Team 'Ohana 2009: No One Left Behind

Hello team :) I hope everyone is doing well in this crazy holiday season.

I can happily say my 20 miler is done :cool1::cool1::cool1: I got V: The Final Battle from Netflix and watched the whole thing while running. Ironically, my run including a warm up and cool down walk was exactly the length of the show so it worked out well. I'm a bit sore today, but not too bad and only one small blister. Now to finish Christmas stuff.

JenB -- Great job on the 20M! And I can't believe how well it worked out with watching "V"! That's serendipity, for sure. ::yes::

I'm going to walk Downtown at lunchtime today and do my final shopping at Macy's and Borders. I just need gloves for dh and the latest 39 Clues book for ds. I'm going to finish the stockings (ok, I've barely started) this weekend at CVS and Target. I haven't wrapped any immediate family gifts, so that's something else I'll be doing this weekend.

My dad arrives Sunday, so I need to clear out the in-law apt. in the basement. It's not too bad, but we tend to let stuff accumulate down there when we don't have company. DS and I are also planning to bake some cookies before his plane lands. That also means my early AM workouts are over, as the TM lives in the basement. I guess it's good overall, it should encourage me to get more sleep and be better rested, and with a good amount of time off, I should only have to run after work a few days.

Maria :upsidedow

Jen B - Great job on your 20 miles. :thumbsup2 I'm so jealous that you are done! DH & I are doing our 20 miler on Sunday (after going to a Xmas party Sat night - should be interesting :rolleyes1)

Maria - Are those 39 Clues books good? I just saw them the other day. I still have to uy stocking stuff too. I just realized that my kids are off all next week, so I have to get everything done this week. :scared1: Enjoy your visit with your dad. :goodvibes

Hey Julie!

The 39 Clues books also come with cards (each new book has 6 new cards), so I guess it makes it more than just a book to read. DS really enjoys them, and his classmates do as well.

I have a couple of days next week without ds -- His pageant is Monday, and Tuesday is the last day of school. My dad and I are going to the North Shore Mall to finish my shopping completely (pick up a Disney snow globe for ds's collection!), and have lunch at P.F. Chang's. We do this every year, take a day and just shop a little then have lunch. Then we'll pick ds up and his vacation will begin. Dennis and I are both working the 23rd, so ds will have a day with his Grandpa. They really enjoy each other's company, I hope they remember to pick us up at work!

Incidentally, we needed a toy for a Toys for Tots drive at a party Dennis needs to attend tonight, so we went to Target last night. We got one of the last 3 Princess Tiana dolls. They said they can't keep them on the shelves, they are just flying out the door. I also noticed they are temporarily out of stock at Disney shopping online. I'm glad I'm not shopping for a little princess this year! I think they underestimated how popular she would be. On the other hand, plenty of Bionicles on the shelves, so that was easy to pick up.

It's great that you and your DS both get some quality time with your dad. :goodvibes My kids love spending time with my parents, but we're lucky because they live right across the street from us.

Oh, BTW - are we still wearing cheetah/leopard print running skirts this year? If so, I need to order one...

I will if Richard does :thumbsup2

Actually, when I did the Women's Half a few weeks ago, Kathrine Switzer wore a leopard print skirt for the race.

Time's going by soooo crazy fast these days. Tomorrow's my last work day, then it's getting ready for the holidays. We're going away for the first time ever, leaving on the 23rd. Sounded relaxing, but now just seems to mean there's more to day with two fewer days to do it.

:scared1: and one more for good measure :scared1:

I'm looking forward to marathon weekend very much! Glad to have bailed on Goofy...I think halfs are just my distance. This year's Donald will be my 10th half. I also have Princess and the Country Music Half coming up for 2010. Looking for more if anyone has any ideas. We could have an Ohana meet somewhere!

Glad to hear Jeanne doing well. Nancy, how are you doing?

Can someone refresh my memory: When is our Beaches and Cream meet? I'm trying to schedule my weekend and figure out logistics.

Aww, Mel, that's soooo sweet of you to be thinking of me.;)
Of course thinking of me as a cross-dresser is a different thing entirely. :scared1:
I'll have a "special" hug for your compassionate caring come January.

BTW, would leopard print make my thighs look fat?

I think halfs are just my distance. This year's Donald will be my 10th half.

I had justed counted up my HM's the other day and the Donald will be my 10th as well! Maybe that is a cause for leopard print. ;)

1pm on Sat if that works for everyone

Richard, everyone looks good in leopard! ;)

Yup. It's a proven fact. They've done studies and everything. With control groups and placebos and the whole bit. ::yes::

Well as long as it is backed by science, then it must be true. After all, my wife agrees that she has never seen a fat leopard.

(BTW, how do you placebo a leopard print? :confused3 I must not understand since I work in applied science and not research.)

Beats me - I was a theater major.

But I'm going to guess you substitute something that the average person can't distinguish from leopard. Ocelot, for instance.

I am a very bad cousin -- I haven't posted the data for Dennis and I for Nov. yet. I will do that tonight, promise!

Maria :upsidedow

DOH! We've been called out by Racey Tracy. Apparently we're not taking the challenge seriously enough. :lmao: Naww, I'll try to update the numbers soon and get them to her. Now if I could just convince DOOD to send me his...

Okay, as we look forward to January's meet, remember:

WISH POP meet: Friday, ??? (what time is this? I can't remember)
'Ohana Meet: Saturday, 1 p.m., Beaches and Cream
Boardwalk Bakery: Monday, ???

Maria: I have no doubt that Dennis will rock his half, even with his surgery. I was reading something about using XT and particularly ellipticals to maintain some level of base in lieu of running; I can't remember the details but apparently it's quite possible. As for me...:rolleyes1 Well, what I lack in talent or injury-free running I try to make up for with pride. That's the best I can offer.

Your anecdote about your dad (and Jackie's anecdote, as well) did make me go, "Awwww," in a good way. I may be my father's daughter but I'm not a daddy's girl, so your post must have been powerful stuff. I'm also glad you'll have so many families with you at Disney, and that you're looking forward to spending time with them. 'Ohana will try to be among the least dysfunctional of your families. :upsidedow

WTG with all the baking, decorating, and card-sending, Maria! That's some impressive multi-tasking on top of your daily busy-ness. I'm sure your father will love the cookies you and DS bake. I don't know how you manage time for that and training, too! Not to mention your training has been getting faster and faster. I think I'm just going to have to follow your lead on this training thing and maybe draft off you during the half (far, far behind)--great goals for 2010!

I, too, am a bit worried about your ILs and their training. Perhaps they're just sneaking up on the distance for a surprise attack? Good news about the corral placement, because you'll be concentrating on your own race. Do we know how the corrals are working this year? I'm soooo behind on such things.

Jackie: Hugs for you and missing your father and mother. I can only imagine how difficult it can be this time of year, and am glad your DD is there to help carry on. (Even if it's with young adult drama--hey, what would the holidays be without family drama and stories to tell for years to come?) I also think it's great that the marathon weekend gives you (and Maria) an opportunity to spend some couples' time together.

Richard: Awwww, you people are making me want to give you big hugs with the holiday memories and sentimentality. I'm sorry to hear about your MIL but know that you will find new traditions to carry on in her honor. I can't help out with that--holidays aren't a big thing for me--but I'll do my best with the 39.3 miles of silliness at Goofy. Seeing my beet-red face, as early as mile 2, is usually good for a laugh or two.

You've been pushing your legs really hard, so I think you were smart to pull back on the mileage a bit and take more recovery time. I know you'll hit that 18-20 miler this weekend feeling strong and ready for it.

Nancy! It's great to see you here. I hope you'll be at the POP and 'Ohana meets!

Jeanne: It's great to see you--here and spreading the good news about your surgery! Hope you're at 110% soon! It'll be like meeting a whole new you in January!

JenB: You and Butch on a lunch date, with secret plans to...see a Disney movie?? :rotfl2: Oh, you young lovers, you! No, seriously, I hope you enjoyed The Princess and the Frog, and I can think of at least a couple of scenes that would scare DD. And to give your DD a kitten. Awww, I do love my little furballs, so of course I think that's a great gift. As will she.

WTG with your 20 miler, getting it down with only one blister! Great news. And I think it's fabulous that you're doing Goofy with DH--loads of fun, lots of pictures, good memories. You're coming into the event with precisely the right attitude. It's not about the numbers, it's about having fun surviving the sweepers! :thumbsup2

Jen: It's great to see you here--I'm going to miss seeing you in January. No, I don't think you're nuts for having your post-pregnancy race planned. Or it being a half. Or you being ready to get comfortable again. I think it's inspiring!

Corinna: Grinchly might be the best word, ever. I tend to be more like you in outlook--I'm the reason you have the phrase "Debbie Downer." And I'd probably steal the roast beast if I weren't a vegetarian. So you're not alone, sister!

I love that you have options for your half-race pace, and that your option will be satisfying either way! You've been doing a great job with all your races, and I'm so glad to learn you've made your sub-30 5K goal on your Jingle Bell Run. Plus you've reach a 50 pound weight loss. We've had great things happen with all our 'Ohana cousins, and these successes just add to the reasons to celebrate during our January meeting!! :thumbsup2

Julie: 20 miles and then a party? Boy, do I want to hear the stories about the day after. Be sure to drink lots of alcohol in an attempt to hydrate. :rotfl: That ought to make things memorable. Seriously, though, take it easy after your 20 miler, with an ice bath and a nap, and I'm sure it will be fine. And what a great story to share with other party guests.

Mel: I'm kind of sorry you're not going Goofy, but am even more glad you made the best decision for you. I'll be focusing on the half distance next year, hopefully to built a stronger, better Debra, and know how difficult the decision must have been. Where are you going for the holiday?

As for me: I totally forgot about the leopard-print skirt, too, and would need to order one. Oh, the horrors! But I could be convinced. And I'd even let Richard get away with leopard (or ocelot) compression shorts or tights? :woohoo: Perhaps I'll just order an animal-print something or other, just in case.

More seriously, I haven't decided what I'm wearing at all, besides my favorite shoes, socks and sports bra. I have new raceready shirts, but apparently I went up a size and tried a different style, and now they're swimming on me. I just got around to trying them on the other day, and not sure about the chafing issue. I'll try it out this weekend--cross your fingers.

As for training, the less said the better. The body isn't happy with me and has rebelled by knocking off about a minute/mile from my LSD. Which was slow to begin with. I'm hoping to spend the holidays taking it really easy and recovering well. My goal is to finish without pain, except for the butt-kicking I'm giving myself for letting my XT become so sporadic. It's been a tough training season in the household--even DOOD is running slower than last year. So finishing and having fun--that's the priority. Thanks for reminding me of that, cousins.

Now, if you could only get me through these holidays...:rotfl2:

DOH! We've been called out by Racey Tracy. Apparently we're not taking the challenge seriously enough.

Does that mean I can no longer count the hours I run with a clown nose?

Richard: Awwww, you people are making me want to give you big hugs with the holiday memories and sentimentality. All team hugs will be accepted, sentimental or not they will be special. As far as Goofy, we can compare notes to see who better lives up to the name.

I'm the reason you have the phrase "Debbie Downer."
I highly suspect that is VERY untrue!!!

I say order away, I'd love to see you in it (RRRRAWR!!!) As for me, I am planning on wearing something "special" with you team members in mind, so you had better not leave me hanging out there as the only one!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

More seriously, I haven't decided what I'm wearing at all, besides my favorite shoes, socks and sports bra.

I admit that is a good start, but I think you'll need just a bit more---like that leopard print skirt! ;)

OK, Debra, in all seriousness, thanks for the kind words, it is our second Christmas without MIL, so life has settled down a bit and that is not everpresent above every move right now.
I'd be very happy to do the whole Goofy side by side with you (and any other here) just to enjoy each other's company and the race itself. Most importantly, you have all become special to me and I would be happy just to meet you all in person regardless of the race.
