Oh, and Jen? The Gemzar was a good call. Grandpa, Grandma and Mom met with the oncologist yesterday. The radiologist had recommended 7-10 external radiations treatments followed by several internal radiation treatments with small radiated metal beads that are inserted fibroscopically, I guess.
The oncologist didn't think he was up for that much external radiation, so they are doing the Gemzar chemo with just the internal radiation.
They're doing 1 chemo/week for 2 weeks, with a week off, for a few cycles at least. The hardest part for them all is that he has to follow the chemo treatments with 3 days of injections (I don't know what they are) to keep the blood cell count up. Sadly, the doctors are a 45 minute drive from the house, and Mom has to drive them. So, they did the chemo yesterday, but that means she drives him up all the rest of the week. Poor grandpa - poor mom.
All this added to Mom having Dad's sister come to visit and Dad having his gall bladder removed 6/10 - and Mom's brother, who is somewhat useless with all this even though he lives ONE BLOCK from grandpa & grandma - moving to Missouri in a few weeks. Even though he's not sold his house. And neither he nor his wife have jobs in MO.

They want to be closer to their kids, which is fine, but he's been pretty "deadbeat" for the last 10 years or so, and I can't believe he's doing this NOW.
UGH.
