Team Miles Game Sign-ups

Can I play huh?

Only running aobut 15 miles a week now but will ramp up soon for a 1/2 in early March.

Also plan on going Goofy so I'll add a lot of miles in the last few months!

I wanna play too. PLEASE PLEASE!!!! I was on the verge of quitting running after the full, so I need this to get me back on track.

After what we psychologist types call the post-reinforcement pause (i.e., vegging out for a week or two admiring my medals)
OH! It has a name? I was wondering what was going on with me. I put the medals in the drawer with the rest of them today so I guess its time to get serious about my next race.

You can't quit running! We still have to run a race together. Running the exact same time 30 minutes apart doesn't count. I think we might be perfect racing partners. Also, my first marathon went alot like yours, so there is great hope that you can run backwards and dance around people when you run the next one!

I would like to be in! Like Jeanne, I would like to be on the winning team!:rotfl: :rotfl:

It will be good motivation for me!

Please sign John (Space Ranger) & I up too. I'm hoping it will be the motivation I need to keep putting in the steps over the cold winter.

Hi Dave,

Count me in. I hope to run 15-20 miles a week for the next few months. Maybe more over the summer.

I was looking at Lynne's totals and realizing that any sort of triathlete's totals (mine for example) would make a huge tilt in the standings compared to those who simply walk/run. So I was thinking maybe counting hours instead of miles? So those who dedicate their time walking 3 hours and covering 12 miles get the same credit as a cyclist who bikes 60 in that same timespan? I know that I'm more impressed with someone who can walk for 10 hours a week than someone who gets the variety of doing multiple sports... I couldn't do it! :confused3

Excellent point, Matt....I'm with you on that. As a walker I can rack up the hours alot quicker than the miles.

Hum, total hours exercised, interesting concept. What does everyone else think, we could track both and have prizes for both catagories. We could let each team deside if they wanted to compete in both catagories or just the miles, or just the hours.

I'm not very fast, so total time would be best for anyone competing on my team. :( It took me 50 minutes to go 2.5 miles today. I'm hoping, obviously, to speed that up, but I'll never be running 6 miles in an hour, you know?

I think tracking both might be more work for the team captains, but I think it's worth it. :)

Well for me - I may be alone - but I think I worked every bit as hard doing that marathon - even tho I came in lastest (not last, but close) so doing hours does seem to take into account how hard we're working -

and yet, its supposed to be motivating, and I know Mighty Panda that you are doing your best to equalize the teams - good luck with that btw!! :worship:

so - - either way - I will work as hard as I can!!

I am a WISH newbie--having met some of you at the Disney half marathon last week. May I sign up for this training motivation? I need a kick in the butt in the 4 degree weather right now!!!! Younz are the best!!
Thanks!
Marie

Hummmmmmmm mixed feelings. My goal is to complete the mileage within a time limit. Example my goal for the Donald 2009 is 3 hours. I was just over 3 hours for the Indy - I hope to improve. If I go for the hours I walk, bike, etc - I do not want to lose track of that. Do you think we will train as hard counting the time? :confused3

Welcome, Marie! You forgot to mention that you met some of us at the Pop meeting on Friday! :)

I want to play. I am not certain of the mileage/time at this point due to pending issues. I'll go with hopeful of 15+ miles/week and/or some hours of time trying to maintain some sort of XT.

Well I never posted my mileage goal. Sooo, I am hoping to keep it 20+ until marathon training in the fall. I am also hoping to race a little more locally which will kick up my miles a little bit more too. I use the MfM plans for training which go by minutes not miles so much so I am just guessing....and knowing me, it will probably be more. Not like Lynne.......:rolleyes1

I'm good with either miles or time or both.

I try to do spinning as XT once in a while, but the bikes at our gym don't track "miles." So, I wouldn't be able to add that in to my miles calculation but it could count towards a team time.

Lisa, have you used www.mapmyride.com? I'm using one of the Running for Mortals training plans, so I'm doing time as opposed to miles like you. But, when I get home I map out the route I ran/walked so I know exactly how far I went.

Cari: Funny, I just had someone else ask me that but they used mapmywalk.com. Same thing apparently just a different site. I use my Garmin 205 religiously and I have no idea how I ever lived without it. I used to use the Nike+ feature but figured out quickly that it was not very accurate no matter how much I calibrated it.

I used to beat myself up because I wanted to go so many miles in so much time but now that I use minutes and have 1 mileage run a week, it works better for me. I don't feel the stress to make it x amount of miles, just x amount of minutes and however far I make it, it is what it is.

Carrie - WTPLC alerted me to this *friendly* competition. I would love to join in. I did a walk/run for the Disney half-marathon this year and plan to do the same in the Mickey in 09' My mileage will probably be 12 miles on foot, 20miles biking per week until about August when my mileage will obviously kicked up a few notches!! :goodvibes
