Team 'Ohana 2009: No One Left Behind

Well, I suppose they taste similar so that might work...........

Hmm. I am also a vegetarian so wouldn't know, but I thought I'd heard that predators are not delicious. Maybe that's a myth. Myth! (woman looks in from the back room and says to assembled muppets) Yeth???

Does that mean I can no longer count the hours I run with a clown nose?

I say order away, I'd love to see you in it (RRRRAWR!!!) As for me, I am planning on wearing something "special" with you team members in mind, so you had better not leave me hanging out there as the only one!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I'll wear something fun - we would never hang you out to dry like that, Richard, but I draw the line at running wearing a clown nose.

DOH! We've been called out by Racey Tracy. Apparently we're not taking the challenge seriously enough. :lmao: Naww, I'll try to update the numbers soon and get them to her. Now if I could just convince DOOD to send me his...

Okay, as we look forward to January's meet, remember:

WISH POP meet: Friday, (what time is this? I can't remember)
'Ohana Meet: Saturday, 1 p.m., Beaches and Cream
Boardwalk Bakery: Monday, ???

Corinna: Grinchly might be the best word, ever. I tend to be more like you in outlook--I'm the reason you have the phrase "Debbie Downer." And I'd probably steal the roast beast if I weren't a vegetarian. So you're not alone, sister!

I love that you have options for your half-race pace, and that your option will be satisfying either way! You've been doing a great job with all your races, and I'm so glad to learn you've made your sub-30 5K goal on your Jingle Bell Run. Plus you've reach a 50 pound weight loss. We've had great things happen with all our 'Ohana cousins, and these successes just add to the reasons to celebrate during our January meeting!! :thumbsup2

More seriously, I haven't decided what I'm wearing at all, besides my favorite shoes, socks and sports bra. I have new raceready shirts, but apparently I went up a size and tried a different style, and now they're swimming on me. I just got around to trying them on the other day, and not sure about the chafing issue. I'll try it out this weekend--cross your fingers.

Debra - so much to address here, I don't even know where to start. I am still derelict on my Nov miles due to...technical difficulties and laziness in compiling. I'll get on it as soon as I finish this masterpiece.

I think the POP meet is at 4:30. Do you have big plans for dinner? I hear they have marginal pasta at the POP food court. Nudge, Nudge, Wink, Wink.

Glad we are Grinchly Vegetarian Sisters! What are the odds?

Regarding the pace on the half - I looked at my training plan and it is actually predicting a time of 2:15 and a few seconds. Unreal. Is it possible? Yeah. I think it is. But then I was also thinking, you know, there will be lots of half marathons to knock out of the park, but not so many to run with my C25K friend. Like you say, all the choices look so good!

Oh man, bummer about your shirt dilemma. I am still wearing the same old shirt as last year. I did wear it on my WISH Turkey Trot 10K last month, though, so I think I'm OK. Hopefully yours work out for you - it's not the most chafe-worthy fabric, I think.

MEL!! - I love those tights. Not sure I could rock that look, though. Maybe with a black skirt over it....I don't know. It's so bold. Do you have some? Do you have a link for us? Is LIME zebra more or less tasteful than cheetah? These are the BIG questions of life.

They have skirts, shorts, capris, tights, shirts, headbands...

Though born too late to be a real hippie, I'm kinda partial to this fabric

Very fun, Mel! I wonder if a black skort with green undershorts would be the coward's way out...

I wish they had some hibiscus flower fabric still - that would be a great Ohana fabric. I note that there is a fabric on special this month called (ahem) Jungle Fever. To me, it looks like a leopard print placebo with possible hidden Mickeys!

The balck skort with the green undershorts comments reminds me of our Facebook discussion regarding mooning or inadvertantly flashing other runners as we pass them--only this way would be with the DIS WISH colors.

I think the jungle fever print is perfect for our team.

Mel/Corinna/Richard - All right, decide quickly. DH is going to put a lid on the running gear spending soon! We've bought each other so much stuff this month and called it "Christmas" that it's ridiculous. But I can totally see a new pair of capris, or a skort, in my future!

Debra - The Boardwalk meet is either 9:00 or 9:30, I can't remember which. Maybe whatever time people get there? I think we went over last year and did a VERY slow lap walking around the lake beforehand. I imagine it will be even slower this year.

In the spirit of the Grinch, I'm voting that we skip the entire holiday season and move on to December 26. I'll come to Canada and celebrate Boxing Day, if you'll only tell me what I'm celebrating! MIL tried to get the family together this weekend, but the weather fortunately cooperated and forced a cancellation (we weren't going anyway, but now we don't look like the bad branch of the family!)

DH is suddenly having severe pains in his knee (most likely IT band), but he can't run at all, and is sweating the whole Goofy thing. Those of you who know him won't be surprised that he's determined to do both races anyway, but I expect it will be truly ugly by midday Sunday. And he was in great shape and targeting a sub 5:00 marathon, maybe a sub 4:30, until last weekend...

Me, I just don't want to run anymore. I'm tired of the whole thing. Last weekend's half was enough for me. I'm tired of running in the cold, I'm tired of running in the rain, and it's snowing now and I don't want to run in the snow. I'm supposed to do something close to 16 this weekend, and I really, truly, don't want to. I'll be really glad when Goofy is over and there are nice, little 13.1 mile races on the calendar. Which one of you is responsible for this? Oh yeah, that would be Mel. The one who's not doing it. ;) (You know I don't REALLY blame you, right?) :)

If it weren't for the party at the end of our Galloway season every year where we get to wear all our medals, and the fact that I've counted and realized that I will have SIX medals toward next year's party before the season even starts, I'd have given up on this venture already!

Jackie

Jackie: Hang in there. The end is here. All that is important from here on out is to stay healthy. I too am so tired of training for the Goofy(#5 will be my last)

Sorry I have been MIA but life has thrown too many curve balls at Linda and myself. Things that happened in Jan have now changed our lives forever(can't talk). But one of us can't race anymore while the other is retiring after 5 Goofy's. I have lost the my motivation(as well as my training and racing partner) :( We need to find something else we can do together.

BTW: Make sure you get your last chance to see my cool Kilt at the races!

Hmm, I got to be the first here of the 3 you named. OK, I say go with the jungle fever pattern in shorts, capris or tights--or a fun pattern in a skirt--and have a great time runninng in something fun and fast looking.

Jungle Fever is economical, but not available in skirt form, at least judging from the website. Not sure about running in leopard compression shorts....

After an elaborate consultation (on my Facebook status, of all places!), the Mel-Richard-Corinna Caucus has decided upon Jungle Fever as the official O'hana pattern. The shorts are a whopping $7 right now because it is the monthly special. However, this is likely a "get 'em while they're hot" sort of deal - I don't know if this is a clearance fabric or strictly a deal that will be available but revert to a higher price in another few weeks. :thumbsup2

Jungle Fever Monthly Special

Ok, I'm almost afraid to come back in here -- you all seem to have embraced your inner Stitch, and you're just actin' wild...I love it! ;)

No jungle prints on me. I don't want to be mistaken for a large predator escapee from the Animal Kingdom. :scared1: You'll just have to know me by my lime green WISH shirt. I do plan to wear my Ohana print bandana at the Pop Meet.

Sending  to everyone having a hard time -- this time of year is tough enough in so many ways, injuries and issues just make it even more difficult to be jolly.

So, in my world -- hit my 8M Saturday, incline walking yesterday and 4M today. My dad's flight was cancelled yesterday, so today and tomorrow I can be on the TM before work. We also have another night to get the basement in-law fit for human habitation. Ok, it's not that bad, but it does need a good dusting. DS's Christmas pageant is this afternoon. Afterwards we're going to bake cookies. I'm sincerely hoping he doesn't have homework, as tomorrow is the last day of school. I have two more gifts to wrap, the cards are all out, and I should be able to relax very soon. I'm not working tomorrow (it was my scheduled shopping day with my dad), so I will easily be able to give the house a good once-over before his flight arrives. I'm back at work Wednesday (hoping for a ton of DIS time that day), and then home for all the Christmas festivities.

I know, TMI...everyone hang in there this week!

Busy, Busy, Maria! I don't blame you for being nervous to stick your head back in here - I don't know about the others, but I think I'm trying to transform my holiday irritation into half-marathon PARTY attitude:

:crazy2: ---------->party:

I'm willing to do the animal print since the half marathon course goes nowhere near Animal Kingdom. At least I think I am. I may be mistaken for an escapee from the Jungle Cruise, however. Especially given what I may have to do to my hair to keep it out of my way:

Well, truly at least it won't be that out of hand.

We're hunkering down here before the holiday - apparently we'll be getting a bunch of snow between now and Sunday. Great timing as far as I'm concerned - I don't even have to take the kids to school. Bad timing as far as people travelling for the holidays, though.

As for the training: well, I spent 2 hours on the treadmill on Sunday night and ended up feeling pretty crummy afterward. All better now. I had to go to a different bodypump class on Monday since they are refurbing the studio at my regular Y - it was nice, and I took it easy on the weights given I'd felt so questionable the night before. Today, I still need to get my run in. After Sunday, 3 in the treadmill sounds like a picnic, though! I've gotten to the point where I've resigned myself to getting real cozy with the TM for a while here. The days are short and the sidewalks are slick. If the roads aren't too bad, I may drag the kids over to the Y so I can do a spin class tomorrow. One of the nice things about being in the final stretch of training this time of year is that it really does keep those workouts focused and consistent!

Wishing a very Merry Christmas to all of my Ohana cousins and their families.

I'm pretty much signing off here until after the holidays. 3 of my 4 children have already arrived; the 4th and the Greek will be here tomorrow morning. This year as a post-surgery gift my kids are taking care of Christmas dinner....all I need to do is show up! Heck, I may even throw in a dessert or two, but really looking forward to the light duty. I'm doing well in terms of healing, but did take on a little too much too soon and suffered a minor set-back. Not to fear, I'm a tough old broad.

Love, kisses, peace, joy, etc. etc to all of you. May your holidays be filled with all good things. I am so looking forward to seeing many of you in just a few weeks.

Jeanne

Happy Holidays Team Ohana!

We're 'up north' in the NC mountains. Lenna's playing in her first snow (this is only my 3rd time and never this much before). I'm sure y'all get tired of snow, but it's positively magical for us right now. I'm totally amazed that it doesn't seem that cold. It's in the 20s this morning and I was walking around in just a sweater and long sleeve Tshirt. It's weird, but so fabulous!

Can't wait to see you guys in a couple weeks! Hopefully we'll have good weather for ya!

I hope everyone had a Merry Christmas and has an overall great holiday season as well.
:santa:

I hope everyone got everything their little hearts desired yesterday, and we're all looking forward to a very Happy New Year!

I did my 9M in 108 minutes, so I'm feeling very good right now. I know I won't be this speedy on the WDW course, but it sure feels good today!

Now I have to start :laundy: and all those other things I didn't bother with yesterday...

Maria :upsidedow

Hey Cousins!

Incline walking yesterday, and planning for 4M on the TM when I get home tonight. Anyone planning anything awesome for New Year's Eve or Day? We'll be playing games and watching movies. I got "Star Trek" for Christmas, so there'll be Vulcans for me...

Maria :upsidedow

Hello team. Sorry I've been MIA for a while. We had a crazy week around Christmas including 20 inches of snow and house guests who missed a flight back to CA and stayed with us all week until they could get home. It was actually really nice to see them and catch up (my old college roommate and her DH) but it made the week really hectic. They are now home safe and the house is ours again. Our Christmas was fun and DD6 is psyched she will be getting a kitten in a few weeks.

I will respectfully refrain from any animal prints for these races but will happily take blackmail photos of all who choose to wear them :rotfl:

For New Years we are heading to the house of some good friends for games and merriment. We will then run a 5K on the boardwalk in Ocean City, NJ to bring in the year on Jan 1st. We actually talked a few friends into running with us (and other friends into providing childcare during the race). On Jan 2nd DD gets to meet her new kitty (still too young to bring it home but we get to play a little).

Maria - I got Star Trek, too! Too bad I have been too busy to watch it!

I am frantically trying to get my work caught up so I can leave for WDW on Saturday. :cool1: There is so much to do, and it seems everyone else has an interest in making it harder for me.

Hmmm, sure is quiet around here. I am pretty sure it is not because everyone has already gone to the World. I am taking a break from finishing up my work that I brought home--once I finish payroll I am done, and just have to take it back to the office tomorrow!! Then it is off to WDW early Saturday. OK, back to work now......
