TEAM DONALD--Biggest Loser 11 Spring Team Challenge

.....now, anyone want to discuss Bunions, my other foot nemesis ???

Ugh.
I've been trying to do my time on the treadmill, and my foot is screaming by the end.
I like the treadmill more than the bike or elliptical,, so I have just been dealing with it.
I've tried the toe spacer thing at night. Helps a little, not too much.
Does anyone have anything that has helped, short of the surgery?
My mom had the surgery, so I am sure that is coming one day, I would like to put it off as long as posisble.

For the QOTD, I have recently started eating frozen bananas. I had some going bad too quickly, so I peeled them, put in a zip lock back, and tossed them in the freezer. Now I take one out, and let sit for a few minutes. In my head, I can think of it as ice cream.

I also love air popped pop corn, but I probably put too much salt on it

The other days QOTD, my last name is collins, and it is a take off of the Steve Austin "Austin316" thing. Yeah, I used to watch pro wrestling.
I usually hang around the poscast boards. Love the podcast crew! Mostly lurking on the other boards when I am planning a trip. I guess I have been here since 2000,, thats what it says my join date is.

1/26/11 Wednesday QOTD: What is your favorite healthy snack?

Air popped popcorn. The calories are very low, even after I melt 1 tablespoon of butter in the microwave and pour it over it. If you really want to cut the calories over it, you can use a short spray of butter flavored cooking spray on it and then salt it.

Fruit. Apples (Gala, or Pink Lady, please. Red Delicious are mushy) or a navel orange or berries, if they're available.

Yoplait fruit yogurt.

Green Giant "Healthy Weight" vegetables. It's edamame, black beans, carrots and sweat pea pods in butter.

QOTD-Tuesday 1/25/11-What is the meaning of your Disboard name? How long have you been on the disboards, how did you start coming here, and where else on the boards do you visit?

My disboard name is a name I have been using online for years. When we first got internet in our house back in 2001 my best friend suggested charming because I loved the TV show Charmed. 23 is my favorite number. I have been on the disboards since Summer of 2009 and I found the site when looking for tips for our September of 2009 trip. Without the boards I would have had no idea about free dining. I also visit the community and budget boards daily.

1/26/11 Wednesday QOTD: What is your favorite healthy snack?

My favorite healthy snack is fresh fruit, especially grapes and apples. If I was allowed to I could eat my weight in both of those.

Yesterday was a good day. I helped my mom clean out her closet which was a work out. I also walked a little.

:wave2: Good Afternoon

I came down the stairs this morning like this:
:tiptoe:Ow,:tiptoe: Ow,:tiptoe: Ow,:tiptoe: Ow,:tiptoe: Ow,:tiptoe: Ow. . .
But I got on that floor and did it all again. I did do the wall pushups and that was so much better. I was actually able to do more and do it better that way. Thanks for that suggestion! The next few days may be difficult to exercise. I may have to be out of the house early tomorrow and the kids are out of school early, off from school on Friday and of course the weekend. I really, really, really don't want to do this in front of them. DD15 probably WOULD tape it for you tube! I may hide in the bedroom and do some crunches and strength exercises.

I went to the dr yesterday since my stomach has been acting up the last 2 weeks. He said that it is probably trying to adjust to a new way of eating. All those big servings and lots of pasta and potatoes have been a good buffer for stomach acid and now that isn't there. But I am giving it stuff harder to digest and gas producing so things are all :upsidedow . Put me on Prilosec for 6 weeks to see if that helps. My IBS is also not really happy with me the last few days. Why does my body have to make it so difficult to do what is right for it?

1/26/11 Wednesday QOTD: What is your favorite healthy snack?

That is a hard one. I like apple and cheddar cheese slices, banana and pb, celery and pb and cottage cheese and either peaches or pineapple. I also like soup or a protein shake.

After not having regular 'net at home all day what a fun surprise :) Now just got to keep it up...
:cheer2: Way to go Emily!!! :cheer2:

When I was at my worst, my podiatrist sold me a night boot. It was VERY expensive, like about $245 but insurance paid for it. Well, I never could wear it! Too uncomfortable for me. I started improving alot about the same time and never needed it since. I'm keeping it just in case though. Podiatrist also gave me an RX for some topical anti-inflammatory cream, Voltaren, also VERY expensive and I had to apply it 4 times a day but it was FANTASTIC! After a month or two of that, my symptoms decreased dramatically and I stopped using it.

I have Voltaren but it is for my hip. I should probably try it on my feet to. Where did you apply it to? The heel or the arch?
FIT FLOPS!!!
OMG, I forgot about them - they are GREAT!!! I got mine last Summer when I was in the US on clearance at Dick's and them wore them every day for 10 days on our Med cruise. We walked a ton and I had no pain at all! And, they are so cute! Mine are brown with a shiny coppery thing between the toes and I want to say I paid about $15.
I got the Mickey ones that are the same colors as that. They are so stinkin cute and I was so surprised at how comfortable.

Well, I had a very good day Monday. Hubby came home and had gotten a significant raise and a change in job title, So, we decided to go to Paris on the weekend of our birthdays (Feb 18th-20th).
:woohoo: Congratulations on the raise and Paris Trip.

I am having a rough week so I am not looking forward to weighing in at Weight watchers on Thursday. I have been doing walking on the treadmill, but only 25 minutes right now.
25 minutes is better than 0 minutes! :cheer2: Don't worry about how the past week has been, focus on today and tomorrow and how you can make them work. :hug:Sorry things are rough.

Sorry I stole your questions. What else were you thinking of for questions? I need 3 more.:rotfl2:
:rotfl2:
Only other one so far: What DISboards theme or "skin" do you use? (the colors that your pages are)

LOL they showed a marquee on the news tonight from a local Christian School. It said Whoever is praying for snow, please stop!
:lmao::rotfl2:

I'm aiming for the boot myself. My mom got one for 6 weeks and she is completely pain free now. I do not want the cortisone injections!!
I do have a sorta boot from Target and while I don't wake up pain free it is definitely reduced. I have found that the worst time for pain is when I sit down with DD at night to cuddle and watch TV. After being up and moving all day it just seizes up if I sit for more then 15 minutes. I've started stretching while I sit and right before I get up.
You may be able to get a boot at a medical supply store. Actually I needed another CamWalker so I just asked for one on my local Freecycle list and got about 5 offers. You wouldn't really want to wear the CamWalker at night unless you covered it with a pillowcase since it is usually worn during the day. But if you put a boot on when you sit down to watch TV it would help when you get up. Until then get a golf ball and put it under your foot and do circles with it under your arch with a fair amount of pressure. Also my dr had me get a foot massager with heat to use when I am sitting. Not the kind that just vibrates, one that can actually massage the bottom of your foot.
OMG!!! I made top ten!! Woohoo!! That was the motivation I needed!!
Me too!:woohoo::cheer2:

I think there is a special place in heaven for Moms of teenage girls. And it certainly makes me appreciate what I put my Mom through! I should call her and thank her for not KILLING me when I was a teen! :lmao:
If I try to complain/vent to my mom about something my girls are doing she just :rotfl: . :headache: She is really enjoying the paybacks.:rolleyes1

Yesterday was a good day. I helped my mom clean out her closet which was a work out. I also walked a little.

Ok-- I have given up entirely on 'catching up' It is just too busy here and I haven't had that kind of time...(I'm on pg 60 if that gives you any idea)

DIS name--50sjayne--one of my favorites -Jayne Mansfield. I used it on other message boards and when I first started going to Disney related boards I would get them all mixed up so I used the same name and password on all.

Favorite healthy snack--triscuits or wheat thins with cheese and wine or chips with guacamole.
I like fruit too-- I love having kiwi with a little ginger syrup after work but peeling them is kind of a pain. Thanks for letting me steal your post.
Well I've decided to go back on the Pill. Tired of living dangerously--even at 42 I know there's a chance and I'm tired of the hassle of being careful lol. There was a study lately done with monkeys that said they actually lost weight when put on the pill-- I dunno though becuase for me it's all about increased appetite and I'm pretty sure their temptation levels are different than ours...I actually need to gain a few pounds though so this'll be fine. I don't want to gain too much though or too much too soon so staying here is good.
I think most women gain weight on the pill...what's your experience?

well my plans changed a bunch since this morning.

I got to Home Depot when the schools started calling to tell me they canceled. So I pitched the ice melt in my car quick (got a workout lifting 2 50lb bags) and took off to get kids. The roads got bad, fast.

Rounded them all up and we are now all tucked in at home to wait out yet another storm.
I need to go walk but honestly the thought of going down to the basement to use the treadmill is not appealing. I'm feeling shut in, I need to be outside.
Guess I need to invest in cross country skis or snow shoes!!

Hello all, had a nice day today. Yoga this morning, Shred in the afternoon (confession: was interrupted by a phone call with about 6 minutes to go and didn't finish!) and then went to a surprise 40th bday party for a friend's husband at a restaurant. It was cute, he tapped the keg with an actual mallet and tap and had to wear a leather apron! I was not good at the party, had 3 beers, (pork) ribs w/sauce and a baked potato and a slice of carrot cake! Oh well, I made the decision I was going to enjoy the food tonight and I ate lightly the rest of the day. Stupid thing I did was to come home and pop a few Skittles in my mouth (WHY???) This broke off some MORE of my tooth and basically only the filling and the front part are still there. I will definitely be calling the dentist tomorrow. I have not been to the dentist here yet but I have heard they are expensive. I hope they have the same type of numbing/anastethics that I am used to !!!:goodvibes

CONGRATS!!!!!!! :cool1::banana::yay::woohoo: to all the biggest losers. I was hoping to be on the list this week but not yet.....I WILL make it on there one of these weeks;)

Busy weekend with a sick DS. Very unusual for him. Yesterday was the first time he has been out sick from school since he was in 1st grade. He is now in 8th.

Wow, that is unusual. My son is also in 8th grade and rarely sick but usually has atleast a day or two out every year. He went one year with perfect attendance in 5th grade. When we moved here last year he caught swine flu and had to stay out a week, mandatory by the school. He had a very mild case and it was a LONG week!;) I hope your son is feeling better!

Free for all, especially the adult beverages!!!
:drinking1

Hi! I am new here!! And while I read through a bunch of threads today it took me until now to realize what QOTD meant I look forward to being a BIG LOSER along with all of the rest of you!!!
:welcome: TWINS!! What a blessing!

I am on my third set of bone spurs in both feet, I have flat feet, arthritis in the ankles and at one point tendinitis in the left ankle because of a bunion. Once the bunion was removed the tendinitis did go away. I very rarely go our without my sneakers on. I wear them every day along with my orthotics. I even found a sandle that I can wear them in. I was pretty lucky in the bunion surgery. I was a fairly fast healer. I was only on crutches for about 4 days before I switched to a cane. 2 months later I spent 5 days in DW.

WOW, that's ALOT of foot problems. Glad you did so well with the surgery. I was scheduled to have it Spring 2009 but chickened out. May do it when I return to the US but I'm still scared it might be worse than what I have now.
My bunion makes it difficult to balance on just the bunion foot during yoga.

After not having regular 'net at home all day what a fun surprise :) Now just got to keep it up...

GREAT JOB !!!

I've been busy with work and courses. Last two evenings I sat at the table doing my course work while helping my 9yo DD with her homework. It is not as effective as working alone, since there was lots of interruptions to help her. But she likes knowing we both have to do homework and there was a definite improvement DD's attitude between night one and night two. She gets overwhelmed with thinking about how hard something is and gets into panic mode instead of just calmly doing the work.

What a great example:thumbsup2

LOL they showed a marquee on the news tonight from a local Christian School. It said Whoever is praying for snow, please stop!
Had to shout out an AMEN to that!!

:rotfl:

Be careful with all the slick roads you have!

I do not want the cortisone injections!!

The relief you experience is sooooo worth it though, for me atleast. The first one I ever got was the most painful thing I've ever experienced but the pain was very short lived and with all the others there was no pain at all. My current podiatrist does not like to give many cortisone shots so I haven't had one since Summer 2009 but I'm doing much better now

OMG!!! I made top ten!! Woohoo!! That was the motivation I needed!!

:cool1:

I woke up this morning and my knee is very stiff. The dr had warned me that on bad days it may hurt. He was right.

1/26/11 Wednesday QOTD: What is your favorite healthy snack?

Apple, banana, almonds (no more than 10 due to calories!), yogurt, laughing cow cheese spread on 1/2 english muffin, pretzels, mini carrots, grapes.

I am soooooooooooooooo excited to end up in the Number 2 position this week!! I have been working really hard to eat right and exercise and the pounds are moving in the right direction!

:yay: I love to hear about others' successes! It's so motivating to me, it makes me feel like I could do it too!

I am trying a toe spacer some too since beg of the year. I can't keep it on more than an hour so far! I massage my bunion sometimes and that helps a little. I'm putting off my surgery as long as possible too and hope I can keep finding shoes that fit! Good luck with your battle!

I came down the stairs this morning like this:
:tiptoe:Ow,:tiptoe: Ow,:tiptoe: Ow,:tiptoe: Ow,:tiptoe: Ow,:tiptoe: Ow. . .
But I got on that floor and did it all again.

Great attitude! It is getting a little easier for me each time I do it, I am amazed. Right now I do not feel like I will ever move on to Level 2, but who knows? The push ups are the hardest part for me, ugghhhh......

I have Voltaren but it is for my hip. I should probably try it on my feet to. Where did you apply it to? The heel or the arch?

Mostly the arch but I do the heel and sides and back of the heel too. It feels so good. I have to measure out a certain amount on a little paper strip and it's alot of goo! It seems like much more than you need but you're just supposed to keep rubbing and rubbing (I guess you already know this;)). It takes me about 5 mins to rub it all in and then I try to sit and wait about 10 more minutes before putting on socks or shoes to make sure it all got absorbed into the skin. I actually have not needed to use it in almost a year. I try to take some with me on every vacation just in case. We do so much walking on vacay I don't want a flare up.

I got the Mickey ones that are the same colors as that. They are so stinkin cute and I was so surprised at how comfortable.

Oh, they sound so cute, I haven't seen the Mickey ones:love:

chips with guacamole.

mmmmmmmm

Pamela Sorry about your daughter spat. It's tough to be a Mom! I'm sure both your kids are great most of the time but they know what buttons to push sometimes!

I enjoyed watching the BL this morning, esp since it was only an hour long:rotfl: Have a great day tomorrow Donalds and make it count since it's the last day before our weigh-in on Friday!

My body is going to be mad at me in the morning. I did 30 Day Shred on Level 2(for 2nd time) then later did 30 minutes of hip hop cardio dance for fun. I wondered if I could do it. As suspected I was horrible. I am NOT a dancer. I could do most of it pretty easily yet still felt worked. Then I was standing and walking most of the evening helping out at church with setting up and then helped by being a sub helper for the 3rd and 4th grade classes because the regular teacher was out and the helper was leading.

Very exhausting day. Off to watch a little tv before I go pass out in bed. ;) Hope everyone had a great day. It will soon be Friday. I'm looking forward to church and the chili cook off they are having on Sunday. I'm thinking of entering another vegetarian option. My friend who has been going there for a long time is vegetarian and joked she was only making some to be sure there was some that was vegetarian. I really like veggie chili so I may have to get the crock pot going Saturday. Mine takes a long long time to cook beans.

Good Thursday morning Team Donald.

Everyone here has a snow day:banana::banana: Ds got cancelled at 8 last night, I got cancelled at 11:30 last night (they had first called for a delay) and dh got his cancel phone call at 5:30 this morning. He had also gotten a call for a delay last night.

Dh and I went out and shoveled the walk and behind the cars and cleaned off the cars. ds will have to do his own car.

I don't know if I will have yoga tonight. It depends on the roads. It is not far so I may.

I am off to eat breakfast and enjoy the day.

Have happy and healthy day.

Good morning Team Donald!!
Sorry I was a bit of a slacker coach yesterday, and just didn't get motivated to come on here and catch up. I did find myself motivated to eat half a bag of cheddar cheese goldfish while I watched Criminal Minds last night though. :guilty:Oh, well, today is a new day. And a snow day to boot. The work schedule was light today, so I took the day off in anticipation, and then as i watched the weather, I thought, maybe it will just be a delayed start, and I'll have some more time to myself, but it was cancelled. So ds is watching tv til 9, and then we'll go out and shovel. We may get together with some friends too, and maybe go sledding. The sun is supposed to come out this afternoon.

I always gained at least 15 pounds.
The last type of pill I was on (ortho-tricyclin), I gained a kid. Literally. DD was a BC baby.
Oh, my. That must have been a shocker. I'm sure she was sent to you to help even out all the testosterone in your home.;)

I think most women gain weight on the pill...what's your experience?
It's been too long, just wish i needed to worry about it. :rotfl2:

It's all about making choices and it sounds like you made a decision, and stuck with it. Good for you for going light the rest of the day. Bummer on the tooth. I hope the dentist isn't too painful literally and in the pocketbook. I'm sure they will have the same anesthetics as we have here. From what I've heard from our german work friend, they are way ahead of us americans over there. :lmao:

Congrats to everyone who took part in the HH challenge this week. We let them Mickey's beat us though!:scared1: Come on team, let's see if we can beat them next week. HH is a great daily reminder to get those healthy habits in.

THank you CC for all your hard work with the hh challenge.:flower3:

Great work on the exercise, Melissa!!

I need to go walk but honestly the thought of going down to the basement to use the treadmill is not appealing. I'm feeling shut in, I need to be outside.
Guess I need to invest in cross country skis or snow shoes!!
looks like you got slammed again. The treadmill is so not fun. I wish snow shoes weren't so expensive, though they would have been worth it this year. Hey, maybe if I go out and buy some, we won't get any more snow this year.

LTS- I won't steal your other question. ;) I actually didn't know we could change that, so I'll have to investigate further.
For any new coaches this challenge, Corinna has kept up a qotd archive from the past few challenges here. http://www.disboards.com/showthread.php?t=2373593
I'll bump it up higher on the post list too, but it's great to get some ideas, and recycle the qotds from past challenges.

Hope everyone on the east coast is safe and warm in their homes, and be careful when out to travel. It seem to have stopped snowing, and it's nice not to need to go anywhere, but I did say I will not stay on the computer all day, and ds will not watch tv all day. We've had way too much media this winter.

Have a great day.

I am not caught up on all the QOTD. My favorite snack? Laughing cow wedges on wheat thins, or a baked sweet potato. I know that sounds weird but I love the sweet potato and it is so filling. My last disney trip was Nov. 2010 with just my youngest daughter, My first was to the MK in 1980 on a senior class trip. We had to use tickets for the rides! My next trip is up in the air...maybe next November. Did Team Mickey or Team Donald win this past week???

Thursday QOTD 1/27/11--What are the warning signs for you that you are maybe starting to lose your way on this healthy journey? Is is eating more? Not journaling your food? Skipping workouts? And the more important part of this.... HOW DO YOU GET BACK ON TRACK?

I need this today. It's almost 4 weeks we've been at this challenge, and until this week, I was really good, but this week, I ate at mcd's, I bought some salty junk food at the grocery yesterday, and ate it last night, and didn't journal all my food yesterday which is the first day since jan 1 that I missed. I am feeling in a bit of a funk today, and I need to get out of it. So right now, I am re-committing to journalling every bite before I take it, and will get out and shovel, and then do 30 min wii fit today. I did get my long run/walk in tuesday so that is something. The plusses, i did buy a bunch more vegies and fruit yesterday too, and I will make some roasted vegies tonight with dinner.

Yesterday's qotd- I love fresh fruit, especially cantaloupe and pineapple, and chobani yogurt with it, almonds, and when I need something sweet, I'll have some cozy shack pudding. It's funny, when i posted yesterdays qotd, I think I was craving unhealthy snacks, and then off to market basket I went with bad thoughts in my head. I definitely need to have a list and stick with it for the grocery store too.

:banana:Tomorrow is weighin day, as well as measurement day for the WIN challenge. Don't forget to pm your weight to Tigger813 with Team Donald in the title, and pm your measurements to Connie96 with team donald in the title as well.

Let's make this day count. Get that water in, move those bones, and eat those fruits and vegies.! WE CAN DO THIS!!!!!:cheer2:

Well, I had a very good day Monday. Hubby came home and had gotten a significant raise and a change in job title, but still has the same job. We didn't even know that could happen since he's working under a 3 year contract :cool1: So, we decided to go to Paris on the weekend of our birthdays (Feb 18th-20th). I found great air fare - 83 euros per person but I am finding a tough time finding a reasonably priced hotel with good reviews in a good area that can accomodate 3 (DS will go with us also). I would love to really splurge and stay in a 5 star hotel but they are 500 - 1000 euros per night and I'm too thrifty to do that, I'd rather have a posession for that amount of $$$.

Awesome! Any thoughts on what you might do while you're there?

Good morning Team Donald!!

1/26/11 Wednesday QOTD: What is your favorite healthy snack?

I'm a big vitamuffin/vitatop fan popcorn::

Green Giant "Healthy Weight" vegetables. It's edamame, black beans, carrots and sweat pea pods in butter.

Those sound tasty. I might have to find them in my grocery store.

Well, daycare is delayed 2 1/2 hours this morning, so we're getting a late start. I figured I should catch up this morning while we're waiting to go. Everyone enjoy your day and drive carefully if you're out in the snow.

Thursday QOTD 1/27/11--What are the warning signs for you that you are maybe starting to lose your way on this healthy journey? Is is eating more? Not journaling your food? Skipping workouts? And the more important part of this.... HOW DO YOU GET BACK ON TRACK?

I definitely need to get back on the exercise wagon. With tax season ready to start I'm just not motivated. I'm hoping to get organized today at work and get a lot done, so maybe that'll motivate me at home too.

My trouble is that I have about 5 pounds to go and almost 4 months to do it in, so I'm not pressuring myself enough. I'm hoping Sears has their summer swimsuits out soon. That always gets me in workout mode, because I'm just never happy trying on a two piece :headache:

Hi Kathy,
Another snow day? Are you off today too, so you can play? It almost looks like they went around town yesterday and cut back the snow. My mother said they've always done it years past, but may have been trying to save money this year. Guess with today's forecast they had no choice. My training got moved to next Thursday, so hopefully we won't have another storm next week.

:wave2: Have to get some things done today so not much time. I am going to skip my exercise today-- I am so sore I can barely move. Yeah, I'm a wimp! But I am going to go shopping and will walk the entire time if it kills me, instead of using my scooter.

So here is what I think is probably the weirdest weight loss victory I have ever heard. I can sleep on my side now! :woohoo: The last year or so anytime I tried to sleep on my side the pressure on my hips was so bad it felt like I was beaten with a bat, they would hurt. I would have thought the extra padding would cushion that but apparently the excess pressure was too much. I haven't been having any pain when I lie on my side this week! And it only took about 10 pounds to make that much of a difference.

I typed out my entire journey of my foot issues last night planning to post it here, but it ended up being 3 pages long in Word. There was almost 10 years with a whole lot that happened to put down. I don't think anyone really wants to read all of that! I will see if I can try to take it down to the key sound bites later.

I had heard there was an archive but didn't know where it was.

If you go to the main Forum list page and scroll alllllllllllllllllll the way down to the very bottom on the left there is a drop down box with all the theme/skin options. It doesn't say what it is you just have to know. If you haven't changed yours it will say Default. I think you can also change it in your User CP but if you do it from the home page you can see the results right away and figure out what you like.

Thursday QOTD 1/27/11--What are the warning signs for you that you are maybe starting to lose your way on this healthy journey? Is is eating more? Not journaling your food? Skipping workouts? And the more important part of this.... HOW DO YOU GET BACK ON TRACK?

I think that when I stop journaling that is the beginning. Then I start to cheat more-- just a few chips won't hurt. A little piece of cake won't hurt me. . . But the thing that usually derails me completely is getting sick. My IBS starts to act up, I end up having to eat bland "white" carbs for several weeks and just never go back to being on plan. So I don't think I can say how to get back on track-- not sure I ever have! But this time I will do what I need to if I am sick but as soon as I am better it is back to the OP menus.

What is the Healthy Habits Challenge? Just joined the team this week...is it somewhere in this thread? I haven't read through all the posts.

It is on page one of this thread. Post 6 has links to all of them. Here is the summary of what it is:
