Team Mickey - Biggest Loser "No Excuses" 2012 Challenge

QOTD Thursday, 1/5/12 What exercise excuse do you use most often?
I don't have time
I'm too tired
It's too difficult for me
It's boring
I don't want people to see me
I don't know what I'm doing
All of the above
I don't make any of these excuses

For me, it's always been the first two - I don't have time, and I'm too tired. Before I started exercising, it was also not wanting people to see me, feeling like I'd be completely out of place in a gym. That one was dispelled pretty quickly once I actually started going and realized that everyone is in their own zone and really couldn't care less about me huffing away on an elliptical.

I no longer belong to a gym and have been piecing together workouts at home. Getting up in the morning to work out is probably my biggest get-healthy challenge - especially when it's cold and dark outside. I just want that extra time to sleep! This morning, I went ahead and gave myself the extra sleep. Then I got up, did a little work, and then did 20 minutes of Just Dance (Just Sweat) followed by 30 minutes on the bike - 8.5 miles! I stretched, worked a little more, showered, and had a late breakfast. Gotta say, I wish I'd just gotten up when I should have, but I do feel pretty great right now.

Things I'm noticing as I get back into old (and try new) exercise routines:

1) I love Just Dance! I'm a hopeless klutz, but I'm picking some of the moves up, and it's fun. I knew I could last a few songs, so I went with the "tough" Just Sweat weekly goal. I like that if you go over the 1000 points on one day, it still makes you get the 1000 points the next day. :)

2) To combat boredom and to make the time go faster on my exercise bike (which really does make me break a serious sweat when I get going!), I watch TV. Tuesdays and Wednesdays, I'm watching BL. This morning, I watched the Today Show, as nothing was hanging out on the DVR but the kids' shows. And I noticed something that's probably a no-brainer - during BL, the commercials are for healthy foods, weight-loss programs, and the like. During the Today Show? Fast food (giant cheeseburgers in my face) and the Olive Garden (now I want to go throw myself into a giant pile of pasta). I'm looking forward to getting some more shows on DVD through Netflix so I can avoid this very unwanted temptation!

Hope everyone has a great Thursday!

XO
Liz

I have sent my WIN numbers, through a fog of jetlag, but it is DONE! I have started tracking my food, and have to send my weight in. I am on my weigh to do that. ;) Good luck today, everyone! (I'm off for a nap ;) as I catch up with the first BL show. )

My excuses are several of the above....I'm too tired, it's boring...but my biggest one would be I will do it later...but I never do.

So far this week I've done well. Yesterday was hard...I am having horrible cramps and don't want to do anything. I did though...yay me!:cheer2:
Oh yeah and the chocolate cravings are strong. Luckily there is none in my house and dh has the car, so I can't go get any either.

:wave2:

. I know-- I'm weighing myself every day--not good, but I'm sure I'll get real bored with that soon lol.
I tried to resist the urge to weigh in everyday but finally decided to just give in. I actually like having a daily idea of where I am and it helps me to adjust my day. I actually think it helped me with maintaining for the last 6 months because it was a kick in the pants to do better that day if I didn't like what it said. Of course during TOM I don't even look at the scale!

Love this one, too. Haven't been able to figure out how to move stuff from FB to here. :lmao:

::MickeyMo Morning Team!
Well, I didn't get to bed at a decent hour (230am), however I was up at 9am. now how on earth did I accomplish that feat? Well, I'll tell you: I set the alarm on my phone and put it on the other side of the room , this way my but had no choice but to get out of bed and turn it off. Oh, and well it helps that my ring tone is Stitch yelling at me .

. I have to get new sheets for our bed. Yes, its a mystery that when i went to get in bed last night the fitted sheet on our bed had a big HOLE in it. Yeah, we're still trying to figure that one out.
.
:cheer2: for getting up early. I wish that trick worked for me but I am immune to it! I get up at 6:45am to wake DD up for school, walk down the hall, open her door and stand there until she is moving then I crawl back into bed and am back asleep . I can always talk myself out of staying up!

There must be something in the ozone because 2 of my fitted sheets have developed holes in the last few months. I just got a new set after Christmas to replace one of them. Need to see about just buying a fitted sheet-- sets are expensive for a King sized bed!

And I noticed something that's probably a no-brainer - during BL, the commercials are for healthy foods, weight-loss programs, and the like. During the Today Show? Fast food (giant cheeseburgers in my face) and the Olive Garden (now I want to go throw myself into a giant pile of pasta).
I swear that as soon as we decide to start eating healthy EVERY commercial on TV is for a fast food place. :rotfl:

I have sent my WIN numbers, through a fog of jetlag, but it is DONE! I have started tracking my food, and have to send my weight in. I am on my weigh to do that. ;)
:rotfl2: Love that! You accomplished a lot today, enjoy your nap.:goodvibes

For Nancy and the folks who did want to do a little math for weight loss . . . :thumbsup2
You lost me at the word math. . . :rolleyes1

I am posting early for Thursday's QOTD about excuses because I will be on a class trip with my daughter. I am trying hard not to make ANY excuses. I know success depends solely on me. No one else could do this for me, not even if I paid them. If that were the case, celebrities would hire an assistant to work out for them. Not possible. If it is to be, it is up to me!
Loving your inspirational quotes. Thanks for posting them. And so true that we are the only ones that can make this happen.

Sorry about posting again so soon. I was just watching the Biggest Loser and happened to glance on the wall in my living room. I have two photos of when I performed for the Mouse, and watching the stories of the former athletes, it really hit home that I am like them. I look at those pictures and I think about the girl that used to dance in the parades and shows in 100+ degree heat in those costumes, and I don't know where she went. I can't even get through one song on Just Dance on the freaking Wii. I was looking at old photos on Facebook. I remember thinking how I felt fat at the time (I was at the top end of healthy weight) and now I look and wish I could be that skinny again. I still have those clothes and am nowhere near fitting in.
Gorgeous picture! I can't believe people can perform in those in the FL heat and humidity. Great idea to use it for inspiration.

My ultimate Goal weight is what I weighed the first time I joined Weight Watchers. Seems kind of crazy that what was fat for me at the time would be a dream now!

DH and I had a long talk about our progress over the last year, our health goals and plans for this year. He agreed with me that trying to get myself on a schedule would be beneficial. Then I was reminded this morning of why that never happens when DD11 called me from the nurse's office at school!

I abandoned my cup of hot coffee and ran out of the house to go to the school, had to stop at the drug store on the way. Decided to bring her home for a bit-- she has very bad monthly issues and was not doing well today. Came home, got her settled, realized that in the 20 freaking minutes I was gone the cat had grabbed the bag of steak that was thawing on the counter, chewed the bag and barfed several times on the living room floor. Fortunately she abandoned the steak away from the mess so I salvaged it for dinner (she only wants the bag, not the meat). Made the marinade and put it all in the fridge. After about an hour, copious amounts of heating pads (LOVE Thermacare wraps!), a full dose of Ibuprofen and a few pieces of chocolate :teeth: DD had perked back up so I ran her back up to school. She really only missed an hour of math class. They have lunch then another 30 mins of class and she was back at the end of lunch. Hopefully her teacher will help her with what she missed. He is a pretty nice guy so I am sure he will.

So at 12:30 I was finally home to my cold coffee and time to figure out breakfast! I had some almonds in the car so figured I could skip to lunch.;) I made Turkey Meatballs and a Cucumber, Tomato, Avocado salad I love Avocado but am just okay with cucumbers and tomatoes and really wasn't sure if I would like them "plain" in this salad, and wasn't sure if I would like the balsamic. They are all things that I prefer added to other things and sort of blended with other flavors. Let me tell you, it was YUMMY! I had planned to make the Tzatziki sauce for the meatballs but it had to have 2 hours to sit and I wasn't waiting. The Meatballs were a little bland but I cut them up and mixed them with the salad and it was great all together. It really was all pretty quick and easy to make and would probably travel well if you are looking for things to take to work. Still have a bunch more of the meatball mixture I have to cook-- going to freeze them for another day.

I bought a pedometer and today is the first day to wear it. So far I am doing pretty good with all of the unexpected detours I had to make! I am at 4116 steps/ almost 2 miles. I wish that I had worn one when I was at my worst and could barely move off of the couch. Would be interesting to see exactly what the change is now.

Everyone have a happy and healthy day! :cheer2:

I'm still pages behind, but will eventually catch up--I'm just a little OCD sometimes!

Hope everybody is doing fine.

I had no excuses not to exercise yesterday, but I was a sloth. By the time I had time, I was fried and just read a few pages of dis and then went to bed. But today I have done well--so much easier when I don't work. Got up and went to my morning class at the Y. Came home, had a bowl of cereal, took DH to work (DSs had a 6 AM basketball workout) then went on my 3 mile walk with my girlfriend. Came home, let the dog (and me) rest for an hour then went for a run. It was just the short loop, but I told myself I was chasing my get up and go. Not sure I caught it, though! Lots to do today. I finally have the house to myself and DS1 is back from practice and in bed! He's been fighting a cold/bug for a couple days and I think it finally won. Poor baby. But I'm sure tomorrow he'll be fine no matter what because there's a game!

Yesterday I did my usual Wednesday "peek" at the scale and it was good. Not sure I believe it, so will wait for tomorrow's official weigh in.

Better go accomplish some things while DS1 is still in bed!

Drink your water and have an excellent day. :)

QOTD: I use every excuse possible. :rolleyes1 I am getting better about exercising now that my stomach isn't complaining. :yay:

Today, I went to the gym and attempted C25K. Unfortunately, my new iPod is being difficult and kept stopping. I kept going, but only made it through 15 minutes. I will try again. I promise.

Eating has been OP today. The thing is, I doubt it will stay that way. A group of my fellow college alums and I have to meet someone (I think it's only one person) new to the school and I'm fearing that it involves food. I didn't realize that until I reread an e-mail about it. The other thing: I think I'm supposed to bring the food. So, now I have to go back to the grocery store and try not to destroy the budget. LTS: Was it you who mentioned shopping at Wally World? I wish ours was closer, and even if it was, it's not a super one, so very few groceries. My mom tried to make my budget $20 not knowing that we needed other things than bananas. She gave me $50 and I destroyed it by almost $25 and I bought basic food. The only "splurge" was a case of crushed tomatoes (we use them to make sauce) that were on sale for almost 3 for the price of 1 can. I think everything I bought was on sale too. Oh well. It is what it is.

I better get going and try to figure out what to bring to this event. Maybe I can find some stuff at home.

Have a great day everyone!

CC

LTS: Was it you who mentioned shopping at Wally World? I wish ours was closer, and even if it was, it's not a super one, so very few groceries.

Yep, that was me  When we lived in Texas we shopped at Albertsons and loved it. But once we moved to Virginia we pretty much only have Wally world and higher priced options. We were in a small town where Walmart was the only place to shop for just about anything. Now we have lots of options but Walmart is really the only reasonably priced on. Food Lion, Kroger and Farm Fresh are all more expensive and we can't justify it for basics and big trips. We will do quick pick ups of a few things at Food Lion.

Hello Team Mickey!

Didnt get a chance to get online at all yesterday. Kids went back to school yesterday and Wed is always our crazy day!

Anyways, Tuesday night I did a moderate intensity core workout and advanced Yoga on Biggest Loser Wii. All in all, about an hour workout. Ate really good all day.

Yesterday I got the app My Fitness Pal (thank you to everyone who suggested it!!). Its so much easier to enter my foods right there on my phone instead of finding time to get online and enter everything (and trying to remember it all) on the USDA website. I still plan on using the USDA site too because I like seeing the energy balance.

Calories for yesterday, ate really well. Actually had bkfst (which is super rare and something I am trying to change). A couple pieces of fruit for snacks. A yummy turkey wrap w/ lots of veggies for lunch. A mexican recipe that I found online that was super yummy and healthy. Greek yogurt and a string cheese after workout.

Workout yesterday...somehow my Biggest Loser game decided to make me do the same core workout from Tuesday :confused3 and then I did a hard upper body workout with DH, so again, about an hour.

Tonight on the menu is Salmon w/ some asian spices, jasmine rice and green beans. Workout...I think I am doing lower body tonight. Cant remember what it says on the game.

Hope everyone has a good evening. Make smart choices :thumbsup2

(we are about 40 posts behind the Donald's and I am bored today so please excuse the excessive posting--it keeps me from eating!)

I finally tried putting sf jello powder in plain Greek yogurt. I added some Sugar Free Strawberry Jello powder to Fage 0%. At first I added just a tiny bit as the instructions I had read about suggested, mixed and tasted and :crazy2: :rotfl2: But I added a little more and a little more and it turned out not so bad-- a beautiful pink color! So maybe the part about "just a tiny big" needs to be revised!

I am trying to get over the texture. I looks like sour cream so it just seems weird. But I think it will be a good snack. It won't ever be something that I am craving or have just because I feel like it, but to help meet my weight loss goals I think I can handle it. I have some raspberry jello I will try next week.

Wonder how it work if I mixed it and then froze it?

Also, I meant to post this the other day:

I was watching a cooking show and got an idea to try with my salads. They put the dressing in a large bowl, put in the salad in on top and then toss it all together. So I tried it the other day and it worked perfectly! I was using a non creamy Greek dressing and measured out 2 T exactly, threw in my lettuce and all the toppings (except cheese and croutons, I like those on top of the dressing) and tossed/mixed until it was all coated. I am sure I used a lot less dressing than if I had poured it on top. Going to try it with Ranch next time, not sure if it will work as well with a thicker dressing.

Hello Team Mickey!!!

I'm a bit late but I'm joining in. I have lots of weight to lose but I'm going to start small and take it in small bits. I'm hoping to lose 10 pounds.

Jodi

Welcome Jodi!

I turned in my Win Measurements. I took them on Jan 1, so I figured I would turn them in.

I also need to take a pic of myself. I think that really helps. That way I can see the changes.

Today is a bad day. I have eaten fine, but I have a killer headache. grrrr. I am a headache person, so usually I can get rid of it but today is just too much. I also need to head to the grocery. At least the sun is out today.

Tomorrow morning I have a training session scheduled. That will insure I get there.

Then DH will make me go this weekend. So I am good for the weekend.

Have a Happy, Healthy Weekend!!!! :lovestruc

My husband and I want to move to Florida. In the summers we work at a local theme park, he is a supervisor and I am a lead. I have convinced him that he would enjoy working for the Mouse. And I realized, I couldn't do it now. I couldn't do the job I love because I let my weight get in the way. I'm going to print out more copies of those pictures. I'm going to put them on my mirror, on my pantry, on my fridge, in my classroom. Anywhere I might be tempted to fall back into old habits. I want to perform again so bad, and it will not happen until I lose the weight. The first pic is a different one that shows my face that i will use, the second one is one that is on my wall:

Friend of a Mouse, first here's a great big hug. You can and will build up your strength if you work at it a little each day and push yourself just a bit. Think POSITIVE!!! You Can DO IT if you really want it!!!! If you tell yourself, you can't, then you won't. Sorry, I hope I'm not being rude, that's not my intention.

Second, YOU WERE MICKEY? OMG. :confused3:confused3:confused3 I was sure that all the characters were actually real people in costume, but not Mickey and Minnie!! Oh no,no,no. They. Are. Real.
(for real, that must have been awesome. Mickey is my hero)

I'm too tired
It's too difficult for me
It's boring
I don't want people to see me
I don't know what I'm doing
All of the above
I don't make any of these excuses

I'm sorry that I haven't been able to do any replies today. Thank you to all of you who have! :flower3: I'll be back tomorrow with replies. Have a great evening!

Hard to admit, but I've used all of them at one time or another. Excuses are so much easier than doing the work. The incentive for me is the way I feel after a few weeks back at the gym. I have more energy, feel better, look better. Losing inches is just the icing on the cake.

Jo

Haven't had a chance to catch up. Just updated the January Exercise thread. Come on over! It's SLOW so far!

Also just posted my new WISH journal. Too much/many issues to go into here. If you're curious, I'm warning you, it's a novella.....such is my life nearly always!

I'm not optimistic about losing anything when I WI tomorrow, but I have NOT been OP at all. Too much stress and truly NO motivation, but slowly I'm working things out.

Hope everyone is doing better than I am! At some point I will either catch up or give up & just move forward on this. I didn't get measurements to WIN, but am planning to take some for my own soon. Gonna be kinda scary!!:scared1:

welcome! i hope you have a fabulous time at the tinkerbell half! you should go to the WISH meet up and meet the fabulous lisaH and lisaR (think she's on the donald team)! it's a great motivator to meet fellow WISHers.

oh and as the great john bingham says, "If you run, you are a runner. It doesn't matter how fast or how far. It doesn't matter if today is your first day or if you've been running for twenty years. There is no test to pass, no license to earn, no membership card to get. You just run."

This is a great quote, Nancy! :thumbsup2

Thanks for your nice words about coaching. :flower3:

And, Melinda, I totally agree with Nancy that you have to come to the WISH meet at the Tinker Bell! :tink:

Goooooodddddd Morrrrnnninggggg Team MICKEY! just checking in, hope everyone has a great day and stays on track today. I started out my morning with 2 miles on the treadmill in 26:53. I think my weekly treadmill goal will be 10 miles/wk for the month of January and at least 2 spin classes this month.

Sounds like you are off to a great start and don't worry that scale with catch up with all your efforts! ::yes::

Good Morning.. I'm dragging a little this morning, so I'm running late for work. Instead of racing to get dressed, I'm playing on the dis LOL LOL

Yep, that's what I do too! :lmao:

All of the above :guilty: The good news is, I walked twice yesterday! Only 20 minutes each time, but its way more than I've been doing! Baby steps!

That sounds like a lot more than baby steps to me! :thumbsup2

QOTD -- this answer changes over the course of my living healthy years, but nowadays it's that i'm too tired. i struggle with insomnia and it's hard for me to operate without good sleep, i've always been one to need sleep. I have steroid induced myopathy and have lost most all my strength and so my muscles tire out quickly when i workout. i'm just tired, tired, tired....sigh

Oh, Molli, insomnia is the worst! Take it easy on yourself.

** Friendly offer from Team Donald***

Hi Pamela! Nice to see you! :wave2:

Kristina, glad that you are feeling better today. :flower3:

Gretchen, be sure and check and see if Publix still has a frequent shopper card -- I remember WeGoShop used theirs for us when we were at WDW in 2009 and it saved us a tidy sum. :goodvibes

Liz, nice job getting back into the exercise routine. :thumbsup2

I have sent my WIN numbers, through a fog of jetlag, but it is DONE! I have started tracking my food, and have to send my weight in. I am on my weigh to do that. ;) Good luck today, everyone! (I'm off for a nap ;) as I catch up with the first BL show. )

Welcome home! Can't wait to hear more about your trip! :cool2:

Michelle, good job staying on track in the face of everything! :goodvibes

You lost me at the word math. . . :rolleyes1

Sorry! :rotfl2:

Thanks for the tip on the FB thing -- I just don't feel as confident about doing FB stuff as I do on the Disboards.

BRB with some more replies.

Hey Mickeys you're so fine! ::MickeyMo

It's been a lot of fun coaching this week. A big BL welcome to our new coach tomorrow, Nancy! :thumbsup2

Good luck with the weigh in tomorrow and a friendly reminder to be sure and put your team name in your PM to dvccruise76 when you report in.

I'm still pages behind, but will eventually catch up--I'm just a little OCD sometimes!

No worries! :goodvibes That's the nice thing about the Disboards all our words of wisdom are still here whenever you are!

QOTD: I use every excuse possible. :rolleyes1 I am getting better about exercising now that my stomach isn't complaining. :yay:

Princess Nancy, hope that you are feeling better soon! :flower3:

I say move forward and don't worry about catching up. This is a fine place to start, Julie!

Today I did 40 minutes of walking against the current in the river at our community center pool. I've never been so hot, tired and thirsty after a swim before. :rotfl: I'm hoping that it will help my legs when I have to run outside at the Tinker Bell at the end of the month. I have my last long run tomorrow morning. I'll check in with you after that.

Have a great evening all!

Okay well I laid back down around 11am and slept til 2. I woke up and my good mood had gone down the toilet. I talked with a few of my friends to try to lift my spirits. It helped some but not without shedding a few tears today.

Oh yeah and that healthy dinner I had planned? Yeah, it went out the window. Alan threw in a frozen pizza and when we ran up to Wally World I grabbed some Dr Pepper. I haven't had one in MONTHS.

Yes, it'll all get tracked and I still plan on working out. I'm just really tired of these up and down emotions. I want off this rollercoaster!

I'll definitely check into this!

I got through a good chunk of my to-do list today. We had a healthy-ish dinner of pork chops, green beans, boxed mashed potatoes, and I had a peach-mango applesauce for dessert. I was planning to Wii after dinner, but while Mom was cooking I went downstairs to work on the laundry and fell down the stairs. :headache: I hurt my back, my knees, and my arm, so now I'm sitting here with ice packs.:sad2:
