Team 8 Jessica's Rabbits Bios and Info

Hello All

So Martha is doing speedwork and I can't even run. I simply fail to see the justice in this state of nature. I did walk 3 miles on the treadmill Sunday, as I figure on the TM I can precisely control my pace, up and down, to work but not strain it. I can report a new 3 mile PR, and not the good kind. Today was a good lift and bike session, and tomorrow it's back to walking. I have always respected our serious walker contingent, and even more now. Walking 13 mpm is a lot harder than running 10 mpm. I'm looking forward to the first "run" on Sunday, so I can take it easy.

Scott

I went all the way through your Las Vegas story, and especially enjoyed the Star Trek drink you show. I suppose a few of those and you literally end up in orbit.

And I agree completely. Your dinner companion on day 3 picture (and all other days too) is totally charming.

Howard

Okay, how did you drop 14 pounds since I saw you last? I need the info. If I could replicate that I'd be (1) faster and (2) lighter on my feet and less susceptible to injury.

Rich

Thanks for your inputs and miles. I am so impressed.

Steve and Krista

I wish you three the best in your coming journey together. Being a parent and raising a small person into a happy and productive adult is such hard work, but so unbelievably satisfying. You'll get to experience a few setbacks, but a large number of small victories which will bring you together into a small group which generates pure love, respect, and support for everyone.

Krista Alone

So it's you and me training from zero to January 10, eh? I figure I'll be back running about the time you are cleared to train, so we can let all these fast and fit people go ahead, and concentrate on building for race day.

Best
Craig

Two days in a row of posting. How cool is that? I had a pretty good run this evening. I did 3 miles in 31:30 with speed work incorporated. Mile 1 = 2 min at 10:42, 1 min at 10:00. Mile 2 = 2 min at 10:42, 1 min at 9:49. Mile 3 = 2 min at 10:42, 1 min at 9:40. It helps if you have a surreal meeting just prior to leaving work. Something about that helps you run better!! LOL.

Craig: your rehab is going very well. Take care of that calf and don't push yourself!! I'll hide your running shoes if you try to come back too soon.

Howard: so happy to hear that the 5K went really well! Congrats. Sooo, what are you doing to lose the weight?

Scott: enjoyed reading your post on the trip! Sounds like fun. The numbers you and Amy put up always amaze me. :worship:

Krista: how ya feelin'? Hope you're still doing well. I made the mistake of buying a pair of shoes when I was 6 months pregnant. They fit me quite well when I was pregnant but after Lesley was born they were waaaay too big.

Hope everyone else is doing well.

Hi Bunnies. I have a new player for your teamk. Please welcome Steve, Airtime247. He has done several 5 and 10Ks and is training for a half now.

Gamey Panda:hippie:

Welcome Steve!!!

We haven't bitten anyone recently so you are safe and in good company.

Howard

Ok...here are some broken toe influenced numbers:

6/22 - 6/30: 61.2 miles, 7.5 hours
7/1 - 7/7: 34.8 miles, 5.5 hours
7/8 - 7/14: 16.6 miles, 3.0 hours
7/15 - 7/21: 60.85 miles, 7.0 hours

Craig and Martha: Hope all is well with you guys...glad to see you moving forward Craig, and nice job on the speedwork Martha.

Steve and Krista: Hope all is well in baby land! Good luck with these next few weeks, I really wish the best for you three ;)

Howard: congrats on the 5k! Nice job on the weight loss too :goodvibes:

Amy:

Welcome Steve!!! :welcome:

Also: CONGRATULATIONS STEVE AND KRISTA!!!!!!! Carter came into the world yesterday and everyone is doing well! A baby bunny--how wonderful!!!

Today is a rest day for me. Tomorrow morning I'm with my trainer for a workout so not much mileage but an hour of workout.

Steve: great numbers on a broken toe!

Hope everyone is having a good evening.

Congrats Steve and Krista on the new Baby

Welcome Steve

Nice numbers by all the Rabbits have fun out there. Every morning on my runs I see a Baby rabbit on my way its just to funny . Makes me think of everyone here.

First, how exciting to see teammates with a new baby. Congratulations Steve & Krista! Those late nights and rapid diaper changes have to count for some weekly numbers on here, right? :laundy:

Hi everyone, my name is Steve as well. I am new to running. I've only been doing it since March. I was never very active growing up, mostly due to really bad asthma which prevented me from playing in team sports. I guess that discouraged me from being very active and encouraged me to be a couch and computer potato.

I got to my heaviest in 2000, shortly after getting married and relocating to San Diego, where two young, newlywed, childless dual-income kids enjoyed the great local restaurants a little too frequently!

We moved away a year later and started eating right and walking a lot. I lost over 50 pounds over the next few years and got down to my lightest weight since high school. I put back on 20 when my wife got pregnant (she said it was only fair) and finally started making the effort to take it back off (and then some) this year.

I got really inspired to take up running from listening to the Disney podcasts talking about the WDW Half Marathon. I heard a lot of regular guys like me training for it and succeeding in their goal.

I competed in a local 2-mile race in March a couple weeks after I started training and thought I was going to die. I couldn't believe how out of shape I was but the feeling of crossing that finish line was amazing and I was instantly hooked.

I joined our local running club and just ran in my 8th race last weekend and am running another 5K this weekend followed by a 7-mile race the weekend after. My longest was a 10K so far through the California Redwoods which was an amazing experience. My first half marathon will be there as well in October and I'm really looking forward to it.

I'm even more excited about the Disneyland Half Marathon next year which was my initial goal.

I've lost 10 pounds of my pregnancy weight and still want to lose that extra 10 plus maybe another 15-20.

That's about it from me. I've got to say thank you all for already inspiring me. I was going to take the night off and read through some of the posts but after reading that first page and seeing how hard you all work, I got off my chair and out to the treadmill for 5 miles. Thank you!!!

I hope to catch up in the next couple of weeks and look forward to getting to know all of you!

-steve

Welcome Steve, we're glad to have you on board. From your Redwoods comment I assume you are in Northern California. We are a relatively small group, and we are a mixed lot of speed, endurance, and capability. We all, however, train with purpose and care about getting a result which satisfies ourself in our races, with satisfactory depending on our state of training, natural ability, health, and feel for the day.

The rules are pretty simple, all you need to do is post your weekly results being:

miles, in total, run, bike, walk, swim, whatever
time, in total as well

We're in the tail of July, so the current reporting period is July 22 through July 31. After the 31st if you could post your number I'll pick them up. When we start August we go weekly, so the first period for August is Aug 1 through 7.

Please feel free to do more than this minimum. Most of us don't have true training partners where we live, someone who runs comfortably with us at the same pace and distance, so we can and do use this group as virtual training partners. This is particularly satisfying when you actually run with one of us in a race, as Scott and Amy do frequently, and they were kind enough to let me run on their shoulder at the Minnie 15K.

Now about my training . . .

I was on that darn treadmill yesterday evening, and did 5K in 42:06, and right now I'll take it. Just for you Steve, that's 13:33 per mile 2.5 minutes per mile ahead of the broom truck :rolleyes1 . I stretched and rolled the calf before and after, and then ice/stim twice in the evening. This morning it was a bit tight, so I've stretched and rolled it a few times. Today is bike only to work the legs and let the calf rest. The first true running try will be Sunday, and yes for all of you, I promise to take it slow and easy.

Best to all
Craig

Martha & Craig:

I wanted to give your question some thought before answering. There are several reasons I have been successful (thus far) in dropping some weight. First of all, unfortunately, I had some to lose. 210 lbs on a 5' 10.5" frame isn't too pretty. Plus my lifestyle dictated by graduate school, part-time work and long nights with meals grabbed on the run, all combined to make me more sedentary than I like. I always kind of knew I was sacrificing more than just time with my family while I returned to school.

This is MY time. I have been eating more regularly, eating healthier, eating smaller portions, drinking water and/or diet drinks, keeping (mostly) clear of my nemesis - the chocolate chip cookie, and running and XTing my buns off - almost literally. I've dropped from a 38 waist to a 34 since May 27.

I have my eyes on a goal and nothing is going to deter me (God willing that is!). I need to stay healthy and run with my head. I am glad I have you and everyone else here to keep me focused and moving forward towards my goals.

Phila. Distance Run in Sept.
Marine Corps Marathon in Oct.
Philadelphia Marathon in Nov.
5K + Goofy in January

I want a PR in one of the half marathons and one of the marathons. Period.
My PR's stand at:

Half Marathon: 1:59:33
Marathon: 4:41:03

I am basically doing the classic weight loss plan ~ burn more calories than I take in. It is working. I need to go but hope I've answered your question. In the mean time, I am racking up miles on the training plan.

Have a great night!

Howard

Thanks for the thoughtful reply. I am so impressed with what you have done since I saw you on May 4.

The burning more than you consume is so simple in theory, but hard in practice. My problem is at my age I have a weight which my body clearly wants to weigh, since 300 days out of 365 in a year the scale returns the same number. I need to follow your example, keep my eye on the goal, and pass on that second helping of dinner.

And, if you are looking for a half PR, it seems to me that Saturday, January 10, 2009 is the day. I'll be there as well, and if I can recover from my latest setback, perhaps we'll be out there together. I would so much love to get an over-50 sub-2. As we get into December I'll let you know if I'm able to hold onto you on the Disney half course.

Tell your lovely bride hello from me.

Craig

Please excuse the interruption!

Hey guys, if you haven't noticed, Judy & myself are trying to entice as many WISHers as possible to voluntEAR as Sports Enthusiasts for Marathon Weekend.

It will be lots of fun, and what a great way to support others WISHers (and all the athletes) if you are not participating! :thumbsup2

Nevermind, you receive a one-day park ticket, jacket and a snack for your troubles!

I know that we had a blast doing this last year and we hope to have much more particpation this year. :woohoo:

Here's a link to the thread:

Come on guys, you know you wanna.... :cheer2:

Back to normal team posting activities...

Howard: thanks for the information! Congrats and kudos go to you for sticking to your plan and focusing on the goal. That is so very hard especially when you like baking (me) and in the dead of winter that's about the only thing to do on snowy, cold weekends. And it seems that the older one gets (me) the harder it is to lose the weight.

But, I am endeavoring to drop a few pounds which I'm hoping will make it easier to meet my goal at ToT (beat last year's time). You are quite an inspiration! I hope I can do as well as you have.

Thanks again!

Kristi: I've signed up for the red water stop #2 for the marathon!! I'm looking forward to it. :cool1:

Hi Craig,

Thanks for the welcome. Yes, I'm in Northern California. I'm on the coast, around 90 miles south of the Oregon border. It's a nice, cool climate for running but very hilly.

I'll be sure to post my numbers after the 31st. I'm already tracking all that in Excel so I should have it handy.

I hope your calf gets better soon. In the short time I've been running, I've already tweaked my lower back and sprained my ankle. It took me a while to get back up to speed after each.

Your injured numbers aren't that far off from my healthy numbers! Maybe I should be Jessica's Rabbits' Honorary Tortoise!

I just ran in another small, local 5K today. I shaved eight seconds off my PR for a 5K, finishing in 30:51. It doesn't sound like much but I was pretty proud as my previous best was a much flatter course.

Great job Howard! Best of luck in beating your PR's. I'm sure you will do it.

Steve

Hi Steve! Nope, you cannot have the "tortoise" moniker b/c that belongs to me. I am quite slow but I'm a steady kind of runner. I'll keep the same pace throughout the run, period. You are MUCH speedier than I am.

Northern CA is a great place to run. Maybe hilly but so much better for running than other places! Welcome to the group!

The pic of your DD is adorable. Will we meet you at ToT or marathon weekend?

Hi Martha,

I slow down a lot after three miles. At five miles and up, I generally run around a 12-minute mile. As long as I can keep from getting picked up and taken to the family area, I'll be happy!

We aren't able to go to WDW in 2008 as we are using our DVC points for two trips in 2009 - early May and early December. I hope a race of some kind gets scheduled during those times. If not, maybe I'll be able to run there in2010.

Thanks for the compliment on my little princess! It's an older picture as she is a terrible-two now. I needed to take up running to catch her! ;)

-steve

Hey everyone!!

Sounds like the team is on the mend. Woo Woo!
Scott, Craig - don't over do it guys!

Martha, Steve - hate to break it to both of you but I do believe the
tortoise award goes to me seeing as I'm slower than both of you. :upsidedow

Now for a quick update on my numbers for the past two weeks :rolleyes1

July 15-21
Miles 25.89
Hours 6.25

July 22-28
Miles 44.17
Hours 6.2

Next week or so will be down a bit as heading into taper for my first 1/2 on Aug 10. :scared:

Later!!

Liz: you will do GREAT on your first half!! Where is it? Let's hope it's not somewhere too hot.

Steve: terrible two, eh? I can tell from the pic that she will give you a run for your money for the rest of her life! She is adorable.

Hope everyone else is doing very well! I had a great speed workout today. I ran 2 min slow, 1 min fast. The first two miles my fast minute was at 9:40 mm. The third mile the fast minute was at 9:31 mm. That last mile I ran the final 2 min at 9:31 just to get the 3rd mile done on the fast minute rather than the recovery minutes. Make sense? It felt great.

Have a great evening everyone!

Week of July 22 to 28

Cross-trainer (elliptical): 3.1 miles in 24:53

Nice to see so many high numbers. Good job everyone!!! :thumbsup2

I am fairly sure that (other than the 2007 & 2008 Goofy Challenges) this is the most mileage I have ever had in one week.

Take Care and keep up the training!

:grouphug:

Howard
