Help! I've never driven more than 6 hours on a road trip before. To drive to Disney is 18.5 hours. Do I just wing it like Kirt wants and stop when we peter out, or do I plan a specific stop? How long should I expect to be able to drive with the kids? 10-12 hours?

I'm hoping to leave about 5am on Saturday the 25th and we can't check in until Sunday...

Where do I stop in the panhandle area if we do stop? Is there a major city that I should look for? :confused3

Sorry I'm so confused!!! :lmao:

When we stop (our trip is anywhere from 17 - 20 hours depending on traffic and sometimes we just go straight through) we just drive until we don't ffel like driving anymore. Can't help you with hotel recommendation...sorry!

But generally, how long does Jimmy tolerate you driving each day? :confused3

Mr Diz is now on FB if anyone wants to request him as a friend.

Jo - does Jess want us to request her as friends? I see that several Fockers are her friends.

The 3 times we drove with him we drove straight through, but we left at night so he slept most of the trip.
I'm going to have to talk to Kirt about it, I guess. I hate to waste time during the day driving, but who wants to hang around on a Saturday, waiting to leave?

Mine are usually good for about 9 hours and then they get antsy. Of course, that's a drive northward, not a drive to Disney (where I'm sure they'd find a little extra patience for riding in the car ;) )

I'd have a rough plan for a stop 10 to 12 hours out, but I'd also include stops to stretch and switch seats if that's an option. Sometimes just a change of positioning in the car can get us an extra hour or two down the road. 18.5 is a LONG drive

I think I could teach shopping and saleology.

I'll teach accessorizing! :thumbsup2

 To everyone who's sick. Feel better soon!

:sunny: Here's some sun for those in the unbearable cold. It's cold here too. :sad2:

Janet, love the video! :cool1:

I started a photography class this morning, Two hours one day a week for 8 weeks. It's supposed to be photography I, but some of the students seem to know more than I do. There are only 17 of us, so it's very informal which is nice and the teacher will take questions whenever. I hope to get to Disney and try out what I've learned, which isn't much yet. ;)

V, you should go on a cruise! There are some really good deals and all food, coffee, and tea are included!

Slate, I finally got to check out the site you sent me. All I could do was  That salary scale scares the bejeesez out of me. Based on that to make his current salary Jim would have to be with your district for 31 years :faint:

Hello everyone!!

Been having some lazy days :yay: and didn't feel like being on the computer much, but I did check FB because S'late keeps passing drinks to me :p

Anyhoo I see many of the mommies need some   for the kiddos and school.

Kristel  on your furbaby

Ed: I'd love to see an Ip-Dip video :teeth:

Janet: Great video :thumbsup2 made me verklempt too. 2010 seems so far away.

:sunny: for those of you still freezing

V- I'm with Angela. Cruises all the way! :sail: If you can go with a friend it's even more fun because most cruise lines have like a kid club thing where you can drop off your kid and have some adult time. But of course if you don't want to do that there's plenty of things for kids/families to do. Royal Caribbean is very family friendly, but they're sometimes pricey. Carnival is usually the cheapest as well as Norwegian.

Also, I hit up Sanibel for my birthday weekend and here's a tip. Stay in Ft. Myers. It's like 10-15 min from Sanibel and the hotels are waaaay cheaper than on Sanibel. You just have to pay the toll to get onto Sanibel/Captiva Island, I forget how much it was though... Anyway, I found mine through Hotels.com (It was called Crestwood Suites) and it was like a mini studio for $79/night. Had a Queen bed, tv, full kitchen, huge bath, very nice and clean. There were many of restaurants around nearby and even a Wal-Mart and like 10 minutes from Sanibel.

I guess it's my turn for kids not having a good day at school. :sad2: . Nothing major. They called me to tell me that Jimmy was not having a good afternoon, not listening to the teacher, and not wanting to do what the rest of the class was doing. I don't know what to make of it since this was the FIRST call I have had since he has been in this school. Is he just having an off day? Is he not feeling well (he has a DR. appointment at 5:15 becasue he has had a stuffy noose and croupy cough the last couple of days):confused3 They let me talk to him on the phone and all he would tell me is that he wanted to go home with me:sad2: I told him that everybody has a job and he said I know mommy. Your job is to go to work, and daddy's job is to go towork, and my job is to go to school. I promise to be good. He went back to his classroom and I didn't get another phone call so I guess he was okay for the rest of the afternoon:confused3

He was going to be able to get dinner from Old McDonald's tonight since we are having beef stew and he doesn't like it, but we are not letting him do that now. I think it will be a carrot for having a good tomorrow and Friday. If I don't get any phone calls on those 2 days, then he can go to McDonald's on Friday.

I also have tickets for us to go to the Please Touch Museum on Saturday, so I may mention that to him too as an incentive???? What do you all think, too much bribery?

V's right, this parenting stuff stinks sometimes!

Z - PM your email addy so when I get the video fixed I can email it to you!

Angela - Your photography class sounds like fun. You will have to show us your pictures!:thumbsup2

We do 12 hrs, because it works for the kids and Bob! He doesn't like to drive for longer than that. I think it makes sense in your case too as you have 18.5 to do. It's always nicer to have the short day second. That way (when you're REALLY sick of driving) there isn't as much to do.

Bob and I honeymooned on Sanibel. Ah.....

Janet, that's enough consequence for a kid Jimmy's age. The museum is too far away (sat) to be a realistic punishment. He'll forget about the original transgression, I think.....JMHO.

He's probably just under the weather. Poor kiddo.

I had a ton of other quotes, but they're gone! Poof! :confused3
CE: glad you got a nap. Stay warm!
V: I've been watching Atlantis specials too!
Angela: hi!
Mr. T: Feel better soon, you have my sympathy!
Kate: I'd love to read that article too. Boys too often get the short end!
Dawn: Hi!

Sorry if I missed anyone. The sickness is beatin' my butt! Ugh! BUT, I had to log on to share something COOL with you!

We're so proud! He gets to represent the school in the district! (Now, I just have to find out WHEN and PRAY that it's not during our trip!)

MEL:banana:

:cheer2: Yay Gus!!!

I'm a Geography freak.

 Hope you get better!

Sanibel is beyoootiful, the water's very salty though.
I have pics if anyone wants to see ;)

CONGRATULATIONS GUS

Jo, thanks for the tip! :)
:confused3

They just announced budget cuts for next fiscal year and it's BAD. Like minimum 20% across the board bad. I should be fairly safe as the most tenured employee in my dept.... assuming my dept. isn't eliminated. Then, all bets would be off. :worried:
I'm sorry V hope you're not effected

I'm camped out in bed with the laptop.
Get better David

Jo - does Jess want us to request her as friends? I see that several Fockers are her friends.
I think only the ones she's met Mary, I told her not to bug people :rotfl2:

I started a photography class this morning, Two hours one day a week for 8 weeks.
Sounds great, have fun!

Also, I hit up Sanibel for my birthday weekend and here's a tip. Stay in Ft. Myers.
We went to Sanibel years ago, all I remember is the beach was all crushed shells not sand

I guess it's my turn for kids not having a good day at school. :sad2: .
 Hopefully it's because he's unwell

That's fantastic, congratulations Gus :yay:

Sorry you made me laugh with the water being salty :rotfl2: and of course we want to see photos!

We had the dentist today and all went well, I then had to help at Guides, they had a mock slumber party and all had tons of fun with silly games, hot chocolate, snacks, gossip, nail varnish etc all whilst dressed in their PJ's :goodvibes

First...

Secondly, I don't think of that as bribery. It's consequences. It's not like you're saying "if you be good for me in the grocery store and I'll get you a candy bar at the check out"...THAT is bribery to me. Saying he won't be able to do something because of misbehaving seems like cause and effect. However, I'm with Mel. Making statements about Saturday seems too far off for a little guy.

I'm going to work for 3 whole hours. But notice I changed my TFW title. :thumbsup2

:lmao: :lmao: :lmao:

So I am not wearing the air cast today and not sure if that is good or bad. I thought I would be a lot better, well, see what the Dr says tomorrow.

How ya holdin' up Mo? Glad you were able to ge tthe aair cast off today though!

It is currently -4 out, with wind chill we are -25. The sad thing is, it is DROPPING this afternoon drastically. I turned our heat down to 62 (to help the heat work better in this cold), which is still hard for it to keep up with.

And I thought we had it bad! It was 18 this morning when I took Linds to school, 13 when I picked her up and I think its still dropping. No negative numbers for us though...not until Friday.

When we stop (our trip is anywhere from 17 - 20 hours depending on traffic and sometimes we just go straight through) we just drive until we don't ffel like driving anymore. Can't help you with hotel recommendation...sorry!

Not much help on where to stay but I know my kids can do a min of about 10 hours in a car and max of about 12.

 Sounded like he was just having a bad day and maybe just doesn't feel good. As far as punishment I think what you have planned with McD's is a good idea. Like Mel said the museuem thing might be too much.

WTG Gus! That is awesome! :thumbsup2
