Any chance of visiting on a Wed. or Fri. evening? We did this and it was a GREAT time - no crowds, no lines!
Hmm, yes. I fly from Nice to Paris on Wed. and get in mid-afternoon. I'll be in Paris through Sunday, so... Thanks!

Can you believe we skipped Versailles?! What can I say - it was late Nov., it was snowing and we'd already taken the train to Chartres for a day. It's on my Must-See list for the next trip.
I did Versailles for a half-day in 1998. I liked it.

If you have any interest in modern art, I can't reccomend the
Pompidou Center enough. It ties with Notre Dame as my favorite sight. Also, Sainte Chapelle on Île de la Cité is fantastic - the most gorgeous stained glass. They hold organ and vocal concerts there, which would be a treat.
Excellent - I knew about St. Chapelle but didn't go last time. We did see Notre Dame.

Another recommendation, Rick Steves' walking tours. You don't need his books, though they're great, just
click here and look for the walks. We did the Historic Walk Parts 1 and 2, and the Marais Walk. Both were chock-full of both tourist sights and daily-life in Paris.
I saw his books but ended up buying Frommer's. They have some walking tours, too, but I'll check these out. D likes to walk.

If you have the time and are in the St. Germain des Pres neighborhood, check this
wine shop out. The owner is an American ex-pat and will expertly asssit with your selections and ship them. Great prices and WONDERFUL wines!
Thanks, I printed that! We LOVE wine.

Chic? Me?!

I'm feeling terminally suburban at the mo, so thanks for making me feel less like a Mom-blob! That said, I've never felt
less chic than when I was in Paris!

I think the oufits you posted are pefect - A trench coat or the like might be a good idea, and black pants are always in style. And a scarf, tied jauntily. Don't bring one - the fun is in buying one there.

If you can fit them, sneakers might be a good idea - especially if you'll be doing a lot of walking.
I'm so excited for you! Promise to say "Bonjour!" to Paris for me?
Yep, you're chic!

Thanks for the suggestions. I think I will throw in sneakers (I have a cute newish pair of Skecher pull-ons with rhinestones, even, so they're kind of fun!)
I will definitely say Bonjour for you!
Ok the clothes are Bale free...
Most likely I will keep these but you never know... I have been known to return things at a moments notice!!!
They look great!
I worked at my ds's school. Finished my year long project~ Scrapbooking a page a month for every student. Phewww.

There are 17 kids in his class x 10 months = 170 scrapbook pages completed!
Oh, dear lord. Nice work!
CE - you should try to go to Versailles, it really is unbelievable.
Oh and there is Napolean's tomb (if you are a history geek like me), not far from the Eiffel Tower, I am pretty sure we walked it. (Murph fell asleep there when she went to Europe after graduating college, she was hungover, anybody surprised, yeah didn't think so

)
Oh I know, V help me here, the artist area near Sacred Heart. I had a portrait done there when I was 16, Murph still has it hanging up in her place.
I liked Versailles in 1998. We should be staying right near Napolean's tomb area - Hotel d'Invalides? We are on the "side avenue" from the Eiffel Tower, and I believe those are both in the 7th.
And Lessa already answered, but I think you meant Montmarte as well. I had a charcoal portrait done there, myself. It didn't look much like me, but hey.
CE, have fun in Paris, baby!
Had my ortho appointment today, and it wasn't good. I'm a little blue right now. I have an another appointment tomorrow. Wholly crap braces are expensive!
Thanks, but I have a few days left to wait.
I'm sorry about the ortho - was it bad?
So, time just got shorter.... What is the issue with the grocery stores lately? I am so irritated. Food costs a fortune and this is the 2nd or 3rd thing I've had to return in recent history!
Ooh, yuck. Sorry.
ce--have fun in paris, when do you leave?
Thanks, not until Saturday evening, though I'm catching an airport shuttle around 3:00 p.m.
I hope your day gets better!

So, ugh. I cleaned up the porch yesterday for playgroup and the company, and whilst I was using the wand/rotator brush attachment, I guess I was having the main vacuum part (it's a cheap upright) on the cord. I nearly severed it, yup, broken vacuum.
I went to get inside and it suddenly downpoured - oh,no! people INSIDE for playgroup in my clean house!

Luckily, it passed fairly quickly and the kids were indeed outside most of the day.
Then, D called on his way home from his office/hangar (he'd gone in to do some stuff for the France trip) and asked if he needed to pick anything up. I'd been to the store but had forgotten a couple of things (even though they were on my list, d'oh!) and so I also said maybe he should call his dad and see if they needed anything in particular right away today when they get here.
Yeah, it was 5:30 and they were in Connecticut. Why they stop 2 hours away - and not late at night or anything - is beyond me. But they were having a hard time finding a hotel. So, for about a half hour we thought they'd be here last night.
And I had no vacuum. I was nearly done in here, but wanted to go over the couch and family room rug one more time.
Anyway, by the time D stopped, they had found a place (seriously probably only 1 1/2 hours away from here) so he went out and bought a vacuum.
Now, we have all hardwood and tile with just area rugs. So, although I hated our cheap vacuum, I didn't see the point in getting a new one, let alone a pricier one.
But I quick did some research and we ended up with a $300 Kenmore model.
I HAD vacuumed the family room rug Monday night.
We pulled, no joke, 2 full bins of hair and dirt out of just that one rug last night.
No wonder we have all been sneezy and such!
So, money well spent.
I've had fun this morning going back over everything. The other rugs weren't as bad (they're lower pile), but I still got a LOT more gunk out.
And I have no idea when to expect them. Since it's so close, I'd have thought I'd have heard by now, but I've not. And I have to go get the kids. And I'm DISing instead of doing something more to the house.
I'll be on less, but at least some, until I leave Saturday.
Have a great day!
