Team 'Ohana--No One Left Behind: The Continuing Adventures

Richard - that's right. You and Mickey! There was one time I almost got hit in the head with a rock, but my sister, usually the first to try to do me physical harm, actually saved me that time. And has reminded me of that fact ever since! What's the story with your rock in the head incident? It does not sound at all good, I must say.

So tomorrow is Monday. Mixer Day! - I'm thinking of going with Mel's question about the music playlist "sweet spot." Always good to get new music suggestions, I'm thinking! Anyone else have a thought on the subject?

Great idea! I'd love more music ideas!

I have a story with my head and a rock too. Must be a popular sort of incident!

The rock incident was not a pretty one, but could have been much worse or much better if the rock was just a couple inches off of its mark. I'll save the details for when I have time. I like Mel's question for the Mixer and predict it will be a popular one tomorrow.

Oh my goodness! How exciting is this???? I'm really excited for you and hope we'll have a chance to meet up there! Cause goodness knows we don't live close enough to get together otherwise. Sometimes these last minute trips are the best ones. I hope it all falls into place easily for you! :goodvibes
Oh, if I can go, I definitely want to meet up! This will be my first solo trip. While I'm very excited about some park time to myself, I think it'll get lonely if I don't meet up with anyone the whole time. Are you bringing your whole family along for the trip?

Congrats on the end of your Eurydice run. Sounds like you had a wild and crazy day and night yesterday!

Had a good long-ish run/walk today - 6 miles in 71:30. It was faster than I was aiming for - but those first 4 miles felt really good so I did my run segments faster than I'd originally planned. By the time I finished, one of my hips was grumpy with me, but after a few minutes, everything felt good. Need to do some running attire shopping though. :thumbsup2

Allie: :grouphug:

Richard: Congrats on the awesome and speedy run. I did another continuous 8 miler but my pace was only about 11:45-12:00. You are definitely getting faster and stronger.

Jackie: Congrats on the PR on what sounds like a tough course. We are supposed to do a 5K this weekend snow permitting. It makes me want to check out the course to make sure there are no surprise hills.

Corinna: Congrats on a successful run of the show. I can't believe Giant Squid didn't win-- that one always wins in our house :rotfl:

We need an Ohana meet for Princess weekend-- someone name the place and time... (note how I leave myself out of the planning)

It's been a snowy weekend here. We got about 22". I usually love our nice, big driveway-- big enough to play basketball and ride a bike. Shoveling the whole thing was not so much fun. The up side was we made a pretty cool sledding "hill" out of the snow removed from the drive and DD6 had fun sliding down it. Yesterday we though "If one hill is fun why not make two?" We build a pretty big sledding hill off the edge of her swingset-- pretty fun! We were going close to 20 feet, not too bad for never leaving your own backyard. My upper body is a big sore from all of the shoveling and I did manage to get in 15 miles over the weekend (in 2 different runs). We are now bracing for snow round #2 tomorrow night. They are predicting another big storm-- we'll see...

The dog and cat are even getting along better now. It is so cute to watch the kitten pounce on the dog's tail. I admit to praising and petting the dog just to get her to wag more so the kitten will pounce again. :lmao:

Have a great week everyone-- see you at the mixer

THIS made me laugh. Thanks for a bright start to a Monday morning!

Jackie

I'm a sickkie -- I seem to have picked up a stomach bug because after 1M on the TM this morning I was sweating profusely and nauseous, and it didn't get better from there. At least I got the 1M in. I'm callin' it a workout! Hopefully I'll feel up to walking later. There was no way I was going to work...I'm extra glad I got in weights and walking yesterday.

Maria :upsidedow

Yuck Maria! Glad you're able to take the day off. Hope you're feeling better later!

Just so we don't feel left out, good news - Minnesota is getting something like a foot of snow over the next couple of days, too! :cool1: No, seriously, I'm not that excited about this. It means an awful lot of shoveling for me, as I have to keep the glacier at the bottom of the driveway (AKA snow pile from the road plowing) from encroaching any further or we won't be able to get out. Yes, that's correct - I am shoveling a triple wide driveway AND the snow from the street. Fortunately, the driveway itself is only about 15 feet long. I am not sure how this works with my plan to put off my long run till today.

The mixer question is up - come on over and say "hi" if you have a chance! I haven't yet sent out a holler to various other groups due to an early morning trip to the airport and school drop off in snowy conditions chewing up most of the morning. Is it a good idea to do a "holler" each week or do people find that annoying?

I think we should definitely plan an Ohana meet. I know Friday won't work for me. Saturday there is the one at...you know....Riverside. That's it. Do we want to do something Sunday afternoon/evening or are some people heading out after the race? My first thought was that we should go to the wine bar when it is open. My second thought was Ghirardhelli's or Earl of Sammich, but that may not be as good a place to just gather/hang out. Also, anyone who wants to join me for pre-race soft serve ice cream Saturday night, let me know. It's traditional!

Ok, here's what weather is like down here in the South. The weather men said we would have rain this afternoon and evening, and into tomorrow. NOTHING was supposed to happen this morning, well, guess what?????? It snowed!!:scared1: It was just a little sleet when I put DD on the bus, but by the time DS left, and I finished walking the dogs it was really coming down, AND sticking to the roads. Now we are under a Winter Weather Warning! :confused3

Now Monday is my day to go grocery shopping and the store is just across the street, so YES, I went to go buy my milk, eggs, and bread. ;) By the time I left the store, the sun is shining, the snow has melted into slush on the roads, and I hear the birds chirping in the trees!

Gotta love the South! :rotfl2:

Yes the weather is fun, huh? I'm home again with a sick DD so I didn't have to do the commuting today. :thumbsup2 She's feeling a little better and I've actually been able to get stuff done. Tidied and vacuumed downstairs, folded laundry, finally got away the last of the Christmas decorations... :scared1:

I think the mixer reminders are good. I know I didn't always check the Competition section of Wish before I was running. It's nice to have an invite - at least for the first few weeks that you've started it back up.

As for meets, I am up for anything. I'm planning on leaving Monday afternoon (provided I can get off work to go at all, of course!), so Sunday would work for me. I love Earl of Sandwich and I've never eaten at Ghirardhelli's (always wanted to but never seem to be in DTD when I want a snack/dessert), so they sound yummy - but of course a wine bar would be great. Where do you get your soft serve on the night before the race? I may join you. Is there a thread about the WISH meet at Riverside? I've been to the big Princess thread but didn't see the meet listed (didn't read all posts of course).

Wow you've had some crazy weather today already! Glad you were still able to get the kids to school and to the grocery.

Nicole - so sorry your DD is still not feeling well! Glad it means you don't have to be out in this weather, at least. I have been out in it and it's not that bad (once I got out of the neighborhood), but it is very, very slow.

The Princess Meet: the thread leader is not really promoting the meet that much, unfortunately. It's at Port Orleans Riverside on Saturday at....4:30? 4? I can never remember! It's in there somewhere...

As for the soft serve, my favorite is to get it in Epcot - they have it at that new place between the entrance to World Showcase and Canada. Times I haven't wanted to go into a park for whatever reason, they have soft serve at the Boardwalk, too.

Man, the shoveling is quite a process now that there are "walls" around my driveway. My road has not been plowed yet either, so I'm still anticipating even more heavy lifting today with the bump at the bottom of the driveway plus everything pushed up against The Glacier. I am in so much trouble....

Happy Monday!!

Sorry to hear about all of the shoveling, Corinna. I had to do a bit of that myself over the weekend as my husband is still recuperating from surgery and my son has a "sprained" wrist.

Add me to the list of people hit in the head with a rock!! Maybe that should be a mixer a question...sounds like we all have a story to tell!

I have the dates for our walk to Columbus. April 23-26. I think that puts the Flying Pig off the table for this year since it is the following weekend. I will have to find another marathon in June or July.

Checking in quickly - will try to catch up on the thread this evening.....

I haven't been very consistent with my training the last few weeks - got to get motivated so I can survive the Princess in a few weeks. I did manage 4 slow miles on the treadmill this morning.

I haven't read the last few pages of our thread due to ...
  • a week of spotty internet service (:headache: Comcast customer service stinks) followed by...
  • 28 inches of snow and all the shoveling involved with that (I just heard we are suppose to get 10-12 more inches tomorrow)
  • lost electrical power at our house because of the storm:sad2:

Hope all of you are surviving the weather! I'm looking forward to catching up on the Ohana family news later tonight.

I have no snow or shoveling to report though there was some frost on the rooftops this morning. Like Debra, I've been really guilty of overdressing for my runs...after marathon weekend, I never wanted to be cold again...and I'm not terribly cold tolerant to begin with.

I have never been hit in the head with a rock (that I recall) but I did take a softball in the eye when I was 8. That was purty!

I have to go home on Sunday of Princess weekend, but would gladly meet for soft serve on Saturday. I plan to pop into the meet at Riverside, but the Princess thread has been a hard group to integrate into.

I have plans to be sporting leopard for the Princess half.

I have no fabulous training to report, but congrats to everyone else who has been getting out there despite the bad weather. :worship:

Here's another thought: It would be so awesome to have an Ohana meet at the Poly - maybe brunch or lunch at Ohana or Kona on Saturday would work. Kind of more expensive than we'd usually plan for a meet, though. We could also meet at the food court for dole whips and take our picture with the Ohana sign. :)

I'm good at coming up with every contingency. Not as good at deciding on a firm plan.

I know what you mean about integrating with the Princess group, Mel - I can't tell if they are already just very cohesive or if we're just at a different place or what.

I don't know how many pounds of snow I've moved today, but it's been a lot. The miracle is not that there is a huge lot of snow out there or that I have to move it by hand on top of the pile and then climb off the pile and move it again. The miracle is that I am actually, amazingly, fully and completely up to it!!

Corinna: I had the same experience of being shocked at my fitness level for snow removal. My arms are really sore but I did not feel overly tired or exhausted from the 3 hours of shoveling I did. I was pretty proud of myself actually. Good job at keeping your snow at bay. Let's see how much we get with the next storm.

Mel: I agree with wanting to banish cold after the 1/2-- I've never been so cold as I was waiting for the bus back to my resort.

Kathy: Sorry about your spotty internet, nice to see you back.

Maria: Feel better :goodvibes

I also have to leave Sun evening. I would love a meet at the Poly for lunch-- we actually have reservations at Ohana for breakfast at 10:50 (the latest one I could get) We could try to make that a bigger group or have lunch at Kona. I'm also game for whatever else. I'll try to make it to Riverside but admit I have not been following the Princess thread either. Pre-race ice cream sounds good.

Allie – :grouphug:I was sad to read what you posted about the Brown family. I hope that your community is able to support them through this terrible tragedy.

Richard – :thumbsup2Great pace on your run yesterday!
Has Patricia decided on her new place? I don’t know if I’ll be ready for that when the time comes at our house.
Love your medal display. Mike and I still need to come up with a plan to display our medals. :confused3They are currently in a basket.

Terri, Erica, Mel, Richard – I am also now an official Half Fanatic –are there more 'Ohana HF that I’m forgetting.

Richard – can I borrow your HF graphic to use in my signature?

Jackie – We’d love to get together before the Tobacco Road Marathon. Maybe you can suggest a place for all of us to have dinner the night before. Mike and I, and possibly Cindy and Matt are staying at the official hotel – Embassy Suites I think.

Thanks for the Galloway plan that you posted awhile back – I printed it out and will look at it more closely later.

Christine – I hope Mark is feeling better and recovery is going well

JenB –:bday: it looks like I missed your special day – Happy Belated Birthday! Hope your day was great! It sounds like you guys have had a lot of fun in the snow. Mike helped the girls make an igloo, tunnels, and forts in our yard today. Haven’t tried to sled yet – maybe tomorrow before the next storm arrives.
Are you still doing that local 5K on Valentine’s Day? Will the roads be cleared by then? Are you in the path of this next storm too?

Nicole – :welcome: I hope you can work out your schedule to do the Princess! I’m going solo too – so I’d definitely love to meet up!

Marie – Are you forecasted to get some of this next snowfall?

Corinna – When are the races that you are doing back to back?
Love Apples to Apples. We just got the Disney version::MickeyMo for Christmas this year. We played it with the kids by candlelight while our power was out the other day.

Jeanne – I’m sorry you got closed out of the Tobacco Road race. I hope we’ll still be able to see you while we’re down there. Any recommendations for dinner the night before the race? Want to meet up with us?
Love your plan for the Wine and Dine – you have such a fun family!

Princess Marathon Runners I too would love to meet up with everyone on Princess weekend. It's a solo trip for me - don't have any plans yet - I arrive Friday and leave early Monday. Where is everyone staying? I'm at ASMu.

Kathy: There is a Disney version of Apples to Apples ?!? We need to own that!

I am hoping to do the local 5K-- we'll see what the roads look like-- I refuse to run on ice, cold I can handle but not ice. We are in the path of the next one and predicted to get 1-2 feet of snow :scared1:

I will be down for Princess weekend with Butch and DD6. We are staying at ASSports. DD is going to try the Mickey mile on Friday.
