Team 6 - Team Ohana - Check in and introduce!

Corinna: Maybe you already mentioned this, maybe you didn't, but are you doing tech work for a school play, a local theater group, something else? Do you work a lot of shows during the year?

Mel: The tattoo looks great!

Debra: The plans the Six are following? Hm, I think that's obscure even for me! It is a significant date, that much I'll say but I don't know how it relates to their plans.

Richard: You are the racing machine! How many races do you run a month?

Jen: I am sorry that it is so cold for you. It's been ok here in NY, but my real excitement comes this Friday - I leave for Florida for 8 glorious days in the sun and fun!

I've had crazy times lately. Yesterday I was out all day first at a bridal shower, then I came home did a quick change and was back out for a friend's 30th Birthday Party. He just got a Wii so I brought over my controllers and we had a big "Bowling" tournament. They have the Wii hooked up to a projector so it was pretty awesome to play it on a big screen wall. I brought by my DDR and after a short demo, let everyone have at it. It was a hit. I think he will be buying his own copy in short order. Today I FINALLY beat the song I was stuck on since November. That was very exciting. Heh.

Also incredibly exciting is that I actually went for a RUN on Friday. I did a half mile walk warmup and then a sloooooow 1 mile run and then a half mile cooldown. The first few steps of running I'm not sure if it was phantom pain in the knee or what but I was like uh-oh...however once I got into a groove it was ok. The only exception was that it felt a little uncomfortable when I was running on the slanted pavement at the side of the road. I had to try to find the flattest part possible, even though that was more uneven (potholes, etc) but it was better than running on a slant. Excellent. I was happy that after a 7 week layoff I was still able to run the mile and felt like I could've kept going. My running muscles were not too happy - my hamstrings and shins were definitely feeling the burn during the run and my upper quads were a bit sore on Sat. Hopefully this means I'm back on track! I hope!!!

Oh and Mel - is that on your inside ankle or outside? And seriously, how much did it hurt??? I am a total pain whimp when it comes to needles and stabbing!

Really want to know?

Well, you did natural childbirth twice. It's not as bad as that and doesn't last as long ;) . He did a little bit at a time, then dabbed it, so the pain was only a few seconds off and on. There were definitely areas that were much more sensitive than others. That dragon's bottom leg is closer to the ankle bone...it hurt enough that I was considering LaMaze breathing ;) But higher up on the leg, there were places I hardly felt. It took less than an hour...I figured after a 7 hour marathon and 14 hours of labor, I could get through an hour tattoo ;)

Just make sure this is something you really, really want to do. I've been thinking about this for 13 years...just took me a long time to find something I felt strongly enough about to want to 'wear' it forever. I am thinking about something for the right ankle to commemorate the halfs...not sure what though.

Debra...what does DOOD want to get? DOOM is getting his tomorrow...a phoenix on his left shoulder.

Shell...congrats on your mile run! DDR is pretty fun, but I'm not terribly talented ;)

Richard...great race!

Julie...I'm not reading anything particular right now. My last book was Duma Key by Stephen King. Oh wait, I did just finish Higdon's Marathon book. I like his approach better than Galloway's...going to try to use some of his techniques for the future. Great job on your 4 miles!

Richard: You are the racing machine! How many races do you run a month?

It all depends on what is available, and I am a real sucker for a race with a finisher's medal for my wall. In the last 12.5 months I have run 4 5Ks, 1 10K, 1 10M, 4 HMs, 1 25K trail run, and 1 50K trail run. I hadn't really thought about it as a lot, but it does seem a lot. I only had to travel far enough to stay at a hotel for the first HM, which was near my brother's house last April (so I was able to stay with him!). The rest were within range of home (Houston area). I'll probably slow a bit this year since the race scene isn't so new any more, but I really do like the racing experience...even if I do come in way in the back. At least now I can sometimes finish before the awards are given out.

My plans for this year include a 5K and a sprint triathlon in April and May, then training until October for a 10M and/or a HM when it startes to cool enough that races are scheduled again. After that I have already regisitered for the Rock n Roll Marathon in San Antonio (November) and plan to run a 50K trail run again in December. I may also squeeze in a 25K trail run in early November as part of my build up for the 50K in December.

Hi Ohana!
Here's my little race report, such as it is:

Well, it's been a crazy day here. My race was OK. It was cool but not rainy or snowy - perfect weather, really. I forgot the camera and it seemed like we were always running late, but we met up with our friends, and I did the 5K along with my friend Sara. Well, when I say "along with" we were both on the course together, but I ditched her in about the first 10 seconds - some friend I am! She is a walker, so we had not anticipated staying together. I did holler and wave when we passed after the turn-around, though. And I walked back after I finished and did the last .2 mile together, though I didn't cross the finish twice. Then there were the kids races - my 9 year old was disappointed he wasn't registered for the 5K and ran BOTH of the youth races - the first was 1/4 mile and my 4 year old ran that as well, and I along with him. Then my 9 year old and his friend also both ran the 1/2 mile, which was twice around the 1/4 mile loop. After that, Sara's husband Austin (of Tower of Terror 13K fame) ran the 8K. And then we were all exhausted!

Here are my results, though:

Age 34
Bib Number
1489
Division
F3034
Overall Place
302 out of 671
Gender Place
136 out of 404
Division Place
26 out of 74
Finish Time
0:31:16
Mile Pace
10:04/mile
Kilometer Pace
6:15/km

I don't need a new BIG goal yet - I still need to shave another minute 16 from my finish time. I'm pretty pleased with how well I did, overall, though. I ran hard.

Mel - That dragon is so cool. I can't get any sense of scale, though - how big is it?

Shell - It's just community theater this time. A nice little group I helped out with Evita last year. The running crew works out really well for me because it's a modest commitment, timewise - short term, but I feel like I can make a real difference in how the show runs. I just got back into running shows last year, and this is my third one - I did Evita last march with this group, ran lights for a professional show (I was unpaid, though) at The Playwright's Center. Now Godspell. I hope to do more in the future and already have a request to help with their production of Cabaret next year. We'll see if the schedule works out. OH, I majored in Theater (and Latin) in college, with a concentration on design and tech, so it's not exactly a new thing, but it was something I hadn't done for a while.

Jen, I can take all kinds of pain, but stabbing - no. I'm a wimp as far as that goes as well!! :)

Maybe we should all get Ohana tatoos, just like the blue team on The Biggest Loser and their Pride tatoos. On second thought, maybe we should just get hats or something. ;)

Greetings Team!

Sorry I haven't been around much....lots is going on around here. All good stuff, but it's kept me busy.

Corinna and Richard: congrats on your recent events! Yay! Double miles for the team! :cheer2: :cheer2: :cheer2:

Jen: congrats on the personal best!

Mel: awesome tatoo! You be one brave lady! I'd like one of those in the stick-on version.

Everyone else: Have a great week! Off to the other thread to collect our data and do the posting. Sorry to be so late this time.
That's it for now

I'm a little bit confused......(what else is new!) Didn't we have a new member named Ashley? I was looking for one of her posts so I could PM her and let her know where and how to report her workouts, but now I can't find any posts from her on this thread. Am I going crazy?

I was wondering the same thing Jeanne so I could add her to our spreadsheet. I don't know her screen name either and haven't seen a post.

I had a different workout today. I had a bike fitting done.

I've been riding my road bike for a year with just the local shopping eyeing the adjustments.

Today I spent 2 hours spinning on my bike while they made adjustments to saddle height, tilt, bars higher and lower, shoes....everything got adjusted.

The wattage machine showed an increase of 10 watts after the adjustments. It all felt better so it will be fun to see if it is worth the $100.

Anyone else have this done and what did you think?

Mel - Great Tatoo! I will only get one if I EVER do an IM. I don't mind pain, but the birth of my children took 3 hours total....2 hours for DD10 and 1 hour for DD7...was getting ready to do a show and went into labor...:dance3:

Debra - WTG on the end of C25k:yay: GIRL! You have been rock'n those miles!

Richard - WTG on that 1/2.:woohoo:

Corinna - Great 5k! Sounded like fun.:cheer2:

Jim - I was fitted to my bike when I got it. I rode that thing FOREVER! I would like to go back now and do it b/c I know what I am doing now...I did not then. Good luck!:wizard:

As for me...ran 11 miles..need to bike sometime but may have to wait until tomorrow.

Mel: I mentioned I loved the tattoo on the weekly thread, but I just wanted to add that the colors are vibrant & the dragon's arcs in the back & wings really smooth. I'm a person who is so terrified of needles that I've never gotten my ears pierced & actually hit a nurse once. (I was very young, and apologized profusely for my terror-induced panic.) DOOD wants to get a rather abstract pic of a Greek runner on his calf, you know, like those on pottery. It's the humanities major in him.

Optimator Mike: You have a cynical and even devious (thanks, Mel!) mind that I much admire. Remind me not to engage in any friendly wagers with you, though! ;)

Dave: Erica's tattoo & plans sound wonderful. Why the dolphin, if I may ask?

Julie: Great job with the 4 miles, and I'm happy to hear your ankle feels fine. As for reading, I've been going through the Inspector Rebus series by Ian Rankin, a subgenre known as Tartan noir. Apparently those Scottish writers have adopted the hard-boiled genre as their own. But next I'm starting Orson Scott Card's Ender's Game--finally my Ohana familyl, finally! I'll probably dive in tonight or tomorrow. I can't wait!

Jen: Your tattoo idea sounds cool, too! I can't wait to see it! Good news on your walk in that weather. You Wisconsins have fortitude.

Shell: Sorry about that. I agree that the date is significant because its relationship to the survivors' timeline of events. My thoughts are that the Oceanic Six are doing things to protect those survivors who aren't members of the Six. There are other possibilities, other realities so to speak, but I'm not convinced that date is as etched in stone as is appears to be.

Oh, and you are just a little DDR junkie & pusher, aren't you? You're attempting to get us all hooked! Good thing it's legal! :rotfl2: Finally, for being able to get out there & run, especially after such a prolonged rehab. That's great news!

Richard: That's a busy schedule, but I can see how the events are compelling (with what little experience I have, mostly as a spectator). I'm really looking forward to hearing about your experiences, especially the R&R San Antonio as that's one DOOD and I have considered, having never been there & having heard good things about R&R events. I don't know if it's in the budget this year, though.

Corrina: Wow--that's wonderful. I know you're not overly invested in it, but I do think that sub-30 5K is within your stride. It sounds like you ran hard & it felt good, too!

Jeanne: We'll be here waiting to hear updates on your life when you get a minute to breathe! :flower3:

Jim: I haven't heard of it--too new to biking, I guess--but I'd love to hear your progress report on how the bike fitting feels to you in terms of outcomes.

Christa: Wow, 11 miles! I don't know if I'll have the energy to bike by the time I get to that number of running miles (but note I still think I can get to that number). Your endless energy, not just for WO but the shows, your work, family, church, etc. astound me.

As for me: It was the first, official post-C25K run for me today. And I felt great, increased my time by 10% & felt I could have went longer. I continue to be surprised at how much of running is a mental game. I think last week was tough for me in part because I had this number--30 minutes--as the threshold. And I worried whether I could make it. (It was the same after I passed mile 20 on the Goofy; my training hadn't taken me past 20 miles, and I had doubts on my ability to finish between 20 & 23.) Having done 30 last week, 33 seemed easier. :confused3 Of course, I'd also eaten more over the past few days, and especially more protein, so that might have something to do with it. Whatever the reason, I've been "up" the rest of the day! :woohoo:

Hey team. I get home tonight ready to hit the TM and I think the TM finally kicked the bucket. Well, it still works, but the belt is slipping so bad that it is not too safe to run on anymore. I think I will give it away, it's been worked hard the last 8 years. But the great news is that there is a TM sale at our 2nd Wind store (new TM, not used) and we are also going to check out the other professional equipment store. My new TM will be more durable to handle my running. This TM started out as just a walking TM, but really started dying when I started running on it. What else is great... I have a little inherited money which will pay for part of it. A friend of my grandmother had been purchasing savings bonds for me and some are at maturity now. So I will cash 2 in that are mature. She wanted the money to be for something for me and I couldn't think of something better. This is something for my health and happiness!!!

OK, that was a HUGE ramble!

Jim - I once talked to a local tri-athlete who gets fitted for his bike and swears by it. He was also in the olympic trials several year back, so I would say he is reputable.

Christa - Oh yah, you only pounded out 11 miles... WOW girl! Don't you have a race coming up??

Debra - I have played with C25K a little. I used it for speed training but haven't gone through the whole thing. Maybe I should but I always seem to be training for something and not sure that I am ready to train to run a whole 1/2 marathon. Note to self... Take a break and just run for fun sometime!!!

Awww...come on Mike! Don't be a party pooper! I found the perfect tat for you Philly folks!
http://www.runningahead.com/forums/post/0147b5e4d93545c28f2a091696dfce7c#focus

Thanks Debra! DOOD's idea sounds cool! If he finds a good artist, they should be able to draw up what he wants. DOOM is terrified of needles, took me 3 years to get him to do labwork, but he got his tat tonight.

Oh no Jen! Poor TM!

Christa...wtg on the 11!

Corinna...great race!

Jeanne...I think Ashley is Little Miss Mickey. I thought WWDave posted a welcome to her over here but maybe I was confused.

Hi Team!

Ok, copying this post...here's where I am...

...I haven't done a darned thing since Thursday. I don't know what's up, I just have this mental block and I haven't moved. Sigh.

I'm not unhealthy (well, I am, but I should say I'm not injured). I just feel like I'm not making any progress. My scale has been going steadily in the wrong direction, and I'm not seeing results.

This is probably not the right thread for this. I apologize, I'm on so many I lose track. That's another thing I haven't really done -- I haven't been posting like I usually do. I just come home, fall into bed, do the minimum to get my family out the door the next day (ok, not exactly in that order), and mindlessly watch reality tv. Something is very wrong with this picture, I'm just not sure what to do to get myself moving again.

Anyway, I meant to come on here and catch up on everyone else -- I promise to do that soon. I have this massive project due Thursday, and so my DIS time is nonexistent during the day. And since my computer isn't in my bed...you get the picture.

I know I am letting my Team down, and I'm still not moving. Another Big Sigh. I feel like I am one big excuse for not doing what I need to. Sorry to be such a bummer.

I probably just need a swift kick you know where!
Maria

Maria--- Here is a big hug for you. I feel your pain about the scale and it does get you down. Also haven't you been having bad weather in your area. Spring is just around the corner and with the sun staying out longer in the evening, that should help you get out of your slump. Mindless reality TV isn't all bad as I'm stuck watching all those programs since there is nothing else on TV other than sports that aren't reruns. We are all here for each other so don't even think you are letting us down.

Mel--- What a cool tattoo. I'm glad that you actually talked about the pain factor. DS#1 has several large tattoos and he just brushed off the pain. I will be looking forward to seeing it in person.

Jen--- Good luck with your new TM purchase.

Christa & Debra--- You two rock with your miles. :worship:

Richard--- I agree you are a racing machine. Good luck on all your events.

Corinna-- Congratulations on your race.

Michelle--- Hope things continue to go well with your training since you are back running.

Jim--- Happy Biking

I've been so busy at work and home that I haven't had much time to post. Now that is somewhat nice out our yard is a mess from the winter so working on getting things cleaned up. I am keeping up with training for the Minnie. I did 7 miles on Sat, nothing Sunday, Pilates Monday and 4.5 on Tuesday. Will be doing some cross training today with weights.

Anxious for the final episode of LOST before the break. I have avoided the spoiler threads as I want to be surprised with each new episode. I did spoilers last year and it takes something away to the episode if I know what is going to happen. I am still confuse about the Oceania 6 unless Aaron is considered #6 we really don't know who #6. I have to spend the day after an episode reading LOST threads to pick up on all the little suttle things that come from each episode.

I'm sorry if I missed anyone. Tomorrow is the first day of Spring and so glad that Winter will be over.

Nancy

Hello team!

I'm here posting to tell you that as of this afternoon I will pretty much be offline until Monday morning. We are having a very special guest arrive this evening and we will be meeting for the first time. I strongly suspect this is going to be my future son-in-law so we are very excited. Needless to say there has been a frenzy of activity in the household....which is the primary reason I haven't been posting much lately. Things should return to normal next week. Since I am not sure if I will be online before then, I want to wish everyone a very
HAPPY EASTER!!!!!:flower1: :daisy: :flower: :flower2: :butterfly :flower2: :flower: :daisy: :flower1:

Jen: I will post my hours/miles later on today. if you'd like to do the postings this week, be my guest. Otherwise I will do everything on Monday morning.

Maria: don't be down about not getting the exercise in. If it were easy to do all the time it would probably mean that our lives are way too boring. Just go with the flow and take care of what needs to be done. Once things simmer down, you'll be right back on track! That's why we are a TEAM.....when one person is down, there's always someone else to pick up the slack. :thumbsup2

Jen: It's both too bad about the TM & great news about being able to get a new one. It's so important to take care of yourself, and I know it's just what your grandmother's friend wants/would have wanted for you. What kind will you get, do you know?

As for C25K...I'm not sure quite what I'm going to do with it on a longer event. I'm still playing with the idea of running a full, but I do think the RW is a solid strategy. So I've jerry-rigged a training plan for my Cleveland 1/2, completing C25K & following it with the RW time recommended in MfM. I know I'll be doing a RW for Cleveland, but not sure what the Disney full will bring. Anyway, I like C25K because I could quickly see progress, which was the motivation I needed this winter, I think.

Mel: How was DOOM's experience with getting tattooed? I admit I played with the idea of getting one years ago, to "prettify" my hysterectomy scar and commemorate that period of my, but chickened out. Just curious, not really contemplating. ;)

Maria: We're teammates...no one left behind, remember? And I never kick a teammate when she's down! I might try to drag you along, but no kicking. Just know we're thinking of you with  and :pixiedust:. And if you need anything from me--corny jokes, a reality-watching TV buddy, a virtual workout buddy--just let me know. I'll be there.

Nancy: Great news with the 7 miles & Pilates. You'll be in good shape for the Minnie (and in general). I agree with you about the Oceanic 6, btw. Didn't the producers tell us early in the season we would know who the 6 were by last week's episode? :confused3

Jeanne: OMG! That IS a very special guest, and for the holiday! How exciting for you. Make sure you grill him about how he feels about Disney. :rotfl: Seriously, I'm so happy for you and DD. (Is this the "baby" who's graduating?) I don't expect to hear from you this week, but look forward to the recap eventually!

Debra-- I can answer for Jeanne, this is not her baby that is graduating that would be DS#2. He did the Mickey in January. This is DD #2 who is bring her BF to meet the family. She did the Goofy. Just to confuse you she will also have DD#1 graduating with her Masters in May. She doesn't do any racing. And DS#1 is doing Expediation Everest with her in Sept. Good she stopped at 4.

Nancy

Maria No worries about the down time. Maybe it is just burnout, you know like too much all at once. You'll get back to it in your own time. Don't force it or else you'll just end up resenting it all!

Jeanne Ooooh, lovely special guest. Is this a long term in the future or very near in the future??? ;)

Losties enjoy this (last) week before the month break. oooh, I can't wait for it.

I have some not-so-good news in the "1 step forward, 2 steps back" arena. Well, I've been running again, wearing heels again (woo hoo)...we had our last doubleheader in volleyball this past Monday and it was brutal! It was all really close games and I was exhausted like I'd never been before to the point where my arms were hurting so bad every time I hit the ball at the end of the game. Anyway, the last bastion was swimming. I went yesterday. I was doing the breaststroke with the fan kick and I kicked and felt something move back and forth inside my knee. I kicked a second time and the same thing happened. So I stopped kicking. Then when I tried to do just a regular flutter type kick my knee was hurting again. BOO. I tried to just swim with one leg kicking but that didn't last long. I tried pool running too because people always say how that's good when your injured and can't run, etc. Well, I did a little bit but then that started hurting too. I go to the orthopedist after I get back from my vacation next week. Sigh.

Happy Easter everyone! I posted my min/miles for this week on that thread. I'll be back soon! :)

Hi Everyone!

Thanks to everbody for the boost, your good wishes are greatly appreciated!:goodvibes

Ok, so still nothing happening. DH convinced me that I would be better off with one more day of rest until the big project is over, and then hitting the ground running (well, in my case walking!). So, that's my plan. Tomorrow after work, I start my climb back to the heights of athleticism (keeping in mind that I pretty much peak at Space Mountain, I would not ever claim Everest, which is where I place dear Christa, Shell, and the other hardcore folk).

I am feeling a little better, it's weird to me to have a mental block. I can see an injury. This mental stuff is, well, mental. :rotfl2:

Jeanne -- I hope this weekend is all you're hoping for! What a wonderful time.

Debra -- I have earned an episode of Lost at this point! I'm going to relax and let the island mystery take me away -- but not too far, I'm way too fond of my sanity! :rotfl:

Nancy -- I am so ready for Spring! Today we had spitting rain/sleet/snow. If you turned your back it changed. I'm just hoping we aren't hunting for Easter eggs in the snow :scared:

Mel -- I see the shirts are in -- you should get Team hours for getting all those orders out! Thanks again for all you do! :thumbsup2

Jen -- Have fun choosing your new TM! There's nothing like a new item to get you really motivated  Hmmm. I should listen to those words...

All the Cousins -- You guys rock! I am so impressed by all the accomplishments, the races, the new workouts, the miles, the laps -- and you're kind and wacky to boot!

Tomorrow Let's All Go Turbo Team!
Maria :goodvibes
