Team 8 Jessica's Rabbits Bios and Info

:headache: Sorry I have nothing to report

I slipped going into my pool on Monday and landed on my right hip and hit my neck on first step in the pool (not the concrete thank god)

I have swelling in my neck and I am on lovely pills - to reduce the pain and an anti-inflam med too.

I had to take the week off, to make sure nothing was wrong. Since I have two herniated dics already, this was the icing on the cake (per say).

Saterday, I am able to get back on the elipitical BUT NO RUNNING till I see the Dr. on Tue again.

I just hope this was not the deal breaker for me to have the neck fusion now

As far as everyone else, you just blow me away with your numbers every week!!! Congrats to you :yay:

Thank you everyone for all your numbers for June and July. I have all the inputs up to this point in the master sheet. We remain a very strong #2, with Donald's Dashers continuing to pull away. They are a bunch of machines.

I do appreciate the good work of everyone in the rabbits. Thanks.

Swim Mom

Bless you, be careful, and get healthy, whatever it takes. The words neck and fushion in the same sentence always get my attention.

My situation is not threatening, health-wise, but is basically and totally a bummer. I put this up on the weekly thread, but today I tore my left calf for the 5th time in the past 52 months. I hadn't hurt it in 23 months, and today I was running easy and fairly quick, and literally it came apart in 10 seconds. From feeling great to stopped, bang.

I went back through my training logs for the past 2 times this happened, always the same spot in the same muscle, and the rehab was ugly and really slow. I'm icing the heck out of it today, and will continue for a few days, and then in about a week I can begin to rehab it. The depressing part is I thought I had figured it all out, and then this happens. Actually the depressing part is I never even pulled a muscle until the age of 47, and now I cannot seem to overcome this. I do have a knot of scar tissue on "the spot," which I suspect will be with me forever. I just need to figure out what I can and cannot do with it. Our daughter made a good point, something like "you still have the engine, but perhaps your legs just can't keep up with your motor anymore." Sort of like in Casablanca, if I can't ever put the hammer down in a race again, at least I did it right at the May 4 2008 Minnie 15K (my version of "we'll always have Paris).

Still, if I cannot push races anymore, I'm not sure folks will want to be around me on race day. My greatest thanks to Martha, Scott, Amy, Howard, Terri, Erin, and everyone else who ran with me during the last ever Minnie. I enjoyed it more than I can express.

So, after I recover from my self-pity, I'll start back up. Martha and I are running the Tower of Terror, and I will, will start and finish both legs of the Goofy. I just have no idea how those days will go right now. I was thinking about organising a 12 mpm pace group for Marathon Sunday January 11, and perhaps that's a pace I can carry for that distance without hurting the calf. Of course, my sub-2 half on saturday is gone. is all I can say.

Keep it up everyone, I will be here, picking up your information. I'll keep you all in mind during every workout of my rehab, since you are my training partners.

Craig

Craig--I'm so sorry to hear about your calf. I know that you're thinking to others it may seem small, but I know how huge this is to you. I don't even know what to say, and anything I do say won't make you feel any better, I'm sure of that.

Just know that we'll be pulling for you. I'm glad you're able to find the silver lining by thinking ahead towards TOT and January. Kudos to you and I hope your recovery goes very well. I'm sure you're frustrated right now (I COMPLETELY feel for you--I've gone through similar things, though smaller than yours, and tough does not even begin to describe how hard it was to deal with).

We're with you, Craig. Take some time off and let the recovery begin. Your courage and tenacity to deal with this should be a model for all of us.

Your teammate,

Steve

Thanks Steve. Honestly, I am really hurting inside. Such a big part of my self image is the athlete I once was, and like to think I still am. I had to give up playing soccer because my legs wouldn't do it anymore, and now the thought of giving up competitive running is pretty overwhelming. I fully understand that my ability to push the pace and compete degrades with age, but the thought of being unable to even participate is scary.

You're a good man, a good friend, and will be a great father. Carter is in for an wonderful ride as your son.

Craig

Swim Mom - be careful and rest up to heal.

Craig - Oh I am so sorry to hear that happened. You are a great guy and when I got sidelined in May you were here to tell me it was ok to take the time to heal. I know it's not easy and harder for you than me, I'm sure, but be sure to take the time. We're all here for you. So glad have a positive attitude about ToT and Jan and looking forward to seeing you again in Oct.

Another teammate,

Swim mom Hope your better soon pools can be dangerous from my own past experience.

Craig good luck on the recovery and if I every have the pleasure of ruuning a race your in we can partner up. I personnally don't know what I do if I were in the same sitituation Take it slow and get well soon. Rich

On to miles for the week
July 7-14
Running
62 miles
8 hours
biking
40 miles
2.5 hours

Thanks for the numbers Rich, I have them in the book.

And thank you to everyone for positive thoughts. Today I was able to walk completely normally, if a bit more slowly than usual. I did rehab workout #1, lifting, no calf work, and biking, so no stress on the injury and no trouble.

I must admit I'm getting a bit tired of roll, stretch, ice, ice and stim. Repeat often and all day. Of course if I'd taken better care of the calf muscle, ice and ice/stim after every run, I likely wouldn't be in this condition. Sadly I was icing and worrying about the left quad (it is ALWAYS the left for god's sake), and somewhat neglecting the calf. In the words of the poet Jimmy, "It's my own damn fault pirate: !"

Take care everyone. I hope you are enjoying summer and keeping cool.

Craig

Rich - you never cease to amaze me with your numbers...

Patrick

Thanks for the inputs everybody, I have them in the sheet. I do appreciate all you inputs, as we've not heard from many folks in 2 + months. If you are in contact with our MIA's please let them know we'd love to hear from them, and no apologies are necessary when life takes over.

I am doing better than anticipated with the rehab, so apparently I had the good sense to stop at the first feel of damage Sunday, and not tear the thing any more. I've been in the fitness center 4 days straight, but no running for another week I suspect, and even then jog/walk breaks for starters.

I've been able to lift hard, bike hard, and walk at a reasonable pace, covering 2.2 miles in 32 minutes yesterday, 14:33 per mile. I've been varying the pace in 90 second bytes, a quicker portion to make it work, and a slower portion to let it rest. I was especially happy that 32 minutes on the race course has the sweepers at 2.0 miles, so I was .20 miles or 320 meters ahead of the sweepers. You see, when walking I have a lot of time to think, so I keep running these calculations through my brain all the time. How geeky is that? I mean to be telling myself I'm 70 meters ahead of sweep pace at the 1/2 mile mark!

My thanks to everyone who is staying with us. We may be smaller in numbers than most groups, but what we have is quality (another soccer term  ).

Craig

Hi Team..

Craig...WOW...I'm so sorry to read about your injury. I'm so glad you got to run YOUR race at the 15K and what a race it was. I know it was a special day for you and I'm proud to have been able to be there for some portion. I know you'll make full recovery...but looking toward rehab for a few months and a tough weekend in January is disheartening for you. Hang in there buddy. :goodvibes

Howard...Love seeing those numbers you are posting. Your times and mileage have been great! I only wish I could say my running has been that consistent. Keep it up and you'll be FLYING marathon weekend!!! :thumbsup2

Rich: :worship: Again...ITA with Liz...amazing!

Swim-Mom: Sending MAJOR pd to you! Hang in there and please do rest and heal. Know we're thinking about you. And update us when and if you can.

Big Dave: WELCOME :)

Ahhh...my numbers...:headache: . Yepper...Craig I owe you a BUNCH. I was in Vegas for a week at a fitness conference so I didn't run much but do have many hours of exercise to post. I need to recalculate. The remainder of last week was pretty light but I did get some workouts in. My body needed recovery from a week of pounding and travelling. I'm getting into half marathon training beginning TOMORROW so my numbers should be back to normal now :). Will post official distance/time tomorrow!

Steve: HOW ARE YOU AND KRISTA??

Oh...and Scott...he broke a toe in his foot and is on the IR for a bit too :(. He should know the extent of his recovery tomorrow after meeting with the ortho. Unfortunately it's a displaced break :( so we're not sure what to expect.

Hello Amy and welcome back from your travelling road show. And how hot was it during the day, and even at 10 pm in Las Vegas in July? Good luck with your build to the half marathon. How soon is it?

OUCH! Scott, that is a total bummer. What do they do with a displaced toe fracture? That sounds not only painful, but painful for a long time. I wish you well in your recovery and look forward to seeing you again.

Yes, Steve and Krista, how are you two getting along? Keep us informed in these last few weeks pre-Carter.

Howard is the man. It's amazing how quickly he's ratched up the miles and down the pace. I'm envious.

Lastly, thank you Amy for your kind words about the Minnie 15K. I will always treasure that race and day. Running 1 mile with you and Scott was a great part of it. I was able to run briefly with lots of other friends, and on the hairpin back I saw Bill Floyd, and then Martha and Carrie running together. Well I couldn't miss Martha and Carrie, since they shouted at me in unison. Friday I ordered 2 of the professional photos from the 15K, 1 with the Tower of Terror in the background, where I look comfortable, and 1 taken in the last 200 meters of the race, where I'm squeezing it as hard as I can to the finish.

While training those last few weeks for the 15K I realized I was getting very close to the line of fitness vs. injury, and I'm thankful I didn't get hurt and had a good result. I promise to be smart in the next few weeks. And if this means my days of training close to the edge and racing hard are over, I think I can live with that. It's nice to get good results, but it's more important to be out there (repeat 100 times until I believe it  )

Craig

Hi Craig...here are some numbers for ya! And yes...being out there in any capacity is better than not being able to race at all. Take your time with the rehabilitation and build yourself up stronger than ever. Your goal for marathon weekend will be to enjoy some great memories running with other warriors...and it will be a victory to finish those races on the heal of a serious injury. I'll be pulling for you that you're able to get to the starting line in January! :goodvibes

Here are my numbers...not awfully impressive but I'm hoping to turn that around!

July 8 - July 14th:
Miles: 29
Hours: 10.2

July 15 - July 21
Miles: 36
Hours: 5.2

Thanks :) Amy

Hey team! Remember me? I’m that member who only posts once a month and fails to offer encouragement to the rest of his teammates on a regular basis. Oh, THAT guy.

Ok, so now that you all remember me—HI! Glad to see everyone’s doing well. Even with my lack of posting, I have managed to keep up with training. I actually raced three triathlons in three back-to-back weekends, which was a lot of fun. I’m targeting a half ironman distance mid-September, but I need to see how my training holds up once the baby arrives within the next few weeks. Wow, the next few weeks. It’s crazy to think it’s so close. The last nine months have flown by. Now if the next 18 years will fly by just as quickly…. :)

Krista and I have been doing very well (thanks for asking). She’s 37 weeks along tomorrow, and I’m pretty sure she’s ready to pop this kid out! I hope it comes soon, because I’m running out of correct ways to answer the question, “Do my ankles really look that swollen?”

Before I forget, here are my miles/hours for the past few weeks:

June 22-30: 144.8 miles, 12.25 hours
July 1-7: 112.5 miles, 10.5 hours
July 8-14: 63.5 miles, 8.25 hours
July 15-21: 78 miles, 7.5 hours

Carol—congrats on signing up for the WDW half! We’ll see you there in January!

Swim mom—hope you are getting better! Take it easy on yourself and get some R&R.

Big Dave—welcome to the team!

Amy—hope you had a great time in Vegas! So was the fitness conference just a cover-up for an excuse to take a trip out there?? :rolleyes1 Hey, “what happens in Vegas….”

Scott—oh man, the toe! That stinks! I can only imagine how painful that is. Hope you are able to recover soon. Should I even ask how it happened? Or is it one of those stories that is totally anti-climatic? Usually, broken toes/fingers fall under that category. :)

Craig--glad to see you're moving along. And your persistence is WAY more than I would be able to muster in your situation. I have to say that I laughed out loud about your pace-calculations during your walk. Maybe it was just the visual image of you cranking out laps at breakneck speed, all the while with your left wrist in the air so you can read your watch and a calculator in the other hand to figure out how far you are ahead of the sweepers. Or maybe not even the caculator--did you drag your laptop out there with you?? ;)

Rich—you are a MACHINE with those hours and numbers. Good thing you don’t need the rest of us to pick up any slack! I bet if we all stopped posting numbers, your numbers alone would keep us in the running for at least the 3rd or 4th place team! :thumbsup2

Liz, Howard, Jeff, Martha and anyone else I missed—HI!!

Hope everyone had a great weekend. Stay cool out there in this heat!

Steve

Stephen--You really shouldn't talk about your wife on threads she might be reading!

Amy and Craig--Thanks for asking about us! Yes, I am 37 weeks pregnant and yes my legs/ankles/feet are very swollen. I only have about 3 or 4 pairs of shoes that I can comfortably wear, that's including my running shoes and my Crocs--very professional looking . I really hope the swelling goes down after he his born! And speaking of when he is born, when I went to the doctor last Wednesday, my doctor said he is completely ready (I won't go into the specifics ;) ) and I'll most likely have him in the next week or 2 and if he would be very surprised if I make it to my due of 8/12. I go back to the doctor this Wednesday, so I'll keep up posted if I've made any progress. :)

I can't wait to get back out there and start training with everyone again. Surprisingly enough I really miss running and working out and I'm eagerly looking forward to getting the all clear from my doctor to start running again! Keep up the good work everyone! You Bunnies rock!

Krista

Hi everyone! I'm like that guy a few posts back who said he was the one who posts rarely. I think I'm even more rare. But, when you sleep with the coach you know you won't be thrown off the team! Not that any of you would be but work with me here.

I think (she says cautiously) that I've come out of my training funk and have started some training for real now. I've started doing speed work on the TM but I reluctantly say that as I don't want the coach to see that or he might get upset. Since he's sidelined for a while but he is being such a good do-bee and is rehabing as he should. But he still is jealous of those training.

Steve & Krista: the fun is only now beginning. Carter will be such a great addition to your family but being a parent is also the most challenging thing in the world. This little person is relying on you for EVERYTHING. Then, he'll want his space and then he will want you to walk 2 steps behind and a little to the left! But for now, he will need you both and you guys will be great parents! Can't wait to see pictures.

Amy & Scott: you two totally rock! The mileage and times are so impressive. I am SO not worthy of you guys. Will you be a ToT? Would love to meet up with you.

Howard: you are da MAN! How was the 5K this past weekend? Hot, I'm sure, but did you raise as much as you hoped to? Your numbers are amazing.

Big Dave: how are ya? Are you adjusting to our thread? How're the workouts going?

Who did I miss? Lots of people, I'm sure. Big shout-outs to all of you. Hope your summer is going well and training is going even better!

Ok so I'm now the official crown holder of the worst teammate award...I'll post some way overdue numbers here shortly...

Thanks for inquiring about my injury...looks like I'll be out for...oh...maybe one more day LOL. It's a displaced fracture of the second toe, I did it at the end of June and still ran the Peachtree on it. (just wanted to sound like a bada%^)

Luckily surgery is not needed and it's simply taped to the adjacent toe right now. The break is into the joint but only 1-2mm so while I'll have reduced flexibility in my toe, it shouldn't really impact anything in the long run.

I hope all of you are doing well!!

Oh and Vegas details??? Don't tell Amy, but they are all located at:
scojo15.blogspot.com

I'll be back with some numbers later :goodvibes

July 15 to 21:

Cross-training: 3.1 miles on elliptical in 26.5 minutes
Free Weights: 15 minutes
Biking (stationary): 3.37 miles in 20 minutes.

Running: 24.11 miles
Time: 3 hours, 43 minutes

(Based on that ~ AVG. Pace = 9:14)

I am keeping with the running matrix I decided to use beginning on May 26. There have only been a few exceptions to the schedule. They were either much needed breaks or there were other family commitments that made it impossible to run that day. I am afraid I will never be able to put up some of the BIG numbers you oters (Steve, Scott, etc.) are putting up. However, I am working on it. My schedule ramps up from here. My LR later this week is 11 miles.

I am happy to do my part to support the team and in the process get in shape. Officially, I have now lost 10 pounds since May 26 when my training began. If you go back a few weeks prior to that (early May) when I had three weeks of graduate school remaining, I would have lost a total of almost 14 pounds. I am now fitting into my 34 size jeans and shorts. I haven't fit into those since I trained for the Delaware Marathon in May 2006. The progress feels good.

Thanks for helping me stay on task.

Scott~ I am glad you toe issue seems to be under control.

Steve & Krista~ Good luck in the final days. You are in our thoughts. All the best!

Craig~ I am glad you are doing well so far with the rehab. Keep it up.

Martha~ Hi! The 5K went very well. There were 610 finishers and about 725 that actually paid registration. We obviously had some no shows and/or non-finishers. It was brutally hot and humid. I was glad I wasn't running it. However it was SO wierd to be at a 5K and not running in it! I set up the mid-course water stop and then the finish line water tables. I then worked in the finish area chute helping people who needed assistance and pointing them to refreshments. The Blood Bank puts on a good race and because of that, they are lucky to break even. It is more of a PR event than a fundraiser for us.

As some of you might have seen, I have signed up for the Philadelphia Distance Run (Half Marathon) on September 21. Race day coincides with a 13 miler on my training schedule, how perfect is that?

Hello to AmyBeth, Rich, Patrick and Big Dave!

:grouphug:

Craig hope your healing is going along well.
