Hello! Despite my optimism yesterday, I DID come down with that stomach bug last night (!) and it meant I left the laptop open and took a nap for most of the day.... Sandy321 graciously offered to be our co-captain, and Leana (CDN GIRL EEYORE) offered to back us up when either one of us needs to step out for a bit....

I figured it would be easier for us to meet each other get some info (and let the other teams know who we are, too) if we put this in a separate thread because the updated rosters thread is getting fast quickly. Beyond just a bio, I thought we could give some info on our goals so we can better encourage each other.

First order of business is the name. So far, I pulled the following out of the other thread (let me know if I missed something):

Fantasyland Flyers
Main Street Maniacs
Goofy's Running Club
Hercules's Track Club
Captain Geech and the Shrimp Shack Shooters
Pluto's Pack

I propose another day or so of nominations and then we vote.

Second:

I volunteered to be captain so that I KNOW I'll have to follow through with my exercise ideas for the year. I never exercise. I did pilates and yoga (no cardio) 4 or 5 times a month for six months a couple years ago and felt great. Then the gym closed and I went back to being a sofa surfer. It's a new sofa--very comfy. But that doesn't mean my body should be shaped like it, I suppose.

I'm targeting the Donald for next January. i REALLY want to do the Minnie, but my DH is giving me a hard time about spending so much on Disney trips (we spent 20 days there last year over 3 separate trips--we have APs).

I walk now. Well, this week was my first week walking, and yesterday and today got interrupted so I'll go tomorrow (assuming my stomach is okay with me leaving the house).

I'm 36, married with a cute dog, and living here at the Jersey Shore. I teach during the day and fit in my work outs after school and on weekends. Because of my allergies and asthma, my doctor wants me exercising, but not outside in the cold or heat or when the pollen count or mold spore count is high... which pretty much leaves 3 days a year that I can be outside.

My personal goals are to start at about 10-12 miles a week and build to about 20. I'm also going to try crosstraining on a stationary bike and I'll try the elliptical, which I'm not looking forward to.

Okay, Team Five, your turn!

Hey team 5 et al!
I'm Lara (Larahb) and am relatively new to WISH, but did make it to the Pop meet before the marathon events a few weeks ago. It was wonderful to meet the people I did and I really have LOVED the support and encouragement/friendliness here!
I did the half marathon this year, but did it slowly and had fallen way out of training weeks before the event. My goal is to get back at it seriously and be healthier in general. I am registered for the Indy Mini (half marathon) in May in Indianapolis so I do have another solid goal/target.
In real life I am a physician assistant in internal medicine and would love to be a better role model for health for my patients. I USED to be a runner years ago and really WANT to be one again. I have restarted my routine and am doing some walk/jog DVDs and am eager to start the run/walk thing again outside as soon as the weather permits.
I think of the names to far, I like Main Street Maniacs but I would be happy with any name... I'm just glad to be on a team!

 TEAM 5 IS ALIVE :cool1:

Hi all!! I'm Sandy!! And I'm a Disneyholic!! I really wanted to go to Disney alone with dh and meet up with Disboard people!! - so dh challenged me - a 5K is just a day in the park for me, can I do a Half Marathon... hmm... well with the pedometer last year we did ten miles, so how hard can a half marathon be??? :faint:

I have 3 darling Children, and 1 future Daughter in law - my eldest is 22 and hard of hearing, so I stopped working full time to advocate for him, I lucked into the Districts Permanat Substitute Position - esp since I like the older grades - I work 3 times a week - or less, I have had some health challenges, that nearly swept me in my first Half!! My middle child is 19 (both boys go to Univ of IL) and glad we had a surprise dd he fits the middle child syndrome!! DD now 11 keeps us young, and wears us out - we feel very blessed!!

I also talk too much!! To see pictures click on my links of TR - my Pre trippie has pics of the older boys, and the Half Marathon Trip Report I'm still working on!!

I'm easy going, and I"m on the computer a lot - so I'll gladly help Ms Duckie as a co-captain if needs be!!

anyone know how to layer the photoshop for a team pic???

Hey Fellow Fivers! :yay:

I'm Allyson and can be long winded too so I'll try to be concise!

I'm 38, married 13+ years to my best friend Rick, we have 3 kids, Cassidy is 10, Kylie 8 and Jagger is 5. We live in MA. Rick is assistant director of a boarding school and I work part time as our senior pastor's assistant. I've been doing this for 8 years and I just do 15 hours a week and they let me do 99% of it from home, making my own hours. I go in to the office 2x a month. It has been a huge blessing being able to contribute income yet be home for the kids too. I couldn't ask for a more supportive, flexible workplace.

I have never been much of an exerciser. At all. I have had fits and starts of trying but lose interest pretty quickly. I however LOVE all things Disney, like most of you I am sure. So our friends challenged us to do a race together (easy for them, they have done triathalons, she has done the Boston Marathon) and Rick and I, well he's about as active as I am. We do a lot of this :happytv: and this :surfweb:, not so much this :yay: :yay:

So I said I would do it if it were Disney. Sure they said and that was that. We all registered for the 2009 Half on the day it opened up, mostly so Rick and I wouldn't change our minds!

And being a DISer I scrolled down and found the WISH boards. What a welcoming, really encouraging place!

So since Jan 1 I have been using our elliptical glider. It is the most consistantly I think I have ever exercised. Yesterday I hit the pavement for the first time using the Couch to 5K plan and it felt really good! On Thursday I am going to get fitted and buy a pair of real running shoes!

If I had to choose just one name from that list it would be Pluto's Pack, I'm partial to Pluto!

Allyson

Pluto works for me -

that really long name is cute, but I cant remember it!!

DH Tim is on our team, and he'll pull his weight, but after my killer 2 miles today :sad2: if not for the team, I'd so want to opt out - just sit down and quit. Yes, sadly I'm a quitter, and well, the only thing that keeps me going is being on a team.... and knowing for me the finish line is Jan '09 ds wedding. My first born son is getting married - so we'll also plan on the marathon 2010 - and ds and fdil want to join us!!

Tim did mention that he doesnt want to "carry my rear" and I said "huh? what are you talking about" he says "the team you signed me up for - you need to put in your hours and miles" Ok then!! Dh is definately on board!

So DH is Tim, we're in our mid or late 40s (depends on when I stopped having birthdays! our dd is 11 we're NOT old, and we're NOT getting older!!) He is a software design engineer - that's computer geek to most of us!! (he's quite proud to work on a design that gives nitro to preemies that can be transported at the right level so those babies wont go deaf from too much!)

Tim has run 5 or 6 marathons, hand fulls of 5K and Halfs, and he really likes running - and biking - when its warm out he'll bike to work... for FUN!! He also likes climbing mountains, and backpacking. He climbed Mt Ranier and wants to do another mountain - this summer. so he will definately add miles to the team!!

We also are Boy Scouters - dh was Scoutmaster for 7 years, now he trains adult leaders. Again, miles!! Both our boys are Eagle Scouts, they worked very hard to achieve that, and we're proud parents!!

also.

I talk too much!!

in case you hadnt noticed!! ;)

Thank goodness there are more chatters on the team. Otherwise I'd end up talking to myself.... That would be embarrassing.

DH is going to bike from New Jersey to Washington, DC the week after the Minnie. He's a natural athlete (!) but I did mention to him today that he might want to train a little. ;) So we won't be training together much because I'm so slow, but perhaps we can walk the dog on one of the couple nice days in the spring before it's too polleny outside.

Sounds like we've got a good team so far.

The rest of team five--come out, come out, wherever you are!

Duckie,
Stomach bug, ugh. Is there anything worse? I hope you are feeling better today!

Allyson

I think I'm feeling better... I thought I had some miso soup to eat now, but I don't.... I ate some Newman's Own cookies this afternoon (organic ingredients, practically health food :rolleyes1 ).

It's yucky, but I'm getting through it....

Thanks!

Duckie - :rotfl2: Way to take one for the team!! :thumbsup2

I took that echnecia homeopathic healthfood stuff it seemed to help - I only had a fever on Friday!! My nose isnt running today (must've caught it fast!)

Its a long time till spring!! I figure we'll get lots of snow in 2 1/2 weeks - we usally get a blizzard around Valentine's Day!!

Hi team 5:flower3:

I might as well introduce myself to since I'll be riding herd over all the teams.

My name is Dave and I'm a 56 year old racewalker. I'm retired from the Air Force. For most of my military career I helped people get and stay in shape. During the last nine years of my watch I was the First Sgt of a large hospital group, one of my responsibilities was the fitness of the troops on the base. I worked with the Docs, PTs and Diet folks to develop and impliment fitness programs.

Last year I had the honor of representing my home state, Kentucky, in the National Senior Olympics. I placed 8th in the 5K and 9th in the 1500m.

I have been with the WISH group for a little over a year. During that time I've come to know a lot of the team well. I'm amazed at the smarts and the goodness of the WISHers.

My lady Erica and I walk the Disney races together. (I compete locally in races of 10K or less but I'm a short distance racer.) We have done all three of the races, starting with the half in 2006, the full in 2007 and the Goofy in 2008. Next year we are doing the Marathon only and cheering for the half.

I want to wish y'all good luck and lots of healthy, injury free training. There are lots of good experienced runners and walkers on the WISH so plenty opf help is available when you have questions.

Pluto's Pack

Hello team 5!

First and foremost I love the sound of Pluto's Pack for our team name. That's my vote!

About me....my name is Leana and I'm a single, 29 year old engineer living in Calgary, Alberta, Canada. I found the DISboards almost a year ago when I was looking for information on the Minnie Marathon. I got into racing just before my last year of university, about 8 years ago. I loved the racing aspect, but it took me a little longer to love running though. I ran off and on for about a year and when school finished I moved to Texas to work in the oilfield and I wound up leading a pretty sedentary lifestyle. About two years ago I thought I'd give the running thing a go again and wound up signing up for the Nike Women's Marathon in San Francisco. About two months into training I developed a stress fracture so I was out of the race. :sad2:

I moved back to Canada a year and a half ago, and let me tell you, Calgary is a pretty active city. They have miles and miles of dedicated bike paths so there are great places to get out for runs, plus lots of races here as well. I found my running legs again and decided to enter the Goofy for 2008. 2007 turned out to be one crazy racing year as I completed 13 races. I finally PR'd a 10K and went sub 60:00 (I ran a 57:56 at the Ryka Iron Girl race in Seattle). I completed two half marathons - one in Calgary and the Nike Women's half in San Francisco. Finishing the Goofy this month was one amazing highlight as well!

As for this year - well, right now I'm enjoying a little time off after finishing the Goofy. I'll get back into it soon though. One of my goals is to keep my fitness level and mileage base where I could run a half marathon at the drop of a hat. I have a few smaller races planned, but the big ones for this year include:
- Minnie Marathon weekend (both the 5K and the 15K)
- Footstock half marathon in Cochrane, AB in June
- maybe the Scotiabank Vancouver half in June
- a full at the Marathon Des Deux Rives in Quebec City in August
- Mickey 2009 in January!

Apparently I can chat a lot too. Looking forward to getting to know you team!!

 Leanna, Duckie, Allyson

BTW, I may want to change my vote... to a Hercules Team...

there are several more that are more in the spirit of the TEAM concept, I mean after all he was an Olympiad!!

Checking in. I've alive, but I was out of town for a few days. I'll post back after I get some sleep. Go team 5!!! :cheer2:

:cheer2:

Hey All...I LOVE these bios...what a great way for us to get to know each other. I LOVE IT.

I am 46 and NOW living in SC after living 24 years in OH and 22 in PA. DH was transferred (our choice) to the Carolinas where we had planned to go upon retirement. So...we came a little sooner and brought a paycheck. We worked at the same company, however, my customer service job did not transfer. Oh well...I am now unemployed, cooking dinner, and keeping my house clean. We have two children, both attending University of Toledo. Yah...we literally sent them off to college last year and moved away (August 30). DS who is also on this team (UTguitarist27) is a Junior and DD is a Sophomore.

I was NEVER a runner EVER. However, DH and DS did the 2007 Donald Half - I watched from MK and EPCOT. They finished and I decided I wanted to do it in 07. I started to train for the 5K (LaSalle Penquin Race) in Columbus, OH - next to the Flying Pig in Cincinnati, OH (5K), then a local YMCA race (10K) - Charlotte Hit the Brix (10K) - Inaugural TOT (13K) all to prepare for my first half marathon at Disney 08. It's was like Christmas Eve all over again the night before the Half and now hard to believe I completed 13.1 miles (3:09 hours) when only just a year ago I never had run even a mile. I am a run/walker. It's been an amazing journey but the best part of all is the most wonderful people I/we have met through W.I.S.H.

I am going DONALD in 09 with DS and DD (her first Disney Race) and DH (oh yah he went Goofy again!)

Sorry so long-winded - great to meet you all and looking forward to training together!

Glad to meet you Missy -

I just Pm'd your son, well, before I knew he was your son that is!!! He has a good idea on the team name -

I have a son that should graduate in May, History major, and a son who is a sophomore Music Major -

That's great that you were able to retire to Carolina with a job!!! Must be hard to be away from the kids - its a long way for them to come home!! Altho for ours, they're never home much when they are "here"!!

Hi Sandy! Very nice to meet you. I think this challenge sounds great...I will take any and all motivation to keep up with the training. But, I think I will need it most in December (my training fell off in December and I ate too many cookies! Go figure the Disney races are after the Holidays!)

My son loves HISTORY and also loves MUSIC...perhaps our DS-s-s will meet at the Disney Half.

Awesome!

Only if they sign on for 2010! ;) (If you click on my Face your Fears link in my siggy, it actually scares you with their picture!! OK, now its not taking me to that post - #4 It was Mom's Weekend and they kindly invited me down to visit! )

Dont get me started on Christmas Cookies!! It was the weather that was the problem in December, yeah, that's it... weather!! :rolleyes1

Hi, my name is Stephen and I'm 22 years old. I am new to posting on the boards but my dad (DennyHa) has been posting for awhile. My mom (MissyHa) is new to posting here and also happens to be on our team. I completed the 2007 Donald and only made it half way through the 2008 Donald before my knee started hurting. My goal for this year is to complete the 2009 Donald comfortably and to lose a couple pounds (college has taken its toll). My plan is to do a lot of biking during winter months because I can do that inside. When it starts getting nice, I'll start cross-training with biking and running. Other than cardio I'll try to hit the gym for weight training but it might not last since I have to get up at 6 AM :scared1: if I don't want to wait for any of the machines.

I am impartial to the team name. I didn't see any names on the main thread for us so I thought of Team Epcot to jump start ideas (I didn't know this thread was going on), but instead of Epcot standing for Experimental Prototype Community Of Tomorrow, it would stand for Endurance, Persistence and Confidence Obtained through Training. I made a picture and emailed it to Sandy321 to post on here because I'm not allowed yet. I also like the idea of a Hercules themed team since that is my favorite Disney animated film. Maybe a Herc's Heros or something. What the team votes on will be fine with me.

I look forward to getting to know everyone and celebrating a win on Dec. 31 :woohoo: .
