Awwwwwwww shucks. I glad others seem to like it also. I see larak does lol. I was thinking of doing the same thing and post it in my id. Of coarse with the same thing taken out lol. I only added disboards on the tag to let othere know about this great site. I have had a few people ask me about the landyards and LGMH's. They look at me weird mwhen I explain it to them. I just blow them off and say you wouldn't understand your not a diser or focker. LoL

Wow that was hard! I went away for 5 days and finally caught up and found everyone! I always suspected we would end up in "the community"! Glad to see that most people can navigate their way here no matter how many obstacles they put in our path. It keeps us FRESH!

Okay TFW members, I need to call on your parental wisdom here...

So, I wasn't even planning a trip to AK in May. Now my DS's been watching last year's WDW planning DVD endlessly and has announced, (among other things  ), that he wants to ride Dinosaur.

Me::scared1: "Dinosaur"? The one where TRex looks like he's coming right at you?

DS: Yes. I wanna ride Dinosaur.

Here's the thing - DS will be 5 in a few weeks. Yes, he meets the height requirement, but I'm frankly worried about the aftermath if I let him ride! He LOVES thrill rides - he's a coaster fanatic. But the 3D movies terrified him so much, I literally had to drag him, crying his little heart out, into Carousel of Progress, so great was his fear that something was going to "come out and get him". And he has nightmares fairly regularly from watching the POTC movies at Daddy's house. (Don't even get me started on that one.) Can you see why I hesitate?!

On the other hand, I know I need to sometimes trust him to know what he can and can't handle. He's never been wrong before. But I'm not so sure this is one of those times.

Can I get some opinions on the subject? Anyone gone through this personally?

V - we won't let DS6 ride Space Mountain, even though he meets the height requirement. We are afraid it is not safe for him and do not have the security of him sitting next to one of us. I will also only let him do Mission Space on the Green side.
Dinosaur is okay to ride, just scary for the kids. My DS gets scared a lot, but he still likes things that scare him. LOVES POTC movies. Some scenes scare him, but he watches it over and over again. He knows when to close his eyes.
He will ride Dinosaur, but he closes his eyes when he gets scared. Tell your DS it is scary, but remind him he can always close his eyes. He should be fine. Of course, if this stuff makes him have nightmares, I might would tell him to wait until next year.

V my DD's are still too scared to go on Dinosaur and they will be 9 & 11 this trip, E hated bugs life and refuses to do it ever again but they are wimps  But if Leo loves dinosaurs he may be OK, did you read Ellesters TR (I think) her guys all went on it and they were pretty young!

Our son is now 5 and we will be doing Diniosaur too. He said we was nervous. I showed him the clips on you tube and said look these ppl are fiding a ride and they all get off and goto the next ride. It's like tv is is not real we tell him. Now he is looking forward to it. We too will find out what he will be like after. He too is a thrill nut. I expect he will be fine. Have fun and let us know how it went.

Personally I'd say no. My youngest DS was a HUGE coaster fan and by the time we went to WDW in 2000 (when he was 5 1/2), had ridden several coasters that went upside down and pretty much had no fear of any ride. He'd ridden (and loved) TOT when he was 3 1/2 and also loved Space on that (2000) trip.

We did Dinosaur, never even considering that it would be a problem, and he ended up completely terrified. I tried to tell him to close his eyes (okay, I admit it, I've never done Dinosaur with my eyes open! :rotfl: ) but it was too late. The damage was done. He was shot for the day and it definitely put a damper on the trip.

We went back in 2005 (he was almost 10) and when we got Primeval Whirl FP's it gave us bonus ones for Dinosaur. I couldn't convince him to try it even then because he remembered his bad experience there. We've told him now that he IS riding it this summer (he'll be 12) and have him convinced ONLY because we read that Hodges from CSI (one of his favorite shows) is in the preshow!

Could we have handled it better? Prepared him beforehand? Of course! We had NO idea that he would react like that - especially since he'd loved TOT! However, personally, (after having gone through it), I wouldn't risk it. If he really wants to do it, I'd watch/tape some of these Disney specials and have him see as much of it as he can beforehand. I'd also do it late in the day so "just in case", it doesn't ruin the rest of the day!

Good luck!

Ok so this is my 2 cents...My DS4 will be 5 in June. He also LOVES thrill rides and the faster the better, he is also ok with 3-d movies, LOVES POTC. But really doesnt like the dark along with something maybe scary(he want to know whats coming in the dark on slow rides). Sitches Great Escape---HATES IT!!as you know you have a harness come over your shoulders so he said he felt scared and couldnt get on my lap, he could barely touch my leg because of the shoulder harness.HE FREAKED ON US!!this has never happened before. He is ok if he can hold onto me. DS4 also wants to ride Dinosaur(love dinos) and I told him it is very dark and scary and that the dinos try to get you. I showed him a you tube video of the ride and he heard how loud it was and saw how dark it was and still wants to ride. We are going to trust his judgement and do it.Right or wrong??I have no idea!! We told him it was all make believe and he could close his eyes and hold our hands if he got scared and he said "OK".
Has he been on the dino ride in Epcot I think its "Horizons". I think it was your TR that he didnt like the dark on that one and had to go out before getting on the ride. Maybe try that one again to gauge it and tell him its much scarier than that.
Good luck!!!

My DS (10) is afraid of everything...and I mean everything. But, I, not knowing what Dinosaur was...dragged him on the ride. He looooooved it. Hated Stitch...but loved Dinosaur. His mommy on the other hand...I think I got whiplash from Dinosaur. But, he is so looking forward to it this trip again...as long as we don't go near that Stitch ride at MK he says! So, I think that you have to know your DS...if he wants to do it, let him do it. And, you can hang onto him and he can comfort you through the scary parts.

Funniest thing is...when we came off the ride to get our pics...Jon was cheering and grinning from ear to ear! Me??? I had my head ducked and was holding onto my 9-year-old for dear life!

V, I can't say I've gone through this with Maddie yet. She is a big chicken and won't even ride BarnStormer! :lmao: HOWEVER, Evan is the daredevil. He's been on Barnstormer and Gadgets Go Coaster (Dland) and Matterhorn (Dland). He loves all 3 of those coasters. He really wants to ride EE, but I doubt he'll make the height cut off.

That said, I think Leo knows his limits and I truely believe he will be OK. Maybe show him the youtube footage and see what his reaction is. HTH! :goodvibes

My trick is to put my favorite threads in "favorites" so i don't loose them! Other that I depend on my fellow DISers to show me the way :goodvibes
