Debra - I see the doctor on Feb 2nd. Until then, I'm in limbo-land as to what my running plans are for this year. I'm holding out that he will clear me to run as of March 22nd (3 months post-op). If not, expect one heck of a temper tantrum. DD has now decided to push the semester abroad to spring 2012, due to deadlines that were pretty much unattainable. (Registration was due yesterday... and they wanted her passport info as well. We let hers expire 2 years ago...) But we're still going forward, and if anyone wants to join us for St Patty's Day in Ireland, feel free!
John & Jen - Looks like an 'Ohana meet at MCM! Jen - that means you need to put this one on the calendar. Registration opens Feb 23. Even if they don't clear me to do marathon mileage, I'm still going to shoot for the 10K. My running partner isn't letting me off the hook on this one. And I've already asked for the days off!
Kathy - Good luck on the job! Saw on the BOT thread that you got a snow day today. What a way to start! And you can come to MCM too, you know...
Rose - I should have thought about the salt. DD had a really bad case of dehydration early in her soccer career (like 6th grade?) and after that any time she got hot or over-exerted herself, she'd get bad headaches or really queasy and often throw up. We tried everything - hydrating for several days before, water, Gatorade, and finally started feeding her pretzels and potato chips during the game. Junior year of high school, and we solved the problem - but not until I'd started running marathons and realizing how important salt was. I also learned that once you'd had a severe reaction to dehydration you were much more susceptible, so she now knows to be extra careful.
PT yesterday - first day in the "gym." Did a whopping quarter mile on some machine. Can't call it a TM, not a bike exactly, definitely not an elliptical, but I was moving my legs.
Tomorrow it's back to the pool. Tonight I'll use the weights at home. My upper body is wondering exactly what it did to deserve this sudden burst of attention, but I'm desperate!
