In other news... Leo wants to invite a friend over to play. Help!!! We've never done this before - are there rules of engagement?! (He's been in day care 8 hours a day since he was 6 months old, and is away from my house every other weekend, so he's never before wanted to see friends on weekends - he'd had enough all week.) I don't know the boy or his parents - I was planning to write a note saying "Hi, this is Leo's mom - Leo would like to invite J over to play one weekend afternoon. Can you give me a call at 123-4567 or email me at me@me to talk about arranging something?" Is that right? What do I do with them if he does come over - does a parent stay at this age (1st grade) - do I need to entertain her/him, too? I'm clueless, lol!
I can answer the playdate questions.
1. Your note is a great idea. ...
I never let my kids go play without a note or call and a few minutes "face time" with the parents.
2. Maybe you can meet on neutral ground for the first playdate? .....
3. You shouldn't need to entertain as much as "gently guide" them into appropriate things. I offer suggestions for things to do if they are getting rough or wild.
4. NUMBER ONE RULE. KEEP IT SHORT. REALLY. ONE HOUR. SERIOUSLY!!!
You can lengthen as they (and you) get more used to each other.
GOOD LUCK! (it really is a beautiful thing when they play ALONE and you can read a book!!! it will happen...)
