Team 'Ohana 2009: No One Left Behind

Hello all,

Running around like a chicken without a head today.....so much to do, so little time. Trying to tie up all the loose ends before we leave for CA tomorrow. I'm just so happy that many of my Ohana cousins will be there.

Deb: I wanted to post my activity for August, but can't find the thread!:scared1: I looked back 3 pages and it doesn't seem to be there. Sooooo, even though this is totally illegal, I'm posting it here: 154 miles; 39:39 hrs:min Sorry for the infraction, but i figured you would take the information any way you could.

Jen/Corinna: love the photos! You're both looking good! :thumbsup2

That's it for now, guys......maybe i'll get back later.......maybe I won't.

Have a wonderful holiday, everyone!

Just a quick hello from the Disneyland Hotel! It is hotter than blazes here today. I am crossing my fingers that it cools off soon, though it sounds like tomorrow is going to be warm too. I saw where there are already setting up the parking lot for the races - tents and lots of port-a-potties. :thumbsup2

I have one more 5 mile pace run to get done somehow tomorrow. I am thinking it may be a treadmill slog. Getting up early, early tomorrow morning should not be a problem given that I'm two hours ahead of the rest of California.

So far we are having no fun at all - hot weather, grumpy kids, everything unfamiliar, but that's OK! We are going to head to the pool soon and hopefully that will fix everything!

Jen! - you look so much happier and more poised than I ever am in the heat, let alone pregnant! Tell us more about this Rump Roast race - it must be something special to have a name like that!

Maria - Thanks for the good bike wishes.

Debra - I posted to the Google Doc page for my hours and distance--early for once!;)

Corinna - Enjoy DL and I hope the weather cooperates for you!

Mel - Congrats on that special appearance, you looked good and came across well, but isn't the lab coat a bit of a cliche for television? A job well done on a subject near to my heart.

Jen - Nice pic of you preg at WDW, wishing you continued good luck throughout your pregnancy!

I just have to brag on our cousin --Corinna! Not only was she the DIS Biggest Loser in last week's contest, she has lost for every week of the summer challenge! She is a superstar! :worship:

Maria :upsidedow

Another cousin checking in from DL.

Corinna: We are also at the DL Hotel and decided the pool was the only sane thing to do this afternoon because it was so hot out-- I really hope the weather cooperates for the weekend. Hopefully I'll see you around the hotel.

We had a nice trip out to CA. My ear is much better and my DD's cough is nearly gone so all is well. We stayed for a few days with a friend in LA and went to Santa Monica beach--really nice. We then spent some time in Legoland which was also totally fun. We just got back from seeing the fireworks at Disneyland and are trying to take it easy and enjoy our trip. Our character breakfast this am was really funny. Dale was "talking" to us by writing on our paper tablecloth. My DH had on a TOT 13K shirt so Dale asked if we were running this weekend. He then proceeded to tell us to hydrate and gave suggestions for good places to carbo load-- it was really funny.

I'm trying to get a few runs in but have not been very successful-- the neighborhood in LA did not seem like the best place to go running and today was just too hot and busy, so hopefully I can get in a few miles tomorrow just to remind my body what this running thing is. I keep telling myself that at least I have been walking tons so I should be ok

Can't wait to see everyone..

Congrats, Corinna! :cool1::thumbsup2:cool1:

Hope to see you, Julie, and the other 2 Jens soon!

I won't have internet so I won't be able to report back to my other cousins.
I'll report back next week.

Good luck to everyone in DL this weekend!!

Just a quick hello  to all of my cousins. Back to school week has been busy. I promise to catch up with everyone very soon.

Good luck to everyone doing the DL Half! I can't wait to hear all about it. :cool1:

Thanks for the BL kudos - it's been a good summer!

It is disgustingly hot this afternoon and I've been overdoing it at DL the past couple days, too. I feel my feet which is not good. I also didn't want to run outside in the heat of the day or the dark of the night so I opted for my last pace run on the resort TM last night. I am going to need to take it a little easier the next two days. I mean 20,000 steps a day on the pedometer is not exactly a taper. Although I discovered that the Indiana Jones ride puts 100 steps on just while you're in the jeep. :rotfl:

I am not sure if I'm going to pick up my packet this afternoon yet or tomorrow. Looking forward to the WISH meeta tonight and tomorrow!

JenG - the pool really is the only SANE option this afternoon!

Corinna - Congratulations!

Jen - Great picture! Will keep my fingers crossed for a boy.

Lots of good wishes for everyone at DL. Hoping for cooler temps and clean air!

We're headed to Carowinds tomorrow for the day with DD and her BF. Kind of an end of summer blowout. Should be a fun day. DD and her BF need it, since once they get back to school it's only a matter of days now before the BF's grandfather dies.

Then back to work, and nightmare world. My coworker MIGHT be back on Thursday, and I can return to doing just one job. MIGHT. Depends on what her doctor says. Even if she is, we found out last week that our company was sold, so the future is completely uncertain. On top of that, the inventory that we weren't going to have to do this year has now been moved up to the end of the month because of the sale, and I have to get everything together in 3 weeks. Then we get to spend 2 days counting, and I have to input everything in the computer in a day or two. (They tried to tell us if we didn't get it all counted by Friday that we'd have to work on Saturday, but that's the day of our 23 mile run, and I told my boss it was non-negotiable. I'm not working that day.) I'm glad that I run; otherwise, I'd be completely crazy by now. Fortunately, the only visible sign of stress is that I can't complete sentences - words just leave me at random times, but my sister assures me that it's completely normal based on what I'm going through and it will improve!

Going to bed now - everyone have a great weekend!

Jackie

Aloha, Cousins!

Jackie -- Wow, if all your losing is a few words, you are doing great. You have so much stress, you need that 23 mi run! :grouphug:

Corinna -- Yes, not the best taper, but so much fun! I'm glad you are having a great time, you have totally earned it!:thumbsup2

Julie -- We're still batting around a 5K for next weekend. I'll probably end up walking with ds while dh runs. At least I'll we'll get some bonding time...:confused3

JenB, Jeanne, JenG, Corinna -- I hope you enjoy your mini-Team Ohana meet! :yay:

I just did my 4.5 mi run, and the endorphins have me feeling great!

I went shopping yesterday and bought a ton of organic food. We're going to give it a try. I just had my first organic yogurt, and it was yummy! Richer and creamier than the yoplait, for the same calories. Organic bananas pass the test too, but they are a bit smaller.

Tuesday I'll be trying an organic egg omelet. I just read Jillian's book Master Your Metabolism, and I'm trying out alot of her ideas -- going organic, not drinking cold anything but water and milk (easing into that one), and of course the exercise.

I hope everyone is having an awesome Labor Day Weekend!

Whew - half marathon is done and I've had a nap and, just like in Beauty and the Beast, I feel somewhat human again. I have a camera full of photos but it's a dumb olympus with a proprietary plug that is, unfortunately at home. I will say this, though: The weather was not too bad - it was cool when we started. The sun did come out and started to cook us a little about 2 hours in, unfortunately. I think that is when it happened.

I can't speak for the other cousins, but for me, it was a good day, a good run. I ran it over 30 minutes faster than my race in January and had a great time running with and chatting with various members of the WISH family. The Coast to Coast medal is the most impressive medal I have ever seen. The on-course entertainment was interesting - I think they gathered every cheerleader and high school band in Anaheim! There were quite a few characters in the parks, too - I even stopped for two photos!

All right, I'd better wrap this up. Hope everyone is having a good weekend!

Checking in from GCH...

Had a enjoyable and decent run, though I think it was a couple minutes slower than my Huntington Beach run in February. After the race, spent the day in the parks and endulged on all those treats I passed on these past few days -- corn dogs, mickey bars, a lava flow -- hey, I earned it! Definitely ready for a good night's sleep now.

It was great meeting the Ohana cousins. I was thoroughly impressed with your Coast to Coast medals! :woohoo: I'll have to get myself one of those someday.

DH and DSs had a great time with the 5k and kids' races. With no training, my DH ran the whole 5k and beat my time. Though I don't think he could have run another kilometer. Kids had fun running the 200 yard dash down mainstreet and love their plastic "metals."

I'm beyond tired, so I'd better call it a night. Was great to meet the Ohana WISHers and hope to see you at the next race!

We had a great time in CA and loved seeing lots of WISHers :cool1:

Jeanne: Smoking great time at the 1/2-- you will be totally ready to rock NYC:thumbsup2, It was great to see you guys. Enjoy the wedding planning.

Corinna: I loved repeatedly seeing you in the parks. I hope you and your kids had a good time. Thanks for being my running buddy through Angels stadium  I just got DD on the school bus for her first day of school and yes, I cried... (but after the bus pulled away so she couldn't see me)

Robert: I love your pictures. I did see another kilted runner during the race but alas it wasn't you... hopefully we will meet in person at the next event.

Our races went pretty well. The weather had been really hot all week but luckily on the morning of the 1/2 it was a bit cooler and less humid. It was even a little cloudy until 8:00 so that helped too. Running through the stadium was really fun and the entertainment on the course was good. There were tons of bands and cheerleaders. DH had a great day and ran a PR of 1:58. I did well the first 11ish miles then the week of walking all over Legoland and DL caught up with me. I missed a PR by less than a minute (I wish I had realized I was that close while I was on the course-- maybe I would have found some reserve of energy to push a bit harder). Overall the race and trip were really fun and we are already planning for next year-- can't miss a five year anniversary medal

Now I am sorely tempted to do the Race for the Taste in addition to the Tower of Terror (already signed up for ToT). The next event on the horizon for me is the Philadelphia Distance Run on Sept 20th-- its a half and I'm hoping I can pull out the PR for that one...

I'm still on limited internet time, but wanted to drop by and say that I miss you all! : I hope to carve out some time tomorrow or Thursday for my WISHers friends. :grouphug

Congrats to all who did DL (and VA). I'll be reading the RRs when I can, and I'm so glad there were so many cousins in attendance. You all rock! :cool1:

And a very special shout-out: Happy Birthday, Jackie!! :drinking1:bday::cake:

Hello Ohana! What a super-fun weekend it was in Disneyland! Ohana was one of the best represented teams there, I believe.

Jeanne - I can't believe how fast you walk! Amazing! It was fun spectating the 5K with you, too!

JenB - Sorry we didn't stop to say hi and goodbye in Tomorrowland on Sunday night - I think I was just fried by then and my family was walking faster than me in the opposite direction. It was so fun hanging out with you and your DH after the race and at the meet, not to mention Angel stadium! A real highlight of the race, for sure. How did DD's first day of school go? We all managed to get up and out the door this morning somehow. Kind of rough when coming back from the West Coast to the first day of school in the Central time zone. What distance is the Philly race? I am trying to decide between ToT and RFTT, though I'm not sure I can reasonably do either.

JenG - I'm so glad your family enjoyed the 5K and kids races! It was great hanging out with you at the meet and after the half marathon, too! You were bold to go to the parks after the race! I slept for a couple of hours before we headed back to Disneyland. I am glad you got to enjoy some of those treats after the race! Oh, and don't be TOO impressed with the C2C medals - mine has alread come off the little ring that was holding it on the ribbon. The D-ring was not squeezed closed and it just comes off. Fortunately, this was in my bag, not in the park, but still. No quality control there, I tell ya!

Robert - it was fun seeing you on the course! I agree with Jen - your pictures are superb! I considered trying to stop for a photo at the finish line as well - it really looked like a photo op!

I've got a bunch of my photos up on facebook, but I am not facebook friends with all the cousins and other WISHers, so the tagging is very spotty. Has anyone joined since the last time we talked about this? I'll put a few up here as well - I hope nobody minds. If it's a problem, let me know and I'll pull them. :)

Here I come in the half marathon! And that's my DS holding up the sign I made - he alternated between the Corinna Rocks! side and the Go WISH! Side for me. :)

Had to get the Coast to Coast medal photo with the statue. I just wish my DH had gotten a little closer so you could SEE the medal as well as the statue and castle. I should not complain!

Corinna: I was in no way offended in tomorrowland. We were sort of done by that point ourselves. The park had reached the "stupid crowded" point and I was tired of feeling like I was fighting my way upstream. We did one more Matterhorn ride (DD's favorite) and called it a night. Thanks for posting the pictures, I'm still getting around to removing mine from the camera.

We made it home ok and did get up in time for school. DD did well on her 1st ever bus ride to school but got a bit upset on the ride home because she thought she missed her bus stop. I found a crying kid on the bus and it broke my heart, but the driver was super nice and we both reassured her that she was fine and would do great tomorrow. After a few minutes of recovery she then spoke excitedly about her day and her new classroom and teacher, so I think first grade will end up ok.

It's great to see those photos and reports from the DL Half. I sure hope to be there next year.

Debra - I am sure I speak for the Team when I say we miss you, too, and look forward to your return.

Thanks for the team miles and minutes folks! Keep 'em coming!

Still trying to catch up with everything, but I wanted to pop in and say to Corinna thanks for the pictures! The cousins all look so happy, relaxed and--if I may so so--attractive. I'm a fairly heterosexual cougar, but Mreowsa! (And only a fairly heterosexual one. :lmao:)

Jen: Can't remember if I posted a response to your PG picture or not, but you're one hot momma! You look beautiful! :cloud9: Relaxed too, which would not be a look on my face if I were preggers. :rotfl:

Corinna: Over 30 minutes faster? Wow, wow, wow! You've really been kicking booty this year with the running, the races, and the BL. Congratulations on all your successes!

JenB: Congrats to you all, not only for the DL 1/2 but for DD's first bus ride! What a big occasion! I think you should do RftT, too. Last year....

JenG: That's great to have a whole family of runners, including the kids... What fun! (Also very cool to put a name with a face.)

Jeanne: NYC is up next! More wedding updates?

Richard, I think we should start planning a C2C contingency now. That bling looks nice! And DL is my favorite place in the world (sorry WDW).

Jackie: Birthday stories? Is the co-worker back permanently? I'm glad you got to spend some downtime with DD and her BF this past weekend, especially since BF's DGF is nearing the end. Hugs to you all.

Julie: Oh wherefore are thou, Julie? School's now in session and I'm looking forward to hearing your marathon training successes!

Mel: How's the Goofy training progressing? Especially mixing it up with all the other events?

As for me: Been a bit under the weather after bonking this weekend on the 2nd of my b2b runs. I have a cold and have been headachy all week. I'm hydrating, so I'm not sure what's going on. It could be the slight tension in the household. DOOD's gotten some disturbing work-related news. Nothing too major, just another indication the the academic world is not the far removed from the shenanigans of the corporate one. It'll be a rough semester....

In lighter news, I've applied to be a member of the Disney Moms panel. Not sure if I really want to do it, but since they're taking the first 20,000 submissions I'm not too worried about having to make a decision...:lmao:

Also, I'm planning on reinstituting the weekly mixer now that almost everyone's training plans have started. I think it will be a good way to get to know/get reacquainted with our other cousins. Questions are welcomed! :thumbsup2 We could also start the formal planning for an 'Ohana meet. I'm hoping a couple of cousins would be willing to hash that out, as I'm still not certain if DOOD and I will be attending....:sad2:
