going better running-wise for you - hopefully the foot pain isn't serious.

I will not be wearing any WISH attire this race (outfit in progress), but hopefully I'll see you lovely ladies (and DHs)! We'll be at the Expo Friday afternoon and also at the Sat AM Kids Race. Hopefully I'll at least see you before we head to corrals at the half.

No Wine and Dine for me this time. For our "family" trip this year all 10 of us will be sailing on the Dream over Thanksgiving break. Haha, it seemed like a great idea until all the cabins had to be paid for last month! :scared1: Guess we just have to consider it one of those "priceless" experiences......:thumbsup2 Actually I'm thrilled all four couples will be able to join us. Not an easy feat for everyone to be able to get the time off from work. The down side is that John and I will have absolutely nobody home for Christmas. First time in 31 years and it's going to seem very strange.
As for upcoming races, I have the Hershey HM on 10/16 and the Donald and ChipNDale in January. It will be so good to get back to WDW for marathon weekend and get a chance to reconnect with my cousins.

Okay, fall is in the air. I need to reconnect with my cousins. And Facecook oddly keeps me more separated from you than together. I'm coming home to the DIS!

So I'll just going to jump back in here - the longer I stayed away, the weirder it felt to come back. Odd, I know, but that's me. Consider this the ice breaker.

CONGRATULATIONS, Jen!

And big congrats to Richard, Corinna, Jackie, and other folks that I know have upcoming races.

I wish I had a lot of running updates for you all, but I don't. I did 8-ish this weekend. Both my iPod and my Garmin died on the run. DOOD's Garmin died today. Turns out our power strip where we charge running gadgets died, and we didn't realize it. Anyway, I completed my run without my distractions. And that's impressive for me. :rotfl2:

Other than that - we've bagged all our race plans for the fall, but still *hope* to come to marathon weekend. Long stories, mostly work related on DOOD's part. I'm not free to say much beyond that.

Meanwhile, for those who don't know, lots of trips to Disney for me. We're not making it to Wine & Dine, which really makes me sad. DOOD has a last-minute work-related thing during that weekend, and I decided (we decided?) to wait a week so we could go together.

We're hoping that 2012 will be a race year, then, after things settle down. It's been over a year since we've done any distance race that wasn't Disney. Just short local ones. And both of us are cranky about it.

In good news - can I just brag about my brother? He and his team just finished the Cumberland - D.C. 200 mile race. :woohoo:

Hey everyone! I had a great race this weekend with my Olympic distance triathlon and set a new PR by just over 8 minutes with a 2:58:12 finish, which means I also met my main goal of a sub-3 hour finish. It was also my best finish in my age group in any tri. My complete and rather long blog post has a full report. Next up for me is the Ten for Texas 10 miler in 2 weeks (well more like 10 days).

Debra - Welcome home! It's good to have you back and I do hope you will be able to come to marathon weekend. Awesome race by your brother, brag away!

Jeanne - That is awesome that all four couples will be joining you at the same time. Those types of family gatherings can be very hard to put together.

Nicole - Most modern shoes require limited break-in time so I think you'll be fine with those new shoes. I did my tri run in shoes with less than 20 miles on them and had no problems at all.

Jen - Awesome job on your race, those splits looked about perfect.

Take care, everyone, especially you Wine and Diner's!

Debra: welcome back! You were sorely missed. This thread just hasn't been the same without you. Sorry you had to bag the Hershey race. As far as I know, I may be the sole WISH team member at that event. Someone please tell me I'm wrong.

Richard: great job on your triathlon PR. You just keep getting better and better......WTG!

I'm so glad I'll be able to reconnect with my WISH buddies in January. After that, my 2012 is going to be a very busy year. In addition to my daughter's October wedding, we are expecting our first grandchild in March.....a little baby Greek! And I would not be surprised if others soon follow. It makes scheduling race events a little tricky.

Good luck to all the Wine & Dine racers this weekend!

Huge congrats to Corinna who finished her first marathon today!! You go girl! :cool1::yay::woohoo:

Debra - Welcome home! You've been missed.

Richard - Congrats on the PR!

Jeanne - A grandchild on the way - how wonderful!

Corinna - Congratulations on completing your first marathon!

What a great way to come back to the thread, with all this great news.

Congrats to Richard on your PR. I *did* read your blog post, and I'm again struck by how amazing your journey has been. Every success, every new challenge met head on, every obstacle overcome has been a joy to watch. And all of it well deserved.

A big woo hoo to Jeanne for the baby Greek. I think that's awesome news, and if scheduling races is going to be difficult from here on out, I can't think of a better reason. And you know what I think - if this is going to be your first holiday without the kids? A trip to Disney, maybe a cruise is in order!

Corinna, as usual, you rock. simply rock. Congratulations on your first marathon. You trained for it, completed it AND did it on a week that was incredibly challenging for you both physically and in terms of time/stress, etc. I hope you're happy with the results.

And congrats to all my cousins - Jen & Butch, Rose, who else? - who did the Wine & Dine, or another race. Or who were at Walt Disney World's 40th anniversary this weekend. I want stories! And pictures!

AFM: We continue to train. Yesterday was 9 miles. I ended up on the TM - first tiime in 6 months or so. It was in the mid-40s, a dip of 15 degrees or so in the last couple of days, and raining hard. So I chickened out. Regretted it, too. How is it possible that 9 miles on a TM is so much longer than on the ground? Maybe it's because "Pretty Woman" was the only non-Sunday religious/news/sports programming at the gym. :lmao:

Debra - I must confess. :guilty: I could run for hours to "Pretty Woman." It's my all-time favorite movie. Any time we scroll by it on the channels, we have to stop. At least until the scene where she goes back in the store and says " You wouldn't wait on me yesterday? Mistake. Big mistake. I have to go shopping now."

Jeanne - Congratulations on baby Greek! I keep thinking we'll have time to get together, but your family seems to have other plans. It's bad that we had to go to Williamsburg to see each other. There is a new half in Raleigh next spring - check out runraleighhalf.com. I'm still on the fence, but leaning heavily towards doing it.

Richard - You just continue to rock. And rock.

Corinna - :woohoo:  :yay:

Cool temperatures here. It's supposed to warm up again some before the weekend, when I'm supposed to do 26 miles with the group on Saturday. But 78 beats 98 any day!

We rocked the audit at work. Turns out the auditor is a new runner from the Dallas area, training for the Dallas White Rock marathon. So we spent all our free time talking running. In our final report he said we got the highest score they've ever given. Yeah me!

Jackie

Jackie: Nice work on the audit :cool1: always good when things go well.

Jeanne: First off CONGRATS on the soon to be grandchild :) You guys will be wonderful grandparents. You WILL NOT be alone in Hershey, Butch and I are doing the race and I think Wendy is too. We still have to find a sitter for our daughter but that is a minor detail...

Richard: Awesome job on the PR. You are an inspiration!

Corinna: Speaking of inspirations... :thumbsup2:cool1::cool1::cool1::cool1::thumbsup2 on your first full. You totally rock!

Nicole: Nice to see you at Wine and Dine, sorry we lost you at the corrals, I hope you and your family enjoyed the rest of your trip.

Rose: It was good to see you again! Glad to hear you are feeling better. Judging from your time for Wine and Dine it looks like your foot held up pretty well, I hope it heals completely for you really soon.

Deb: Nice to see you back here. Sorry you will miss Hershey but hopefully we will catch up in person soon.

We just got back from a much needed weekend get away for Wine and Dine. Work has been crazy and stressful and constant, so it was nice to take a short break. I ran really well and got a PR of 2:10:27. I was absolutely thrilled with the time. Cracking the 10 minute mile pace is a HUGE deal for me. I think I owe most of my improvement to weight loss and hope to keep up this trend and do well in my full in Nov.

Hi cousins! For those of you going to marathon weekend, if you haven't already called to change your room rate based on Disney's new discounts, you might want to do so. We ended up with an extra night and an upgraded room for $100 less than we were paying before.

Well, if I were a little better about checking in more frequently here, I would not have had to wait until today to find out that Jen and Butch (and Wendy) will be participating at Hershey this weekend. I am so psyched to see them all. I just learned that Wendy is staying with a friend. I'll be at the Hershey Lodge with my son and DIL. (John was not free this weekend.) What about you guys, J&B? I understand there's a candy stop at Mile 9.5.....hope they give out Twizzlers in addition to the chocolate, which somehow never appeals to me during a race.

Corinna: congrats on a spectatular first marathon!:banana::banana:
I enjoyed your many photos on FB.

Jackie: congrats on the glowing audit. Runners always seem to have an amazing affection for one another. Glad your common interest paid out. We really do need to make a point of getting together to train. Oh wait, you're WAY faster than I am now.....I now recall the year we frequently trained together was the one where you were injured......doesn't speak well for my marathoning abilities! :scared1:

Has anyone thought about plans for the WISH meet in January....and will there be a separate one for Ohana? Has anyone ever gone to Jellyrolls with the group. I never seem to get the details of that event until it's over. (Oh no, I hope that's not the intention!)

That's it for now.....hugs to all of you!

Corinna - I think I missed the opportunity in this area, so congratulations on your marathon! Awesome job!:cool1:

Jeanne - Good luck at Hershey! I hope you get your Twizzlers!

Debra - Thanks for the blog read--and the many kind words.

Jen - Good luck on your endeavors...races and Mom's Panel. I found your trial video to be quite touching with your physical changes seeming so striking. I just hope they are wise enough to choose you.

John - Thanks for the motivation to check my reservations. While it is not strictly Disney, I got a $179/night at Dolphin. No Magical Express, so I will need a car (which has its other advantages) but still includes EMH and is close to two parks.

AFM - I am almost getting embarrassed posting a new PR (again) but I will anyway....I did a local 10 mile race last weekend and improved my previous best from two years ago from 1:57 to 1:29. I never knew I had it in me. I took my new tri bike out for its first real ride last weekend. Even not quite opening it up all the way, I still felt like I was practically flying. This bike is going to be faster than any bike I've ridden before when I get used to it.

One last detail - So, on marathon weekend, who's in for the usual Ohana Saturday afternoon ice cream social?

Hey everyone.:goodvibes

If anyone is interested, I am going to make a reservation for the Sunday evening of the Princess 1/2 at Boma for dinner. Last year Mike and Maria and Corinna and I went and it was great!

So if anyone is interested in joining us this year, please let me know.

Richard - Congrats on your PR! :thumbsup2 That's a great time!

I'm definitely up for the usual Saturday Ohana ice cream social!

I'm definitely up for the usual Saturday Ohana ice cream social!

I'm up for it too, assuming I actually do make it to the races. I'm being transferred to Doha, Qatar, in November, and I'm not sure yet what my new work schedule will be. I assume I can take vacation in January, but you never know.
