I did great at the concert we volunteered at last night. Instead of the really wonderful buffet they had in the past we got really nasty crappy "box lunch" of a warm soggy turkey wrap

and a bag of chips. Not even a crappy cookie thrown in. And I am really glad I brought my own water because they ran out of the promised drinks not long after we got there so we never got any water or soda. I did end up buying sodas (and dessert for the girls) at the concession stand so they could have something to drink and I had a diet coke. I ate about 1/4 of the wrap after I cut off the huge amount of extra tortilla and then decided the calories (and possible food poisoning) weren't worth it. I did eat the chips because I was hungry. I had brought a small snack so I also had some peanuts and some apple slices with cheese. Great meal for an 8 hour event.
Not sure if we will volunteer again next year. The issues with the food and drinks were just a small part of the larger problems they had with overall organization of the entire event and really not managing the volunteers well this year. They had too many and not enough for them to do, and they had absolutely no instructions for us. We were told by a very frantic contact person where to go and the basics "sell raffle tickets, take door tickets, stand at this table" etc but no specifics that we really needed to know, and there was no one to ask questions to and when I tried to ask I got brushed off. It is very embarrassing to be put in the position of being a main point of contact with the public attending and not be able to answer any of their basic questions-- and if I had paid the money they did to attend I would have been pissed because "no one knew what was going on".
I was also a bit put out by the fact that not one person with the organization (it is a non profit that does some great things) bothered to even acknowledge us, much less maybe a thank you this year. I don't volunteer to get a thank you but when the organization director (CEO) repeatedly walks by you and 4 young ladies that have given up their Sat. night to help your organization you would think that he could at least smile at you, maybe a simple hello or "how are you?" or a "thanks for being here" instead of pretending you don't exist. I did see that he had time to talk to the Hooters girls that were there in their "uniforms" to help out for about an hour

. I have organized many things and have always made sure to personally thank every one of my volunteers and be sure that they are being taken care of, either by myself or a person designated to do that, and that they all know clearly what to do and have a job. We do get to see the concert for free so I will let DD decide if she wants to go next year (not music I enjoy so I stay outside the performance area). She and her friend really loved seeing the concert so that did make it all worthwhile.
Going Ice Skating with the family and DD's girl scout troop tonight. Well they skate, I watch. I am considering dropping them off and then running to the gym for an hour. Have to see what else is going on. I may go and be the photographer.

What’s really fun is when you forget a clean bra. I can go sans underwear no problem, I’ll wear dirty socks— but there’s no way I’m putting a sweaty bra back on… It helped me to organize stuff like you would pack a suitcase-moisturizer, shampoo, shaver, deodorant all go in the same Ziploc bag All those hotel moisturizers and shampoos that hang out in the bathroom drawers finally come in handy. Be sure and bring extra batteries for your ipod if you have the kind that needs them.
Yep, the clean bra was one of the things that I went back for! Couldn't do the no undies thing, that is one thing I just have to have so I bring a clean pair of those too Since I am at a no frills place I have to bring my own towels and everything which made me look like I had packed a suitcase! But I have actually ended up just coming home and not showering there. I think I will keep 2 bags packed, the shower there bag and the run over and come right home bag.
I was glad I had grabbed my Ipod because I planned to watch the TV's but the first bike I got on the TV sound thing wasn't working at all so I switched and the 2nd kept cutting in and out so I have up and used my Ipod. Mental note now to avoid both of those bikes!
Well I CAN contribute a 5.2 pound loss over the week - can't promise for next week at the rate I'm going

. .
That is an absolutely awesome loss!
Posted another small loss this week. Heading to the gym for an hour of spin class. Really need it after the work week - can you say HECTIC!?!?

Great job!
1) Have a glass of milk or a dairy substitute.
2) Read something you find interesting and/or enjoyable for about 10 minutes.
3) Wear something special.
I do that with the DIS every day!
Not only did I wear something special I went out and bought it! It was just a blue v neck tshirt but it is special because it was a size smaller than I have been buying and didn't look like a tent on me!
Down one pound.
And I totally admit that I could work a LOT harder.

Any loss is great. And 1-2 pounds a week is very healthy so that one pound is a sign that you are doing things right.
Glad that you had a good workout!

Your body gets stronger while is repairs itself during rest -- sounds like you are doing a great job of mixing things up!
The trainer I met with the first day really emphasized the need for rest. He said the 3 keys are Exercise, Nutrition and Rest. He suggested that I only go 3 days a week and have a day of rest between each one. He made me a schedule of M: Cardio/Upperbody, W: Cardio/lower body F: Cardo only. I think it is a nice conservative program for a beginner that is in really bad shape and doesn't like to workout. I really appreciated that he was very sensitive to my needs. I think a lot of trainers would have suggested a much more time and labor intensive program. I will try to go as often as I can with a goal of 3x per week.
QUOTD: Sat /19
What's your favorite music to work out to?
So funny you should ask that because I was just thinking about posting about work out music after listening to my Ipod while working out on Friday.
I
I'm like you, I have a very eclectic mix for my workouts.
I had no idea how eclectic I am! I don't really use my Ipod much, mostly to listen to the DIS Podcasts and I haven't even done that in a really long time. So I set my Ipod to shuffle and got busy pedaling. Started off with a song from Footloose, then came an Inspirational Worship song. The next thing that came up was the Water Buffalo song from Silly Songs with Larry (Veggie Tales)!

I totally forgot that I had that on there! Then came another 80's song and after that Jiminy Cricket doing "I'm No Fool" and ended with another 2 80's songs. I may need to check my Ipod albums and see what other surprising things I have on there!
. That said, I DID NOT eat the pizza I brought home for DD. Instead I made my own "light" pizza with a 60 calorie pita pocket for the crust, a wedge of LC cheese, a large quantity of sauteed veggies and some sundried tomatoes and then a carefully measured portion of reduced fat shredded cheese. It was very satisfying. I did have one bite of DD's pizza, but was glad I had decided not to indulge... it wasn't worth it. Not eating the pizza was a bigger victory than it appears...... it was late (about 8:45 pm) and I was tired and hungry. That is a really tricky time for me. The pizza smelled SO GOOD... but I stuck firm and I am proud of myself.

Way to resist and come up with a great solution! Your pizza sounds wonderful.

I actually saw a recipe for one on a sandwich thin with mushrooms and spinach (my favorites) and ricotta the other day that I really want to try. But now I can't remember where I saw it

Going to have to check my history and see if I can figure it out!
Why ohhh why cant I seem to stop eating junk! I certainly wasnt the winner this week! but I am ok with that...try again next week to have a better week
Out, out darn Junk Food! Clear it out of the house and find other places to be when it is around outside of the house.
First thanks to all of you who have sent PD to get the theater done. Yesterday they finished the carpeting. the seats should go in this Thursday and Friday. The lights are up and the speakers are up. It is looking better and better.
I spent 8 hours there yesterday. It is going to be a long 2 weeks. Lots to do. the only disappointing part of yesterday was that only one parent showed up to help. We think Saturday is not a great day for volunteers. we are hoping that Sunday will be better.
Happy to hear that it looks like things are coming together. I can only imagine how uneasy it must feel not to have the theater ready. I would be a panic filled wreck! Sorry to hear about the lack of volunteers. That really stinks. I hope today was better.
One week from today is the Princess! Some of our group will be done by now and some of us (like me) will still be out there. Weather is looking pretty nice for us.
Have a great day
DONALDS!

Good luck to all of those running the Princess! We want to see lots of photos when you get back!

LTS- Why weren't you in my head the other night when I shared a Molten chocolate Lava cake at chilis with my ds??????
That was probably the night I was wallowing in self pity with a box of GS cookies.
Pjlla:
. I made some cream of broccoli last week- it was pretty good
Do you have a good low fat/cal recipe for cream of broccoli soup? I would love to find one for my family.
Todays quotd is a simple one-- folllow up to Mikamah--There's a lot of people on here in the process of losing weight who wouldn't want to spend a lot on their suits this summer if the still have a way to go. Where do you buy yours?
I am fortunate (maybe?) that I think I actually have in my closet, swim suits that will work for the next year and probably more. Some of them are still brand new. We used to live near a place that is one of the US swim suit manufacturers and they had an outlet attached to their warehouse. Incredible prices on suits, some were seconds but most really didn't seem to have problems. Used to get the girls Disney suits there! I bought several for myself in the style I like before we moved and they go down about 3-4 sizes from where I am.
