Team 'Ohana--No One Left Behind: The Continuing Adventures

Rose...I've been dealing with stomach issues the past 3 or 4 years. Went on a really good diet with lots of whole grains and raw veggies, then found I couldn't digest them. I take one pill for reflux, one with each meal to help my stomach run faster and one before a LR of more than 6 miles to prevent runners trots. I quit caffeine for a couple months and figured out that didn't make a difference. It's been extraordinarily frustrating!

Jackie...sorry to hear of your struggles with your hip. Hope it gets straightened out soon.

Corinna...sorry about the flat. Swim lessons sound good...are they private?

Jen...no worries. I think FB kinda takes the place of DIS lately.

Speaking of the Y, we're about to lose our free membership. DH has worked there the past 5 years, but is starting a new job in a few weeks. Trying to decide if we should sign up as paying customers or find a new place.

Since I'm such a rabble-rouser, I got myself kicked out of a charity walk this weekend. Students at my school put together a team for a breast cancer walk so I thought I'd go. Got up early and the dog wouldn't leave me alone, so thought I'd take her with me. I'd been at the walk for nearly an hour with all the volunteers saying hi and petting her before some woman came over and told me it was supposed to be a pet free event due to the patients and people with allergies. I didn't argue...apologized and took the dog home, missing the walk. Checked the website for the walk...nothing anywhere about pets, one way or the other. :confused3

I wonder if you showed up with a bag of peanuts if they would have kicked you out for potential allergy problems too. :rotfl:

Hi all, any chance I can join Team 'Ohana? My name is Krista, I'm 41. I've been running for about 6 months. I just signed up for my first 5k. It is on 11/06/10. I'm currently training for the Princess Half. I have reservations made at OKW, but I haven't gotten my airline tickets or officially registered as of yet. I should do that before next week to save myself $10.00!

I have three kids and live in Minnesota. The Princess Half will be a solo trip, which I am apprehensive about. :)

Krista

I hope everyone's training is going well this fall. I've kept up with a few of you on facebook but hope to do better here as marathon weekend is approaching quickly.

Last weekend I completed the Myrtle Beach half marathon. I signed up for the race the week before. I had thought about it in August but didn't think it would fit into our kids' busy weekend schedules. At the last minute it seemed like we could squeeze it in. My training schedule for Jan had me doing 14 miles that weekend. I thought a race would be more fun than the treadmill...especially a race with other WISHers. There was no way that I could make it to the expo but wonderful Wendy picked up my packet for me and delivered it to my hotel. WISHers are the greatest!!
Overall, it was a good race. Mike and the girls came with me and were excellent spectators/cheerers.:cheer2::cheer2: They moved around the course quickly...I was able to see them six different times on the course.

This weekend Mike is doing the MCM. I'll be there cheering and hope to see some fellow WISHers too.

Good luck to everyone racing this weekend!
Corinna - have fun at the Monster Dash!
Jackie - I'll be looking for you on Sunday.

Welcome Krista!

Mel--yep, the stomach stuff is incredibly frustrating. What do you take to make your stomach run faster? I think I could handle it if it were just plain old runners trots, but it's moved beyond that. (I won't get into too many details.:goodvibes). We're running 10 on Sunday, so we'll see. I just hate going to the doctor. Such a pain! And what drives me crazy is I gave up caffeine for my pacs, don't eat artificial sweeteners, I'm a vegetarian, and the only fried food I eat is french fries--usually only once a week. I have nothing else to give up! Oh well, it is what it is.

My DH wanted to do Myrtle. I didn't want to do two big trips in the same month or two halves in the same month! That's pretty impressive that you saw your family 6 times!

Good luck to everyone running this weekend! We are doing a 5k this weekend for my work. (I work for a non-profit.) Hoping for a time around 27 or 28. Sunday if my stomach cooperates the plan is 10. We are still debating doing a 1/2 in Nashville in November. We'll see how it goes.:goodvibes

Hello Cousins!

Mel - (AKA Rabble-Rouser) Sorry that you couldn't finish the walk with the dog. It seems like there should have been something on their website if they weren't going to allow dogs. :confused3

Krista - :welcome:

Maria - congrats to Dennis on his PR. :thumbsup2 I'm glad to hear that your Ds loves school. Maybe next year, DD will be there too.

Kathy - Congrats on the Myrtle Beach Half! It can be so hard to fit running and races into busy life with kids, but you did it. :cool1:

Lisa - The Atlantic City race sounds like it was great (with the exception of packet pick-up). :)

Rose - Congrats on the 14 miles. Sorry to hear about the stomach issues. That must be very frustrating. I hope you find a solution. :goodvibes

Richard - Just reading about your training makes me tired. :worship: Good luck!

Corinna - Have fun at the Monster Dash. :cool1:

John - Sounds like you've got some busy weeks ahead. BTW, I love the photo of you and the princesses. :thumbsup2

Jackie - Good luck at the Marine Corps Marathon! :goodvibes

Jen - I've been MIA here lately too. It's hard to remember to check in here and FB, all while juggling everyday life with kids. I can't believe how fast little Laurel is growing!

As for me, I haven't done much since my half a few weeks ago. Apparently, I pulled something in my leg and running on it (more like hobbling than running) is making it worse. So I'm taking a few days off and we'll see what happens next week.

I'm so happy to hear everyone's plans for the WDW marathon weekend as well as the Princess. Unfortunately, I won't be able to do either one, but I'm hoping to do the WDW Marathon in 2012. Rob (my DH), wants to do a half in Feb in Hyannis, MA (Cape Cod). I really can't imagine doing a half in Feb - what if it snows?

Based on this year's Goofy, doing a half in the snow in advance might have been considered a good training plan. :)

So true, John! Maybe all of my Southern cousins should visit me this winter for some cold weather training, just in case.

John & Richard - I'm assuming Houston was deserted this past weekend. It seemed that everyone we met at MCM and asked where they were from answered "Houston!" It got to be downright amusing.

Julie - If you do a half in February and it snows, sometimes they cancel it. Especially if it's in the south. I can't imagine that northerners would be bothered by such a small detail.

Kathy - Sorry I missed you at MCM. I saw Mike Sunday before the start, but he's the only WISHer I saw the entire weekend. It might have helped if I were wearing WISH gear on the course! Glad you had fun at Myrtle Beach.

Krista - Welcome!

As for MCM, we're not talking about it. It's over, it's done, and I'm through with full marathons. I know I'm supposed to say that right now, but I'm pretty sure I'll be saying it next week, and the week after that. If I'm not, please copy this post and remind me!

Jackie

Jackie - Didn't you see us waving at you? :rotfl: MCM is a popular marathon down here since we get to train in warmer weather and know we will run in cooler weather. Congrats at completing the marathon that inspired me to run again, and I look forward to the day that I get to do the MCM!!

Jackie - Congrats on the MCM. If you want to come up to Mass. and do a half marathon in the snow, let me know! :)

Congrats Jackie! Good job for toughing out the MCM! I don't think we'll be able to meet up this week. Class is keeping me a lot busier than expected. Unless you want a morning recovery run, in which case I'm game. :)

Jackie: congrats on getting through the full! Never say never, it's too soon to make that kind of call. You had a really rough training period and should be proud of yourself for getting out there and doing this at all.

I hope everyone had a nice Halloween. The weather turned here and it feels like wi ter alrwady. All this talk of running in the snow:santa: we are gearing up for the holidays and our good friends' wedding :bride: in early Dec. Trying to find time to train for Goofy along the way. I'm debating doing a half this weekend through Amish country in PA. Decisions...

Hi, I hope everyone is well.

I did my first 5K today, it was so much fun! My time could have been better (33:xx), but considering it was my first one and I had the flu last week, I am okay with my results. It was really fun! I've signed up for another 5k on Thanksgiving (I'm hoping it doesn't snow before then)!

Take care! :)

Krista
